My Grandmother bought a Pre-Paid funeral plan from Southside Funeral Home in the 1980's. When she passed away recently they would not honor the Pre-Paid Plan. My Grandmother and our family did check with them more than once. The last time was about 5 years ago for Medicaid purposes and they reassured us that the plan would take care of the funeral arrangements. After my Grandmother passed away January 2016 we had Southside Funeral Home pick her body up from the Hospital assuming all would be taken care of. After she was there we were informed that they would not honor the Pre-Paid funeral plan and that we could not have her body until we paid for their services to pick her up and keep her (which is illegal by the way). My Grandmother always told us that we didn't have to worry about her funeral and she was reassured on more than one occasion that that would be the case by Southside Funeral Home. Now our grieving family is having to ask for donations and borrow money to honor my Grandmother's wishes for a proper burial. This is a disgrace. I really don't know how the Owner of this Funeral Home sleeps at night.

My family has been trying to prepare for the passing of a loved one, having had experience in the industry, I step in to help with the most stressful part of it all, looking around for the best and affordable option. I called this funeral home and was greeted decently, but as soon as I asked for a general price list, because we are working on a time, the employee changed her tone with me and even sigh'd. I am honestly so offended at the amount of disconcern and lack of emphaty this lady portrayed over a phone call. I understand that routine can sometimes be frustrating, but you are dealing with people who are loosing someone they love! If you can not remain professional no matter what the issue is, you should reconsider a new line of work.I hope she is never treated that way when she is on the other end of the phone having to do the same thing!

This is the worse place!! If I could give this place a zero/ no stars I would. The owner was so rude and not companionate towards us on a time of grieving. She rushed us out at exactly 9 pm. Also people kept leaving because it was so hot and she had the AC set at 79 degrees, when outside was 112. We asked her several times to change the temperature and she never did. We had my mother in law transported to Mexico and they didn’t even have the decency to let us know that her body had been transported already until we received a call from the Mexico funeral home at midnight to tell us that her body was already over there. The owner needs to learn what customer service is all about!!!

Honestly if you love your loved ones you would love them enough not to bring them to this "funeral home" the directors i guess you could call them do care about your actual family what so ever i guess she thinks shes "professional" but ive met people with an iq of 10 act more professional. Honestly i could say something so drawn out such "id give this place a zero if i could" but no this place is so terrible id use words not appropriate if i could. They had free cookies though but they were still bad.

This place is a joke. They are so unprofessional and do not communicate properly. For our viewing it was extremely hot inside and we had to argue with the lady to turn up the AC. At the end she basically kicked us out at 9pm. Then they did let us know that our loved ones body was already transported until midnight. Do not reccomend this place! This is not something anyone should be dealing with at a time like this.

We had my mother’s viewing there yesterday and they did a wonderful job from beginning to end. Mr. Avila was very kind and professional. They went above and beyond. My mother looked beautiful, they did exactly what we asked for. I highly recommend them. It’s a hard time for anyone who loses a loved one but they really made this process very easy for us. I absolutely appreciate everything they did for our family.

Fantastic service. The directors were very compassionate during our difficult time. I would have been lost without their help, there were many details I didn’t realize I needed to take care of and they helped me through every step. Thank you for being patient with my family.

This place was horrible. The lady was beyond rude. She completely overstepped her boundaries and spoke to my family in a horrible tone. Was not professional at all. We were rushed to say our final goodbyes even tho we still had time left. Please avoid using this place!!!

Horrible place wouldnt want my worst enemy to have there viewing there.Staff was super unsupportive of our grieving family didn't get a chance to enjoy our last moments with our loved one because they were in such a rush to close.

Recently attended a service here and I was very impressed with the homey atmosphere. Everyone was very kind and no one wants to go to a funeral but they did a great job of making me feel more at ease during this difficult time.

We went to Southside Funeral Home to purchased a pre-needs plan. Jay was very kind and helpful. He made sure we had answers to all our questions and if we had any questions later, to call him.

Thank you to the wonderful and sincere staff for taking care of my aunt. Y'all did an amazing job on her and the price was well below the other local funeral homes we priced. Thank you again.

I’ve never written a review, but letting a family grieve, within the time frame given to them should be simple. Instead we were rushed out by a rude lady that worked there.

Had services for my godmother she looked beautiful just like herself. Funeral director was amazing! I will highly recommend this funeral home to my friends and family.
