ove this cute DC boutique with smorgasbord style rotating food court. Great way to sample unique food from different vendors. I got the Tibetan veggie dumplings, which were amazing! Highly recommend! I think they were stuffed with spinach and had great flavor. I planned on only eating one, but ended up scarfing down the other one as well (2 come in an order). I enjoyed dipping the dumpling into the picked eggplant that came on the side. It was heavenly! I wasn't a big fan of the veggie taco. It was quite bland, smothered in sauce that was dripping down the taco every time I took a bite. I got the Eighth cocktail, bourbon based. Boy could I taste the bourbon! After a couple of sips, I put it aside. It would have been much better with more cider or syrup, something to make it sweeter and a bit more balanced. I got the Desert Rose tea, which was delicious and highly recommend! The teas are from Calabash in Shaw. The service is really friendly and great. They are passionate about what they do and really try to take care of the customer (I got to smell the tea and able to get 1 taco instead of 2). Overall, I had fun trying out food from the different vendors and will be back in a few months to see what's new in the rotation.
I think the store has good intentions to support local businesses/artists. However as a native Washingtonian I think it's a shame that this is yet another place where we are not represented. All the "local" vendors in the store are DC area transplants and not actual born and raised residents of our community. I even saw a vendor who has only been in the area for a year yet she has been represented in your shop. All though DC has now become the transplant capital of the world native Washingtonians are still here. We are not unicorns of the community as we are made out to be. There are so many of us here who are talented artists and business people and I find it funny that a store called Shop Made In DC doesn't have any items from residents Made In DC. Please take this as constructive criticism as I think this store has all the potential in the world especially in a place like Georgetown where we recieve so many tourists. You have the opportunity to support actual local businesses and communities/families. Thank you.
Loved this place, and loved supporting local artists. If you're a tourist like me, and are looking to bring back gifts (or gifts for yourself), this is the place to go. Instead of wasting money on generic, cheaply made tchotchkes spend a little more to get something "real" that helps the community. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and not pushy at all. There was so much to choose from and all if it was high quality. There are little blurbs on the artists next to the items, that make it feel even more personal when you buy. We wound up buying and loving a wide range of items big and small. Spent more than we planned on it, but without a single regret. Will absolutely go back next time we visit.
I've always loved Shop Made In DC, they're really helpful and have great stuff from local makers. We got all the gifts for our family/wedding party and all the favors for our wedding guests here and they made it so easy. Maria was awesome at recommending different items we might like and sharing all the ways they could be personalized. At one point, I got buried in work and fell behind schedule on making decisions on these things (sorry!) and when I was able to resurface and get back to Maria she was so understanding and sprang into action to get everything we needed pulled together in a flash. I can't say enough good things about Shop Made in DC and the team there.
I came here for a free crafting event with my daughter. While setting up I walked around the store and it was really nice. As far as the event it was just me and my daughter who showed up and it was marketed on event bright Very limited resources really just scraps like you would put on the table for kindergarteners. We bought our own canvas but we couldn’t use it or paint because the materials that was marketed was not there so we really was just scrap drawing…..but either way they were pleasant and I enjoyed myself…. But they do have great marketing and great advances of promoting your business.
Not many black local artist represented in the store. Insanely overpriced. Not welcoming when I arrived in. I had a silk beenie on my head to keep my braids from getting wet due to the RAIN!! a young lady came over to ask me did I need in help. I decline yet she watched me around the WHOLE store!!!! I watched her and noticed she didn't ask ANYONE else if they needed help! The young black women was the only one to even acknowledge me and was able to ring my items up. I was here visiting on staying at the Canopy Hotel and will never come here again!! Just awful....
A "tonic syrup" was completely misrepresented. It tasted nothing like tonic, and in fact had a strong cinnamon flavor that I can't imagine anyone wanting to mix with gin. But they have a "no return" policy on food items because of COVID-19 issues, and refused to accept it even for an exchange. It had already been opened (how else would I know what it tasted like?) so wouldn't have been resellable under any circumstances. But I'll never step foot again into a place that misrepresented a product and refuses to stand behind it.
I really am not a fan of the miscellaneous items Made in DC sells. Didn't buy anything. I do like that the owner does her best to support local artists by giving wall space for them to publicly display their art. You can call them or check their website for names of displayed artists. The people here are also able to help you identify locations where artists could be displaying their work. There is an outdoor sitdown sidewalk area to relax with a food break and cold drink. It's about a block from Dupont Circle in DC.
A lovely store full of locally made goods, art and food! If you're looking for unique art to hang on your walls or cool accessories, this is a great place to stop. What's better is that everything is made in DC so it really feels special. I loved all the art prints here and picked up one from LunchCity. Cherry Blossom Creative has lots of art of the maps of different neighborhoods in DC. The owner (?) I spoke with was very friendly and upbeat. I will definitely be back to find more prints for my house!
This store is such a great idea. I'm so glad it's so conveniently located for me. I buy all my gifts here now and it's great. I also often get tea and a snack and I like to have meetings here when possible because it's a lovely environment. The food and drink service is often a little slow due to low staffing, so I don't come here if I'm in a big hurry. But it's a great place to take a little break and browse the merchandise while I wait for my tea.
Heads up: they no longer have a café or serve food. Description and photos are outdated. The sales associate was disingenuous when I called after my visit to ask about it. Phone conversation for reference: - Hi, how late is your café open until? - We’re here until 7. - And you have a café? - We have nitro cold brew on tap. - There are photos online of a café. - Oh those are old. But there is a Blue Bottle Coffee up the street.
My only experience is getting a candle and key chain from them as presents. The candle smelled like cleaning products and the key chain looked like something my kid could have made in preschool. Clearly the presents weren’t my style, but they were pretty over priced for what I got. I tried contacting them to find out what the return policy was, but no one got back to me. So far, I am not a fan!
Cute place to shop DC made gifts and cards locally sourced foods! I had the vegan dumplings this time (they usually have one vegan option available). The menu switches around but I’m not sure how frequently. I haven’t had dumplings in a while but they were filling and yummy!! Definitely recommend for a fun new spot for couples and eating alone. They have a breakfast menu too!
I love this place. I buy gifts here all the time when I need something special for a friend. I love that the gifts are made by DC artisans and all quite unique. I recommend this as a go to place when you need a gift for a hard to please friend or something unique. I especially love their bicycle trash line and have given their beer opener to many people.
Selling products from local makers, Shop Made In DC has locations throughout the city. This particular location is one of their biggest. Located across the street from El Presidente near Union Market, they have one large room filled with jewelry, coffee, liquor, cards, and more. There’s a small back room with products for dogs and pets.
This review is for the wonderful concept and the great merchandise. They feature incredible artists and focus on creating local price! I like that they welcome folks with free arts and crafts projects for First Friday art walks (the first week of the month). Just note that the prices aren’t particularly friendly.
Great meeting space with plugs for your computer! They don’t mind how long you stay(I:stayed five hours lol) ... the drinks are well made and lovingly crafted! And that doesn’t even cover the cool artist shop that is in there as well! All things made by dc entrepreneurs... def coming back
What a great concept and wonderfully curated. Alcohol from distilleries, jewelry, baby items, paintings, ornaments, cards, pet collars. Everything. I really loved that they included the info for the local artists/creators/businesses too. was hard to pick and I definitely will return.
I just bought way too many greetings and birthday cards! So many fun messages and themes besides the traditional: Happy Birthday, thinking of you, get well soon, congratulations on your new baby... Etc. Such a creative and slightly quirky take on the old tradition
They had lots of great locally made art, and household decor. We went to search for a unique souvenir for our trip to DC and we found plenty of options to choose from. Plus - they were doing a liquor tasting with a local distillery so that's awesome!
What a cool store concept! Fantastic sandwiches & local roast coffee, with a bazaar-like assortment of locally made goods to browse (clothing, chocolate bars, bicycle accessories, art,...). They also have Bullfrog bagels, which are chewy perfection.
I would spend all my money here, no questions asked. There are plants, homemade jewelry, so many kind of art, stickers, mugs and cookware, food and wine options, and there were two dogs in the store that were so eager to give you kisses. Adored it.
Excellent combo of short order eats + beer by small local businesses and a great selection of locally made products: art, jewelry, clothing, home goods and food products. A must for residents and tourists! They also have some nice events!
Made in DC always has fun, unique locally made goods. Service at this location was excellent. I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so they had it brought over from the Georgetown location. Very grateful to be saved the trip!
A great selection of smart, beautiful, and high quality locally made gifts, art, and eats. Local DC flavor MUCH more authentic than the made-in-China American flags you get at tourist gift shops. Come here to get your RBG magnets!
Lovely experience all around. The store manager and attendants couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. The arts and crafts are wonderfully creative and varied. And it s a warm feeling to know the artisans are my neighbors.
Very cute pop up store, featuring local makers and their art/products/things. I have picked up many a stocking stuffer and present since this store opened. They also have snacks for sale from local eateries.
A cute shop supporting local small businesses/creators. So much fun DC apparel, art, knick-knacks... I'd take friends here who would like a souvineer hat/tee/hoodie/etc to remember their visit.
Beautiful little shop with a wide variety of local handmade items. They have baby onesies, art prints, cocktail mixes, pottery, jewelry... Really anything! Great place to buy gifts!
Adorable store with something for everyone at all price ranges. It's super reliable for finding cards and gifts. I love being able to support my local community by shopping here!
Great shop for local stuff! Each location is specific to that neighborhood and I love visiting each one. The NoMa location is wonderfully staffed and they're so friendly
The best best store! Shop Made in DC is my go-to for gifts and for things for myself and my home. LOVE the local vibe and amazing selection.
Very nice, store neat and very well organized the person there was very helpful. I was there with a friend not to buy anything
