Don't bother! Being foodies we were looking forward to a night to remember, well its one we won't forget but not in a good way. Started the night with staff trying to shove us onto a table at the door that wasn't even made up with the wind and rain blowing in on this unusual summer night, we asked if we could have a table closer in and felt like its was an imposition or perhaps we were not hip enough to sit next to the other punters. After receiving menu's we waited for ever before someone decided to ask for our order with it being very clear we were ready to order and had menus stacked and kept trying to make contact with one of the many staff on for the night. We shared the squid which was just fried calamari rings probably frozen from the bottom of the freezer draw as it lacked any piazza. My partner decided not bother eating this due to its unforgettably sad flavor saving herself for the main course. After finishing the starter and wondering what happened to the drinks we ordered we called over a waiter to ask for the wine which he thought was a second order. We eventually received our wine which was at least cold! Mains had to be the last straw....my curry was more like a watered down Italian pasta sauce without the pasta or any flavor what so ever not to mention the sprinkle of seafood that again was tasteless and over cooked. Partner ordered the pork belly which we joked about it being twice cooked, once last week and left in the pan then again on the night! Salad served with the pork look and tasted like it was left in an old boot sock. We don't normally take the time to complain but the night was such a disaster that we only thought it right to let people know. On top of this we got hit with a $85 bill.
Two friends and l ate here this evening . We were asked if we wanted drinks whilst choosing the food . My friend ordered a cocktail and l requested a g&t . The cocktail , which you would hope has actually been made (as opposed to a mix) arrived in good time . My g&t failed to appear . Leaving a polite amount of time between each enquiry , we asked our waitress and another , three or four times if it was coming . It was always just on it’s way . I ordered a beer to have with my food . Still no g&t until after we had started eating . We encountered Travis behind the bar at the till when we went to pay . We told him about the almost absent gin and his response was to ask if l’d drunk it ! I told him l’d had it for pudding as it was so late . His apology was dripping with insincerity and he excused this dreadful lack of basic service by saying it was his first day back and that my g&t order hadn’t gone through . If that were the case , how come my friends cocktail arrived ? Travis , your performance this evening was hardly a masterclass in customer service . We paid and left happy in the knowledge that there is plenty of inviting competition all around therefore no need to ever return . The food was delicious , thankyou chef(s)

Takeaway dinner @Tom_Phat for some South East Asian inspired fare. The quality is second to none, I really enjoyed the different dishes. Roti with Satay Sauce - roti needed a little more cooking in some spots but was very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed with the deep flavours of the satay. Each version differs and this is excellent. Pad see ew - stir fried soy sauce noodles with egg, greens, and tofu (can opt for a protein). Wow, amazing flavours, spicy, sumptuous. I can see why this is popular. Rendang beef - they've taken a twist on this by wrapping it in roti. The beef rendang is absolutely fantastic! Melt in your mouth tender beef with a deep flavour that only rendang can offer and the curry is so so flavoursome. The awesome thing about potatoes and curry is that the potatoes are like a sponge and just absorb all that flavour. Vietnamese Yellow Curry - with braised chicken, root vegetables, coconut, lemongrass and a serve of Jasmine rice. I really enjoyed this, full of flavour, creamy, a spicy, fragrant coconut, with the rice absorbing the flavours. #AsianFood #satay #roti #yellowcurry #noodle #rice #padseeew #rendang #takeawayy #foodcoma #foodie #melbournefood #melbournecbd @zomatomelb #sydneyrdbrunswick
This was our first time at Tom Phat and we decided on the five dish Feed Me-style menu between four of us. I was a little concerned due to the pan-Asian menu (Jack of all trades, master of none?) but once the food arrived, worries were forgotten! I was pleasantly surprised by the range and depth of flavours overall. We had lamb ribs, beef rendang, fried pepper prawns, murtabak, chilli chicken wings/drumettes and rice. The dishes were similar to items on the menu, our waitress explained, but slightly modified. There was so much food that the four of us (three hungry chefs and a pregnant foodie) had to concede defeat. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. The drink offerings include a selection of tempting non-alcoholic options (we tried the mango, the lychee and the mint - all delicious!). Cocktails are a reasonable $16 ($12 during Happy Hour). All served with metal straws - high five for that ! As others have mentioned, the lighting could be a bit brighter. But otherwise, it was an excellent value meal and we will definitely be back.
The staff were good and didn't bother us during our meal, and the decor is fine and tidy, but the food. Oh the food- don't even bother. The spring rolls were tiny and tasteless and seemed pretty much empty except for a slice of tofu. The sauce which came with them was so watery it just made them wet. The roti wasn't very big and was about 3x the price of any other roti I've ever had. To be fair it tasted okay but wasn't anything special. The chicken 'curry'.. if you can call it that, was pretty abysmal. It was more like a curry flavoured chicken soup it was so watery. The chicken itself seemed to be really cheap cuts of meat and was full of bones, so half of it wasn't even edible. A Coles heat&eat curry was better than this by a mile. I was looking at the food of the tables next to us and they seemed to have the same type of food so I'm guessing this is all pretty standard fare. Honestly I'm surprised this restaurant was as full as it was.
My partner and I went there last night for dinner. Since I'm Southeast Asian, I was at first skeptical but when I saw the menu, I got excited. The dishes we ordered were delicious! I ordered one of the specials for the night which was the Tom Yam fried rice with roasted duck flakes, and my partner ordered the Beef Rendang. The beef was slow-cooked to perfection. Both our orders didn't disappoint. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly. Plus the interior design gave a very cozy ambience. I really plan to return to this special spot.

Tasty Thai food but perhaps this place is a bit overrated. We purchased the sharing plate of squid, which was cooked fine but a bit dry needed a dipping sauce I reckon, I enjoyed my north Indian Thai chicken "from the pots" the flavour in the sauce was awesome, chicken was not bad, it could be better if it was chicken on the bone etc, partner had a chicken pad Thai which was ordinary. Beer on tap was just okay, had a funny name, couple of things to mention - the person that took our order had a funk of B.O. but staff were fine in general. There's certainly a younger crowd that go there and something I don't particularly like which is very common in a lot of places around here - the lighting is very low, they have a lot of localised lighting but it's mostly for show and not light, for me it's like sitting in almost darkness.
Tom Phat offers above-average service with attentive staff who went above and beyond during our visit. However, the food was disappointing. We chose the 8-course "feed me" menu, and while the entrees were just good, the fried chicken was almost burnt with a questionable oil taste. The mains lacked flavor and seemed reheated, including the beef rendang, pork belly with undercooked fatty skin, and fatty lamb. We hesitated to order dessert but tried the ice cream, which had a sickly sweet caramel-like topping. The service was consistently good, but the food didn't meet expectations. Tom Phat is worth considering for its service, but be prepared for underwhelming cuisine. We won’t be returning.

This place is so.damn.GOOOOOD I went here with my aunty and uncle for my birthday dinner the other week: we all agreed it was THE BEST meal we'd had when eating out in a dang long time! We only ordered vegetarian dishes from the entree and main parts of the menu but eat of them was equally as delicious as the others. All had their own unique flavour and certainly didn't lack any seasoning! Perfectly done! Plus, the staff were all on the ball the whole time: extremely friendly, helpful and made sure we were well attended too without hovering over our shoulders (bc that's annoying af)!!! Food came out really fast BUT it was a Monday so best to pick times earlier in the week as I'm sure they'd be PACKED come the weekend!
Really awesome, little hidden restaurant. My partner and I order a "feed me" platter, where you get 6 dishes of the restaurant's choice for $45. It was such great value for money and everything was so tasty! The staff were friendly and we're regularly checking on our meals. The pork belly was a little on the vinegary side, and slightly overpowering - so I didn't eat much of that. The fat to meat ratio was also a little off. But, in saying that, everything else was so lovely and my partner and I had a lovely experience!

Halfway through eating here I discovered there was glass in my food. There were two pieces of glass that were the size of 10 cent pieces along with smaller pieces of glass. The staff insisted that it was plastic when it was clearly glass! I still was made to pay for everything except the one dish with the big pieces of glass in it. I emailed the restaurant two weeks ago hoping that the manager would be able to give a full refund and haven’t received any response. I was pretty disappointed since I had previously only heard good things about this place. I’d recommend eating here if you love munching on glass and paying for it.
I really don’t understand why this place rates so high on google and Zomato!.....this place is actually a disgrace to south eastern Asian cuisine!.....the food is TASTELESS and really confusing. It’s like they just throw every ingredient together hopping that it taste good. I truely believe the chefs at this establishment do NOT taste there food. If they did they would be very wise not to put it on the menu. Do youself a favour and read the negative reviews. The common theme is “TASTELESS” “BLAND”...bad service I can handle and even rudeness. But food needs to be awesome especially with such a high rating!!!
Wow I forgot how good the food is here! With so many eateries to choose from now in more northern realms, I hadn’t bothered to come this far south to eat for some time. It was so good I can back in a week. Coconut pineapple and pandan cocktail less rum for me, interesting mango sour beer for my nephew. He’s transitioning to vegan and I’m GF DF and there was heaps to choose from. Betel leaf filled with pineapple and other tasty stuff was just too good. Crispy tofu squares with some delicious sauce on them - honestly the tastiest tofu I’ve ever had. Staff are laid back and friendly.
Food was awesome. We did the "feed me" and let them know what we did not like and wow. Just wow. Our waitress was wonderful and the rest of the team were more than happy to help out. The facilities were spotless and seem to be checked on and cleaned regularly during service. A must go to. Food heaven Food coma Yummo

This is Asian fusion done well in the competitive Brunswick landscape. Today's Chiangmai curry noodles with soft shell crab and herb salad was scrumptious, flavoursome, wholesome and satisfying without overwhelming any of the senses. My friend enjoyed his Jungle Pork, full of aromatic spices in the succulent dish. Friendly and helpful service in a funky setting, totally befitting the hipster scene of the area. Enjoy a meal or Friday night drinks from their extensive cocktail list.
I loved the atmosphere. I was so delighted when I arrived to the restaurant. It was like magic It was the first time I ate there, the waitress was so kind to explain the dishes for me and give me some recommendations. Everything was delicious! I'd definitely go back to have dinner again

Tom Phat came highly recommended by a friend, however I was ultimately disappointed. Although the customer service and ambiance was good, the food was somewhat lacking - the coconut rice was overly wet and soggy, the cashew nut stirfry lacked flavour, though the chiang mai and prawn dumplings were both good. With an abundance of good Thai spots in Brunswick, I'm not sure I'd go back.

Wonderfully delicious food, flavourful Pad Thai, scrumptious coconut rice, crispy pork belly, cold beer, and crisp veggies. Loved it. A touch on the pricey side so not an everyday meal. Noticed a LOT of uber eats orders being fulfilled which surprised me given the price point. The revolving door of uber eats drivers right at your table did kill the vibe a touch unfortunately.

Had takeaway tonight, we ordered chicken pad Thai and they gave me Tofu Pad Thai, tasted bad looked like it had been microwaved, also the Kungpow Cauliflower was soggy and the coconut rice was almost like coconut rice pudding, too much coconut milk. The one dish that was actually ok was a fried chicken dish which I didn’t want to order but the staff misheard me on the phone. This place used to have amazing food, possible change of ownership suspected.
The most delicious Thai food I have had in awhile. We went for dinner (3 adults) at about 8pm on a week night. Lucky we had a booking as it was quite full. We ordered 2 starters (corn fritters and fried chicken) then 2 mains (green curry and pork belly) with rice and roti to share. Over enough food and really delicious. I wished I had hard to take the extra dipping sauces home. A gem in Brunswick

Everything is great here. I'm pretty sure the people complaining about the food don't understand the style of restaurant they're going to. No it's not a cheap place but its not pretending to be. There is a significant difference in dinin experiences between the two sides, it's always better on the bar side. It feels more cozy, less busy, the bar staff are nearby and treat you like kings. Go in the early evening for the best experience.
Food is decent enough but I have never really had a great experience here. Staff don't really seem to care all that much about service. Last time I was here, we gave our order and then were told it was changed because someone reviewed it and decided we needed rice instead of bread. We had to ask them to change it back to what we ordered. It was the weirdest thing ever. With so much competition in the area, I won't rush back.
Nice atmosphere & music and the staff were friendly, however the food was quite underwhelming. I had a tofu curry and it wasn't seasoned well and was very bland. The dish was well presented, however the crispy noodles were soggy and flowery & the dish lacked flavour and was very average for the price. Had a nice Yuzu cocktail, but would not recommend for the food.

I'm a MtF trans woman and I love this place soo much! The food is awesome...the service is super friendly and its laid back Brunswick style...super tasty food...if you love calamari then you've gotta try the Chili salt squid OMG, its delicately done, non greasy and so light you'll want more than 1 serve...add a soft shell crab salad with that and yeah...I'm loving it and you will too, a great place to eat and drink.
Love the twist on every dish here. The xiao long bao is surprisingly delicious. The pork belly is also well seasoned but the way it is presented, it’s very hard to enjoy the dish. The given cutlery isn’t capable to cut through the crackling skin cleanly. That dish was a mess to eat.

Good friends eat here regularly so we decided to give it a try. Had rice paper roll, roti, pad thai and the pork belly. A little too much noodle on the Pad Thai but otherwise serving sizes were quite good. Staff were friendly and efficient but kitchen was just a little slow. The pork belly was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection - highly recommended. We look forward to returning for another great meal.
Ordered delivery through Deliveroo. Very prompt but the pad thai I ordered was basically burnt on the bottom and the noodles were extreamly stuck together with hardly any peanut sauce... so instead of that delicious peanut smell it just smelled charded and unpleasant. I've eaten at the restaurant and really enjoyed it, so this was a huge disappointment, especially for the price.
Sadly this place has gone down hill. Whilst the cocktails are yum and waiting staff lovely - the food just doesn't feel fresh or made with love. Over cooked, lacked flavour. I have faith in this place but I do hope the review the menu and refresh the kitchens approach. The menu feels like it's stuck in the early 2000s just like the music playlist - strokes/yeahyeahyeahs/jet?!
Went there with a friend for cocktails/early dinner. I liked the bar and the margies were delightful.

The tofu curry was v tasty but needed more heating (the tofu pices were a bit cool inside). But I don't want to put anyone off, as it was otherwise ace and I'd go back.
Good atmosphere, and good drinks. The food was disappointing. Ordered the special tiger prawns, came with 4 prawns all were overcooked. Red rice was spiced but all the spices were left in, had to spit out pieces of cinnamon, galangal, cardamom, and cloves etc trying to eat the rice. Had one spoon of curry drizzled for decoration. Would've been better with white rice.
Had a fantastic experience at Tom Phat Brunswick. The food was delicious and the team were so friendly and attentive. Our waiter specifically was so welcoming and helped us decide what to order. I would definitely the Xinjiang Lamb, so delicious. Would also recommend the chilli caramel pork belly, it was so good.

Amazing food! I've never had any Vietnamese dish this delicious before! The service was excellent as well. I was sharing a dish and they immediately picked up on that and checked if we wanted extra plates. Most places don't seem to do that. They're very perceptive and thoughtful. The price was good and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Great value for money!
A place like Tom Phat is the reason food outside Melbourne seems bland and mediocre. Friday night takeaway with a super flavourful fried chicken, shrimp stirfry you can't get enough of, and amazing roti with sauce. Tom Phat has been around for 15 years but is still going strong and reinventing itself. We're so lucky to live near it!
Be wary of 'happy hour cocktails.' You'll just order whatever and then get a bill for like $100. Only 'some' of the cocktails are considered house cocktails and thus $10. They need to be much clearer with this to avoid confusion. Aside from that the food is really amazing and the drinks themselves are wonderful. Great atmosphere.
Ordered Tom Phat take away over the weekend. Oh boy it was absolutely amazing! I had the fried chicken, the curry and some roti. The fried chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy from the inside. The curry had such amazing flavours with so many different ingredients in it. Everything was so good! Will definitely order again!
Enjoyed a lovely meal. The beef rendang was so soft and delicious! The pork belly was great too but had a bit too much fat. The hibiscus cocktail was so yummy. The portions were on the smaller side and fairly dear. We ordered the Asian veggies and were really disappointed paying $12 for a plate of small chopped stems of bok choy.
Really love the food here, fantastic and very generous serving sizes. Also has a good vibe and the service is great. Unfortunately though I have been sick twice here from gluten contamination, so a little more care needs to be taken in the kitchen. Otherwise though, I do really recommend to people who eat GF but aren't coeliacs.
We found a table on a Saturday night, without a booking. The waitresses were friendly, and very accommodative of our puppy. The food arrived extremely quick and the taste was heavenly, we were inhaled everything! (Hence no photos). Definitely recommend the eggplant noodles, pad thai and barramundi. We will definitely return
Amazing experience. The atmosphere is very chill, the service is great and the staff are brilliant. The food was simply beautiful. The dishes were created with fresh ingredients and a 'secret-fusion' of traditional Thai flavours. Will recommend and do recommend this amazing Thai experience. Thank you team Tom Phat …
Used to love the food here the last time I had it was over 6 months ago. Order last night and sadly the food was very bland and below average. Kung pao cauliflower was steamed with a weird topping, no heat. Pad thai ( that used to be one of best I ever had ) was listless and flavourless. Beef rendang was... not rendang.
Went for lunch, been wanting to try this place out for the longest time, and I wasn’t disappointed. Walking in, the place smelled heavenly, service was good and staff were friendly, the dishes seemed quite generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Quality and range was on point, can’t wait to go back.
The food is amongst the best in Melbourne, and the prices are quite reasonable. Servings are not small, and the place has a good atmosphere. Staff don't hang about to chat as they are so busy, but that's fine. The music was not too loud last night, but it tends to be too loud most of the time.
1 of the 3 dishes that i ordered was so burnt i couldn't even eat it. The serving sizes are a joke! The average person would need to order 3 main meals to feel satisfied. All of the menu suggestions the staff made were the most expensive items on the menu. This place is a complete rip off!
Great menu with a fusion cuisine. Had the Coconut Chicken Salad and wanted another. Delicious. Many Gluten Free options available. The Ho Chi Mint cocktail is very refreshing. Will try the Kumbucha next time. Music was great. Spent the day Shazaming regularly. Friendly and accommodating.
Food menu slightly changed and even better. My fave is the minced Angus beef. Now they put it into a bowl instead of plate with a better portion of rice. Drink menu changed too, and sadly my favourite drink "Mt Agung" something has been removed. Staff is always attentive and friendly.
We were a table of 8 with some tricky dietary requests. Awesome waiter put together a wonderful menu that meant everyone had a great meal. Delicious food and more than we could finish! Particularly recommend the kung pao cauliflower.

The food in this place is ridiculously good! The staff are friendly and just like the food, the atmosphere is great whether you're there early in the morning for breakfast or later in the evening for dinner. A clear stand out in the food hub that is "Sydney Road Brunswick"....
This place can be hit & miss (I guess depending on the latest chef & waiters). However, when it's good, it is excellent. Novel & exciting. I've been going since they 1st opened & will always return even after a bad experience b/c I know that it always picks up again.
A place I have avoided mostly because it always looked dodgy and dark from the outside but I'm glad I entered! Two thumbs up for the Duck Spring Rolls and the Soft shell crab! It was out of the world and a wow all across! Though, you do pay what you get.
Its been a while since I have been back. The menu was limited, and many of the dishes I used to enjoy were no longer on the menu. It was overpriced for what they were offering, we did not stay and have dinner so we left (the waiter didnt seem to care).
Poor service from the employees. I saw them humiliating a delivery man at the restaurant. That was horrible.

Service was average, Beef rendang was like rubber. With so many other great places in the area, I probably won't go back. For a similar experience, you could just microwave a stir fry from the freezer section for double the time. Way cheaper.
I personally have high standard for Asian food, so I won’t go back and don’t recommend. The presentation of the dishes was quite awful. The salt and pepper squid tasted bland, squid wasn’t fresh. Roti wasn’t the authentic one. The curry
I had a reservation and was asked to wait at the bar for someone to take me to my table. Staff came and went and I asked if my table was ready - the place was almost empty! What was going on? Am I being ignored? When I ask again what's

They accommodated a big group on short notice and were so kind about it. All our food came out amazing except one and they were really good about changing that. Service was amazing as always. A regular favourite for Asian fusion.
Favourite little go-to-joint for amazing Asian fusion fare. Their bar selection is good and their coffee is very good as well. Even when they are crazy busy it is easy to hold conversations with your friends which is a mega plus.
A favourite for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try the breakfast roti or the chicken curry or soft shell crab for later in the day. Staff friendly and helpful. Atmosphere funky. Cocktails are fun too - try the plum infused whisky.
Delicious food, fast service. Had the Viet vermicelli salad with lemon grass beef and spring rolls, so fresh and tasty. Partner had the goat curry which was melt in your mouth delicious. Highly recommended checking them out!!
The menu was so good that I have to go back again so I can try more dishes. Good pricing, good service. The restaurant was very busy so book ahead if you can (we were lucky enough to be able to be seated without a booking)

Great South East Asian fusion restaurant, that serves up dishes with flavours that pack an punch <3 Their quality has been consistently amazing. The beef rendang has always been my go-to, and they never disappoint.
It was the second time I came here and I was not disappointed! They have a diverse menu, very good dishes and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend the place if you like revisited south East Asian flavours.
Think this place use to be better. The quality of their main meals has changed over time and not as great unfortunately. Dumplings are still great though!

Good food, but a bit on the pricey side. The flavours are nice and the general atmosphere is good for a dinner and hangout. I quite liked the mushroom with Thai basil with fried wontons combo as an appetiser
Great modern Asian fusion food. Friendly and helpful staff. Prices fairly reasonable. Does get quite busy on Friday and Saturday nights so you might have to wait for a table if you don't make a reservation.
Went there for our breakfast on Saturday morning. Coffees were lovely, but my partner said it's not hot enough. The food are great and generous size. So the price is reasonable. The service was also great.
The best food in town. Pork belly to beat all pork bellies. Slaw was very large and would have liked larger pork belly. But for it's price and what you got, it was delicious and well worth it.
We went there for a dinner date. Had not booked a table but were able to find a table in next 5 minutes. Really amazing food & great staff. Will definitely visit this place soon.
Great food, excellent customer service. Food arrived really quick and were all of great portions. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back for more.
Faultless everytime I've been. Staff work hard and food is fabulous. Although lighting could be upped a bit to read the menu. Love it though. My favourite in Sydney Rd.
The food is average and somewhat overpriced. The music is annoying and verging in being too loud for a comfortable conversation. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
really really good Thai! we did not have a Res and got seated on Saturday night for four people. great service and the food again was amazing. will return. thanks!
Great Vietnamese food. I highly recommend the Hanoi doing rolls and the Sizzling Beef Little bit pricey but worth it Even better now they have a byo wine option.
Have been coming here for more than 9 years. Consistently excellent with friendly staff. Great breakfasts lunch dinner and cocktails Reasonable prices good value
$20 evening special with the pork belly was really nice. Fix the front door that does not close (super annoying in winter with the cold air) and you get 5 stars.
