20200516 I attended the reopening of this beloved restaurant. It is good to see a small shop change direction and respond to the current crisis. What I saw inside is a very clean, organized, and well laid out space that I am eager to return to. Everyone working had masks and gloves, keeping lots of distance inside. Outside, there is a cute patio area to wait for food to be cooked fresh. I cannot wait for summer to enjoy food with the overhead string lights. I’m not much of a food critic, but I enjoyed what I ate. I ordered the black pepper tenderloin and a boba milk tea. Boba fit my preference for drinks to be not too sweet and not too bland. The meat is finely sliced, made it easy to portion and eat with the rice. What I was most impressed with is the veggies: so many colors, textures, and I’m certain significant magic to ensure everything was cooked, sequenced, and plated properly. I arrived at 5pm, ordered with the help of Andy. Another patron came to pick up her order shortly after I put mine in. It is good to see this kitchen active again. I am honored to do my part in supporting a small business. Thank you for preparing my meal and all the work that goes on in the background. And back by popular demand, hot and sour soup is here! Yes, weather has been a little bit cooler. Yet even as it warms up, the soup is still delicious. Both the braised beef and soup are healthy: not very much salt. I think one thing that I really appreciate about the places that I’ve been going to recently: the food is prepared and packed so that you can enjoy it at home. Last time, my pork was one top of the rice because the sauce is light and wouldn’t affect the rice. This time, the beef is in its own container so that I could eat when I got home. It’s almost like Christmas when I get home: I have some idea of what I am getting, but the surprise and beauty of presentation is great. 20201118 The pandemic continues, but still a great joy to try different food through the seasons. This is my favorite lunch takeout place in SD. When I arrived, the entrance was clearly marked with distancing tape. Everyone was participating social distancing standing six feet apart. The restaurant had notices on the windows showing how they sanitize regularly and their strict procedure to keep customers and staff safe as their first priority. First of all, the servers are fully equipped with gloves and masks. They even sanitized the machine before and after I paid with my credit card. It makes me feel safe getting the takeouts from this restaurant. They have a good variety of menu items, which consist comfort dishes from cuisines all over the world. I ordered Udon Noodle Soup with Shrimp as an add-on. When I got home (20 mins later) the food was still still hot. The udon noodle soup was packed in an nice togo container that separated the noodle and soup, so the texture of the noodle and vegetables remained great. The noodle and soup were given in good portion. After I open my togo container, I was surprised by how big the portion was, and how much vegetables and shrimps were there. The soup was very tasty and not too salty. I will definitely order it again especially when I want to pick a healthy choice. I also ordered spiced street chicken and Boba Milk Tea. The chicken tastes exactly like what I had in Taiwan, very authentic. The meat is super juicy and well cooked, and the outside is very crispy just on the right point. Their boba milk tea is the bomb! You will be surprised of how delicious their boba milk tea is. One thing I really like about this restaurant is their staff. They follow a strict sanitizing procedure, and they handle my togos professionally. Nevertheless, they are always super friendly and energetic. Their service is efficient and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family.

This place was promoted by neighbors on the NextDoor app when it initially opened just a few months before COVID-19 hit. It received a lot of raving reviews back then so I’ve been meaning to give them a try. Their name, Soup Du Jour and their location in the Olympus Corsair complex made me assume it was a typical American restaurant, but when I checked out their website, I was surprised and delighted to see the Asian influence. After trying their food, it’s anything but typical and they serve plenty of more delicacies than soup. I had their Shiitake & Daikon Soup w/ beef, chicken congee, braised beef pot roast and a milk tea boba. The congee comes with small pieces of fried dough (Traditionally Taiwanese) to dip in the congee and the braised beef is incredibly tender and tasty I usually go to the Kearny Mesa area for boba, but Soup Du Jour is much closer and just as good. In short, everything tasted fresh and delicious. I met Andy whom is super friendly and told me he’s from Taiwan along with his sister and cousin that opened this place. At the time of this post they have 4.9 stars of 33 reviews on Google maps and a solid 5 stars of 99 reviews on Yelp. It’s a solid 5 star for me and I can’t wait to try their other menu items ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The food here is worth trying, but 29% of the time part of the order is inedible. 14% of the time the food tastes meh, but 57% of the time this place is pretty solid. Yes, I’m well aware of my statistics hence those accurate percentages. Braised beef pot roast - Solid flavors Chicken congee - Its decent Corn egg flower soup - It’s decent Crispy spring rolls - It’s okay Honey glazed spare ribs - Good BBQ flavor Sdj bbq chicken - It’s okay Overall the flavors are good and it’s worth trying. The first reason why I’m not going back for a good while is because one time the braised beef was rancid. When I say rancid, I mean it smells like rotten meat. The second reason is because last order of braised beef had a fly in it. Yeah, it was cooked into the food. I don’t need the extra protein. The third is sometimes the chef just may not be having a great day so the food is bland…very meh. Makes me sad because this was one of few actually okay places to go. Maybe it’s just the braised beef… Maybe it’s just the chef… I presented the percentage of satisfactory, so I’ll let you gamble your money away. It’s also mildly expensive too.

Came during the Soft Opening. Soup Du Jour resides on Aero Drive in the space formerly occupied by Carve. The owners are veterans of the local food scene, having run staples such as former fantastic Dumpling Inn. As a Soup place, I wanted to try all the soups but settled for a cup of Albondigas, Corn Chowder with Clam, and Vegan Borscht. Cup of Soup runs you about $6, and a bowl $10. Besides Soup, they offer Stews, Flatbread, Roasted Veggies, and STREET CHICKEN! I love the Chicken, at $7, it was the perfect compliment to the soups. I noticed that they also had a selection of Salad's which read healthy (at least to me) While I was slightly disappointed in the drink selection, and I wanted Congee, I thoroughly enjoyed the eating experience. The decor itself, was clean and modern. IMO a little bit too upscale for the area...however the prices were surprisingly affordable! hopefully this doesnt change too much between now and the Grand Opening. I think you will find yourself pleasantly surprised should you visit.

Stopped in while driving by when I saw the sign for soup. Seemed like a good idea for lunch. I assumed it was a different kind of place. I found out that it's an Asian restaurant, probably Vietnamese, and the kinds of soups are a bit limited. They also serve a number of entrees. The greeter at the temporary counter in the doorway (there is no indoor access right now) was extremely pleasant and hospitable. I chose hot and sour soup with a side of savory doughnuts. How unusual. You can get the doughnuts for free if you check in with an app. The soup was good though probably a little "too" sour to crave again. There was heat in it as well but not too much. The doughnuts were very plain tasting but had a nice crispy texture and complimented the soup. Definitely worth returning to this place and trying something else.

Now let's get to the food. We seen there was Asian and Mexican dishes. I got the tortilla soup, my gf got udon noodle soup. My tortilla soup was amazing, you could see the Lil oil drops of flavorness in my soup, smelled it and the aroma and amount of spices and time put into this soup was absolutely amazing. I had to try my gf udon and that blew me away. Please do not miss out on this gem. I drove from downtown to try them out so I can review them. I can be a harsh food critic and picky. Came here for a quick work lunch. I ordered honey glazed ribs. The sauce was delicious and the meat fell off the bone but was a little charred for my liking. I like that it came with steamed veggies that tasted fresh and not frozen. My friend go the spicy street chicken and it was also good but not very memorable for him. I wanted to try their Thai tea with boba but unfortunately they did not have boba that time.

Fabulous! Nothing like a hot bowl of soup on a cold day! This is our second time visiting. They change their menu with the seasons. The green deliciousness that they offer to dip their homemade taro chips is divine. Everything we've gotten has been tasty. They clearly label their menu for gluten free and vegetarian options. They also offer vegan options. So much to try and reasonably priced. Also, they could not be more helpful or friendly. We really enjoyed sitting outside by the roaring fire while eating our soup!

I'm impressed. I discovered taro chips. Yum. The spicy street chicken popcorn looking thing is tender. I really really enjoyed the mix of spices and the crunch of the breading. The crab mango salad was fresh, bursting with flavor. May be needs a bit more crab meat. A definite favorite. Dakota had the chicken tortilla soup. Quite an authentic flavor. The popping strawberry bobba was a delightful surprise. And then....I looked further into the menu. I want to try most of them. I'm thinking the easiest way will be to have a party and order one of each.....

I ordered the Thai street style chicken plate with an iced coffee! I did order online while I walked over to the shop. The food was ready as soon as I got there. The chicken was seasoned marvelously, it was still juicy and crunchy all together, the rice and steamed veggies were also cooked well! The iced coffee was delicious and the lovely lady working the register made the drink fast! She was also kind to offer any adjustments to the drink if needed.

i’ve only ordered soup du jour through doordash, so i can’t speak for the ambiance but their packaging IS great. i’ve had their veggie udon noodle soup, which is delectable; the soup is flavorful, noodles are just right, and the veggies are crunchy <3. i’ve also had their scallion pancake which is fluffy and yummy. their chicken congee low key saved my life because it’s been so hard to find good congee in san diego. soup du jour is ITT!! honestly i don’t think you can go wrong with anything you order here

Soup is my favorite food category. Especially when I’m sick, of course. And what a wonderful first experience I just had with this establishment. While trying to order on DoorDash, I ran into a technical error. Called the restaurant, and it was handled with the utmost graciousness and service. Food was delivered fast, hot and with minimal waste. Super fresh ingredients, dishes filled with love. Excited to have found this place!

The food is decent. Reasonable price and reasonable portion. The flavor of the food is very good. We also tried the milktea. It's a little too sweet and watery for us. Maybe next time we will just get the black tea. Very good customer services and it is very clean. They flosed down the indoor seating but they have plenty of outdoor seating. We will come back again next time we are craving for some.popcoen chicken or bento box.

Thank you Soup Du Jour for an amazing experience once again. After a not so great day I needed something hot great & affordable so I headed over when I remembered the DELICIOUS bowl of albondigas I had last week. This time I tried the KHARCHO which is new on the menu, I absolutely loved it. LOVED IT!!! Highly recommend this place, the employees are great and very welcoming. They got a good selection of drinks also..

What a wonderful place! The restaurant is quaint and very cute. All food is delicious and there are options for vegetarians, picky eaters, and everyone in between! Also fantastic service, the hostess was wonderful, responsive, and extremely kind. She accommodated our wishes for an extra heater, and the food service was very fast. A gorgeous hidden gem that I can't wait to return to!

Oh my the food was so good. The green sauce is great on everything we ordered. The street chicken is awesome and the taro chips are the best I’ve had. The milk teas were all great too.

I get this delivered a few times a month. The chicken congee is one of the most delicious soups. It is warm, flavorful, and filling. The spiced chicken is also delicious. Make sure you get extra Aji Verde sauce. It's divine.

The food here is delicious. I got the chicken tortilla soup. It was so tasty and they gave a big portion. I also tried their hibiscus iced tea which was yummy and refreshing. Got the hot and sour soup with some spicy street chicken. Chicken was tender and juicy with a light and crispy breading. H&S soup was very good, the other soup selections looked very tasty.

The food here was really good, we got lunch for 5 ppl, so we ordered a few different dishes. The taiwanese style popcorn chicken was definitely the best dish. Highly recommend this place.

The congee was pretty good, although I wish it was thicker and came with more stuff (ex: soy-sauced soaked eggs). 5 stars considering the price and large quantity.
