Look. You get what you get, at a price. But I wish I checked the reviews. I am from a regional area, so the city noise and light was just too much for me. The rooms are above bars and function rooms - so I only stopped hearing people at about 12/12:30am. I’m not sure if it is the same during the weekend, but the dump trucks started at 03:00. The windows might as well not be there, no sound insulation. The offices across the road leave there lights on, so even with the blinds down, the room was lit the whole night. Location is hard to rate because it is close to the public access routes and the city. So if that’s what you’re after - it’s a win. But if you want to sleep… maybe consider spending a bit more. Food was well priced and delicious though.

Close to bus stops and parking lots. Book a parking lot for a better rate as the street parking is very restricted.

Well priced for the city and delicious. Bar was busy, but I was served within 10mins.

For accommodation - stay away! Pay that extra bit of money for an actual hotel. Terrible service from staff. (Cleaners were lovely though) Terrible rooms with paper thin walls, rattling windows, and lack of power. Not child friendly. Do not bring kids here. Bathroom is shared. Two showers and two toilets in each bathroom. Not fun. Water pressure barely exists. Top two floors are rooms. Middle two floors are for functions that can get quite rowdy. Bottom floor is the pub. Boy oh boy, you do not want to be staying here for this very reason. You will not get sleep. This establishment is really just a rowdy af pub. Every night. Drunkards pick into this place and they don’t leave until 11-1:30 each bloody night. That plus the functions turn this place into basically three floors of partying. If you would like to keep your sanity and actually get sleep, go somewhere else. Literally nothing positive to say about our experience here.

This is an older hotel in Sydney. So keeping that in mind as well as the price it is good value. The room was clean and tidy, with a queen and 2 singles. You had to run the hot water for 10 minutes to get it through the pipes. (as advised by a sign) Being on level 4 you could hear the traffic noise and pedestrian lights. Sometimes the trucks and busses would rattle the window. Light sleepers in this street facing room may find it an issue. By prior arrangement the manager allowed us to drop off our luggage only a couple of small bags. This was really appreciated, thank you staff and management. The downstairs bar was not operating when we visited.

Clean and comfortable hotel, my room had a sink inside which was nice. Shared bathrooms were cleaned daily and I never had to wait for a shower. Was a bit loud in the early evening with the after work bar crowd downstairs but it quieted up by about 10pm on the weeknights. Checking in was a bit rough because I had to flag down a bartender but they were very helpful and friendly! Let me keep my luggage there all day after I checked out and before I went to the airport. Great location for the price. Minutes from a metro station.

This is a hotel and there is a bar/restaurant on the street level. The bar is usually crowded and the end of work days and Saturday, but close on Sunday. The hotel reminds me of a hostel except for the room at the corner of the hotel on the 4th floor, it has 3 beds and has its own bathroom. For all the other rooms on the floor, you share a common bathroom.

We had a great time at the hotel. The rooms are clean, so are the bathrooms. Even if shared, as a women I felt very safe to use it even at night. The staff was very friendly, they kept our bags during the day after check out too. Some people seem to expect intercontinental standard for 60$…yes naturally you will have road noise, but what do you expect in a city? Cannot complain about bar noise, we stayed only Sunday night when the bar was closed.

The staff were friendly and helpful on arrival. The hotel did shut its doors early (6:30 pm on recall), with no meal options. We could still enter by key. The location was excellent. The room space was ok. A little noisy (to be expected in a central city location). The lighting was dim. The lack of hot water was the major disappointment, even though we ran the tap for at least 30 mins, so we had cool showers.

Very convenient location next to Wynyard station. Has recently undergone a renovation to the bar area which looks good. There are also seats and tables outside if you prefer but it can be loud with the traffic. Came on a Tuesday afternoon and it was packed. Fills up with a lot of Office workers each day from 5 and clears out around 7. Not sure if it's a constant thing but they had $6 pints (4:30 to 6:30) which is quite good in comparison to other places.

Great location. Had dinner here and stayed at the hotel for a night. Very affordable, clean rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable beds, airconditioning in rooms and the rump steak was probably the best steak I've had in years.

Cozy pub, fills up quickly at lunch time. The food is good quality and better value than other pubs in the area, however the portion size is smaller. Good range of food choices.

Lovely old-fashioned small city hotel. Rooms are small, but comfortable. Sink in room, but showers and toilets are down the hall. Popular pub with good pub food. Location is great: next to Wynyard Station and easy walking distance to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Australian Museum.

Loved the private function room, the only thing that limits a clean sweep of 5* rating is the view ( harbour views, and it was perfect). Located close to Wynyard, this is easily accessible and has a wonderful collection of drinks. Enjoyed the service.

It’s old world, so if you like the charm of wood paneling and hidden nooks and crannies, this is your place. My friend is staying there and it’s super affordable, with their room having a shared bathroom. Well located to Wynyard station. Above a pub, so… that may not be everyone vibe. There’s no lavish (or any) hotel foyer.

We cannot comment on rooms/accommodation as we dropped into this pub later in the evening after a work function. This establishment is a bit shambles and the toilets downstairs are dungeon like, but it still had some charm about it. The staff were helpful and kind and we met some very considerate patrons.

We booked two rooms for the weekend and loved staying here for the price and our purpose to see the main sights in the city. The location is excellent and accessible. The rooms and bathrooms are clean with basic amenities.

Accidentally wandered into the Occidental. Big mistake!!! Rudest bar staff (assuming the manager for all the walkie talkies). Too busy to look up from his phone to serve me, them when he did, one look & walked into the next bar. Had to ask if I was standing in the no service area to get served.

This place is the gift that keeps on giving! Having been a semi regular punter/patron for ten years, having access to $6 pints in 2023 is a windfall. And, this is on all beers between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Decor decent post renovation. Highly recommended!

The best spot for happy hour beers in the city. Stand on the footpath, drink your pint, listen to the beats provided by the brickies apprentice next to you who has brought his own ueboom.
