The stock is pretty comprehensive and the prices reasonable. That aside, I have been made to feel very uncomfortable on each of my visits to the shop. Before I deep dive into matters far more important than new customer service: many products have no price reflected on shelves or in fridges, meaning I had to ask repeatedly at the counter about prices. None of the very young shop-floor assistants knew the answers, nor about stock levels. In fact, it is not easy to discern whether one of them is a staff member or a customer. There may be a lot of them, but very few offer assistance, let alone are able to answer questions. Before visiting the shop, I phoned. The person who finally answered, spoke to me with a ‘too cool for school’ attitude, as if she was doing me a favour answering the call and my questions. I decided to give her and the shop the benefit of the doubt (maybe she just has a poor phone manner and/or is untrained). When I visited the store, as a courtesy and because I’ve recently moved from JHB, where such a greeting is standard, I asked the cashier (same person as on phone) how she was. ‘Surviving,’ or ‘Been better’ are along the lines of how she responded. (I don’t remember her precise words.) While I always mean it when I ask someone how they are, your cashier felt comfortable to share how she felt but couldn’t be bothered to return the question. But that’s not important: it’s her attitude that offends. After my payment, she called me ‘Hun’. Combined with her general attitude on and off the phone, and the fact that I am at least double her age, ‘Hun’ was not appropriate. All of that aside, and FAR more importantly from my perspective, I’d like please for ‘Tony’ or whomever the proprietor is, to explain why all of the staff I’ve encountered are white. Based on their attitudes and lack of knowledge, they have clearly not been employed due to their being the best candidates for the job. Today I engaged with one of the more approachable staff and asked about the predominance of (young, privileged, entitled) people. Their response was what they’ve wondered the same. They felt the need to assure me that there is a ‘coloured guy’ who also works there. I am white, myself, just to be clear. And have extensive experience running a wine shop, myself. If your staff were informed and friendly, I may not be raising this so-called race card. However, given that your current staff are neither, and have an air that suggests that they neither need nor want to be there, and that customers should feel grateful to be in their presence, I so have to ask the question and query the logic. I hope it is clear I am genuinely wanting to engage; not to be rude. I’d appreciate a proper dialogue, but trolling (by anyone out there won’t be tolerated).
Extremely offended today. The weather is looking off and cold and drizzling now so im wearing my top with woody. When i went inside, one of the cashiers came up to me and said he was told to ask me to remove my woody. I'm a female. I mean you dont ask a female in winter to remove something on her head. There is no way they going to ask a older or bigger person to do the same. I'm very disappointed. Never again will i go there. I mean 2 people in the shop was wearing something on their head and wasnt approached.its winter and supa cold now. Really hope its not because im dark brown. But if the shop is reading this. Never approach a female again in winter.
I walked into this store once and I do not intend on going back, I am pretty sure that the manager, whose name I believe is Jean was Beyond Drunk and could barely articulate her words. How are the owners okay with such a lackluster Manager . The way she talks to staff, absolutely disgusting. Something seriously needs to change at that store with management and the way it is run ,because whatever is going on behind closed doors is going to the death of this store. And don't even get me started with the owner Tony, what a disappointing experience.
Quite the remarkable little liquor store! They carry a very interesting range of liquor bespoke to the Western Cape which makes it quite an interesting visit. Hopefully soon this will be the hub for Glitz dry Gin Shake to shimmer.
