I will start by saying that I debated writing this review, because I acknowledge the damage that negative reviews can have on small businesses. The baked goods at Sugared and Spiced have been and are wonderful. They are a special treat that I was really hoping our family could enjoy this Halloween. I inquired by email a week prior to see if a vanilla Halloween themed cake could be ordered. I did not see the option on the website, so I thought it was best to reach out directly. I had not heard by mid-week, so I phone and asked if it was possible to order. I was told that they didn't know what they were doing for Halloween this year, and that I would hear back the following day. That came came and went and again, radio silence from Sugared and Spiced. I still really wanted a cake so right at opening on Saturday, I called and asked if they had a Vanilla Halloween-themed cake and if so, if I could pay and have it set aside. I was told that they did not do that and that it was first come-first-served. So, I rushed from the North East to get there for 10:15, and of course, the woman in front of me purchased the cake. The Owners were apologetic, but I did notice that there were other Halloween cakes that were reserved for other customers. I was confused - was it me that they didn't want to sell to? Was I not their preferred customer? Why didn't I get a response? Honestly, I am not sure how or why this happened, but it has discouraged me from returning, even though their baked good are lovely. I wish I could have had transparency or clear communication up front- if they didn't have room or weren't able to make an additional cake, that would have been fine, and at least I could have ordered a cake elsewhere. Unfortunately this really damped my view of this business and I will be going elsewhere in the future.
Full disclosure, I’ve known the owners for two decades now. But if anything, I think that just gives me the credibility to say that they are the sweetest, most genuine people you’re ever going to meet. If supporting local businesses is at all a priority for you, you won’t find a more deserving hardworking local startup than these two. Honestly though, even if they were jerks, the baking here is so good that I would probably still recommend the place. A few weeks ago, we picked up a Chocolate Coconut cake for my daughter’s birthday. Ordering it online was super easy and quick, and I was even able to pay in advance – saving time on pickup. The cake itself was phenomenally moist and flavourful. The meringue decorations were absolutely delicious, and even the macaron was snapped up by the birthday girl instantly. To emphasize the passion they have for their baking, I was given very specific storage and preparation instructions for optimal enjoyment. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t able to follow them in the slightest, and the cake was still incredible. The cakes themselves may look small, but their height is deceiving…being so tall, you probably end up with a similar volume of cake as you would get anywhere else. But at the same time, this maximizes the side-frosting (which everyone knows is superior to top-frosting). The store is filled with goodies for you to try, but the cakes do require some notice. Hey, to get the culinary thumbs-up from a 13 year old girl…it’s worth the wait. The store itself is easy enough to find: just go out the main entrance to the Strathcona Farmer's Market and keep going straight...they're tucked in a little back alley.
Sugared & Spiced Baked Goods Inc. is a bakery that I've been following on Twitter for a while, and I finally had the chance to visit this delightful establishment. From the moment we stepped inside, the service at Sugared & Spiced was inviting and friendly. The staff made us feel welcome, adding to the overall positive experience. The atmosphere of the bakery is truly captivating. The brick interior gives it a cool and appealing look, creating a visually pleasing bakery setting. As soon as you enter, your eyes are greeted with a colorful display of cakes and an assortment of amazing baked goods that will make your mouth water. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the s'more square. It was incredibly delicious and left us craving for more. The combination of gooey marshmallow and rich chocolate created a mouthwatering treat that was simply irresistible. Additionally, my 4-year-old son had a delightful experience with his sprinkle cookie. The cookie was adorned with colorful sprinkles, making it visually appealing and enjoyable for young ones with a sweet tooth. Overall, I highly recommend Sugared & Spiced Baked Goods Inc. The inviting service, cool atmosphere with its brick interior, and the visually appealing array of colorful cakes and delectable baked goods make it a must-visit bakery. Don't miss the opportunity to try their amazing treats, and make sure to indulge in their mouthwatering s'more square. It's a bakery experience that will leave you with a satisfied sweet tooth and a desire to come back for more.
This is one of Edmonton's best hidden gems. We have loved their artful and delicious cakes long before their gorgeous bakery opened, and we have enjoyed everything they have added to the menu since. The cookies are divine (lime sugar is my personal fave and apparently I get a gleam in my eye when I look at them), the hand pies (available savoury or sweet) are ridiculously good and the variety of sweet goods they put out every day will please any sweet tooth. On top of everything, the family running it are the people you see there, day in and day out. They care about the community, they care about their customers and they care about cake. What more could you expect from someone? :-) I should also mention that they brew excellent and consistently awesome fresh-roasted coffee that pairs well with everything they bake. I see a recent review says otherwise, and that they experienced this not once, but twice. OK then. If this were true, why would someone not just point it out to the place? They would obviously want to take care of you. I do note that the same person gave the lowest common denominator in baking and coffee (Tim Hortons, of all places - blech!) a 5-star review an hour later, so that tells me a lot about their palate. You do you at Timmies, boo, and I'll stick to Sugared & Spiced where I don't have to hate myself after each visit.
Nice owners and nice bakery but just an okay experience recently. I ordered a purple cake for my 2 year old’s birthday with purple macarons but when the macarons came they were the ugliest shade of grey with pink filling. To add to that, the texture was extremely hard and crunchy, even 3-4 days later! I’m not sure why they didn’t become chewy after a couple of days (assuming they were made the day before because that’s when I put the order in). I understand it’s holiday season and they are busy but they were very bad with correspondence. They didn’t even call or email to confirm the cake order the week of like they said they would in their email and when I emailed them to ask about it, they didn’t even get back to me. Ultimately I had to call the day before the birthday party to confirm that a cake was being delivered the next day. Funny part is after the birthday party, they suddenly had time to email me right away about making the payment. Overall, the cake was beautiful but extremely dense even though flavor profile was pretty good (chocolate raspberry). Hopefully my experience with them next time will be better since I joined their cake club after seeing their Instagram photos!
Delicious cake, meringue and pastry! We went in first thing in the morning to order a cake for the day, they had 4" cake ready, for $40-$45, but they also had 6" being decorated at the moment, we opt in the cookie n creme 6" with two macarons to write birthday messages. They wrote our info down to call us as soon as the cake was ready ! The staff ate friendly and helpful! We also bought the poached pear meringue, which was heavenly ! $5 for a big big piece that was crunchy, chewy, soft and delicious ! We also ordered a blueberry tea biscuit $5, it smelled amazing ! The cake is made of real butter cream, which was buttery and creamy, and the cake was the perfect amount of sweetness! My mom doesnt like sweet things or chocolate, but she loved the cake ! We all did ! If you dont mind spending a bit more on a cake, do give this place a try, it wont disappoint you ! Worth every penny ! Also, they informed us, if we cant finished the cake (which for 6 adults, 2 kids, 1 baby we barely made a dent), to freeze the left overs and it will be like a ice cream cake, no lies, it taste amazing cold or room temperature!
Holy moly, what a great spot! The introduction to Sugared and Spiced was through the Fringe Festival. The Varscona theatre was promoting the store with a few of their cookies. I was a little hesitant at first as I always am when I buy $3 cookies, but I decided to give one a try. It was surprisingly good so I decided to go to the store (which is located behind the Varscona theatre). I ordered two things when I went in, a white chocolate Brownie, which is called a Wendie, and a classic coconut macaroon. I wanted a small bite out of the macaroon before I drove home, two minutes later it was gone. I really like macaroons, but I do not hesitate when I say that this was the best macaroon I've ever had. But the Wendie was one of the best deserts I've ever had. It was fresh, rich, and moist. This is one of the best bakery's I've ever been to and, if you don't mind spending a little money for exquisite treats, it is well worth your time. The owners are also really polite and open to any questions you might have. I hope they keep up the great work!
My husband and I have been a fan of Sugared and Spiced for years and have tried really hard to support them during the pandemic. We recently got married and wanted Sugared and Spiced to make our wedding cake. I filled out the online form in August. When I hadn't heard anything after a couple weeks I went into the shop and inquired. I talked to one of the owners and they knew about my request and assured me they'd respond over the next week. This didn't happen. Instead I finally heard back in mid October - two months after I first sent in my request! And at this time they told me they were unable to make the wedding cake. This left us scrambling to find a replacement rather last minute. This entire process was disappointing. It's not that they couldn't make the cake - it was the very poor communication and customer service we received during the process. We were highly unimpressed and haven't been back since.
I wanted to order a cake from this shop especially after seeing their Instagram story about needing support as COVID-19 has been tough on them. I used the website cake order page and placed an order more than 7 days prior to my event (cake orders require a minimum 7 days notice). On the website it says you will receive a response within 24hrs but I was not contacted at all. I emailed Amy inquiring to see if no response means they can’t complete the order but again received no reply. It’s such a shame because I really wanted to support local and help them out during this tough time but unfortunately now I have to look elsewhere because my event is coming up quick and I need a reliable shop to communicate effectively with me.
I'm unable to decide my favourite treat from Amy and Jeff and their team at Sugared & Spiced because there are so many that are delicious. The Peanut Butter Squares are amazing and a perfect size. The Nanaimo Bars have a few brightly coloured sprinkles that are delightful - first we eat with our eyes, yes? - and they taste as good as they look. The ginger cookies are addictive. I've given their cakes as birthday presents several times and look like a hero because of them - thanks for that, Amy and Jeff! Truly, you can't go wrong by stopping at Sugared & Spiced. They also deliver if you can't make it to their store in person.
Wife and I ordered one of almost anything. It was too hard to choose. They do that, them bakeries. Instead of one tasty item they offer multiple baked items that look so good you can only mumble one of each. So far we have tried this pretzel, caramel cheesecake and lemon meringue tart. The cheesecake shouldn’t work because it is very heavy but it does paired with the softer caramel. You can’t stop eating it. Most lemon tarts are too sour, this one is a little sweeter. The best part is the crust isn’t hard to break. I find many of the lemon tart crusts are more like a hard cookie, hard to break apart.
I have been here twice. The cafe is pretty, only two tables to sit, there is no lattes or specialty coffees, basic brewed coffee, but it was tasting burnt but also watered down, not sure how that’s possible. (Cat piss coffee sorry) Cute place to grab something to go, but the price point is very high in comparing it with other popular bakeries in Edmonton. The s’mores meringue was amazing ! I think that overtime this new bakery will hire more people and probably get a proper espresso machine, more tables and chairs and places to hang your coat.... I’ll visit in the future to see if it gets better :)
I don’t like cake generally, but the cakes *look* incredible and I bet they taste amazing if you’re a person partial to cake. Everyone I know who’s gotten a cake from this place thinks they are incredible. I bet the cakes are amazing. I go there for the great cookies or squares or tarts. I eat them myself or to give as a gift, everything I’ve ever eaten there has been fantastic. You cannot go wrong. It’s a great shop, in a fun location. The staff are super nice, too. They must see dozens or sometimes hundreds of people every day and they’re always very good natured and nice to every customer.
Hidden gem of Edmonton! We had our wedding cake made by them and it was perfect! We wanted something more fun than a traditional wedding cake and they delivered! The cake was so delicious. It was the main thing I was looking forward to on the wedding day. But!!! They also have other treats!! The brownies are probably the best in Edmonton. The cookies are the perfect amount of crunchy and chewy. I could go on but I'm drooling a little thinking about all their treats. Also!! The owners are so friendly! We feel like a part of their family whenever they greet us We love this bakery!
Ordered 50 boxes with 1 tart & 1 cheesecake for our company Valentine's treat and all staff LOVED them!! Everyone is asking what our next treat will be! :) The presentation was beautiful and picking up the order was so easy. Thank you for the super delicious treats!! Also ordered 4 dozen classic cupcakes & 6 epic cupcakes for a 20th work anniversary. The special details on the cupcakes brightened the celebrations and made the event much more special for the person we were celebrating!! Thank you for beautiful & delicious cupcakes!
My partner and best friend splurged on one of their custom cakes for my birthday and let me say it was worth every cent. They designed a stunning galaxy-themed cake with rainbow meringue and macarons in clouds of fluffy white frosting. The inside was chocolate with cookies and cream buttercream. And cakes are really just the beginning. The store is tucked away in a back alley and has a few chairs and tables for customers interested in having a coffee. I experienced the staff as very friendly and the store itself is so cute.
One of our favourite bakeries in Edmonton! Located down near whyte ave so a great place is your out and walking around. We’ve ordered their cakes for special occasions and they’ve always been super delicious! They’re expensive but definitely worth the price you way. We also love just going into the shop and getting an assortment of goodies. Sweet and savoury it’s always good. They used to make these pizza pocket things that were to DIE for. The gentleman who is usually behind the till is always super friendly and helpful!
Everything about this bakery is exceptional. The cakes and bakery treats are unbelievable, the space is beautiful, and the customer service is incredible, including the creative ways they've implemented to continue to serve their customers safely during the pandemic. I highly recommend the blueberry teacakes, but order in advance or go early because these go fast! And if you want to wow your guests, order one of their cakes for your next special event, they are both beautiful and delicious. Trust me, go here.
This is one of the best bakeries in the entire city. I absolutely love their cakes and hand pies, but their passion fruit tarts are my favourite dessert! The curd has so much flavour and I’ve never had a better one. The customer service is always great as well. Right before COVID hit and things started shutting down I placed a large order for a work party and had to cancel last minute. It was such a simple and easy thing to get done and I was very thankful for that. Highly recommend Sugared and Spiced!!!!
Sugared and Spiced made the cakes for our wedding and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! The carrot cake was moist and delicious. I had so many guests come and ask me where I got the cakes from. She also was able to accommodate for our gluten free guests with an unreal brown with cream cheese icing and caramel. And her customer service was awesome. Amy really was the easiest part about planning my wedding, from ordering the cakes to pick up. She is definitely my go to baker from now on :)
Definitely worth every calorie. We usually head there on Saturdays after Strathcona Market because it's right across the way in the back alley of Whyte Ave (which is being gentrified quite nicely) and all that Market walking is like a caloric excuse to enjoy S&S baked delights. Their cinnamon buns are exactly how I like them, and I had a buttertart square that was heaven. in. every. bite! Update: now with new hours. Thurs-Sunday. Their brownie today saved me!! Always good to talk to Jeff and Amy!!!
This place has some of the best baked goods in the city. I try to visit as often as possible on the weekend. Given I have I lived close by, that has been easy. If you are checking out the farmers market though, I would recommend a detour here. From the look of it, they make great cakes to order too. They have a lighter roast coffee if that is your thing. If not, perhaps if enough people ask, they will bring a dark roast. They brought cheesecake back after all. Now if only they made it to order!
They are LITERALLY behind our store and we LOVE it :) Everyday, smells creep over to the store, through the vents, while they bake, and we melt inside. We have worked with Jeff & Amy for a few events we have had in store and, of course, our customers loved all their baked goods! We talk about them often.. maybe a little too much? ;) How can you not being such close neighbors <3 I'm shocked I'm just doing this review now. Shame on me. THEY'RE GREAT. GO SEE THEM YESTERDAY! -Signe & Flue staff <3
I got the cookies and cream cake for my friend birthday and we all love it ! A serving for about over 20 people, amazing cake design for $60. Steal, if you think this is expensive for 3 layering cake, think again. I've got cake done at home for $150 and wasn't anything special. These business have overheads, so the price for me was very affordable . The cake was so moist and soft and I love the Cookies and cream icing. To die for ! I can't wait to get my birthday cake this weekend !!
The quality of the baked goods here is second to none... Not only has everything tasted amazing, they're always coming up with the most unique treats that keeps our imagination going and keeps getting us to come back for MORE!!!! Jeff (Salesman and Troublemaker...from their website :D) is always super hospitable and caring towards his guests and we always have great conversations about Edmonton and the economy as a whole... Love this place and can't recommend it enough!!!
This place is a bit hidden as it’s in a back alley. I’ve only found them because they had a sign on the street. I’ve only tried the passion fruit lemon tart. It was beautifully decorated. The taste was really good too. It was a nice balance between the lemon and the passion fruit and it’s not too sour. The meringue on top was great too. Their cakes look so beautiful. The server was really friendly and explained well to me the different items that they have.
Neat use of old architecture as this site is attached to an old building built in about 1910. Has original bricks on the back wall. Serves Phil and Sebastian coffee which is okay. I would go elsewhere if coffee is your goal. The decorated cakes look excellent though I did not try any. Had a chocolate cookie which had excellent flavor. Has raspberry liqueur in it which adds a different flavor. Would go again for the baking and get coffee elsewhere.
Sugared and Spiced has been our go-to for baked goods since before they had a storefront to go to. Their cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful, their tarts are the best I’ve ever had, the brownies are the stuff of legend in the city, their ginger cookies are sugar-covered comfort, their merengues satisfy all sweets cravings simultaneously by being both crisp and gooey. And to top it off, the owners are amazing members of the community.
I visited here for the first time the other day with a friend, and I was definitely not disappointed! It was near the end of the day, so I knew that the selection would not be as good, but luckily they still had some lemon meringue tarts left! While the custard itself wasn't quite as tart as I usually like it to be, the meringue was the best I've had in the city. It was light and fluffy and just perfect. I will definitely be back for more!
I ordered 4 gingerbread houses from Jeff and Amy for my co-workers, as I know the quality that Sugared & Spiced creates! Unfortunately I ordered them on Friday to pickup on Saturday during one of the busiest weekends of the year. Amy went out of her way to make sure that I got them by closing time on Saturday, even though they were so busy with Christmas orders. Service and amazingly tasty baking. Who could want for more? Thanks again.
I have tried so many baked goodies in my lifetime and I have to say this place is phenomenal! I went there for the first time last week and grabbed some cookies, a danish and a cinnamon bun. They were all delicious. Special kudos to the cinnamon bun because it was the perfect balance of cinnamon-sugar goodness. The staff members were really lovely. I'll absolutely be back and I plan to try a cake for the next occasion that pops up.
I am visiting Edmonton for the first time so I don’t know any bakery’s around here. I found out about Sugared & Spiced online. I immediately called because I wanted to surprise my cousin with a cake. The gentleman that answered my call was really kind and he has an excellent customer service. They were able to accommodate me for the same day.The cake decoration was great and the flavor of the cake amazing! 100% recommended.
Hands down, The best bakery in Edmonton. The cakes are delicious with icing that is not so sweet that it hurts your teeth. I bought a take away cake for my daughter's birthday-lucky to get one on short notice-it was super scrumptious. Made from scratch never tasted so good. I can't wait for my cake in a few weeks! I did not take a chance of not getting one-they usually sell out- and I preordered! Lucky me- Thank you
I can’t begin to tell you how good this bakery is. The scones are amazing, the cakes are Artisanal. The owners will not sell anything that isn’t perfect. The customer service is exceptionally good, and the front end is run like clockwork. They have struggled through good times and bad but remain kind and committed to contributing to the community as well as serving up some of the best baked goods in Edmonton.
It was super easy to order and pick up the cake for a family event. The cake survived gravel roads in Central AB! The macaron with the "Happy Birthday" is a nice touch since it meant my dad could monch it before the JW family showed up and they were none the wiser, haha. Also, everyone loved the cake flavour of chocolate raspberry. My 95 year old great aunt - who is not a sweets person - ate three pieces!
Designs and cakes look amazing but the taste is really nothing special. The icing in between cake layers were way too sweet and felt like I was eating straight butter. The icing to cake ratio was also way off. Way too much icing and not enough cake. If you just want to eat sugar, then go here. Don't think this place was worth the very high price. Go somewhere else and get a cake for almost half the price.
Sugared and Spiced is one of Edmonton's best kept secrets. This little bakery off Whyte Avenue is only accessible from the alley across from the Varscona Theatre. Not a lot of folks know about it because it doesn't have a front facing brand. Alas, these folks make incredible pastries. They have the best cakes and their service is impeccable...they are all so friendly and helpful. 5 x
Fantastic baking! I brought a box of cookies to my nephew for his birthday and he'd texted me two minutes later to say thank you and how great the cookies are! This Christmas his family is getting the whole Holiday box! My favourite Sugared & Spiced treat are the incredible meringues with pears. The efficiency, professionalism and friendliness keeps me coming back as much as the fabulous products.
Went to farmer's market and saw the back alley bakery as we were leaving, stopped by to check it out. What a lucky break the place is beautiful inside, once you see the cakes in the display case you might think you are looking at art. I tried a brownie and my wife had a scone, wow! they were both perfect, fresh and tasty, can't wait to go back. Owners are also very friendly with good service.
Delicious treats, lovely location, and great marketing, and friendly owners. The goodies are definitely priced much higher than what you'd find at your local grocery or even a local coffee shop, but when you can afford to spend the extra dough, I'd definitely recommend this place. Their goodies are delicious. We grabbed a box of treats, and they were almost all gone by the time we got home.
We ordered a Sugared and Spiced cake for our daughter's first birthday, as a treat for mum and dad making it through her first year. Amy and Jeff were so quick and easy to deal with, and the cake was not only beautiful, it was absolutely delicious. Our cohort all commented about how rich, chocolatey and creamy the cake and icing were. We will definitely be making this a family tradition!
Best baked goods in Edmonton, no questions asked. I first tried an assortment of their desserts on a "Streetcar Named Dessert" event they put on (a definite must if they run it again) and everything was amazing, from the beautiful cakes, brownies, tarts and the coconut macaroons! I am a self-proclaimed dessert snob and I am very happy to have a new place to satisfy my sweet tooth!
Probably the greatest sweets I've ever had...mind you, I've only tried 3 tarts, but OMG the most delicious and mouth watering I've EVER had!! Passion fruit tart... This should win all the awards...nearly stabbed my partner with a fork trying to protect my piece! Unreal flavor!! Pumpkin tart... unbelievable! Creams all them pumpkin pies! They are trash in comparison!! I NEED MORE!
Stopped in for coffee and a treat, came out with the perfect gingerbread house kit as well! I also really appreciated the care of the counter staff--- they comp'ed my coffee since there was only 3/4 of a cup left in the machine and I was in a rush; it was still delightful! The selection is decadent and delightful here, and I love the variety. Will definitely be back again soon.
Sugared & Spiced is our favorite bakery in Edmonton! No birthday in our family is complete without one of their beautifully decorated cakes. We have tried multiple different flavours and have always been pleased with the taste. The homemade passionfruit curd on the vanilla passionfruit cake was incredible! You are really missing out if you have not tried one of these cakes!
This neighbourhood shop is one of my favourites. Amazing cookies, coffee, cheese cake and tarts (and much more). Jeff always greets us with a warm welcome and a smile. It's in a vibrant alley adjacent to a cool new city square/plaza with plenty of seating too, perfect for enjoying a coffee and cookie. Always a challenge to not eat too much of what you just bought though!
Everything I have tried from Sugared & Spiced has been excellent. Best cookies EVER! Pre orders are ready on time, and always filled correctly.

We ordered an 50th wedding anniversary cake and our meeting with Amy was great, she showed us photos of her work and made wonderful suggestions. The cake was just what we wanted with our original cake top placed perfectly. The cake was a 10, wonderful and delicious. We have ordered another for a birthday celebration. I would highly recommend Sugared and Spice.
I ordered a strawberry layered cake and when i placed the order i asked for a light cake. The cake (for 12-16 people) was not light, it was dense, and the strawberry flavor was not prominent. The cake also crumbled when we cut it, and the layers fell off one another. I won't be ordering a cake from here again. However, their squares and cookies were amazing.
Excellent little pastry and cake shop. I had bought pumpkin tarts as well as a raspberry chocolate cake. The cake was fantastic and very nicely presented as was the pumpkin tarts. The location is a bit strange being back alley facing which also makes parking close by a bit of a challenge especially when the Strathcona farmers market is open on Saturdays.
Delicious sugar-based food items and a personable atmosphere make for a baked goods experience you'll love to repeat. The team works hard on delivering quality and quantity that satisfy even the most demanding of sweet teeth :). The improved online order system, optional delivery, and in store social distancing measures ensure a safe shopping trip.
Best service ever! Delicious flavours of cakes and beautiful decorations. Everyone I have tried I loved. I buy at least 3 of their cake a year and love them. During the pandemic watching all of the cakes sell out in a few hours was a highlight of my day. So proud to watch a local business adapt and thrive during the new normal. Customer for life.
What can I say? Amazing treats all around. Jeff and Amy do a great job, the location is really cute, and the baked goods are incredible. Great quality, delicious, nice to look at (not just Jeff's beard), and my staff loved the variety of treats I brought them for being nice people one day. Don't hesitate...just go buy stuff there. It's delicious.
We love going to Sugared & Spiced for treats! Everything they bake is delicious and the owners are such lovely people. Our favourites are the cookies, the cheese cakes and the white chocolate raspberry scones (special orders only, so order in bulk!). Great opportunity to support local and eat some of the most delicious treats in the city.
A hidden gem that’s actually hidden as you need to go down the back alley to find it. You won’t regret your decision. I enjoyed the stickiest cinnamon bun I’ve ever had with a great cup of fresh ground coffee. We had 3 kids in tow and they each got something different and loved every bite. I’d be back weekly if I wasn’t from out of town.
Beautiful cakes! I ordered a 4 inch cake for my daughters first birthday online (super easy!). It's the perfect size when the grandparents can't have too much sugar so only the kiddy-cousins, aunt, uncle and mommy can enjoy the goodness inside. They also follow proper COVID-19 procedures - always a plus nowadays! Highly recommend.
Went there to pick up the cake, and left with 4 massive meringues. The cake we got was lemon raspberry, and it was delish. Would totally go back and pick up some treats. It is in a back alley, and is a bit harder to get to if you don’t know the area, it’s directly across the street from the old strathcona market. Great place!
I ordered a cake from them and it was simply “AWESOME”. From the presentation to the taste everything will make your experience a memorable one. In addition to that, I got lemon tarts and brownies too. Again “FANTASTIC”. Thankyou team for making our special day a more special one !! Definitely a place not to be missed ….
What a fantastic location! Revitalizing the alleys off Whyte Ave and doing it with style. This is the most lovely bakery. Aesthetically beautiful with the best aroma! Staff are very friendly. I went there with coworkers today and we were all very pleased with our selections. I had the brownie and it was very delicious!!
My FAVOURITE spot in the city to get something special to celebrate. The cakes are incredible, and it is always a delight to go in to the shop and see what's available in the case for a treat. My preschooler and I love to pop in for a cookie, and then walk around and look at the murals in this sweet neighbourhood.
Really enjoy the baked goods from this shop. Lots of variety. Get there early in the day to make sure you get what you want! The brownies are to die for. The cakes and tarts are excellent as well. They do custom cakes that are competitive but maybe on the more expensive side. The staff are super friendly as well.
FROM ONTARIO, my husband and I placed a To Be Delivered order for our son's birthday, in Edmonton. Working with Amy & Jeff was a TERRIFIC Experience He's received, tasted & LOVES Sugared & Spiced Baking Creations!! THANK YOU AMY & JEFF For Paying Attention To The SMALLEST Of Details⭐️ …

I've purchased several cakes and baked goods (love their cookies especially) from Sugared & Spiced in the past couple years. Always delicious! Prepared fresh with excellent ingredients. They not only taste great but they are beautiful too! Customer service is always top notch as well! I'm never disappointed!
The best brownies!!! The best meringues!! Cheese cakes are my husband's favorite. And by far the best most delish cakes with my most creamy whipped buttercream there is in the city. So much love and care put into these treats. Five stars. These people have inspired my daughter to be a baker. We are smitten.
Try this bakery if you haven’t already become addicted!! Absolutely fabulous bakery for all kinds of sweets. Cookies are chewy, brownies are fudgy, and the peanut butter marshmallow squares are to die for. Owners always smiling and helpful with super easy online ordering and lots of parking out front!
The best bakery I've been to in Edmonton. Every item is so well balanced and rich. I normally hate meringues but theirs changed my mind and I've been dreaming of the fuzzy peach one since I had it the first time. If you're looking for sweets look no further and run over to Sugared & Spiced today!
I've purchased brownies, meringues, cookies and cakes from Sugared and Spiced and they are all so decadent, delicious and made beautifully. I love their vanilla birthday cake with macarons and rainbow sprinkles. I always get that for birthdays. It is on the pricey side but it is totally worth it!
I’ve been here a handful of times now and every time it has been pretty good! The staff are helpful and friendly and most of all the quality of the baking is great. The next time you’re looking for a cake or even just a snack, you definitely need to check this place out! You won’t be disappointed
This is my favourite place to get cakes for special occasions. Their cakes are always so tasty and soft- not to mention stunning! They’re the talking point of every event we have brought them to. The owners are also such lovely people whenever we talk to them and are always so accommodating!
Stopped by today and got the s'more. Let me tell you, this was incredibly delightful! Definitely the best smores I've ever had! Got it for my fiancé but had to try it lol Heads up, it is messy but it's totally worth every bite! I love coming here for their goodies and how friendly they are!
The cutest, best bakery in the city. I love the take and bake options so my home is filled with fresh cookie smells with none of my labour and the cookies are guaranteed to be perfect. You can't go wrong with any of the choices here. And the location just adds to how special this place is.
Every time I purchase anything from Sugared & Spiced, my expectations are blow out of the water. They have become my go to bakery for any celebration. If you haven't tried any of their baked goods (cakes, scones, brownies, squares, tarts...everything is exceptional) you're missing out!
Wonderful small family business with AMAZING baking. 10/10 recommend

I had the No Nonsense Coffee and it was a perfect black coffee. The location is superb since it is located on a nice pedestrian plaza instead of a giant parking lot or a stroad. Bike access is great.

Delicious baked goods! They also have a very cool cake program in which you provide 3 dates you want them to make cakes for so you don't have to remember! They contact you in advance to the date to ask you how you want the cake to look and there are a bunch of different options.
What a yummy place to visit. Clean and very thoughtfully presented, the delectable treats here are veerrry tasty. My gingersnap cookie was perfection. Need a cake, tarts or little treat? Look no further. Plus the murals across the lane make it a great place to take your kids!
Sugared and Spiced cakes are next level. Celebrated my birthday and our anniversary with their amazing cakes. All I can say is they are fresh, great flavour, moist, and the icing is amazing!! Love love love! Their decorations are beautiful, they taste as good as they look!
I have purchased a couple of birthday cakes from here. It’s convenient that they provide a few birthday cakes daily. And doesnt have to be a special order. My purchases were special ordered … They turned put absolutely beautiful . Great customer service as well. Thank you
Always the best to pick up for sweet cravings! Always order more than I should but am never disappointed. The cheesecakes and meringues are a personal favourite. Reasonable price point comparatively, definitely worth checking out, great company to give your business to :)
Have ordered a few custom cakes from here over the past year, it has been stellar every single time. The cakes are beautiful and taste great! Have also tried their baked goods, they are delicious as well! Can be a little hard to find the first time, its a little hidden!
I literally dream about their cookies and brownies. So fresh. They even have a cake club. Love their shop, cant wait to see the overhead door open in the summer. The owners are very friendly and are strong advocates for the back alley project. Love what they're doing !
Don’t think it’s worth it for this small cake as it didn’t have much cake mostly cream, also we didn’t realize we have to let cake sit out before eating it, so it was dry n crumbling, will not be getting this again. Prefer cakes from art of cake or garden bakery
Best s’mores bars in the universe! Frankly, everything is delicious at Sugared & Spiced and we always have a difficult time deciding on what to get. To top it off, the owners are the nicest humans. (Pictured is their peanut butter chocolate picnic cake. Yummy!)
I think the shop is pretty, the owners are kind warm souls, and their delicious cake is the only cake my non-cake eating friends like. I also think their savoury pies are delicious because the crust is so good. I hope you find your way to this delightful shop.
They always have such tasty treats! Their mini cheesecakes never disappoint. In addition to their individual treats, I have ordered a birthday cake which was just so beautiful. The people are always so friendly as well which makes me want to keep coming back.
Great service!! I called looking for a same-day delivery for a birthday cake and Sugared & Spiced were SO helpful and accommodating. My husband got his cake and people are still talking about what a hit it was a month later. I'll be back again for sure.
Absolutely delicious treats, cakes, etc. and love the switch up in flavors each month. Small business where they are extremely friendly and care about the products they put out. Have come here a few times and am never disappointed by what they provide.
A unique bakery between Whyte Ave and 83 Ave - just follow maps! There’s even a couple of parking spots right out front The lemon bars are SO good and get the cookies - so much more than a chocolate chip cookie! Check their hours and menu on Twitter.
Top notch little bakery here. Everything I've had has been fantastic, and flavours are perfect. You can tell everything is made with real quality ingredients and with real quality love. Do the pumpkin cookies. And I haven't even tried the cakes yet.
Exceptional quality cheesecake and outstanding service. We placed a large order for an event and didn't realize they were closed when we went to pick up the order. The owners waited in the parking lot in case we showed up late. They saved the day!
Our favourite bakery. The no-nonsense coffee is a no brainer for a bevie while you farmers market or stroll the ave. Once you try the premium baked goods, I'd suggest getting a cake club subscription to take the edge off your regular orders.
I’m Sugared & Spiced’s biggest fan. They have the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Their brownies are amazing, too. Best of all, it’s run by the best family! If you’re about supporting local and eating delicious baked goods, hit them up!
My fave place for my last two birthday cakes. Off such grand occasions, they are good for tea cakes and obscenely huge meringues. I do not visit often but when I do, my belt hates me. Yet, my eyes love me as the cakes are wonders to behold.
We ordered the Mother's Day Pavlova. Honestly one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Finished off a lovely day in the perfect way. Thank you so much for being open during these trying times, and making life a lot more flavourful!
Very fresh baked goods, got a box and decided to sit down to enjoy the space. Owners are super friendly!

This bakery is now my go-to for our birthday cakes. We’ve only ever ordered the cookies and cream but I definitely have to try the passionfruit one. Please remember, you always get what you pay for and these cakes are worth the price.
First of all, they sell peanut butter squares which automatically ranks them high on my list. Their customer service, cakes, cookies, tarts, etc are all absolutely to die for. Besides my PB squares it's impossible to pick a favourite.
I try and pop by as often as I can. Jeff and Amy are always so welcoming and helpful. Have ordered two cakes, and countless treats from Sugared and Spiced, and I've never been disappointed. They're my go-to for indulgent baked goods!
We loved the 4inch cake that we got for our cake smash! Custom ordering online was so simple and having to just pick it up was awesome. They were also super nice at the store. We will be finding other reasons to buy more from them.
