My son attended this school for Fresh and Soph years. He was bullied continually and it seemed that no teacher coach or principal would make a decision that 100% got rid of the boys that were bullying my son. There was even an incident where a boy urinated in a spray bottle and then sprayed my son and a few of his friends. We were not even called immediately, the school called later that day after they "dealt" with it. The boy was not expelled. My son was being teased in PE everyday, coach said "boys just being boys" when my son finally blew up and defended himself he got suspended for fighting. After two years I decided to move my son to an online high school. When I let Shadow Mountain High School know I was doing this I was told "some students just don't fit in this schools environment to learn well" ~ WHAT??? I am very hurt that my son was not protected and I will never recommend this school to other parents.
I teach at a charter and feel the teachers my son has had and currently have are better than he's had at the Great Hearts Academy(many of the teachers are inexperienced or do not have a teaching degree) and at the same level as what he had at Legacy Traditional School. He went from charter to public and the quality of the highly effective teachers and their background at SMHS is shown through the academic growth I've seen in my son. It has a small town feel with very nice students and committed staff. I also appreciate the diversity in socio-economic backgrounds of the students. Finally, the fine arts program is the best I have experienced. The only criticism I have, which I am hoping improves with time is the commitment to improving the sports programs in other sports besides basketball.
I am currently a student at SMHS. This school does absolutely nothing about students being bullied. If you have issues with a teacher and get your parents involved they'll deny anything they've done. If a teacher does not like you, they will fail you. If a student has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) certain teachers won't grade your work, they'll just check if it's complete. The reason for this is because they have "no time". Do not send your kid here.
As a graduate, This school truly sucks. Only like 6 of my teachers actually cared for me graduating out of like 30. I am truly glad I'm leaving this godforsaken drug filled and bully "free" campus.
I am now a college student but shadow mountain did not give me and education I actually needed :( . Do not take your student here.
I hate the school honestly some terrible teachers and the guy that assigns the lunch detentions I don't like him either.
I hate this school . this school is a terrible school, and I would not advise to bring your child here .
I had a great year at this school. Shout out it Mr. Diaz, Mr. flowers and of course Mrs. probst.
Graduated class of '05, there were certainly worse schools I could have attended.
