Editing to add: changing my review from originally a 5 start then to a 4 star now to 1 star. I went in at noon and none of the birds had food and their water looked like it hadn't been changed in days. I left the store feeling stressed out and sad for all of the animals. Edited to add: I changed my review from a 5 star to a 4 star because I went in on the weekend to buy a Meyers parrot (I brought a cage with me because I was sure I was going to get her) and the owner was off and the staff member working had no idea what he was talking about and couldn't give me any information on the Meyers. He couldn't even figure out which of the two was the friendly one so I took it upon myself and asked if I could open the cage, he said yes but then came up and closed the cage a few minutes later because the rainbow Lori was trying to get in. So I got the rainbow Lori back in its cage and opened the Meyers cage again but then he came up and shut it again. I left empty handed and upset. I also peaked into a couple of the bird cages and the water was dirty and grimy with multiple dead bugs in them. I feel like the staff needs better training, and perhaps more staff to help clean the cages. If you attend while Chris the owner is their on a weekday I'm sure your experience will be better.

Very rude staff. I went into the store to buy some bird toys, so he knows that I am a "bird person" I took a picture in the store of some of the birds and the worker told me that next time I took a picture to ask permission. I found that odd, but it is their store so I complied with their wishes without saying anything (I may have had a surprised look on my face). He then had to add something like "It is private property, it is just common sense to ask" - there was totally no need for that. As a result of that he lost whatever business I was going to give him . The store also seems very dirty and smelly. The birds did not have a lot of toys in their cages. It is a small store with different animals, so even if they did keep things clean there probably still would be a smell, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt here. I am not one to give bad reviews, but I was shocked at how rude an employee of the store was. If I could give 0 stars I would. It is not like a big box store where they can afford to lose customers. As a result I drove across the city to Big Al's and purchased what I needed there.

Just walked out without purchasing. HERE IS WHY: - Redhead employee was selling a live rat (I understand some feed their snakes live that’s fine) but they could have done it more discreetly. ANDDD the employee held the rat by the tail in the air for a long while! Whether they are destined for food or not this is an incorrect way of holding them. - Employees were goofing around and not really providing any customer service - Store SMELLED bad as well - As I was about to head out I was talking to the redhead employee about the parrots. She interrupted me to correct me on parrot behaviour?? What are your qualifications ma’am? I’ve worked with birds for years. Left a bad taste in my mouth when I was already not happy. CUSTOMER SERVICE NO GOOD. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone in the city.

Got two of my birds from here. The store owner, Janna, was very nice to answer all my questions as a new bird owner. She raised both my birds from when they were young and still needed to be handfed, so they both came to me very tame. She also supported me when I had questions afterwards about bird behavior troubleshooting and such. I can tell she cares very much about all her animals even after sale. I can't recommend this store enough because having someone knowledgeable to help as a new owner is extremely valuable. She also cares not to sell products which are known to be harmful for our pets, such as happyhuts for birds. Thank you Janna and your team.

Came in with my girlfriend and 2 daughters. We came to buy some fish. The girl at the desk had a family of customers which is fine but after they've been rung out and what not they started talking about life problems and life situations as my family and I are just patiently waiting to buy fish. My youngest started crying in the buggy as she was starting to get impatient and not 1 person cared or looked over, not even the girl who worked there. Then I said "hello?" And lord behold the phone rings so she told us to hold on a moment. So we left. Will never go back. Worst experience. Do your job better!

If I could give 1000 stars I would. I’d say the best “pet” store I have ever been too, but they aren’t a “pet” store. They are a temporary home for their animals till they find their forever home. They treat all the pets there like their own. You can tell they aren’t just in the business for business, they are there because they genuinely love animals. They are also extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They won’t sell things that aren’t good for your pets and give u honest answers. So if u are looking for a small pet, Bird or reptile make the trip to urban zoo. You won’t be disappointed ❤️

Love this place the new owner is amazing. We brought our baby hedgehog in and learned so much about new tricks and techniques for nail trimming. She helped ease my anxiety with the stigmas of being a first time hedgehog owner whoa still learning as I go. She educated me on so much that I didn't know as well. Both mom and daughter of the store greeted us and had so much compassion in their animals you can see and feel it when you walk in the door. O highly reccomendknf them to others. Also don't forget to say hello to Jose and lady the two beautiful birds.

Best place in Hamilton to get all your reptile, and exotic animal needs. I visited this place after having issues at another 'reptile/exotic pet store' and after talking to the owner Janna and purchasing the supplies I needed, she told me that if there is something I need and they don't have they would gladly order it in.. this will definitely be my go to store from now on..

I’ve bought multiple birds from them and they were all very sweet and healthy birds! I love the Urban Zoo because you can tell that they care for their birds and their birds are very happy and friendly. They also offer a great assortment of food, toys, and other bird needs. They’re also always happy to provide advice and assist you in your bird needs.

Janna and Alanna are absolutely wonderful humans! They are very knowledgeable, kind and patient. They have made a few house calls for grooming my parrot and they have been so great and patient with him. Both are very skilled! When I visit the store they are always happy to answer my questions and provide recommendations. Highly recommend!

This store has kept my son's Crested Gecko happily munching on live crickets since 2011. "Flame" is well on his way to living 15-20 years...and meeting my future grandkids LOL. Love the beautiful, compact layout of the new store. Super colourful and artistic!

Visited today to get some pellets for my Parrot. The owner was their and was very friendly. They had lots of birds, and she even gave me a tip about soaking pellets in mango juice for my caique. Very happy with the friendliness and customer service.

Very clean store and very friendly/knowledgeable staff. You can tell they take pride in their work and always want to make sure their animals are going to a proper home. Will definitely be doing my pet shopping here for the foreseeable future.

Got my Linny's beak and claw trimmed here for the first time. Great price and good job done. I think they care about the birds even more than the customer, which is the way it should be. Very knowledgeable and we will certainly be going back.

This store is fantastic. There is a wide range of small animal foods and treats as well as a selection of birds, lizards, fish and small animals. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. My go-to for anything bird related.

They have taken care of my birds upkeep for 2 years now. Super knowledgeable and caring. When I first got Phil he was suffering from a vitamin deficiency now he is a happy bird with glowing colors thanks again guys.

One blonde lady is always hiding in the washroom. Have to wait and literally yell out for someone to come and help us get what we need. Shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes for someone to come and serve us at a store.

Nice vine in this cute little pet supply store. Not much for fishkeeping beyond some supplies for bettas. Many lovely birds, and reptiles and the supplies they need. Convenient right on Concession.
