Flew from Winnipeg to Orlando January 2018 with a group booking of 11 people to go on a cruise with family. Had the most horrible experience with Sunwing. There was rude staff on ground, will measure your carry on to the tenth of a kilogram and try to charge you for check in. First of all, we had my daughters stroller that we tried to check in, and my boyfriend asked if we needed tags. She said no what I gave you is all you need so we go to the oversized baggage drop off and they tell us that we need the tags! My boyfriend goes back to the lady and she got mad saying "no I told you that is all you need!!". We changed our minds about putting the stroller with the oversized baggage and just headed to board the plane and they told us we definitely needed one. They saw the frustrated looks on our faces and got tags for us. Second, they gave my grandmother the wrong boarding pass! Third, they all sat us in separate seats even though It was a group booking. They even sat my 2 year old daughter by herself!!! that I made sure they had changed, so they ended up seating us in the very back of the plane beside the washroom. Sunwing will try to ding you for any extras they can land their hands on!! When I asked them why we were not seated together they told me that there was no more seats together left on the plane and that we needed to pay extra to have "elite" tickets which is bs because there were 9 empty seats on the plane that no one sat in! Fourth, they lost my aunts luggage which had all her medication, clothes, toiletries, etc. for the cruise we were about to go on. So many things went wrong before our vacation even began! The price is not worth the hurdles and stress this airline puts you through. I do not recommend flying Sunwing at all if I could give it zero stars I would've. I would rather support an airline that’s more expensive but takes measures to accommodate the comfort and satisfaction of the traveler.
It took 3 tries to get our vacation to Mexico booked. The first booking Sunwing changed the flights to the point it would not work for us because we wouldn't get home in time for work the next day and we had to cancel (they refunded all but $250/each which has a time limit to using the credit which I think is wrong). We re-booked but the second booking Sunwing cancelled due to "unrest" in the area. The third booking was done under pressure so did not research the resort as well as we would have liked. Flight there was on-time. Transfer to the hotel was fine other than the van broke down once. Our return flight was delayed 12 hours. We heard 2 or 3 different reasons for the delay. For us the delay was ok because we didn't want to fly during the night anyway and it was the weekend so we had a couple days to get home before we had to return to work. Just had a couple of hours of panic till they put us up at the same hotel we were staying for an extra night at their expense. In the morning we were supposed to get picked up by Sunwing at 7:30 am. At 8:30 am no van had arrived yet despite the Sunwing rep being there and trying to secure a ride for us. There were another couple people waiting for the same ride. At 8:30 we finally decided to share a cab to the airport rather than waiting and risking problems getting through airport security. We had a great vacation but feel we can't depend on Sunwing so unsure we will even use the "credit" they kept for us to use. It's not worth the risk.
My Fiancé and I booked a great trip through SunWing Vacations that was roughly $3,500 months before COVID and even bought the insurance. A week before we were going on our trip our government made it mandatory to isolate for 2 weeks once we arrive back and were not guaranteeing that we would even have a flight home so we cancelled (using the insurance that we bought). We were then told that we would not be getting our money back but would be getting a travel voucher (same as everyone even if they did NOT buy the insurance). I have called SunWing numerous times just to be told "sorry this is how we do it" or "Dont worry your voucher is good for 2 years". We are in a pandemic and SunWing is not even flying out of my province this year which means I only have 1 year left to use the voucher. 1st off what was the insurance for as it was the exact same as everyone else. 2nd can you not at least make the vouchers not expire as I paid a lot of money for this trip. Its not a $50 dollar gift card this is $3,500 dollars that was saved up to go on our first vacation together and you guys have ruined this. I would expect in these times a voucher that cannot expire or our money back. I work at the airport and will not be recommending this airline to anyone as they clearly have no remorse or compassion for people and are all about the profits. Shame on this company.
Well...we are still dealing with covid which Sunwing seems to forget is a global pandemic. I would have loved to go on my trip almost a year ago now that was canceled due this pandemic. A refund was requested from sunwing since it has now been a year and we are still faced with uncertainty. Their response on the rare occasion you actually get through, is some rehearsed condescending script. Overall, they are saying they will not provide refund and Covid is always the excuse but, you need to use your credit by a certain date despite us still dealing with Covid. Now Sunwing is getting a 375 million dollar bailout. I really hope with this bailout comes refunds. Because the manner in which this company has conducted themselves through this global hardship, has been daunting for a company of its magnitude. Definitely states volumes.
Had a trip planned with Sunwing to Cuba in March right as everything went sideways and had to cancel due to Covid. Bought the insurance and have not gotten any information other than "Here is a travel voucher that is only good for 2 years and dissapears if you don't use it". Are you kidding me? Travel restrictions are still in place a year later and I do not see this clearing up fully in that time frame. Sunwing has even pulled out of Manitoba so we could not plan a trip even if we wanted to or could. This is robbery. If this doesn't change (either full refunds or make the vouchers never expire at the very least!) be prepared for a negative rating for life and some very bad reviews, contacted Sunwing who basically said too bad you have 2 years to use it. At this point I'd like to give minus infinite stars.
They did good. Booked a week long vacation to Puerto Plata in Feb 2023. No complaints. Price was right, even if it dropped a bit, I'm sorry but you gotta expect that to happen, they are a business. Resort was as described, quite nice, flights were good, great job flying, flight attendants were great, again zero complaints. The local sunwing rep gave us our resort details and pickup details and transportation was all arranged without issues. You gotta expect to have some issues. And we did using the sunwing app to book excursions. We booked one and ran into two days of getting it sorted out but again rep helped out. The app is nice to keep up to date on flights and delays etc as well as to check in for your flight beforehand. Overall very happy, and would do another trip with sunwing.
Extremely disappointed with Sunwing. The rep at the resort showed up once 5 days into our trip. He was suppose.to be there the day before we left to provide us with our pick up time no show. We called him and text him he didn't get back to us. Once we arrived at the airport we stood in line for 11/2 hours to check in for our flight just to be told it was delayed for 3 hours. 30 minutes later another passenger told me it was delayed until midnight 7 hours late. They offered us nothing. I know delays happen but Airlines do actually have a certain standard that they are supposed to withhold. Sunwing failed miserably this trip. So extremely disappointed Sunwing
My husband & I were to travel from Winnipeg to Ixtapa on Feb.16, 2020. Due to a very sudden cancer diagnosis for myself on Feb.7 & surgery on Feb.14, we had to cancel our vacation. We did not purchase cancellation insurance back in November as we were both very healthy. We contacted Sunwing to request a credit (not refund) based on a medical issue but Sunwing refused to help us in any way. I am appauled by their lack of empathy & horrible customer service. I did not want this diagnosis but expected some form of sympathy for my situation but received none. Is this what business has become?
Ok I know things happen and I am okay with that but not just this time which was an 8 hour delay because of another Sunwing plane in need of repair but every time I have traveled with this airline its being late. Now money is tight but how about a little more room with the seats and a place to plug your phone in. The topper for me was at the near end of this trip with a request that comes over the PA for tips ? A good business plan has always being good customer service if you want returning customers. Stop squeezing pennies out of us Sunwing..
I just wanted to say my husband and I have been flying with Sunwing vacations for years and never had any problems and I heard if there is a problem they are quite to rectify it. One time in Mexico our flight was delayed because of a storm back home, we had extra time in the sun and they gave us vouchers toward our next trip how wounerful was that and we weren’t expecting anything because it was not even there fault. GREAT COMPANY! We are flying with them agin this year. Thanks Sunwing for all the wonderful vacations!
I have purchased several vacation packages from Sunwing. I purchased one for this coming December, and the price has dropped already by $800 before I went on the trip. They do not offer compensation, and said that I should have bought their $400 price drop insurance. Their business model of making me buy insurance for them to drop the price is absurd. So they want me to spend an extra $400 just to risk the price dropping, and if it doesnt, im out $400. Its just so dumb.
Just returned from Cuba a few days ago. We purchased the VIP lounge package for the return flight home as the Sunwing rep told us it was a worth it. We had heard from other travelers that it was $20 each person. The sunwing rep at the hotel said it was $30 per person. We didn't argue as we assumed it may have gone up in price. When we got to the airport and had settled in, we found out it was $20 per person! Very upset with how Sunwing treats their customers.
Sunwing scheduled 4 flights at the same time from Punta Cana. The lines to drop bags and check in were insane. We waited 30 minutes in a line for people with kids and disabilities, but people were waiting 1.5 hours!! Then they made everyone board and said they don’t have permit to fly yet so we had to wait 1 more hour on the plane. Plus our trip back was 6 hours instead of 5 for some reason. Terrible experience
Online check in is joke. Digital vaccine QR code can't be read. Or PDF or any other file type of actual card even. It is literally just a pretend page so they can have Canada flights. Customer service solution? "try again later sir." Yeah that is a PERFECT solution for international flights. I will just HOPE it works over the next 18 hours or so. Terrible
Very squishy planes. No individual tvs... which seems a bit silly considering that you're typically using them to travel several hours. Delays seem quite normal with them. First class... dont bother, it's a joke. The flight attendants are super though!
absolutely horrible. Told us at 2am our flight was delayed 2 days. Left us on hold for 2 hours and the lady on the phone just kept saying “I don’t know”. Would not recommend booking with them
Worst service ever from sunwing. From rep at hotel to being left to sit atbthe airport for 7 hours. No food. Or water offered. We were mot told after standing in line to check in
I hear all the stories, but I've traveled on Sunwing 5 or 6 times and never had an issue. It's always been a good time at an unbeatable price.
Terrible customer service, I asked for a glass of water and got a water from the tap...
Sunwing suck if I could give them a o I would don’t use them
WORST travel agency.
