It is authentic, for sure: right down to the superior, racist views towards black people... If I could have given less than one star, I would have done... Racist, old-school Chinese thinking that black people must not be touched when paying for goods. The insulting, silly, ignorant little girl serving...+Insulted! If I could give zero stars I would. Black folk take your money where they don't treat you like a leper and an underling (I wouldn't mind, but the foolish person had plastic gloves on). The coins I handed over dropped and flew over the counter, because of her being so careful not to touch my hand. When I confronted her directly about this, she simply stared and when I asked for my receipt, she put it on the counter and slid it ignorantly towards me. I left while telling her she was rude. Appalling. They should be ashamed of themselves. Clear bigoted, uninformed views, passed down from elders to a young slip of a girl, between 18 - 23 years old...To add insult to injury, the website features a young african/Caribbean woman shopping...She would have not been so welcomed, and most likely followed by security,.,Jokers! Obviously, I shall be sharing this review far and wide, and never shopping there, or any of their other stores, ever again.
Don't really like the staff, if only they could be more friendly not only to customers who can speak Cantonese. However, the shop itself is a wonderful place where you can find a variety of Asian products. Fresh veggies and fruits, snacks, frozen foods, cooking ingredients and sauce - you can easily spend long time here and get something great. The price is acceptable (despite the fact that the price has raised gradually these years). For some frozen dumplings, they always have some discount such as 3for2 or 4or3 (buy 3 get 1 for free). As a chain, they also have other shops in Leeds - one is at LS2 3BA, under the Oasis Residence student accommodation; the other is around Leeds Uni (the Parkinson Building/Laidlaw library) at LS2 9HD. Plus they have slightly different working time. All of them are quite good Asian shops!
I love my food and I love ethnic food. I will eat more or less anything, and people that have known me for years still are surprised what I can take for packed lunch at work. Price, some very expensive produce in here, if you can get it elsewhere, it will be cheaper, but for choice or something different, definitely worth popping in. I find the staff distant, not very helpful or communicative, but this is more cultural than personal or individual as I've come across this mentality in other Chinese businesses, I will still give 5 stars. Every time I'm in Leeds, if I have time, I do have a walk up Vicar lane and have a pop in and try and get something new. If you want to impress some guests with home cooking, might be worthwhile nipping in.
My favourite spot to grab a vast array of multicultural foods in one spot. I wish they would actually use the bubble tea station instead of using it for storage. I'd actually buy from there if they did. I'm Brushing up on my chinese phrases and greetings to show my respect too as I love to visit so often. There is one lady on the till who is always in a bad mood but it just makes me laugh. I think she's an " auntie" I don't take offense to it, it just may bother other people who don't understand her, I've tried my chinese on her to get a smile , she doesn't care I think she would be better back of the store Instead of with the public but that's the joy of these supermarkets, it's always chaotic bliss
Absolutely horrendous experience, one of the staff was so rude. I bought a product today which I thought on the ticket said “on sale”, so when I get to the till, after the transaction, I asked politely to do a price check, and suddenly the staff got so annoyed and shouted at me, “so what you want a refund” and I said I just want to double check and she stormed off shouting and swearing in Cantonese and complaining about how annoying I am to her colleague RIGHT INFRONT OF ME , well I don’t fully understand the language but I surely did pick up some words to know enough how horrible the person is. Can’t believe I have to go through this experience just for asking the most basic question.
A wide range of variety of Chinese food available here, the shop is not massive but you will be surprised how many products they stocked!! The only problem with this shop is the till, it's always a long wait even though there're not many customer here. They do delivery when you spend certain amount, however they process the order and arrange the delivery manually so it always takes ages and I guess this is why it always hold up a long queue. Maybe they should invest a system to speed up the process or arrange the delivery at a different counter?
Cant think of anything you cant get here, stores fairly large, staff friendly and very helpful, if you cant find what your looking for! ask a member of staff and they will take you to what your looking for, note! Some items are in multiple types ie:- soya sauce comes in many different types some are quite thick some runny so you need to make sure you get the right one your looking for, there are also many many rice noodles etc all in all a very good place to buy your oriental cuisine ingredients and not to expensive too!
Grabbed 3 bags of dumplings as they were on offer 342. As they have been before. When I questioned it at the till, the server went to check and passed it off as a deal on other products. I'm certain as it read veggie and seafood was omitted but she showed me a completely different offer. She removed it. I couldn't be bothered challenging it but dishonesty does not sit well and I will not go back. Bit sad as I've been going a number of years.
I really like this shop. It's the best you can find in the centre and has a big variety of food. I particularly like it for the tofu and tempeh section in the fridge, best price you can get. Also I love it for the choice of noodles and miso paste but also things like kimchi and sauces in general. Lots of snacks and staple food as well as vegetables. You have to go if you are in town.
Great Asian supermarket! So much stock, absolutely love it here. I’m trying to learn more Asian cooking while we are in this lockdown so this store has been amazing for getting everything I need. Staff are super friendly. Think they might also stock little moons, did hear them telling someone they are out of stock at the moment though.
I could spend hours exploring this store. The staff are helpful and friendly. The stock is huge with not only food products but cooking utensils and equipment. My bus stop has been moved just outside this amazing supermarket and I can't resist going in to shop for more ingredients for the Thai, Korean and Japanese food I love to make
This is my go to oriental supermarket. Walking in for the first time was like heaven. Every ounce of eastern Asian food tightly packed into a shop. I felt a little out of place with a lot of the customers being of course eastern Asian . But nevertheless its one of my favourite places. Definitely deserves the 5*s
Oriental supermarket selling Chinese, Japanese, Korean , Malaysian products. They have fresh Meat/Fish counter Fresh products/ Frozen items Sauces/ Noodles/ Dumplings/Tins/Jars/Packets , Bao’s / Dim Sum and so on………. You name it they have it, a place that won’t let you down on any items or utensils for cooking
My brother and my mum went the Taste The Orient Vicar Store today and they brought some Asian food for the 1st time and they had a nice time there even they brought something for me for passing my maths exam in school today. they had a good time today at Taste The Orient Vicar Lane Store in Leeds
Great Chinese supermarket, good amount of fresh veg, I've never seen so many different types and brands of tofu in my life, wall of ramen, freezer goods, lots of tea and sweeties. Been coming in every so often for years. Really like the expanded shop- even more options!
Good selection of Asian ingredients&v busy. Kind girl on checkout counter but would be helpful if someone was available to advise on ingredients, different products, etc.Quite pricey but is a one-step shop for most mainstream Asian products you might want (I think!).
Was first time in this store and bought something, but one of the items was actually charged for two times without I knew before I left the city. I don't know it was done deliberately or neglectfully by casher 4 ? Can anyone please check? Thanks.
This is the main (biggest) Asian shop in Leeds City centre. It has Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Singapore as well as Vietnamese and a few Philipino products as well. Everything from noodles to tea, rice, drinks, sauces etc.
The great place to shop Asian food materials in Leeds. There are almost everything for cooking and ready to eat food. If you're interested in Asian food such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean, you don't miss the chance to visit here.
Love the diverse range of products here. I've visited this and another shop in the area, but I find this one is more well stocked. And the way the items are laid out is more organised. I'll definitely come back here. Love it!
On the day, I visited there because the food was my necessity. Daikon was quite too dear for me to buy one, very understanding around this time. Tai curry paste reasonable price. Natto is my must. I live this shop.
Friendly staff, amazing range of fruit, vegetables and snacks. Lovely woman at the tills that gave me a dragon fruit cheaper because it was small. :) Reasonably priced too for what you get. Definitely recommend
Vast variety of Oriental products. Staff could be a bit friendly. The shop isn't very pram friendly as it is a bit narrow and there are always boxes stocked along the corridors.
Really helpful staff. I needed some ingredients which I would not even have been able to spell never mind find bit the staff found me everything I needed. Great place to shop.
One of my favourite places in Leeds. Great variety of food and condiments. Love the new cooking utensil isle too. I really like to go there as a Sunday trip to the city.
Lots of variety, little bit pricey and the staff wasn't the friendliest, but in terms of finding asian items it's got near enough everything you could want.
Love this shop so much! The only disappointment is that I had the best spicy lotus root snack from there but it's never been in stock since. Gutting
Large excellent oriental supermarket, fresh vegetables and meat. Fantastic tofu and noodle selection and a huge freezer section.
Really lovely place. We came here for a snack. Nice staff, quick service authentic flavour and taste. I hope you enjoy the food.
Great shop for buying east asian food. It has a wide variety products to choose from, and an overall welcoming vibe and design.
I like how there's much more to offer noodle wise and freezer. I love the fact how much durian I can get here! Nice staff
Great selection of products, but shop has been a little run down for a good while! Staff are always friendly though =]
Massive shop, great selection of items. If you’re after something to cook up a tasty meal here is the place to go.
Great experience. Amazing store. Do they have halal frozen chicken gyoza/dumplings/momos?
Amazing place . All the food and drinks are amazing! I definitely recommend :)
Diversity Asian seasoning sauces / ingredients, foods and snacks also.
The little employee with black glasses is very rude to customers.
