In April I shopped at the Ireland Road store in South Bend, Indiana, where I used my tax refund to spruce up my summer wardrobe. In a two day period, I spent $209.00. Not a lot, but what as a retiree I am able to budget. The cashier was quite nice, it was actually her first day on the job. When I left the store, the alarm sounded that there was a tag that had not been removed. I went back to the counter where the cashier and her manager preceded to check my purchases. No tags were found, and I was told that perhaps a "hidden" tag was attached to one of the hair ornaments I had purchased. I was told to go ahead and leave the store. When I got home, I checked again, but didn't find any tag. Fast forward to Tuesday, 06 September. I am now living near downtown Indianapolis and had planned to wear my new black linen slacks for the first time. Imagine my surprise, to find a tag on the side seam. I had removed the tags, but had never worn the pants and was not locating my envelope where I keep my receipts. So, I did the next best thing, I pulled my bank statement so I could show that I had shopped TJ Maxx and showed the amount spent. When I walked into the downtown store and the alarm sounded, I made an attempt to tell what had happened previously. The "day manager" proceeded to scold me, telling me that she could not help me. I needed a receipt. When she finished talking down to me, I explained that I did not want a "REFUND". I just wanted to be able to have the tag removed so that I may wear my pants. She raised her voice and told me that she would make an exception "THIS ONE TIME". "That NEVER AGAIN" would this action be taken. The lines to the check-out, as always were busy during the lunch hour. People was all witnessing the "dressing down" I received from Miss Deborah, I believe was her name. After removing the tag, I thanked her and expressed to her calmly, that I did not deserve to be talked to in front of the entire front of the store with such little respect. That perhaps she could use some "customer service" training. I thanked her and as I walked out, she looked at the gentleman and cashiers that had been closet to where I was standing and made a derogatory remark. I stopped, turned around and she threw her arms up and said "I said that". I didn't get the full jest of what she was saying. I just shook my head and turned and left the store not believing the treatment I received. I understand that rules need to be followed. However, when I offered to show her my bank statement, she scoffed at me. Had she not been so defensive and loud and rude to me, perhaps I wouldn't have felt the need to write a "negative" review. It's not what you say, it's how you say it! Target, Wal Mart and even Macy's has "upped" their game when it comes to clothing and housewares. If this is the treatment TJMaxx customers are going to get, maybe it's time to look elsewhere when shopping. Perhaps she was just having a bad day, I get that. However, such behavior when working with the public is very poor customer service, thus the one star review.
I was in Indianapolis with Friends for a Day Trip and after Brunch we did a little running around. Before we left we stopped Dwntwn and went to T.J. Maxx. This was my 1st time being @ this Particular T.J. Maxx. I got a couple of things and Checked Out. They were Closing so we walked to the Car and was on our way and they wanted to get something from Krogers a little bit away from T.J. Maxx. When we got back in the Car to hit the Highway to head Home I realized that I had left my Phone on the Counter @ T.J. Maxx. Being upset with myself for doing that we tried calling but no answer so I proceeded in Driving back Dwntwn to the store. When we got there in was Pitched Black and everyone was gone. So early the next Morning I got up and called T.J. Maxx and when the Lady answered I told her that I was in there last night and left my Phone. She asked Me what Color it was and I told her Black and she said we have it. I told her that I was from out of town and didn't live there so she said they would put it in Lock-Up and hold it for Me. They were so Courteous and really made my Day and I Thanked Them for that, because I really wasn't trying to Buy another Phone. Everything worked out just fine and I went Today and picked it up. So Happy, they're some of the most awesome People. "MAY GOD BLESS THEM!!"
Before the pandemic I used to shop the downtown location of TJ Maxx regularly. I always walked out the door with a new shirt, t-shirt, sweater or something for the kitchen. Yesterday I visited this location and was stunned by the severely limited selection of men's clothing. I am not saying that it is slightly more diminished than before. I am saying that it is hugely diminished. When I asked a staff person, she said she thought that it was due to loss prevention considerations and the perception that more product was walking out the door unpaid and stolen than being paid for. OK, I get that. But this means that devoted customers are the ones nolonger having choices . . . in other words, the ones who steal are the winners. I was surprised that TJ Maxx apparently doesn't have a loss prevention strategy outside of closing down sections where theft is prevalent. In any case, I won't be visiting this store again since I am often in the vicinity of the Castleton store, which is always packed with great options. I did a walk through just to see if other sections had been scaled down. It seemed to me that all of the other sections were at their pre-Covid levels. It gets harder and harder to buy men's clothes in downtown Indianapolis. I am sorry to see TJ Maxx contribute to this scarcity.
Asked to try a pair of shorts and a Tee. The shorts have no price tag on it. The guy responsible for that sector was very nice and went out to search the price for me. He asked one of his colleagues to let me in the fitting room. This lady, who’s apparently a “Coordinator” there, was so rude and treated me horribly. She stopped me when I was walking in into the fitting room as I was doing something wrong, basically screaming. Asked to checked the itens again (even after the guy said to her that it was two itens) and with finalised with: make sure you bring the hangers back too afterwards... wft???!! I always shop at TJ Maxx’s in different cities and never experienced this kind of treatment. I got inside the fitting room shocked and decided not even to try the items anymore. I won’t support a business that have this kind of staff in their team. People with this attitude should be not working in retail.
racist manager's and also saw the store manager fighting a minor employee in the backroom. Theft is an issue, and HR and the distracted manager don't handle situations properly. The only thing nice about this place is the stuff. Don't work here if you are a POC; you will get treated unfairly and have the majority of your hours cut out of the blue. You don't have to deal with the stress, especially if you're only making $12 an hour. They hire a lot of people for temporary positions and give them more hours than the actual people who worked there longer. TJ Maxx is the worst company to work for, especially as a young black woman. This is not a safe space.
I was so happy when this store reopened. But every time I go back, the men’s section is smaller and smaller. Today I had to wait my turn just to look at the T-shirts because there were so few T-shirts that they only took up like one part of one rack. I’m honestly annoyed that I even paid to park to go there. And I don’t know if they’re for ventilation because of Covid or what, but the big 3 foot fans are so loud you can hardly hear yourself think. Is there a reason the mens section is minuscule? Have never seen one like that at any other TJ Maxx… and this is the downtown store!
This TJ Maxx is surprisingly good! They have a nice variety of items to choose from and other than the parking, it’s a great spot to go. This is a smaller TJ Maxx location, but it really does have a good selection. In the past it was a little bit hit or miss but here more recently they’ve really stepped up their game and the selection has been great! You have to enter and exit through the doors on the east side of the building but sometimes they change it up so that you use the doors on the north side of the building.
Tried to return something but the cashier told me my receipt wasn’t from there despite it saying the address on it. She also said the price from the hoody I was returning was different from my receipt but the hoodies in stock literally changed in the day I bought it. She then said the department number was wrong and and I would need to bring the tags but the tags say something different then the receipt so even if I brought the tags she probably still would have not accepted the return. Walked out infuriated.
I would rate it 5 stars because I always want to buy everything and it is a truly affordable costs however it is a nightmare to try to even check out of this place. Expect to wait longer than you spend time shopping. It will kill your patience kill your day to wait in one of these lines it's worse than a theme park. It is apparent that they don't pay their employees or treat them very well by the way their employees don't really care about their jobs and nobody in that place is ever happy or smiles
The air was out recently and it was too hot to shop comfortably. Why not buy indoor AC’s to provide your customers relief from the heat? Update: I love this TJ Maxx and felt I needed to revisit my previous review. I upped the stars and am adding an update. To relieve customers from the heat, they have placed large industrial fans (surrounded to be secure from little fingers) around the store. It is much more comfortable to shop now.
I aboslutely love TJ Maxx but this one appears to be struggling. It's located in an old department store building which is unique and adds a special charm to it but sadly to space just seems empty. There are plenty of clothes to choose from and I'd equate it to any other Tj Maxx but the store seems blank and depressing. I suggest you stop by just to see the details on the exterior of the building.
There are some great fines here but usually walk out buying things you don’t need. It’s fun to go around and see what you can find for a great deal. My favorite so far has been a pair of ankle boots that were half off of retail price due to a manufacturer error, though no error is visible in the shoes. They are my absolute favorite and it’s experiences like these that make me love shopping here.
A very hit and miss store for sure! You have tons of options but the same isn’t necessarily of great quality! You would have to go through quite a few things till you get something you can buy! I’ve visited the store for twice and have rarely seen people around. The staff is limited and the store and the surrounding aren’t super clean! So if you have the patience and the time one can go ans shop
This department store as many know has great deals on stylish brand-name products, which in turn is the main reason why Indianapolis residents tolerated the disarray of the shelfs, counters, cabinets, and floors. A couple of cashiers have fast food attitudes, ruled, but most of the cashiers are great. Their is one employee with slick back hair, who is always courteous, and kind, bravo for him.
I don't live in Indianapolis but, whenever I'm there on business, I always make it a point to stop at this TJ Maxx. It is a big store with lots of offerings from jewelry to clothes to household wares, furniture, etc. The prices are really great, and they have a wonderful selection overall. The employees have always been consistently very helpful and nice. I highly recommend this location.
Where are the employees? You have to ring a buzzer by the fitting rooms for someone to let you in, and after standing there for 5 minutes gave up and left. Returned because I needed a pair of swim trunks I left at home and just bought them without trying, I looked like a rodeo clown that cut his pants in half when I tried them on at the hotel and went down to the pool, I was embarrassed!
I shopped here while in town for the marathon and evidently left one of my bags behind and didn't notice it till I got home, almost 3 hours away. I called the store and Amber found my bag and mailed me the items! They arrived in a cute Christmas bag and she even included a gift key chain for me! Way to go with great customer service, Amber! Thank you!
As far as TJ Maxx goes, this one has a pretty decent selection for most items most of the time. It's also relatively well organized, and they seem to always be running at least three cashiers. The cons would be that the men's fitting room is on hard lockdown and not always attended, and it's located in an older building that is somewhat rundown.
Who doesn't like TJ Maxx?! The staff here isn't all too helpful, but they do their best. Women's and juniors selections are limited, but there are some solid finds if you search. Bath and body area has one of the better selections I've seen. Clearance almost never disappoints. Been shopping here for years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon
If you want to experience a bad TJ Maxx, visit this location. If you wear a size 9 in shoe then don't go to this location to purchase them. The layout of this location is too much. Parking is not easy at this location downtown you may have to walk. Never visit this location if your in a hurry or you actually want to find something to wear.
I really like this T.J. Maxx. You can always find great deals. Really nice fashion and accessories I especially love their purses. Great sells on pretty much everything you need, from clothing, accessories, shoes, luggage, housewares, even snacks, and specialty items. Things for the whole family. Also it's conveniently lockated. …
This is a very convenient location. However, the selection is not that great and they don't even carry men's shoes. It's not really a big deal for me but it can become very inconvenient especially when you try to shop for the entire family. Also there is a very bad smell in the women dressing room. I hope they will fix that soon!
I love every TJ Maxx I go in but, the web sight says they open at 9am on sat. Well I'm here to tell ya they didnt open till 9:30, normally it wouldn't be a big deal but my son is in the ICU, my intent was to run in grab some necessities and rush back, 30 extra min is a long time when your son is on life support.
This store has a huge selection. But I've been shopping a this location for years and there has never been any air conditioning at all. On this visit it was the worst it has ever been. I didn't even walk through the whole store because I was sweating after being in there for 2 mins
I really love this store. The location is very good and convenient. Also staff are really warm and friendly. The store updates with new items every week and prices are reasonable. You can find there lots of useful and interesting things and you never get bored there.
This TJ is located very close to Monument Circle and all the office in downtown. I spilled coffee one day at work and went here to buy a top and was surprised with the collection of office clothes at a very good price. Ended up buying lots of clothes and a handbag!
This store is certainly one of the most well presented TJ maxes I've been to. It gives the same homely vibe of going into Target, a warm and welcoming feel where even if you don't end up picking up anything the experience is enough to get a trinket or two
This store needs a serious overhaul! It’s was very messy, cluttered and hard to navigate! The lines were extremely long and I ended up putting my things back and leaving. I honestly wouldn’t return to this location unless it was under new management.
Love This Place..... The manager, a bald guy at the register is the most polite , professional and attentive I've came across in a while. Wonderful variety...... I will only come to this one.... ❤❤❤❤ …
Lot's of good shopping here. Would post a picture but my phone was taken from the bathroom here. Silly me, I took it out of my pocket so it wouldn't fall into the toilet. When I realized I had left it there, it was gone and no one had turned it in.
I enjoy shopping here. I wish I could find more items, but with it being in the heart of the city and the only decent place to shop , it's understandable as to why they run out of all the good merch so fast. The best place for hair care products.
I can go to this store only in winter/fall. However, in summer and spring it gets extremely hot in there and - believe it or not - they don’t have air conditioning! I can’t stay inside for more than 5 minutes not to mention trying something on.
What happened to T.J.Maxx downtown it is empty and looks like they are closing down.I haven't been there for awhile so that could be the case or they just have no new stock. I hope they are just waiting for stock because I love that store.
Descent place to shop in Indianapolis, easily accessible, you won't get much options here but rates are less as compare to other places. Not so crowded, good for visitors and tourists. So many hotels are nearby, near to monument circle.
Nobody ever smiles in here... If you need something you will take 10min to actually get help. I usually don’t write a review but I have been at this shop for more than 10 times and it is always disappointing how people hate their jobs.
Small compared to other TJ Maxx stores but they have a lot of inventory packed in there. Good place to get cheap, basic, casual clothes. There's some good deals in beauty section too. Designer stuff is really not that discounted.
Pretty nice selection, but the quality of the clothes is rather hit or miss. Half the apparel in there is likely made in sweat shops in Bangladesh so there's that to consider when you thinking you're getting a good deal.
This is one of my favorite locations. You never know what you're gonna find. Love to look through it all. Good customer service as well. Love the location of the store. Normally pretty easy to park despite where it is.
I asked one of the cashiers for a bag today to protect something I was caring from the rain. She informed me I could only have a bag if I purchased something. I guess i will never receive a bag from them again...
Awesome service and great selection. The store is very tidy and organized. I was able to hop in, get what i needed, and be out promptly with a fresh smile on my face because of the pleasant staff at the counter.
One of the best TJ Maxx's I've been to. HUGE selection with a wide variety of sizes ans styles for all season. Tons of home goods & hygenie items (coconut everything!). The clearance sections are HUGE!
I bet they have some really good prices on a lot of different things like for instance I got a king size blanket the type I've been looking for for a long time for only $24.99 anywhere else they're $59
Worst service!!! 6 employees or more wondering around the store with to cashiers and a line of customers. Used to be my favorite store but not returning. In line for 15 mins and still standing here.
Great stuff at low prices, but staff is not helpful. And actually make people leave before they can get up to register with their items they so diligently picked out very rude and unknowledgable.
Lots of shoplifting going on here every day. Even if there is a security officer on the floor, they can't stop them or prevent them from leaving and that sucks. Otherwise they have great prices.
I always find really good deals on things here. Whether it's clothes, bookbags, luggage, cologne, or electronics, this place never ceases to amaze me on prices. I highly recommend going here.
I like to go because not only do they have items I know they keep in stock, but I can always grab a few things I didn't know I needed, lol. Especially toys, books, and clothing for my child
Awesome found everything I was looking for and then some two pair of very very warm gloves and two very very warm sweaters great place check it out people work there are cool …
They really need to build a Home Goods and HomeScene at the mall. TJ Maxx is always so busy and we need more discount oriented retailors like them downtown as well as furniture stores.
Found some snack club candies I had been searching all over for at this location , store was nice and had a decent selection of clothes and items . Was a pleasurable sho{ing experience
Just what you'd expect at any TJ Maxx really. Tons of products. A few out of place items. Attentive and helpful staff. The cashiers are very nice. Wish they had more plus size items.
Stopped in to shop had some time before a show was starting. Very busy. Had lots to choose from. Line was very long had to wait for quite some time before we were able to check out.
This is a very good place to shop. They offer a lot of good, quality products for reasonable prices. The staff is also very accommodating and willing to lend assistance if needed.
TJ max is always the best. Quality trendy stuff and very good price. If you go with even 10$ you will get something fabulous to buy if you carefully look and walk around the store
Found something pretty much each time I shopped. If you want a super soft big ol blanket, this is definitely the place to go. I have bought 4 blankets from TJ and love every one.
Huge store with everything you can think off. Picked up a sweatshirt and gloves for the marathon for less than $10.00. Cashiers were fast for the amount of people shopping.
Love it. Great prices. Fast service. My only complaint is the front door. That door has been broken for 5+ years now... TJ Maxx should request the building owner fix it.
This TJ Maxx is a typical downtown department store. Well stocked with a nice selection of products, however I saw several large dust bunnies floating around the floor.
T J Maxx has become very diappointing! They have hardly any men's clothing anymore! No men's cologne etc! They have become just another women's and children's store!
Staff was exceptionally nice! Everyone I came in contact greeted me and went out of their way to make my shopping experience amazing Keep up the good work!
You never know what you might find. Sometimes I leave with nothing. Sometimes I leave with as much as I can carry. Not just shopping. It's an adventure.
Love that there is a TJ Maxx downtown. It's newly renovated and has great merchandise. Perfect location -- close to the mall, hotels, restaurants, etc!
The store looks so dull from inside and outside. Their collections are not amazing either but I like the option to find budget friendly things here.
Lot of stuff to choose from, but unfortunately some of the items like beauty products were already used and opened. So pls maintain the hygiene!
Love the device/box where you can lock away your phone on a charger they provide! And completely charged phone by the time you're done shopping
Very nice inside sale prices everywhere. Clothing is a little up scale. I bought a pair of born sandals nice leather brown summer shoes
Have shopped this store a few times. A lot of stock but much of it milled over for mens. Other family members visit here and browse.
Yay!! I had fun shopping....however, they xould spruce uo their shoe department. I can remember when it was larger selection.
The staff was super helpful and friendly. Safe, clean place to shop. They have a variety of name brand and unusual items.
I like the downtown TJ Maxx a lot, they have constantly updated selections. Very helpful staff and quick checkout.
My favorite discount retailer! Great selection and clean store! I absolutely love the cell phone charging station!
It's tjmaxx, only complaint is getting followed by employees when I'm being indecisive and taking longer to shop
They try their best to keep things organized and without clutter, nice price on almost all items though!
Needed a specific color shirt. Walked in and grabbed it right off the rack. Line went quick and smooth.
Love their diverse collection, they never fail. It is a little tricky for parking.. but def worth it ♥️
Not the best TJ maxx. The collection is very average. Conveniently located in downtown for easy access
The store in this location always has new stock at affordable prices. Great customer service.
Great selection and best pricing. However, customer service is mediocre (and, less staffing).
The personal working on sale, are giving u bad answers in bad way, if u ask something.
Had plenty of top notch skin creams ! Got the moisturizer that was 54.99 for 11.99!?
Store was hot. No AC...undercover guard kept popping up near me while shopping. :(
I was so happy I stayed in a hotel near here, got my emergency supplies here
Nice employees but their dress clothes are the worst quality I've ever seen.
They don't have to much there not a good selection like the other locations
Had what we were looking for and we got to exchange sizes with no problem
Nice store it sadly does not have the inventory that it once did though
They have nice things. You will enjoy your shopping experience there.
Well stocked, and has super friendly staff, not much else to say.
So much to choose from. They always have a great selection
Nice and polite service,a lot of choices in a store.
Bit pricy but have all the items one stop go
Very clean and easy to find good bargains!
Nice store layout. Easy to find things.
Different price tags on same product
Nice place for small household goods
Always a great place to shop.
I love it. Best for gifts too
No problems. Big selection.
Very nice and neat
