Last year in July, I had an inquiry about a plant I was considering to buy from this store. It was the last one in the store and pretty sorry looking so I was asking if they would offer a discount on it. The cashier called someone over to look at it (perhaps a floor manager) and she told me to wait just a second and walked away. A short time later a man walked up to me, dressed all in black, no name tag, no identifying marks, and, without introducting himeself at all and in a confrontational tone, asked me, "What's the problem?" I was quite taken aback. A strange man, no name, no hello, no introduction at all with an approach verging on aggressive. After a quick confused exchange, I surmised that this was either the store manager or the store owner. He flat out refused to offer a discount and stated that he would rather send the plant back to the supplier for a full refund than offer a customer a discount. Which is fair and completely up to him, albeit smacks of greed and is wastefull and environmentally unsound, alas... The whole experience, specifically his demeanor and his rude tone with me left me with a really bad impression of the store. I felt so strongly about it that I wrote an inquiry to Sobeys head office. I got a nice reply stating that the owner of the store would reach out to me to discuss the incident. Haa haa...of course, almost one year later, no phone call, no email, no apology...no surprise. I have not set foot at that store since then, even though it's the closest grocery store to my house. I would rather drive further down to Metro or over to Terry Fox to Farm Boy or Loblaw's. I just a flyer advertising the store's, grand re-opening, and owner in the picture on the flyer, looks very much like the man that spoke to me so rudely. There will be no custom here from me as long as this man is there or I receive a way overdue apology.
This location is approximately a 2-3 minute drive from my house. Although it's more convenient for me, it's the staff working there that keep me coming back every time. I worked in the deli when this location first opened up and it's so nice to see such positive changes since new management. I can't remember his name, but the now owner is ALWAYS in the store helping out and always waves and says hi to every customer he sees. I don't think he's ever NOT have a smile on his face. Two days ago, I went in looking for a type of bread, they were completely out, then the manager took down my name and number and said she'd give me a call when it came in the next day. Low and behold, she actually gave me a call and also offered to keep a loaf in the back for me incase there wouldn't be any left when I came. Every single time I go get produce, with my luck and timing, they're always out of my essential items, but (I assume), the produce manager Nick, offered me the sale price on the same product but different brand seeing as though everything I needed was still getting restocked. Time and time again, the staff always blows me away with their customer service and I swear to you, sometimes I go there JUST for the employees...weird I know.
Updated review: Not loving the new layout, it’s much harder to find things now. I miss the old health food/organics section. The customer service and attitude of many of the staff has gone downhill. They don’t seem to enjoy working here. The prices of most items are just insane. I understood paying higher prices for a grocery store that was open 24 hours, but now that they close at 10pm (or 9:55), I don’t see how it’s justifiable. I sometimes still buy their homemade bread, but never bakery items. Carefully inspect your berries before buying, they aren’t always fresh. I go here for the convenience now, but usually as a last resort. Review from 5 years ago: While Sobeys can be pricey, they have a good selection of organic food. Their baked goods and premade foods are really good. I always go here for my homemade bread over any other grocery store. I also love that they carry Purity products (made in Newfoundland).
I had good experiences at this location until today. I was there to buy some cooking oil and found this bottle of corn oil for sale @5.99. when I was at the self checkout, it scanned at $6.99. I asked the staff and she went to check the price and admitted the price was wrong. I asked about scanning code of practice and I was supposed to get the item for free since it's under $10. I was shocked to be told they don't do scanning code of practice anymore. This was the first time I have ever heard a store not following this rule. I don't care if I am getting it for free or not, but I am very frustrated to hear the basic rule of protecting the consumers is not being followed! I will avoid going to that store in the future for sure.
I was supposed to get a standard mermaid birthday cake from the Hazeldean location, but after a debacle talking to their rude baker (after talking with an amazing part timer? there the day before) I reached out to Donna the full time cake decorator at this March Rd location. She wasn't able to help with the standard design due to a lack of the ♀️ Deco pack BUT she was super helpful & made multiple suggestions for alternatives to the missing 'topper' decorations. Donna made the cake exactly as it would look just without the toys and we got the toppers off of Amazon next day. IT WAS AMAZING! So beautifully decorated and moist and the whole cake was just perfect! I hope they realize what a gem they have working there.
The self serve machines are annoying. I brought my own bags and the machine kept asking me if I was using bags, if I was going to pack the item, and that my bags need to be approved. Furthermore, when I had vegetables or fruit with no label, when searching the item on the machine, I would type but 2 letters and it would all of the sudden change screens and tell me to select the item when I wasnt even finished typing... this caused me to click somewhere else by mistake, making it more frustrating. It's supposed to be faster than going to a cashier and less of a hassle. However, I found it to be more annoying having the machine tell me what to do every few seconds. Please fix this issue pronto.
Selection has been on the decline over the past few years. Things I have bought for ages just are not available there anymore. For example, the yogurt selection is limited to a few brands with hardly any lactose-free alternatives as they used to have. No French’s ketchup, which I find unfortunate. Needless to say, they rarely have the best prices. Everybody should know by now that you will get ripped off at Sobeys. Their pricing is also sometimes deceiving (see photo). This is the closest grocery store to me and I rarely make my way there anymore. But I definitely applaud the installation of the self-checkout lanes and I would also say the seafood section and selection are great too.
I used to love this place. It was my go to grocery store, the staff and I would always talk for 10 mins every time I came in. I just can't get over how bad the selection and customer service is. I've been trying to find stevia and a thermometer for literally three weeks and they've been sold out. Edit - had to come back and lower by one more star. Nothing but more bad experiences since the review. The staff is often very unfriendly, rude, even. I hate to be in the presence of some of the staff there, as much as I hate to say that. I'll avoid certain cashier because they really really kill my vibe. There is a few very friendly staff members, too.
Located on March Rd in North Kanata this Sobeys location is always well kept and organized. Great specials throughout the establishment. Now offering beer with some great deals and airmiles on all purchases. I especially like the shell coupons given to save money on gas per litre. The staff are a mix of younger and older demographics who are always willing to help you. The owner Dennis is often on site taking the time to speak with his customers and offer a helping hand. Chef Kevin's kitchen school is not only an informative course but it's also a great value as you get to eat the meals you create. Overall a great grocery experience.
Good food and covid protocols. I had asked to speak to the manager about a promotion that was posted and was frustrated to hear that instore specials can be changed without honoring the dates that their marketing says they are posted until. The real frustrating part is that the manager was telling me in a loud voice and with hand jestures pointing to my face that I was wrong before he had even walked over to me at the cash. Kevin likely interacts with people yelling at him a lot, but didn't even hear what I had to say first. A great store but an unfortuante interaction with management.
The only problem I have with this particular sobeys is in HOW the store floor is arranged. I haven't been to a sobeys after moving in eight years. They have like 5 freezers in the store and they are NOWHERE near each other, they're literally in the middle AND at opposite ends of the floor! BUT all in all other than that it wasn't really busy, it was clean and I got to a register without a lineup abd was outta there in a flash. ALSO, they had a staff member there grabbing and sanitizing the carts for me which was nice. She also reminded a customer who came in behind me to put on a mask.
Terrible store in general. Dave the "manager" was extremely rude to me and lied to my face. He doesn't care about the store or its customers, he made that very apparent. I'm going to contact their head office about an incident there that just ruined my day and Dave made it so much worse. I'll be going a little further to Metro from now on. March rd is the worst Sobeys, actually grocery store, I've been to. Customer service is nonexistent and products are constantly expired. Thanks for the brutal experience in your store today.
We live close by a d used to shop here regularly. We winter in the south and came home to all the renovations. Some areas are a nice improvement, but the new isles are ridiculously narrow. We particularly liked the bread here, but this spring came home to find the loaves of bread are about 20% smaller than last fall. They must have bought all new pans. This is a perfect example of shrinkflation. Now a sandwich made with this bread is too small. I'm not impressed. I'd prefer to pay an appropriate price for a normal sized loaf.
During the last few months we noticed a significant decline in the selection and a n equally significant increase in their prices. My latest examples: The cheese stick costs $1.29 a piece. The traditional German egg pasta went from $3+ to $5+. They stopped carrying the ED Smith jams. On and on and on... Are they out of their mind? They are losing a returning customer who over many years spent an annual average $7,500 with them. It may be chump change for them, not for us.
Bought "fresh" hot food from the hot food counter (chicken tenders and potato wedges). Both the wedges and chicken were old/stale - packaging states that it was packaged today and there was no way this was packaged today. Completely inedible. Called and spoke to duty manager who flippantly told me it was absolutely fresh but "may have been overcooked" as if a) I didn't know the difference and b) this somehow made it better. Not to be trusted.
Quality has been going downhill. I have seen milk on sale that was about to expire the very next day, expired cupcakes and many berries having fungus. Especially when I pay such a high price for Cherries I expect that they are not rotten or fungus ridden. Now I never buy any kind of perishable from Sobeys. The only other reason I buy anything at all is because it is very close to my place, but at some point hopefully it will change.
I reached out to Sobey's Pharmacy to help a resident moving to a retirement home get their second dose of the Moderna vaccine. This was after Public Health failed to help. Marianne (sp?), the Manager was excellent. She looked for an opportunity to create a solution. This resident is now booked for her second vaccine and couldn't be happier. Hats off to Marianne for excellent customer service and compassion for seniors.
Nice store but often painfully slow checkout. The staff work fast, but nobody jumps in when they get behind. I mentioned to the checkout person that several managers are walking by without even noticing the lineups, she said "yeah, they don't care" Another observation is items on sale are more often than not wiped out. So either insufficient quantities, shelves not stocked, or they just want people in the door.
Excellent store with a local feeling. Their employee retention is very high so you see the same faces every week. Special orders at butcher counter are easy and friendly, produce is always good and often local. Shopping from the weekly flyer can save you quite a bit of money. Throughout the pandemic, I have learned how to shop this store and save much while eating top notch. Great staff, great food. Thank you
I use this location most often as its just around the corner from home. Shelves are always stocked. Staff are friendly and closely available. Its clean and the food from the deli is extremely good. They have homemade (not frozen) pizzas for like $12, they only take 12 minutes in the oven and they are the best pizzas ever!! Perfect for after those long days at work but you don't want to splurge on delivery.
Beautiful grocery store with lovely cheese and meat counters. A large and fresh produce area. Everything you'd expect and then another level of something special. It feels good to shop here. It does have more specialized selection and a few things that are not available at any other chain and the prices reflect that. Do plan to bring your own bags - it's slow to pack paper bags and you pay to buy bags.
Today was the last straw, Sobeys. I went into the store to pick up five basic items. Guess how many of them you had in stock? ZERO! And one of those was MILK. You didn't have MILK. Think about that one for a moment. Went two blocks to Metro and they had all five items. Poor stock has been an ongoing problem at this store for years and you've done nothing to fix it. Today was my last wasted trip.
Not a good experience... My cashier, Nicole, just added "by mistake", using one of her fingers, an extra 180 g for my single item that she had to weight. She looked into my eyes and press the scale. Why? I have no idea. It's not like the price difference will affect her. Just me. I don't like to encounter untrusty cashiers. Shame on you, Nicole! I hope that this isn't a common practice here!
First time here. Didn't care for outlay and took forever to walk through it to find what I was looking for. Sales are 3 for $, or 4 for $....what about single people or couples who only want 1 item, or don't have room for more than 1. Grocery chain stores don't consider savings for single or couples. Staff however were very friendly! And it wasn't too busy. Quick getting through cash.
I have shopped here since it opened. I used to love shopping here. It seems to be going steadily downhill in terms of product availability. In the last two weeks I've been unable to buy; whipping cream, chopped kale, butternut squash, acorn squash, lean ground beef - all things that are commonly used and readily available at other stores. I will be switching to another store.
My husband and I have been shopping here since it opened and have recently noticed a decline in available products that they used to stock. I have to use other stores now to find them. They also run out of certain staple food items. Seems like there has been a turnover in staff as the manager who used to be there is gone and he was super friendly and always helpful.
I still consider this to be the best Sobeys in the area, the fruit and vegetable section is large and well ordered, as are the meat, fish and bakery areas. The cash desks move quickly and the manager is always on hand if things get too busy. Extra kudos for the international section, beer fridges and wine aisle. Without doubt my favourite grocery store in Kanata.
Update (Sept'23) +This location gives AirMiles (Not anymore) +Staff is friendly (Not as much now) +Decent drugstore section w/pharmacy +Good meat counter and deli +Produce is good +Good layout -Unfortunately, you must check dates as I have found items past their dates a few too many times Prices have gone way up; to the point you could say they are gouging.
Bagger Zak that I always see there is probably one of the most hardworking and undervalued employees. I have been shopping at the store for over 3 years and always see this man delivering best customer service, yet he is stuck in the lowest position at the store, management should do something about it. Would be a shame to lose such a great employee
This grocery store is really bad. Last week had to take back a chicken that expired by one day, got a refund but could not exchange for a new chicken as they were all expired. Today noticed the cheese whiz that was purchased on the weekend was really from 2022. This store used to be good years ago and I am not sure why it changed so much
Epimaque was such a big help at the deli section. I am a 76 year old woman and Epimaque made me feeling in my raging 20s again. He gave me the juiciest sausage for such a low price and held eye contact the entire time. I could see HIS sausage through the apron he was wearing and OMG I SWEAR IT WAS STARING BACK AT ME UGHHHHH!!!!!!
This place used to be good. They changed the aisles and its just an absolute mess now. The aisles are so narrow now and there are support beams right in the middle of them too just absolutely no thought by whoever changed the aisles. There doesn't seem to be any organization to the store either. Such a frustrating experience.
The whole store has recently been rearranged, and there appears to be no rhyme nor reason to the current layout. Juice can be found in 3 separate locations, soup takes up 1/8 of one shelving unit in an area where the sign says 'soup' and nothing else. The place is a mess and the floors desperately need cleaning.
They don't carry certain things, they use the excuse of seasonal. How is Big Mac sauce seasonal ? No one knows where anything is. They have times when you can buy beer. It is ridiculous. It is too expensive for some things. I prefer to drive elsewhere to get my groceries now because of the poor service.
Prices are way too high. You can buy similar items at No Frills or Walmart and save like 40% of your money. Actually, some of the items are even found at Dollarama just next to Sobeys with a better price. Managers should match their prices with other stores, or else they will lose their customers.
I shop here because of the convenience, but it's not a great store. There are always empty spaces on the shelves and produce bins. They never have everything I need. Recently, things I like to buy on a regular basis are not being stocked. The store is clean. The prices are a little high.
it used to be a great store, now seems messy, not finding the products, not much selection, messy store arrangements, prices way too high and lastly scene plus is just not helpful , good old air miles was better. now you have to buy 3 jumbo sized cereal boxes for a 100 points...!!
Sobeys March road is a special place for me, this outlet has this little special thing about it that makes the whole outlet different from any other supermarket in the area. The staffs are very friendly and nice. I strongly recommend everyone to think local and shop from Sobeys!
I usually like this location for its pre-made sandwiches. Today however, I hated it. I bought my regular sandwhich and there was virtually no filling in it! I basically paid 5$ for two pieces of bread. Looks like I'm going somewhere else from now on because thats unacceptable.
Excellent Sobeys, nil issues with groceries and cleanliness. Only one truly grumpy cashier. Only issue is complete lack enforcement of covid-19 protocol. One is lucky to not have opposite direction traffic in an aisle despite markings or register wipe down between purchases.
The quality of the produce is excellent, the storemade sausages are delicious, and Sobeys carries many organic/natural products and Purity brand products. The prices are higher; we get Air Miles, and coupons for 4 cents off per litre of gas, or $5 off next time we spend $50.
Very clean and crisp looking place with extremely helpful and courteous staff including the manager who try their best to ensure satisfaction. The prices are similar to others like Metro or Loblaws, sans the crappy service, so I don't know what people are complaining about.
This store has a fantastic meat department, with very helpful staff, including a few BBQ lovers. Great selection throughout the store - clean, bright, and well organized. And they carry some Newfoundland goods, as well, with a number of Purity products and Mt Scio savoury!
The worst Sobeys sandwitch ever. Complete mush. The lady serving obviously doesn't like her job. Dont go here for lunch unless you want to be sick for the rest of the day. Worst grocery store ever. Please do yourself a favor and goto Loblaws. You will be thankful you did.
Just brought my kids to the drugstore here for flu pharmacist was amazing with my kids who were trying to be so brave but not good at hiding it. Quick and no tears which is saying something !! . Just a note for people for next year skip shoppers and go to Sobeys !!!
Went around 11am, quiet, easy to physical distance, well marked traffic pattern on the floor. As always staff polite and friendly, I had to use the pin pad since my tap didn't work and the cashier offered me hand sanitizer right after....super appreciated!!
I go to this location out of convenience but twice this week I have bought items only to get home and find them all moldy when I open them. I usually check the dates before buying and neither items were even close to the best before date on the packaging.
Celebration cakes here are the best! We ordered a transformers-themed custom cake here, with fresh fruit inside, and everyone loved it! You can also create your own cake, and the ingredients are okay for halal food consumers. Very cost-effective as well.
I really like this store. It is close to home, it is very clean, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it has a great selection but is small enough not to be overwhelming. A great one stop grocery shopping experience. Highly recommend.
Please fix your website it lied to me. But that's not the employees fault. Great work. Clean store and Lots of women working there : glad to see Sobeys not favoring the Men Workers. Good work sobeys. Little pricey sometimes but hey its Kanata
Disappointing experience today. picked up two boxes of tea under sign select varieties $3.99. Sale price not picked up at cash, cashier called another associate who asked me to go take a photo. I returned with the photo and was told the tea
Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School was honoured to have worked with the staff of Sobeys. They volunteered freely of their valuable time in supporting 3 Sir Guy Carleton students in a two week work experience placement. They were unfailingly
Went to get a chicken with the sides for a quick dinner as momma bear is sick and has no energy to cook. Turns out they dont do meal deals like that. You buy the chicken and the sides separately. 40 bucks for a chicken, a salad (500g),
We purchased platters of sandwiches, fruits, veggies and dessert for a funeral reception. The platters were attractive, delicious and plentiful! The staff was helpful and courteous! The website was very easy to use to place our order.
I live nearby Sobeys on March Road and this is my go to store. Produce is better quality than what I find at Farm Boy. Staff is excellent, friendly and helpful. One stop shopping is so easy at this store. Wouldn't shop anywhere else.
Great selection. Awesome butcher, pastry, and organic options. Also a great Deli counter with ready-made meals and snacks to go. Great selection for discriminating beer lovers. Ample parking and very friendly, helpful staff ...
I shop here frequently. Today I wanted some fresh corn. After shucking several ears of corn I noticed they were a US product and put them back. Why in the world was local corn not available? We have fabulous corn right here..
Employees never know about what you ask them so it's a waste of time to reach out to them, except for the guy at the butcher counter who is knowledgeable and nice. This guy is the only reason why this market deserves 4 stars.
I honestly prefer this store to the one on Terry Fox. This Sobeys feels cleaner, better organizes, and the produce looks better taken care of. It might be a bit out of my way but worth it at times when coming home from work.
Epimaque was such a great help, he carried my groceries to my car for me and tipped me. I was the customer so lightly confused but I'll take all the money I can get. Please promote this man and give him free lobster.
I get that renovations occur and we are totally happy to be patient as this happens , but things have been disorganized for months here . At least remove the irrelevant signs for where products are located .
Expensive compared to other supermarkets but always clean and never lineups for checkout. Update 05-23. Major changes are going on and will look great when done. 07-23 - updates are done and looks great.
The layout in store has changed and is a good shopping experience. Prices are okay. Be mindful of what you buy because some items are better purchased elsewhere. Best grocery store in the area however.
I received outstanding service from Sobeys today. They had mistakely had an outdated sign posted at the deli market and that they went out of there way to fulfill the promotional deal. Well done!
Good selection of grocery, price is a bit higher in average except for sale items. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, some cashiers do show a bit of attitude probably due to over worked.
Super friendly service. Love the sandwiches and the fact everytime I go, the staff always try to go a little bit further to help me get what I need. Never have to wait long at checkouts.
It's a grocery store and close to home. However, it's one of the few grocery stores without lactose free cheese and their deli selection is the lesser of all the larger grocery stores.
I used to like it, but has really gone down hill last few months. Hard to find anything, hard to find staff to help, no signs to help. We have switched to another store further away.
The produce is generally good, but the overall produce section is a bit small in terms of variety and how much they stock. The rest of the store is your typical Sobeys experience.
I gave this store a second chance and I regret it. Sobeys has the worst customer service of any grocery store in West Ottawa. The workers who work here are all very miserable.
Service in bakery seems to be slipping on some days. I’m feeling that staff are looking around anywhere but where the customers are. If it was busy, I’d be more understanding…
Great place for fresh fruits and vegetables! And the best you get Curry leaves, and other Indian veggies like okra, long beans, Thai green chillies, bitter gourd and more...
Very clean and organized establishment. Great selection, however very, very pricey. Spent $175 whereas the price would have been 1/2 or 1/3 off, I would shopped elsewhere.
We always have a wonderful experience at the Sobeys thanks to the exceptional cashier, Carole, who is always warm and friendly. My son loves the store because of her.
High quality, nice looking store. Very few spot deals (aging fruit/veg, day old bread). Prepared foods look great and a decent sized beer selection. Expensive though!
I live nearby this Sobeys. I have to travel to Farm Boy to buy fresh fruits for my kid. Check attached pictures. Talked to store manager couple times - no effect.
My cashier was very patiently ringing up a customer's order. The customer was changing her mind on many of her purchases. The cashier kept so calm! Kudos to her!
Always clean, shining and lovely staff. Price are high relatively but i always enjoy to visit for small shopping. You can be never wrong for green and fruits. .
It serves the community as the closest oasis in the local food desert. However, if your not in Briarbrooke it's difficult/unpleasant to approach without a car.
Convenient but pricey and been sick a few times eating products made by hand in their veggie section. Suspect that some employees do not properly clean fruits.
epimaque was a great help at the meat desk he cut my meat so delicately it was like an art. He gently grabbed the meat packaging it down to the minute detail
I was disgusted that 90% of people were still wearing masks..when we know they are ineffective. Otherwise, I found everything ok and the checker was nice.
Large well laid out lots of room to shop in without feeling crowded. Shoppers still don't practice SOCIAL DISTANCING very well but the staff sure do. :<]
Bought mushrooms Complete slime. 2nd time now. I was too busy too really check em out and bang once again. But I do love the new store
A staff member saw us looking for something and actually came up to us and showed us the isle it was located, great customer service!
I love Sobeys. Their vegetables assortment is varied and good quality. The meat is great, and you can find great beef and pork cuts.
This is one of our favorite grocery stores. The layout seems odd at first, but it works really well. And in a great location too.
Excellent produce, great fish. I bought Atlantic salmon. The staff are always super friendly and available to answer questions.
Prices are a lot higher than other nearby stores and selection in the bakery is poor. They do have nice readymade meals though.
Good store if a limited in selection. Staff are excellent and friendly! Maybe avoid the self check out, it's really annoying.
Friendly staff, good selection. More expensive than some other grocery stores. And you have to pack your own groceries.
Store is a mess. Pillars in the middle of aisles?!? Really? Shelves are bare, prices are way too high. Won’t be back.
Standard Sobeys but super clean and kept that way by a hard working and helpful staff. My favorite grocery store.
Excellent shopping experience, but you pay for it. This is the most expensive place to buy groceries in Kanata.
Great store. Very clean. Great quality produce. A bit pricey. Ample parking. Not the largest meat selection
My favourite grocery store. Always impressed by the quality of the produce and selection of grocery items.
Clean and well stocked . aisles are navigable for wheelchairs I'm begining to know where things are..
They've recently renovated and the layout is very nice and open! The staff is friendly and patient
Great store, quality ingredients and choices a plenty. Mimics a small market atmosphere
