Highly recommended – Eat-in or takeaway – Licenced. The Spice Durbar is the old Resunga Indian Curry Restaurant & Bar under new management. Sandwiched awkwardly between a café and a swimming pool shop on Mona Vale Rd in St Ives, on the face of it the Spice Durbar appears to be a simple Indian takeaway with a bain-marie in front. But take the time to step behind the takeaway area and you enter the newly renovated Spice Durbar Indian and Nepalese cuisine restaurant and bar! Seating for ~50 people and ample parking in the area. The Resunga has recently changed management and rebranded as the Spice Durbar. They have renovated to lighten the interior and removed the semi-transparent picture on the main windows which prevented people outside from seeing the interior. The result is an airy, minimalist decorated restaurant with a top-notch menu! As the new management is from Nepal, the Spice Durbar is putting the emphasis on Nepalese dishes so while it has all the standard Indian favourites such as Palak Paneer and Bombay Beef (medium or hot) it also has a section of Nepali Specials: Vegetarian or Chicken Momo (steamed dumplings); Vegetarian or Chicken Chowmein; Chicken Chilli; Chicken Choila and Chicken Sekuwa (boneless chicken marinated in Nepalese spices served with beaten rice and Nepalese pickle). The bar from the old Resunga remains and has a good range of spirits as well as two beers on tap. As we were visiting as too early for spirits we stuck with the tap beers, being a Cernovar dark lager with coffee and caramel tastes and a light, euro-style life-saver which was neither too hoppy nor too fruity. Both matched the food very well. We had the Chicken Biryani (as they were out of goat when we were there), the Masala Baingain and from the Nepali specials, the Chicken Sekuwa. We also had rice, Naan and the standard papadums with pickle. The Biryani was excellent and the ‘medium’ spice level was hot enough to be flavoursome but not so much as to be difficult to eat. Biryani is a typically dry, baked-rice dish. We knew what to expect with this dish and we were well pleased. We also hugely enjoyed the Masala Baingain which is eggplant cooked with onion, capsicum and spices. The eggplant was cubed, cooked and was moist and delicious! It had a rich sauce from the vegetables but not a creamy sauce as you often find with curries. The surprise delight was the Chicken Sekuwa, however. We didn’t know what to expect from Nepali cooking and the other menu items made it look like a blend of Chinese and Indian (understandable given the country’s location). The spices on the chicken were mild and it had been baked on a skewer, I think in a tandoor, which gave it an additional element. The beaten rice was a little like eating spicy rice bubbles, but flatter and not sweet. Think of each grain being flattened and then baked. The staff at Spice Durbar were very friendly and attentive but didn’t hover while we were trying to eat which was nice. The young lady who served us recommended the Chicken Momo and said she would eat it all the time, anytime! We’d already ordered by then but we’ll certainly be going back to Spice Durbar to try the Momo!
We have been going to Spice Durbar since they originally opened. This family owned restaurant provides the best original Nepalese Indian food, customer service and atmosphere anywhere in Sydney. We always feel we are dining in the family’s personal home dining room. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best Nepalese Indian experience with good value for money. Well done Spice Durbar family!

We had masala chai and samosa chaat here this afternoon. The chai was nice but the chaat was nothing close to an Indian chaat! To start with, it took them forever to get the food. And when it finally came after a loooongish wait, it seemed like some leftovers mixed together. Cucumbers and lime juice in a chaat?! Never tasted anything like it before We had a couple papaddums thrown in with super sweet “mint” chutney as complimentary to make up for the delay. All this when there was just another group of 6-7 besides us at the restaurant when we went in. The staff was friendly and polite but that doesn’t make up for the food at all!
Best food overall I had in 15 years (all cuisines). Best indian food I had in 10 years and best chicken Momo I had ever. So impressed by the flavours and tender meats. For me as an ex chef it’s always hard to find quality like this. As i am very spoiled with years of excellent food! So thank you so much to the owners, especially dropping off the food personally as their driver was unable to. You will see us way to often frequenting or ordering from your place from now on! Obsessed!

Came here for the first time the other night and dined in. The most beautiful family-run business with great food and service. The momo were a stand out (we got both the chicken and vegetarian), and loved the goat biryani too. We were curious over a dish that used "beaten rice" and when asking what it was, we were given some to try! Thank you for the beautiful gesture, the great conversation, and the warm welcome. We will be back (and cant wait to try the beaten rice as part of a dish!). Great to have great Nepalese food in the local joint.

An unassuming, yet authentic Indian place in northern suburbs. Delicious food served beautifully in copper dinnerware which added to the experience. The biryani was to die for - perfectly cooked rice, bold and balanced spices and succulent chicken. Very fresh. The staff were polite and lovely. Will definitely return.

I’ve noticed the former shop closed down a while ago and never bothered to make a stop here since the previous tenants could not reach yet 4 stars. But this one was a great surprise. Incredibly nice. Very reasonable price. I think I’m coming back tonight again. Please keep up with the good job. Hard to find soft meat in Rogans. But this one was soft and tasty. Congrats!
Fantastic family-run business - great food at reasonable prices. Had a quick takeaway eggplant masala and freshly made garlic naan from the front window area - was great! They had made some extra cheese naans so offered them to me for free - very friendly and generous. Thank you!

I liked this place. The food portion was reasonably serving, the service was good and the cost of food reasonable. They have a decent dine in oprion. Different from other Indian restaurants that give you only a spoon for your meal, this place gives you a spoon and fork withput having to ask.

My favourite restaurant in Sydney, possibly in Aus. The food is amazing and they can cater almost all their dishes to be vegan. Perfect spices and unique flavours. If you haven’t had good Nepalese food or momos you need to go here!

The beef was tough and inedible, the chicken was tasteless and contained bone chips and gristle, the naan was crisp the rice was good. Enjoy
Excellent food and great service doesn't look much from the outside but don't be fooled. The food is fabulous and affordable.

One of the best indian restaurants I’ve ever been to , Great food, staff members and services..Well done guys
Chicken momos and chutney was good. Lamb pieces were not that soft, so scope of improvement in lamb dishes.
I eat here regularly when working in the area. Great food and the lunch specials are wonderful
