Extremely bad service! I love Vergelegen and often visit the beautiful gardens....but Stables restaurant will never see me again. The service was non-existing. Food arrived with no small plates (as we were sharing a pizza) the plates took another 10 minutes to get. Then we had to again find a waiter to bring us salt and pepper. Then AGAIN waited 12 minutes for garlic and chilli to arrive. Meanwhile our pizza was cold. We still don't know who our waitress was because everytime someone else would bring us the stuff in drips and draps. Waited so long for the drinks. It was only 2 glasses of wine but took 15 minutes to get to the table I had to plead with the waitress telling her how thirsty we were and how we were looking forward to the glass of wine. Then again had to ask for ice...wine was already warm in the sun when that eventually arrived. We asked one of the many waitresses we wanted to speak to the manager....she never arrived. My partner had to go and look for her after 10 minutes and all she said was she was sorry and then proceeded to heat up our pizza. The whole experience nearly spoiled our lovely Sunday. At the very least we should have been offered the food or drinks complimentary after all this! I will not recommend anyone to go there. Also there was a group of children busy breaking huge branches off a tree and swinging in the tree like hooligans. Since the parents of these brats were to useless to control them I feel that management should have done something. We go there to enjoy the beautiful nature there not to see how a tree is being destroyed.

Our waiter was Confidence. He was friendly, attentive and thorough and knew his menu!!! I ordered the slow cooked pork neck which was So delicious !!!! My boyfriend had the sirloin burger with blue cheese which was abundant in chips and onion rings as a side! Total plus! The drinks and desserts are also to die for and TOPS: our 6 month old daughter absolutely loved the friendly family environment and the kids playarea and baby changing area is great. Only suggestion is that the nappy bin be manned and checked for regular disposal as it stunk a bit and a hygiene spray and paper should be left at the changing facility so moms can wipe down before and after to maintain the area in a hygienic state. Other that that all the amenities was awesome and the lovely walk through the vineyard and the “forest” and greenery was fantastic and so lovely after our meal. This is the best of the Cape! I’ll definitely be back and recommend it to all families

We went for Lunch. The restaurant is and atmosphere is nice the setting is absolutely beautiful, but the food very average. We wanted mussels and they out, they didn't have ribeye steak. I then opted for a veggie wrap which then came without the chickpeas and cashew nuts, they had to take that back. My husband decided to go for chicken which he enjoyed. I had a starter calamari which consisted of 3 calamari steak strips which were tough.I would have thought after all this inconvenience the manager would offer a free glass of wine or at least some kind of compensation but nothing at all. Customer service not very good. Not recommended and totally overpriced. I will definitely go back but to relax and have a glass of wine on the beautiful estate.

One of the choices selected from menu was not available so selected another. The 3 other people ordered the same thing which was prepared and held back until all could be served. Because of delay the ciabatta was hard and impossible to cut through it. Secondly the farm cured ham was inedible. Hard and tasted sour and difficult to cut through. This is the 1st time I have ever complained about food and after a 10 day trip with close friends from KZN to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday,eating at many different restaurants and wine estates it was a huge disappointment and a total waste of money.

Booking was for lunch and we were told the venue was available from 10h00. We were a group of 8 ladies all over 75 years of age, for a 60th matric reunion. The booking was done 1 month in advance. On arrival we were told the booked venue was not available as they were painting it and that we must have breakfast as the tables for lunch were fully booked. In end we had to sit outside in the garden on rather uncomfortable chairs, with only 2 cushions available. We did have lunch. Will definately not visit again. The food was very good.

We were a group of moms and their busy babies at Stables restaurant and I must absolutely commend them on their efforts to accommodate us. Heated floors, lots and space and an incredible waitress. (I didn’t get her name but I would recommend her to anyone going there). The breakfast was okay. Nothing really special but I will have to come back to try the rest of the menu to see. Stopped in for afternoon tea after a leisurely walk around the beautiful gardens at Vergelegen. Allow 1 to 2 hours for exploring the extensive gardens. The tea offerings did not appear anywhere on the menu provided and had to be coaxed out of the waiter verbally, no tea menu was available. The cakes were generous and beautifully presented with seasonal flowers. The restaurant setting is beautiful with views over the water feature, garden and majestic mountains. This was a beautiful place to stop and take in the glorious views.

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is good as well. However, their menu is limited and my food was so underwhelming. I ordered a lamb shank and it had NO flavour at all. No salt, no pepper, no herbs, no spices, nothing at all. I guess it was just a wrong food choice, the waitress recommended it and I thought I should give it a try. My partners meal was good though, I tasted his Risotto and linefish and it was delicious. I would definitely not recommend that lamb shank, it's not a value for money.

Incredible food and service complimented by stunning scenery! The staff are not only welcoming but incredibly adept. I recommend making a booking for a table prior to arrival. The prices (although a bit steep) are absolutely worth it for the quality of the food that is served. Our table had the Bacon woodfire pizza, Vergelegen Bacon, and Chicken burger, all of which were delicious. Compliments to the manager Stephen and supervisor Jamie for 5 star service. Will definitely be visiting again!

Stables is a beautiful restaurant that is situated inside Vergelegen, one of the most attractive wine estates in South Africa. Equal to the posh approach of the estate, the setting of Stables is equally posh. The external patio has beautiful views. If there's a minor complaint, it's that the items on the menu of the restaurant are overpriced, especially when compared to similar restaurants in other estates.

Exceptional service, delicious food, breathtakingly beautiful. We sat outside under the trees. They made lots of effort to accommodate our large group, carrying tables around. They made dairy free smoothies for us. Kids ran around playing on the grass and at the play area (the play area is slightly further away from the tables, so very small kids will probably need to be accompanied there). The waitress (Nuraan) was excellent. We felt well looked after by her. Thanks, we will be back!

What a beautiful setting!! We had the mussels and boboti for lunch with a creme brule for dessert. The food and service were both good. Slightly above average in price but certainly worth it considering the beautiful surroundings.

We went for a late lunch on Saturday and was accommodated to order a meal even though the kitchen was a minute from closing. We had excellent service, especially from our waitress, Nuhraan. She recommended the Cape Malay Lamb Curry dish, wish was absolutely delicious. We had a lovely bottle of Vergelegen Semillon Reserve, which I also highly recommend. We went for a walk in the beautiful gardens too. All in all a 5 star experience.

Manager, Stephen, the worst of the lot. My brand new dress got ruined by their wooden table splinters, and he behaved as though I had made the whole thing up. In his words.."it's the first time that this has happened and unfortunately there's nothing we can do"... and then turned around and walked away, ruining the whole ambiance of the day...

Lovey venue, but to call the breakfast mediocre would be generous. Absolutely no effort is made to deliver an enjoyable plate of food. Eggs overdone, mushrooms bland, sausage overcooked, toast chewy, butter rock hard. I can cook a better breakfast without even trying. When I pay for one at a place like this, I at least expect it to be better than average.

Excellent restaurant for breakfast, lunch or just tea. It offers indoor and outdoor seating. Kids are wellcome and they offer a kiddies menu too. We were a group of 12, and we received excellent service. Our food was excellently prepared and a feast for the eye, good value for money and I can recommend their wines, too. Pre-booking is essential.

Great meal for a family member’s birthday. Lovely setting, we walked around the gardens after the meal. Ordered chicken sandwich and it did not come with chips and at its price point, a side should be included, hence 4 stars. Very good service, no complaints.

We went for breakfast to Stables. We hadn't booked, but the waiter managed to secure us some beautiful couch seating. The coffee at stables is to die for, I haven't had a coffee like that in many years. We ordered a full breakfast for R90+- and wow, the portions sizes are large and the food so tasty. We will absolutely be back.

Beautiful setting and the breakfast dishes looked and tasted delectable! I just have one little request that you please make sure that your croissants are fresh, especially on a Sunday morning. I was disappointed by a stale tasting, almost bready like croissant this morning at my very first visit. Will definitely revisit!

Amazing good and stunning settings. Food was delicious and not at all pricey! Wildebeest instead of the venison was so smoky and tender! Deep fried ice cream for dessert was great also! Portions were generous and all locally sourced, service was outstanding also, taking time to explain options and wine! Fully recommend!

The Cape at its best. Setting irreproachable, neat gardens, surrounded by mountains. Staff friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu. Food scrumptious and fresh. Dessert menu gets 10 out of 10. Will definitely return. Enjoy. Remember to do wine tasting and a tour of the wine cellar. Highly recommended.

Great service and friendly staff, but they serve terrible pizzas. In fact, the pizza I had there was one of the worst ones I ever ordered anywhere. The base looked and tasted like those cheap frozen ones you buy at the supermarkets. The other foods we ordered was much better.

Possibly the finest views of the Helderberg basin mountains and Vergelegen Wine Estate farmland from the restaurant terrace. Wonderful kids play area. Carries the mantle of excellence that is synonymous with Vergelegen. Upmarket culinary destination for locals and visitors.

Fantastic setting, needless to say. Food and service have improved tremendously. The play area is nice and big. Note that it's not right next to the seating area, so you won't see a small toddler from your table - but any kid 3+ should be pretty safe there. More

Friendly staff, great coffee and scones and beautiful views. Much loved by seniors who walk as the farm now had an easy gravel track which is about 4km as a circuit. We always end up at the Stables.

Location is lovely but service is not only bad but also slow and unfriendly. While some menu items are acceptable the panna cotta should be served with breakfast as yoghurt with a fruit salad.
