I would like to start by acknowledging the tremendous work that the midwives and nurses do at the Hospital. Their dedication to patient care is exceptional and we could not fault their service. Overall our experience at the hospital was marred by an Obstetrician who failed to administer adequate patient care. Post delivery, we transitioned to a new Obstetrician due to the subpar care provided by the previous one. The hospital completed a risk assessment on this Obstetrician and advised they would undertake a structured investigation. Unfortunately, the investigation left us extremely underwhelmed, raising serious questions about investigation standards A number of critical points in our submission were not investigated. The dismissal of critical allegations solely based on the Obstetrician's responsibility for clinical management whilst at the hospital is concerning and highlights a lack of risk management appreciation for hospital exposure. Our experience with the Obstetrician involved a number of incidents from inappropriate footwear in the delivery room to a lack of aftercare post delivery. Dissolvable stitching around the vaginal region gave way creating pain, distress and continuous bleeding. We were required to give consent to a nurse to use the Ward's phone to take footage of the vaginal region in an attempt to coerce the Obstetrician to visit my wife in hospital and administer patient care. The Obstetrician even went on vacation without notifying us and failed to chart medication which our new Obstetrician had to manage, and more. This was an incredibly traumatic experience. The response from the hospital lacks clarity on disciplinary actions taken against the Obstetrician. The hospital has also refused to share with us the investigation report summarising findings, root cause analysis, risk assessments and actions against the Obstetrician. This is concerning to say the least as we have every right to request a copy of this report as it directly pertains to our experience and submission. The disappointing outcome of this investigation not only leaves us disheartened but also takes away from the real heroes - our new Obstetrician, midwives and nurses who consistently went above and beyond to administer care. We hope that the hospital takes these concerns seriously and takes concrete steps to ensure that patient care remains a top priority, as it should be. Patient care should be treated with genuine seriousness and not merely reduced to a couple of words listed in frameworks or key documents to create an illusion of being a core value. In summary, we have mixed feelings about our experience at the hospital, with immense gratitude for the real heroes (new Obstetrician, midwives and nurses), but a profound disappointment with the handling of our case involving the Obstetrician. The investigation appears to have overlooked key witnesses fostering a disconnect between the acceptable standards for patient care as perceived by the investigation team versus frontline staff. The pursuit of justice will persist until a satisfactory resolution is attained.
I was so disappointed with my 2 day stay at The San. I was left for 5 hrs in pre-op with no info on when I would go in for surgery. When I arrived in my room post op, I was parked no where near my bag which was hard to get to after bilateral hernia repair. I vomited on the floor due to the oxycodone while trying to get to the toilet. It was left on the floor, with nothing to cover it but a towel, til I left at noon the following day when I checked out. The night nurse was very brisk and did the bare minimum when I asked him to help me to the toilet. The food was awful. I couldn’t wait to get home. My surgeon and the anaesthetist were great but the stay was terrible. It’s a beautiful hospital but the staffing issues ensure I will never go there again. HCF is being charged $3716 for that which also makes me angry. Regards, Karen L Dwyer Edit: 13/05/22 - The San has since replied to my detailed email. They investigated my concerns and had discussions with the appropriate nurse unit managers. I am satisfied that my issues were addressed and that their procedures have been adequately reviewed. I’ve also been informed that the nurses I mentioned in my email have been alerted to my concerns. KLDwyer
The Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga operates as a private healthcare facility. It offers an experience akin to a luxurious hotel, albeit with a bit more discomfort, given the nature of medical procedures ;) I recently had the privilege of staying at the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga for a hernia operation. I can't express enough how impressed I am with the entire experience. From the moment I walked through the doors to the moment I left, the level of care and compassion I received was excellent. All the staff I had went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and cared for. No question was too small, and they took the time to explain everything to me in a way I could understand. The cleanliness and organization of the hospital is top-notch. The technology and equipment at SAN is cutting-edge. The cozy and private rooms were relaxing, and the nutritious and delicious meals were above the norm. They honestly thought of everything to make my stay as pleasant as possible. In conclusion, my experience at the SAN was excellent. They turned what could have been a challenging time into a positive and reassuring experience. I recommend this hospital and give them five stars.
Undergoing a major surgery is never going to be a luxury escape, but I tell you what the SAN “Resort” – as I call it – is the medical equivalent of fine dining and first class service. My initial surgical break was scheduled for 8 days but the care I received on Level 9 of the Clark building had me home in 5! The nursing staff were far better than any Michelin rated maitre de. From pre-admission to discharge the nursing and support staff were attentive, clear headed and on top of their game. It was a busy ward too, especially at night with only 1 nurse for 10 patients (Yeah, management need to look into that), my medication, observations, and general care was undertaken with good grace and on time. I’m not embarrassed to say things got a little messy right after surgery, but they were on it without complaint. The Physio and Pain Teams were on point! When I got around to being able to eat, the food was good. My family also said the staff at the cafés were exceptionally nice too. So, resort style service all round! Shout out to nurses Dave, Michaela, Alex, Kate, Florence, Murna, Katie and Allyssa – as well as anyone I might have missed. Level 9 Clark Wing rock.
Would NOT recommend this hospital to any pregnant ladies due to the poor attitude and service of some maternity ward nurses and midwives. As a first-time mum who just experienced a c-section and was struggling with producing breastmilk, I was rudely forced to breastfeed my baby by a few staff even after we made the decision to wait and observe how my body would react. My partner felt verbally ashamed by a couple of nursery staff when they found out that we could not provide breastmilk for the night-time feed. These awful experiences literally made me bursted into tears for multiple times without stopping on day 3… We do understand the benefits of breastfeeding and have been trying a variety of ways of transitioning into this new stage but unfortunately did not receive enough respect or support from these people. The whole trip has turned into a nightmare and even caused me panic attack when I thought about it. Shout out to Shauna and Michelle who showed genuine understanding and shared their warmest love and care during the worst time of my life. And thanks so much to Dr.Chang for ensuring that my surgery was a success.
doctors delivered wrong information and not take correct assessment on the patient. if they told us in time 21 days ago that they don't have any solution, we could try to seek for second opinion early and don't need to be stucked in the hospital. and all the doctors refused to try assess whether the patient could eat, until 7days later we asked the nurse to try to feed the patient some puree, and successed. however, the patient still had no treatment since the first day has been sent to hospital from emergency. doctors told us we could only watch the patient to die. however this problem was caused by them. they wasted us important 21days, and now they just want the patient to die quickly or leave hospital with against medical advice. they just want to force our family to make dicision with these 2 options. and block all our ways to seek for hope.they just want to tolerent the patient and family. maybe they think control other's life is very funny and enjoyed. i really feel it is racist just like some nurses here. it is very serious matter and we want to share to all other people who will see this review.
Buyer Beware! In preparation for surgery, initially San couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me how much the pathology and ECG would leave me out of pocket. (In the end I cancelled the surgery, as there were too many unanswered questions, sought a second and third opinion, both these agreed the surgery was not medically necessary as there are other treatment options that should have been tried first.) So my warning to all is be aware of ALL hospital on-costs that are not covered by either your health fund nor Medicare. It is quite a mine-field to navigate! If you don't know, make it your business to find out. At the end of the day, it is your body and your life they are messing with. I actually found the staff at the SAN admissions quite dismissive of my concerns. Keep asking until you receive an answer. I had to ask FOUR times and only got an answer after an escalation to management. It would have been so much easier and less stressful for everyone if they were forthcoming with the information they already had at their finger-tips.
Wow - what a place! I have heard first-hand how amazing the SAN Maternity unit is but I did not fully understand until I had my own experience during my birth as a FTM. The midwives and doctors are incredibly caring and empathetic. They take the time to explain things to you, to give you choice and control but also to provide you with true care. Nothing was ever too much and I found that they always came to me before I needed to come to them for anything. Special shout out to my OB Dr Sarah Greenwood and the amazing midwives my husband and I had the pleasure of dealing with - Holly, Sarah, Lara, Amelia, Steph, Jo, Sue and the ladies at Special Care Karen, Felicity, Vivian, as well as Dr Chaitow our paeditrician. I am sure there are many other names I have missed and I apologise for that! Thank you to the entire team for making me and my husband feel comfortable, supported and in safe hands during the birth of my daughter and during recovery. I am truly grateful.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here at the San. We went to 4 different emergencies before we came here and there was around a 6 hour wait at each one that just palmed us off to other hospitals because their trauma list was so long. There were 39 patients on the waiting list in front of us at Gosford hospital but they said to come here as there would be a shorter que time and not as busy. The moment we arrived we could clearly tell the difference between the other hospitals to the San. We walked straight into emergency and there wasn't a single other person in the waiting room and we got seen straight away. From this point on all services were almost immediate and from walking into emergency at around 8:00am, we were then given a time of surgery at around 12:00 noon. The staff were very caring and supportive and overall the best hospital I have ever visited. Thanks again, Leslie (LJ)
On 11th of April 2018 we had our second son born in this hospital. Our experience have been A grade accross the board except for a minor problem which I'll mention but this does not deminishes our experience so 5 Stars well earned. Thank you everyone particulary Dr Andrew Booker for his ultra professional approach. And for the minor problem; My wife was yelled at repeatedly by one of the midwifes 2AM at night for not knowing stuff which she should not know naturally after she did not have sleep for over 50 hours straight so much that she burst in tears and had to stay up even longer hours because she could not trust our new born with that nasty lady. I honestly think people like that midwife don't belog in such a faboulous stablishment so I'm hoping she gets fired before she can further affect the repulation and hard work of all others. Thank you for everything SAN.
Absolute gold this hospital. The key differentiator is the people. The nursing staff is extremely caring. Huge shout out to Talia, Chris, Allison who went above & beyond in helping us. They demonstrated such strong work ethic, that I really appreciate. There were some more staff members who’s names I have forgotten. The birthing unit staff is absolutely wonderful. They are available for advice even after discharge. The premises are super clean & extremely considerate. Massive thanks also to Chris, the lactation consultant. Also, the staff at SAN ultrasound for Women are wonderful. Lastly, I was extremely pleased with the delicious vegetarian food served at SAN Cafe. Not to forget the courteous & hard working staff. So glad we chose this hospital. Highly highly recommend. Massive gratitude.
I had an exceptional experience having my first baby here. Having been a “San baby” myself, it was wonderful to return to have my own baby. I had a planned caesarean, which all went incredibly smoothly from start to finish. We loved our midwives (though be prepared to have many of them pass through during a 5 night stay!). The night nursery was a godsend for us, which we utilised on the last night to ensure we left the hospital with a decent sleep under our belt. The only “negative” to mention is the daybed for partners to stay overnight on is not designed for those of above-average height. My husband is broad and 6’5” and really struggled. Regardless, we’d definitely return for any future babies. Hopefully by then they have bigger daybeds!
I went there for day surgery. I was looking forward to after the surgery being able to have maybe a sandwich or some toast and a cup of tea. ☕All I received was two jatz biscuits and a bottle of water. Really!!!! They charge enough to give you a 4 course meal. I recently had to get booked into a hosptial again. The doctor suggested the San, I said "not in a pink fit". If you are going to this hospital, remember to take a packed lunch. This is not an isolated incident my 16yr son had surgery there and he was given a small vegemite sandwich for dinner, that was it. I hate having to review so badly but I hate when greed replaces patient comfort.
Illegal discrimination against legal doctors mask exemptions. Both my husband and I have legal doctors exemptions for valid health conditions and doctors reports to suport the exemption yet they refused to let me and my 2.5 year old son enter. The Emergency person wouldn't even look at the documents. They let my husband in to pick up forms and me and my son stay out in the cold freezing. Then my husband has to wait outside in the cold and in pain to be seen as wont let him inside. Disgusting! First time we came here. Extremely cruell and inhumane treatment! We decided my son and I to leave as he will get sick.
The staff were very professional and efficient from the moment we arrived to discharge. The hospital is well appointed and well maintained. It feels luxurious compared to public hospitals but obviously the costs are higher. I love the spaciousness of the waiting areas and the greenery surrounding the hospital. I spent a lovely morning watching some kookaburras and cockatoos feeding and playing.while waiting. It's located in an affluent suburb and it's accessible via car or buses. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Emergency Department service is absolutely bad. The man wearing a headscarf in the front desk in emergency department is very bad. Most of the nurses both in emergency and hospital section does not have a good service attitude either, the most important thing is that the doctors lack of knowledges, all they can say is I guess..., I think..., you can discharge and go home to see your GP... wasting a lot money and time there without knowing the causes, So disappointed. Not worth paying to go here at all.
Absolutely wonderful. I just had my second baby at The SAN, and have been blown away by how amazing and attentive the staff are. My first was at another hospital, so I do have something to compare to; and I would choose The SAN any day of the week. They are organised, the rooms are lovely, but it's the staff that really stand out. Kind, caring and friendly... I didn't come across a single staff member who wasn't wonderful. Thank you for making our experience such a good one!
We just had our baby at the SAN and the whole experience was amazing. Nice room with a view, great facilities. The hospital staff is the highlight, we had many different staff/nurses/midwives throughout our stay but everyone was absolutely lovely, so caring, attentive and professional. The night nursery was a bonus, so we could catch up on some sleep. Surprisingly the food was really tasty, we could choose from daily menu. We didnt feel like we stayed in a hospital at all.
i unfortunately had a kidney infection and appendicitis within 6 months of eachother and spent a weekend in the hospital for both. the staff were so incredibly lovely, even when i was sick and vomiting in the middle of the night. they were so caring and accommodating. when i was going in for surgery, i was in a lot of pain from appendicitis, but all of the doctors around me made me feel much more comfortable and secure before and after surgery. love this place.
Exceptional, outstanding care at every level. I can’t express my gratitude to emergency staff, doctors, specialists, wards persons and nursing staff for looking after me and/or my husband at our time of urgent need. It is obvious that they are all happy working there and that the management are looking after their teams. Bravo everyone. And I am so thrilled that my health cover are back in a relationship with this outstanding hospital. As it should be.
I would like to share my feedback on my admission to Sydney Adventist Hospital on February 20, 2023. I had a successful procedure performed by Dr. Juliana Kanawati and George Zhong, and the nurses, Loon, Rain, and Sarah, were all friendly and helpful. The food server, Mary, was very accommodating, and the admission department made the entire process, including discharge, convenient and easy. Overall, I had a great experience at the hospital.
Had a lovely experience in the Emergency Department here at Sydney Adventist Hospital. Came in super stressed and anxious about my father at 5 AM but they were so sweet and accommodating. They immediately took us in, we hardly waited 5-10 minutes. Our receptionist was kind enough to offer us tea and coffee while we waited and my father and mother had an excellent experience with Dr. Aiman. 10/10 service 10/10 speed 10/10 cleanliness
Emergency is super bad … if you have to go emergencies please go to public hospital, much quicker than this private hospital , we are waiting for 4 hours still not anyone to see us . … ask reception, the answer is : we are super busy , i can’t tell you how long you will to wait …. Perfect… nice answer….if we are not hurry up to see the doctor we won’t come to emergency….. next time I will save money go to public, much better
My 99 year old , war veteran dad had a good stay in hospital last week. The staff and Dr Illes were kind to him and did their very best for him. They let us stay with him much of the time, which was good because he is legally blind. Christine, a nurse from Coronary Care, chased us out twice as we left, with our phone charger and then the cardiac monitor box we had left behind in the room. That was very good of her.
I had a very good experience at the Sydney Adventist Hospital for a routine procedure. The medical staff were excellent and nurses were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I ended up having to stay the night unexpectedly and had very good care. I want to single out nurses Ethan on level 12, Ping (in recovery) and Helen in the day surgery centre for special praise. Thank you for your professionalism and kindness.
Thank you for your help delivering my two kids. Although they are 30 and 27 years old respectively now, it's never too late for a review. You were the Hilton Hotel of hospitals back in the 90's and you have managed to not only maintain standards, but build on your success. I had knee surgery there a couple of times over the past 6 years and was impressed with your new facilities. Continued success for the future.
Very well designed, clean and best hospital in Sydney to have a baby or surgery. Doctors, nurses and staff all are attentive, caring and professional. Food quality top notch - very tasty, not like other hospital blend food. Very modern, well equipped facilities. There is a pharmacy, book store, florist, hair dresser, aquarium and different places to eat. Parking always full, but you can park outside.
I've been a patient here for two weeks, have had many tests and am having surgery shortly. I am on the neuro ward level 8 and can honestly highly recommend this hospital to anyone, I'd like to thank all the nurses involved in my care, I really appreciate how polite/friendly/caring/sweet & how all the nurses are so professional & show a genuine care for their work.& work as a team. The food is really good
My wife and I we're very happy with the hospital as it was our first time and experience at the hospital and facility. It was very clean, happy to abide the covid rules as safety was one of our concerns. The staff, nurses, midwives, doctors and administration staff presented great service and had the best interest of my wife giving birth c-section and allowing us to have a beautiful baby girl.
It is no exaggeration to say the early parenting centre at this place changed our lives. We had a wonderful experience at the Early Parenting Centre at Figtree Private late last year. Special shoutout to the fantastic Mel who was outstandingly caring, supportive and knowledgeable - the support here changed our daughter's sleep habits and therefore changed our lives (no joke!).
I would like to thank the Maternity and Women’s Health Ward for looking after me once I came out of surgery. The staff were absolutely amazing and I felt like they genuinely cared about me and were on top of everything to ensure that I recovered well. I will definitely be choosing the Sans Adventist Hospital for any future hospital stays. Thank you again
May look neat and modern, but God help you if you are new to the hospital and need parking instructions. Buildings are not clearly marked and getting proper instructions on the phone is at best confusing. Having said that, went to Radiology for CT scan, where staff were very professional. Locks on toilets and change rooms need servicing.
I had my 2 years of age daughter tonight here at emergency dep, with 4 episodes of vomiting and 3 episodes of vomiting here at the hospital. Staff even didn’t care about that. People arrived after my daughter with mild symptoms or even same condition been admitted before her. Horrible experience at Sydney Adventist Hospital Wahroonga.
The worst hospital experience we've ever had. Please choose another hospital to go to if you can. The most stingy hospital as well. They do anything to cut cost. Staff halved the patient's medication on the side table in front of my eyes! I have so many other examples as well. Never have I ever seen this low quality care.
Epitome of care and compassion! We had our baby at the SAN just recently. Their care is second to none. The midwives and all other staff are just fantastic. They know what they’re doing and make every effort to make you feel comfortable. We absolutely loved every bit of it. Highly recommended.
For a first time mum, the kindness and care from all staff really touched my heart. The birthing unit and maternity ward nurses and midwives were absolutely amazing, knowledgeable and supportive. Wide variety when it came to food selection. Ample parking. What can I say? The list goes on.
I am a doctor myself and underwent operation today. The doctors and nurses were so professional both in theatre and level 11 clark tower. Night nurse susan was brilliant. Makes you feel calm which is a big part of the hospital journey. Thank you to dr loder, and all staff
I had both my daughters at the SAN and want to give a special shout-out to nurse Pam & Lara who were incredible, they were so caring and highly skilled. Nothing was ever too much fuss and they made you feel so comfortable especially during the overnight stay.
The Sydney Adventist Hospital is absolutely amazing from when I came into emergency yesterday, up to being admitted all the staff are being attentive and fantastic, Five Stars is not enough they deserve more. Thank you so much for all your help. …
Best hospital in NSW hands down. You are looked at holistically, instead of the, 'lets do one issue per admission'. I thank the good Lord for the SANS. The Doctor's don't mind being challenged, and the nurses are compassionate and empathetic. ❤️
Neat and modern buildings, employees provide systematic and polite services. In Australia, visited hospital where the most clear, I think it's also a paid parking spaces, parking lot of very big offers a queen-size and I was pleased.
The place is well equipped and maintained, as you've expected from a private hospital. Our experience from the maternity ward was fantastic and vastly different from the emergency services, which i had reviewed & rated separately.
Absolutely disgusting service. Don't let the other positive reviews cloud your judgement with choosing this hospital. You shouldn't play with your health and they willingly do so with their negligent attendance to patients!!!!
Have had a really positive experience with my TKR under Dr Jun Nagamori and all the staff at The San. Totally excellent care and facilities. Would highly recommend to anyone considering elective surgery at this hospital!
I was very well looked after at this hospital. The midwives went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable. The doctors were so kind and friendly and were very thorough.
Amazing hospital, amazing emergency department, excellent obstetric and midwife team. Their birthing suits and after care is incredible. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.
From my one and only experience at this hospital. Excellent medical professionals, support and administration personnel. Very ordinary food and food service.
Birthing unit & maternity ward is a top notch! All midwifes are highly trained and able to seamlessly help the newborn & mums with their needs.
Thank you, THE SAN, for looking after my wonderful partner. Everything was fantastic, including the coffee from your canteen.
I gave birth here at the SANs under the swaddle program for HCF. The nurses were fantastic. The food was average.
