Updating a 4 star review to a 1 star review. The management sucks. 1) the hand dryers in the bathroom don’t work. 2) The staff (not the bar staff, the guys in front) accused me of breaking it. 3) The owner didn’t even consider that I might be in the right, rather he sided with his staff.(again not the bar staff, the guys outside) 4) I was not even given a paper to record my complaint. 5) Poor management. I was given two different reasons as to why the organ doesn’t work by the owner. I don’t why maybes he lies to everyone he meets. Previous Review: Honestly one of my favourite hangouts, the only thing I can complain about are the unisex bathrooms. They're small and dimly light and I've noticed that a lot of women get scared/unnerved sharing a space like that with men. Honestly, the people who come here are cool, the management/owner are not .

Fantastic dining experience! The place has a grungy-southern-biker type of vibe (but somewhat more refined). The Southern chicken burger I ordered was delicious and they are generous with their portions. It is also quite affordable and it is possible to have a burger (chicken) and beer for under R100.00. I was there early on a Sunday afternoon, so obviously the place wasn't packed. Nevertheless, I imagine it picks up later since they only close at 02:00 am. Note the awesome Star Wars pinball machine. They also sell Boston Coffee which is always a favourite. Great experience!

Great quality food, people and, most importantly, beer. It's hard to find a good spot to hang with the mates where all the music played isn't terribly electronic. Found it. Old skool rock 'n roll and some newer vibes every now and then. Props everywhere remind me of the Music Video for "Toe vind ek jou" (Francois and Karen) which gives you something to look at if your not watching the rugby game or locked in conversation with friendlies. This is one of my favourite hang outs now. Thanks to Skäl crew for today.

Great staff and beer, unfortunately I couldn't try the food yet since me and my friend was assaulted by a drunkard, throwing his glass on our table with such force that my friend got cut, I told him that he should leave, he slapped me. The bar did nothing, one phone call and that man was in cuffs, he committed assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Clean up your bar and I might return. It used to be a nice spot. This was not the first time I was a victim of the unsafe circumstances here.

Great pub atmosphere, friendly service and an off-beat menu with attention to detail which I enjoyed. This is basic pub fare with a difference : the owners are clearly aware that vegetarian and vegan options need to be considered. There are not a lot of dessert options, but just reading about that banana milkshake was droolworthy. I opted for a delicious hot chocolate, topped with cream. Relaxing place for friends, with many interesting beer and cocktail options to choose from.

Used to be great, but this place has gone downhill fast. The female bar staff seem to think they're doing you a favour serving you and then give patrons attitude when they don't listen and you tell them they've brought you the wrong drinks. Not grateful for tips either. It's a pity, I used to love it here, but I will not entertain negative staff who seem to absolutely hate their jobs.

Best whiskey basted ribs and chicken wings in town!!! Their loaded fries… deepest temptation and desires = SATISFIED! I absolutely love the vibe of this place..: Their choice of music, along with a decent selection to offer from their food menu and drinks. Everywhere you look there’s something interesting that catches your eye - it gives the feel of local biker bar with a bit of a twist. The bar staff and waitrons are very helpful and friendly.

Went this weekend for the first time. Love the décor and the entire vibe and music. Bar area is a bit small. The air vent is somehow connected to the bathroom . So the smells from the bathroom come through the vent. The bathrooms are unisex - Not very fond of it - A bit smelly. Food is GREAT! The vibe would be even greater if they smash down the wall and make the bar area a bit more lit and bigger.

Great music with a warm atmosphere. They have craft beer on tap as well as a selection of bottled beers. The Southerner chicken burger is a must! This is where you will find the difference between a burger and a darn good one. Will recommend. Smokers at the enclosed bar area. No smoking in the seated area. Fireplace keeps it warm. And a pinball machine if there is a queue for the restrooms. Skål!

We believe Skål has a lot of potential. I've longed for an alternative bar for so long. The food has potential, but isn't up to scratch. Had the same waiter both times and although he's very friendly, he got orders wrong both times. He just doesn't seem all there most of the time. Nice beer. Chicken burger was a bit dodge last time but delicious the first time I had it.

If you're a "foodie" or love excellent food that tastes like it from out of this world then you absolutely have to try this place. I ordered on Mr D food one night during Loadshedding and man oh man was the best ribs and wings we ever ate. It was succulent, delicious, juicy and all got finished the same time. We will go check out the restaurant whem we have time.

Be careful how you gamble because they stop your machine, even when you winning, they press your machine to stop you, because closing time is Mandotory. Overall the bar men staff is amazing big 10 ups to the staff and food

Southerner Burger and Chips

This is my little solace spot. I've been coming here for years, the place has only gotten better in that time, yet the vibe has stayed the same. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and the fries, wings, ribs & pizza are poggers. Favorite dish is hands-down the Southerner Burger, favorite drink is their JackD mix. I appreciate the generous portions and ratios.

Great little find in Brackenfell. I haven't had any food here but patrons kept going on about how good the food was. The bar area is great with great decor, and hosting many options in terms of beer on tap. Even selling Fokof Lager which is my favourite. You are allowed to smoke/vape in the bar area. The rest of the eatery appears trendy, neutral and open.

Idk. Its advertised as a craft beer bar. I saw three craft beers available. It is certainly not a craft beer bar. Disappointing. Edit: You are correct, you don't advertise as a craft beer bar so please accept my apology. I picked up the reference to craft beer from a couple of reviews. That's not your fault, its mine. I've amended my review accordingly.

Beer was cold and good. Music not my favourite but I wasn't there for the music. We were expecting a few colleagues from Joburg to join but were rather shocked by the fact that we had to hand over our car keys to open a tap. The place is decent and clean. Staff was okay but not entirely welcoming. It's not a place that hit the "wow" factor.

Awesome place, staff was very accommodating with our requests when it came to ordering drinks where they have to go out their way for us. We also had an issue unrelated to the establishment and the co-owner was kind enough to go out of their way to assist us, even though we didn't ask it of them. Most certainly a place to visit regularly.

I thoroughly enjoy the bar area. The food is great and drink selection is local perfection. The menu is also diverse enough to satiate different moods and tastes. A slight better ventilation system for the bar - which is a smoking area - would go a long way. Great place to play chess and other various board games while having a drink.

This new establishment is definitely worth visiting, if only for the "dont judge a book by its cover experience "...its not what the name suggests, it is perhaps the best place in the Northern Suburbs. The management and staff are also very friendly and welcoming...the decor is great....definitely worth your patronage.

2019 - Fantastic bar and eatery. 2023 - Service has definitely become slower since my last visit. Inattentive bar service, waiting some 10 to 15mins for a beer, while bar lady had a chat to her friends. Pity. Quite enjoyed my time here when I lived in Cape Town.

Suppose to be the happening place, but got there and waited nearly 25 minutes for service- the barman was waitering too and flirting too much with the clients... last rounds called before 1am for a 4am closing?? I don't mind if the bar is quiet... but common logic- busy Bar, slow service... need I elaborate?

This place has an small but well designed interior with moody lighting and an intersting hipster style. It is nice that the noisy bar and smoking area is seperated from the restaurant by a door. Food is great and mediumly priced, the waiters was very friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this place.

Worst service I have had in a long time. Especially as we were the only customers, waiter was not interested in giving a good service. Burgers were not cooked as requested, drinks were completely mixed up. Took over an hour to get COLD food. Will never go back and definitely will not recommend

Love the way skål looks, each time I walk in there's something new, it keeps your eyes busy for hours. The disco fries are to die for (it's just a bit smaller than it was the last time I ordered it..) the staff can be a bit friendlier too. Overall love the place and would highly recommend it.

Pity there is not a 4.5 star rating. Food was amazing and music brilliant. Did not go there to watch the soccer though, however the music videos were original and fresh. Their Jack Daniels ribs are mouth watering with the meat falling off the bones. Recommend to all to visit, at least once.

Such an awesome dining experience! Felt like I was in northern Europe, in a bar that only plays metal and rock. Also one of the best burgers I've ever had the pleasure of eating! I highly recommend this place if you love metal or rock and love great food and drinks! Will definitely return

Considering Covid and we were quite a big table it was dissapointing that the waiters did not seem to happy to seat us or assist us even thought the restaurant was quite empty. Maybe it was because we just wanted some drinks but if we felt more welcome we would have probably ordered food.

Man, was I happy when I discovered that old tacky De Kelders upstairs were closed and this beaut popped up. Just what the Northern Suburbs needs. More culture and less sleazy bars. Great service, great and friendly staff, and awesome milkshakes, chow and of course.... The Beeeerrrrrr!!!

Small well staffed and well stocked bar with a barista counter and coffee shop area that also sells burgers. Trendy/Folky/Hipster style decor, it attracts an eclectic mix of suburban patrons. I've not tried the food or coffee, but had fun going for drinks.

If you like rock and roll music, food and drinks, Skål Bar is the place to go. They offer board games and good vibes. Their mix options are limited, so I could not order something like a screwdriver, but other than that I would definitely go again.

Ordered the skal burger via mr delivery. I liked how everything was packaged with care and individually wrapped in the container. The burger was absolutely amazing. Definitely something to try again. The fries were a dry and hard and too salty

I just love this place! It's my go-to choice for a good meal and a lekke dop with friends. The bar staff need to be a bit more attentive. Even sitting at the bar it takes forever to get a drink. But I come back cause everything else is amazing

This place accepts people like Jaco Swart a wife beater to enter the premises. Stand up for violence against women. Do better. If you don't know about it, google the name and view the explicit content of him beating his wife literally.

Fantastic vibe, delicious food (and they cater for vegetarians). Love the décor and the theme. Will definitely visit them again. Only problem I had is that they don't have a lot of wine options for people like me who only drink wine.

Did not live up to the hype unfortunately. I was looking ffrd to genuine 100% beef / lamb patties but it was rubbery, they add to much other things. The burgers are tiny, we went somewhere else afterwards to fill our tummies.

Comfortable environment, great food but lacking somewhat in attendance. We had a booked table in smoking area and barman had to serve us. On a Saturday evening you can't expect a single barman to take table orders as well.

Had a great time, Owner and staff are accommodating. Great atmosphere and affordable drinks, all while maintaining surprisingly classy and professional standards. Best Breakfast sandwich I've had in years, hands down.

The bar ladies think that you doing them a favor by ordering. Service sucks. Not my recommendation. Also a lot of drama amongst the staff. I don’t go to a bay for staff drama. We don’t have to hear all their issues.

Vibe is awesome. Very rustic, food music, old silent films playing on the TV in the corner. Food was good, although of the 5 burgers we ordered 3 were cold and the chips were so salty nobody could finish it.

Decent enough spot to come for a beer. Good variety of beers, the music was great and I enjoyed the chicken burger. The wife felt a bit old and overdressed. The theme is alternative, bear that in mind.

Very unique place, with friendly staff. The only problem was that there was not a lot of space in between tables so it was a pain as I had my baby with me in his stroller.

Went for my wife's birthday, and was positively surprised by the awesome atmosphere and great music. The food was wonderful and completely worth the price.
