It was Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend, my wife’s car had broken down in a parking lot in Chicago, and we could not find any dealerships in the area open or any sign of a mechanic to help get our Chrysler Van started. The call to help AAA resulted in a tow to what they said would be the closest approved repair facility in the area. The only information she was given was it’s at Wells Auto on Wells street. First thing Monday morning, the research began to find the car, get it fixed, and get the family back home to Wisconsin. Of course, Monday of Memorial day found absolutely no one at any dealership or repair facilities. After a little bit of research, I found Wells Auto Service online, while no one was available to talk. I sent an e-mail to the address on the website and believe it or not, within about 15 minutes on Memorial day I was on the phone with Frank, the owner. He was very reassuring, professional, and understanding of the situation. Since it was a Holiday, there was not much he could do right then. But he did explain what was going to happen first thing Tuesday morning, what the problem could be, and how he was going to go to get it fixed. He followed up with a call early Tuesday morning when he arrived at the shop and by noon the van was fixed, tested, checked and rechecked and the family was heading home. He even called later in the day to make sure everyone made it safe and sound. Frank, Thank you for your help; it was greatly appreciated, you and your team did an excellent job. We would go back to Wells Auto on Wells Street in a heartbeat.

I had my 2019 Cadillac CTS towed today 11/09/2021 at 9:15am by Wells Automotive. This tow was requested by my insurance company(Geico)Road Side Assistance Program. My insurance company sent Wells Automotive to tow my car to the tire shop. There was nothing wrong with my car when Wells Automotive picked it up besides a flat tire. When my car arrived at the tire shop, my Cadillac emblem was gone off the front, my grill around the Cadillac emblem was scratched up, and a portion of my bumper was torn off by the cable cord of the tow truck. I did not notice this until the tow truck had left. When I tried calling the driver 5 times he never answered his phone again. Just previously before the tow when I called him he answered. I think he knew why I was calling. To complain about him destroying my car. I should have inspected my car before he left but I did not think that someone who was sent to help me would be the one to damage my car. I called the company to complain, and the person that answered hung up on me. I eventually called Geico to lodge a complaint and claim against them. Now in hindsight I should have checked everything because the tow truck driver was inexperienced. He did not even know how to take the car down from the towing bed. It took him upwards of 10 minutes to figure out that it was still connected to the towing bed with the hook. Wells Automotive immediately started on defense that the car was like that when they picked it up. I keep my vehicle well maintained and I know my vehicle was intact before it was placed on that tow truck.

My husband’s car broke down unexpectedly & I had my insurance help with roadside. They informed me via text message they had assigned this company to us. Estimated time was 45-60. I then got a phone call from a rep in the main office (she was super nice) to tell me that the address needed to be updated and that the driver would be calling me when he was 5-10 minutes away. I made sure to ask again that the driver would be calling prior to arrival and she said yes. My husband and I with my 11 month old baby and my son went to get some food from McDonald’s around the corner of the location the car broke down. The driver called and he said he was there I told him we would be there shortly 5-10 min( I have to get the kids back ready into my car) he said if I could hurry up I told him we would be there shortly and he said he need my location. How was I supposed to know what street I’m on when I’m not from the area? I repeated I was just a few blocks away at McDonald’s and he said he needed an exact location if not he was going to leave. I have to deal with a messed up car, kids hungry and crying, waiting long period of time until we were assigned to the company all for the Jeff man(caller if) threaten me that he was leaving if I didn’t give him an exact location of where I was. So I told him it was fine and he could leave. Sorry I couldn’t tell you what street I was on. And sorry you’re not sympathetic, caring or professional about your interaction with people. If you need a tow don’t waste your time dealing with them. Not professional at all.

Was assigned to them through State Farm to come fix a flat on Lake Shore Drive, between Belmont and Fullerton. Through a misunderstanding, they didn't get that I was on Lake Shore Drive proper, not the small side street also called Lake Shore Drive. That part's not their fault - State Farm couldn't accurately record my location. But the issue is that even after I called them to clarify where I was and after the dispatcher said he would tell the driver that I was on LSD/41, half an hour after dispatch, the driver called me to say he was there and asked where I was. Turns out he was on the side street Lake Shore Drive, not LSD/41. It was clear he hadn't gotten the message I was on LSD and he told me AT THAT POINT that they don't service highways so he'd have to call in to the office. I said sure, go ahead. And I waited 10 minutes, never received a call back to confirm that he wasn't coming and had to call back in myself to hear that he was right, they don't service highways. Why didn't anyone tell me that when I called to clarify my location the first time? And why didn't anyone call me after he called back in? Instead I wasted 45 minutes in the cold and dark, scared and trying to change the tire myself, on Lake Shore Drive during rush hour, when I could have called the company I ended up using (Chicago 24 Hour Towing) and been on my way. A little communication could have gone a long way in this situation.

Needed a tow, arranged via Geico. I called as soon as they were assigned to make sure they could do it. My car was stuck in the garage accessible only through an alley that of course has not been cleared of snow and ice by the city. The dispatcher who answered had an attitude. They said they would send someone out despite telling me that they don’t enter alleys because they’re afraid of getting stuck themselves. The ETA passes and I’m contacted by Geico 1.5hrs after the request. Apparently they made it to my location, tried contacting me, but after looking at the alley, decided they were not capable of completing the job. They tried calling ONCE from an out of state number. Who the fluff answers an unknown number? My phone doesn’t even ring for an unknown number the first time. And what business gives up after one call? What CHICAGO based towing service gives up over a little snow? To be clear, my PRIUS can handle what was left in the alley. Even in its hampered state. Thank goodness Geico followed up and thank goodness for professionals that get the job fluffing done. I was able to arrange another tow with CRV Towing. They are wonderful! Friendly, courteous, and job completed quickly with ZERO issues.

Since I purchased my truck from Carmax back in June of 2019, I have been coming here to get her serviced. Frank and his guys have been nothing but honest and VERY quick work, I might add. Yesterday for service, I purchased some aftermarket valve stem covers that have "FJ Cruiser" on them. I asked Frank if they could install (I was there to have have my tires rotated, etc,.). He asked to see them and said, "Absolutely not"!..... He explained to be a major metal conflict the stems would have with the antenna of the valve stem/tire pressure sensors.... They would cause stems to seize causing potential damage to the pressure sensor and its housing, thus costing a lot of $$$ in the future due to road salt and dis-similar metals. It makes sense and I never even thought about that. I "assumed" the stem covers were plastic like the originals are!. NOPE!!!... So needless to say, I pocketed those. This is YET ANOTHER reason I love their honesty. He could have easily said, "Okay, no problem", knowing dam@# well I would be bringing my truck back for extensive and expensive service!!!.. That to me is A+++ SERVICE. God-willing, I will be back!. Gone........ -JV.

My insurance company created an emergency pick up ticket (I was in a motorcycle accident and my bike was on the sidewalk by Loyola) and Wells accepted it. I never received a call when the bike was supposed to be picked up or to confirm drop off, which I thought was weird. When I call, around 7pm, I'm redirected to the after hours operator who tells me they don't have access into the main system so I'll have to call back tomorrow. The next morning I call and ask about the status of my motorcycle. "We don't tow motorcycles" I'm told flatly. So why did you accept the pickup? "We don't tow motorcycles" is repeated. Now I'm frustrated and ask to tell me the status of ticket number XXX. "That was cancelled yesterday". Great, thanks for all your help. I had to spend 3 hours to go check that the motorcycle was still there and arrange another company to come pick it up. So in summary: Wells towing cancelled my pick up, never bothered to let me know so I could make other arrangements, and left my motorcycle on a sidewalk overnight to be ticketed or impounded. Use another company if you're looking for basic human decency and an actual tow.

I had a flat in the city and waited an hour and a half for the repairman to come and change my flat. he did not change my flat and filled my VERY FLAT tire with air and said i was fine to drive 40 mins back home. 20 min into my drive my tire was flat again in the middle of the highway, almost got into an accident and i had to call another tow service who was quicker, explained what was going on and MUCH more reliable than the technician i got from wells. I actually got my tire changed even though the technician from wells LIED and said my spare tire couldn't hold air. because of this incident, i had to shell out a huge amount of money the next day to replace all four tires. i called Wells automotive the next business day and the manager/boss was really rude on the phone and was not sympathetic that his pathetic and unprofessional driver put me in danger on the road because he couldn't do his job correctly. DO NOT CALL THIS PLACE BECAUSE THEY WILL LIE ABOUT THE SITUATION AND REFUSE TO GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK. they are not reliable and could potentially put your life at risk with their horrible service.

Towing showed up an hour after their guaranteed one hour arrival time because of a shift change at 3 o'clock. I would caution future users about needing towing around this time as it will most likely be delayed. When the driver arrived he did not say "hi", and was barely personable. To add on to the matter he didn't know how to drive a stick shift so I had to move my car into alignment with the vehicle myself. Personally, I expect people in the towing business to have that kind of knowledge. While the driver was driving to the repair shop he ran a red light, and seemed to forget I was trying to follow him there and almost lost me in traffic. Once we arrived at the repair shop (not Wells Automotive) the driver unloaded the car quietly, sort of pointed with a grunt to the office of the place, and began leaving. He almost left before coming by and giving me a handshake and leaving. Perhaps the only attempt at decent human interaction. This was a pretty bad experience. I'm glad my car got towed, but the long wait and quality of their tow truck drivers is embarrassing. Don't recommend.

If I could rate this business less than a 1 star I would. I contacted them around 2pm through my insurance company for a tow less than a mile away. I was quoted 90 min service time. The driver, Juan, did not contact me until almost 2.5 hours later, claiming he could not find my car and had been circling multiple times. I gave him specific instructions where the car was, an address and a cross section. He contacted me again 30 minutes later that he still could not find the car, I again specified and said to please call me if he still could not find it. He later marked the tow service complete. I hasn’t heard from the auto body shop it was going to so I called Wells towing and they told me that Juan never picked up the car because “it was gone” and that the city must have towed it. After frantic calling to 311, city of Chicago etc I took a $25 Uber to where my car had been parked and low and behold it was still there !! Truly ABSURD, you pride yourself on excellence but have abysmal customer service in someone’s time of need? Find LITERALLY anyone else to use in the city people!!!

Hit a pothole on Lake Shore Drive just north of Addison. Blew out my tire and bent my wheel (Grrrr, Chicago roads.) Called State Farm roadside assistance and they contracted Wells Automotive which sent a flatbed tow truck. It arrived in about an hour which I thought was pretty good at the height of rush hour. The driver was professional, courteous and efficient. My car is a little rare and getting parts isn't always easy. Frank in the service department gave great guidance on my options and got everything straightened out in a couple of days. He also inspected the car and gave me tips on a couple of items to keep an eye on (did not try to upsell me.) Finally, he aligned the car and it's now driving like new. I didn't comparison shop the quote but I thought it was fair and, in my experience, probably considerably less than a dealer would charge. I will definitely be back for maintenance or should I ever need any other repair work. A couple of friends had told me that Wells does good work. Now I can personally confirm it. Thank you, Wells Automotive!

This company was hired through my insurance company. We were given a 75 minute window for the tow truck to arrive. The business calls my cell a hour later and wants to confirm where the vehicle is located and the address that it will be going to. Before ending the call, the dispatch has the nerve to ask why I'm having the vehicle towed to the location that I provided (which is none of their concern) but it was where our mechanic is located. We are then told that it would be another 60-90 minutes before the tow truck would arrive with no explanation. He even told me that he couldn't even confirm or guarantee that they would be there at that time. I was furious upon hearing this information and I commented on how ridiculous this situation was becoming. The dispatcher then promptly gave me an attitude and said you should call your insurance company and that was that. Well I did and they cancelled my service with this provider and found me someone that got to me within 30 minutes. This place is a joke and I would recommend that no one use them!

I had the worst experience ever with this company! I called for a tow. I received a confirmation email stating the driver would be there in a hour. 45 min later I received a call from the driver saying he’s headed my way, another hour pass I called to see when could I expect the driver. I was sent to voicemail 6 times. I finally got in touch with the driver who was very rude and unprofessional stating he’s not coming because he got off work 15 min after he told me he was on his way! When asked why he didn’t notify me, his exact words was I don’t have to tell you $hit! Contact your insurance provider called me a &itch then hung up on me right after letting me know he’s grown and he knows my name and address! I contacted my roadside assistance who contacted wells ld automotive they were rude to her as well and hung up on roadside assistance! I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone! Especially if you’re using roadside assistance! I’ve read reviews and mostly all says the employees and owner are very rude and unprofessional!

Worst customer service ever. Female dispatcher should not be working there. Battery died and needed a jump. This was the provider State Farm initially tried to send. When calling for updates, dispatcher was condescending and rude. She never followed up after saying she would. 60-70 minutes eta turned to 90 then two hours. Delay was attributed to a driver that was pulled over by police but if you don’t feel you can fulfill the work order in a timely manner give a realistic window so people can plan accordingly. Had I known it was going to be over a 3 hour wait I would have State Farm request for another provider. Each time she picked up she immediately put me on hold after recognizing my voice. One time she literally picked up and started with “I don’t care”. Finally after supposedly telling insurance another 15 minutes, they revised to 50 minutes. It’s below 20 outside and the customer doesn’t have heat. No empathy whatsoever. New service provider came within and hour and driver called half way to provide an eta.

While on my way to work my 2017 Chevy Equinox suddenly shut down with the panel indicating low oil pressure stop running engine. I had the vehicle towed to Wells Auto after a good friend informed me that Wells Auto does good work. I was later contacted by the owner Frank who told me some bad news, that my rear oil seal was damaged and oil just pours out of the engine and that it would be an expensive repair. Good thing I had an extended warranty because my engine was also damaged. I started freaking out and Frank remained calmed and positive throughout the hold process. Frank kept my nerves at ease and handled everything that needed to be reported and noted for my warranty insurer. The work was approved to replace and install another engine in my car during the whole time I was in a rental car for 2-3 weeks until the job was completed. I was worried how my car would perform. My car performs excellently and I highly recommend Wells Auto, they did an excellent job on my Equinox this was no easy task to perform.

0 stars if I could. We called this place to jumpstart our car and they said it would take 45 minutes to get there. After an hour and twenty we call them and ask them if they’re still sending the tow truck. We then get a call from the guy who’s actually driving the tow truck saying he’s here and it’s the complete wrong address, far from where we are. So we call the original guy back and tell him he messed up and he tries to blame it on us for giving him the wrong address. (Meanwhile, the address is 100% correct on the invoice that was sent to us after the original phone call, so it was 100% their fault for delaying the wrong address to their worker). My boyfriend then asks if we could get some sort of compensation because even if the tow truck does come we’d then be waiting two hours for their mistake. The guy keeps blaming us and then finally agrees to give us a refund and just hangs up. We had no idea if the tow truck was actually coming so we just went home. WORST PLACE EVER.

I just had the best experience with Sal at Wells Automotive Service and can't recommend Wells enough! I called our insurance company to arrange roadside assistance and before I even got off the phone with them, Wells called to arrange the tow. Sal arrived less than 15 minutes later with a great smile, a fantastic attitude and a firm handshake which was so welcome in the midst of my car troubles. He was incredibly kind, personable and professional, instilling confidence and making the process so easy. To top it all off, when my son came out to see our car gently loaded onto the tow truck, Sal gave him the sweetest wave and a honk when he was driving off. Just got a text with a picture of my car expertly delivered to the shop. I so rarely am compelled to write a review but it's not easy to be in the service business these days so when the service is so well above and beyond expectation, as it was with Wells Automotive Service, it deserves a shout out. Thank you, Sal!

One of my customers had a vehicle brought to me for service using this tow company. Driver was VERY unprofessional, rude and started yelling in the front lot in front of my customers. He was upset that I wanted him to put the car in a spot, rather than drop it in the middle of the parking lot. After continued excuses as to why it could not be done, I told him to come to the front and I would clear him a spot on the side to back into and drop the vehicle. He backed all the way around the building rather than using the entrance and still had a temper tantrum about where the car needed to go. I told him just to drop it where it was and I would get it moved. Thankfully we do not use this company ever, and I would hope someone would speak to this particular driver and his poor attitude. If anyone ever represented me in such a way, it wouldn't be for very long. Would not even consider this company for any towing needs!

This review is for Charles the tow truck driver for Wells. He met me within 15mins of my call to State Farm's emergency road service. I thought the alternator died and I needed a tow. Charles decided to jump my car before towing and it started right up. He then offered some insight as to what the issue might be (i.e. fuel injector, spark plug), and all of it made sense based on what I had read. Still, I think the most generous thing he did was to offer to jump my car again if it died shortly after leaving (while I was in the neighborhood). I was honestly dreading having to call emergency road service again to set up another jump if it died 2 blocks away, and he made me feel at ease. Charles is a stand up employee who seems to go above and beyond for those who are stranded. If I ever need a tow again, I will be calling Wells to send Charles out because he understands what good customer serviceis all about!

I pulled into the parking garage at Prentice Hospital where my husband is having surgery today only to realize when i got out that my tire was almost completely flat. I am not from Illinois and being in this very busy area with such a serious occasion going on of course a flat tire just had to be the cherry on top. I called progressive insurance to have them send out roadside help and they said it would be about an hour and a half for someone to come which was fine. The service man called upon arrival to find out how to get to me. I had no clear instructions as I was so lost myself but he was very calm and reassuring that everything would be ok. He was very quick and got the job done right and fast. He was even nice to a very rude lady who had an issue with him being parked behind her (he had no other choice and was as out of the way as he could possibly be). Excellent service, I would highly recommend.

What a nightmare. This was the closest company my insurance recommended to me to get my battery jumped and replaced in a short amount of time because I was trying to head to work. The technician arrived, replaced my battery, and I was quoted $210 for the service over the phone. Outrageous price. Then they called the technician and had him replace the battery he had already installed with the correct battery. THEIR mistake. Quoted me $244 for the battery my car needed. Rightly frustrated, I demanded to know the details of their price breakdown, and the rep I spoke to cut me off and said "Look, do you want me to perform the service or not?" How rude. Only saving grace was their technician who was apologetic and told me "You should have cussed them out for this. I would have." He was great. He was there within 15 minutes. What a ripoff. Don't use this company. Give that tech a raise though.

  • Donica Johnson

What a horrific towing service. My roadside assistance let me know a tow truck was coming in fifty minutes. After the fifty minutes roadside called me to say the tow was not coming because the driver took a police call instead. I said that sounds suspicious and convenient. I spoke with the supervisor from my roadside assistance company who called Wells Automotive Dispatch and was told my tow truck was cancelled because my tow destination was outside their towing area. I'm not sure why this company would initially take the job, waste fifty minutes, and then lie about the reason for not providing a tow coverage? I expressed to my roadside assistance company that maybe they shouldn't work with this company if this is how they treat their customers. I'm glad that all calls are recorded because if anything were to happen roadside assistance and Wells Automitive are liable.

This establishment offers towing which isn’t listed above. I found this ironic when my insurance company provided them to me for my service. I literally needed a tow truck for a two minute ride down the street to a repair shop. They provided me with an estimated time of 45 minutes to a hour at 1pm for a pick up. It is now 3:34 pm & im still waiting for a tow truck. Don’t offer a estimated time if it’s not going to be accurate. Also don’t lie and say they are five minutes away when I call for an update on a eta. They was better off just saying the shift has changed and they don’t have an estimated time for completion of my service. If I could give them no stars I would. I understand this is a business and stuff happens. But the first thing you do in business is have good communication with your consumer so they can continue to use you for service.

MINI Owners good news ALERT! Mini Chicago moved to Glencoe. I always used the dealer service and when they moved I decided to use local shops instead. My first shop turned out to be a bad choice. Then, needing some emergency service, I found Wells Automotive Service! These guys are great. They not only are cheaper than MINI, and they use MINI certified parts, they fixed the problems created by the other shop who did a bad job and didn't use MINI parts. If you want fast, efficient and friendly service at a good price, these guys are the ones to get the job done. All the staff are friendly and helpful, especially, Frank, another Frank and Frank's son. It is the little things in life that keep you happy. Knowing my car is in order is one of those things. Thanks guys for a better experience than I could have hoped for.

Writing this review to sing the praises of Frank at Wells Automotive. What a relief to go to a mechanic shop and get an honest opinion and assessment on my vehicle. After the tow truck dropped my vehicle off from being serviced at a different shop Frank discovered right away that the oil was not put back in my engine after paying for an oil change. The whole engine was destroyed! Frank took pictures for me and documented everything. He even contacted the location where this happened to help me negotiate for them to take care of the issue. Dealing with all of this would’ve been my worst nightmare and Frank was nothing but respectful, courteous and a fantastic communicator through the entire process. I will absolutely be bringing my car to see Frank and recommend him to anyone else to as well!

State Farm sent them to jump start my car, I followed their suggestion to have them replace both main and backup batteries, one hour later I found the engine light was on, I drove in for them to check, hours later, they told me battery cables needed to replace, the part cost more than $500, I just paid them more than $800 to replace batteries in the morning, so I insisted to have my car back to think about it overnight, they got mad, left my car on the street with no enough battery to start the engine, and refused to jump start my car, I called State Farm, State Farm sent them to jump start since my car was outside their shop, they never showed up. Eventually someone else jumped start our car, we drove to another place to fix, it was bad water pump, not bad cable that they told me.

I was stuck on the side of the road downtown Chicago yesterday at Grand and Franklin. My car wouldn’t start. A fantastic young man drove by and gave me a jump. He further explained that I needed a new battery and showed my husband and I why. Turns out he is a battery tech at Wells, Automotive! He set a time to come to our address the next day with a new battery, install it and haul the old one away. I can’t believe my luck and the timing! Robert Cole was absolutely amazing, kind and so professional. Furthermore, when I called the business to pay for the battery, the young lady on the phone was equally as spectacular. What a wonderful and efficiently run business! I fully recommend this company and this particular service! Ask for Robert Cole. You will not be disappointed!

After waiting 2 1/2 hours for two other service providers I called to make sure this company would pick up and a person was on their way. As you can imagine I was pretty upset and my tone was unpleasant. The lady answer the phone was very informative and after inquiring my information informed me that they’re just received my request and a service provided would be with me as soon as possible. She remained professional as did the service provide, as well as quick and efficient, the wait wasn’t a full hour and I could see him traveling on the update the entire time as well as him calling to get my exact whereabouts as he got closer. I want to thank them both so I gave a call back and did so and she was very understanding and not holding it against my earlier attitude.

I just had an amazing experience at Wells Automotive. I had an oil change done at Oil Express on Western and they had used the wrong oil filter. My car was slowly leaking oil as a result. Two days later, I found myself stranded on the side of the road with no oil or oil pressure. I called my insurance and they had a tow truck from Wells Automotive pick me up. The driver was super friendly and helpful. He towed my car to Wells Automotive where everyone was extremely friendly and helpful as well. They diagnosed that the oil filter was the issue and replaced it and refilled my oil within 20 minutes and had me on my way. Great service, great people, amazing experience. I will definitely be back to Wells Automotive to have service done to my vehicle in the future.

THEY ARE FANTASTIC! I have a 2006 Audi which I am the original owner. I have only had the car serviced at Audi dealerships in the past. Recently, my car died and I had to have it towed. Audi couldn't get me in so on the recommendation of a friend, I had the car taken to Wells Automotive. They inspected the care quickly and generated a report of the full inspection. The owner of the company called me and went over the inspection. He spent 30 minutes on the phone with me regarding the repairs I needed and his recommendation. He did NOT try to upsell anything and in fact discouraged me from making certain repairs. I couldn't have been happier with their service and honesty. I would recommend Wells Auto to anyone that has German cars.

  • Solomon Humphries

Frank was nice and accommodating, but overall I don't believe I got great service. I came in because my anti skid/vehicle Dynamics lights were flashing. According to them this was because I needed my rear brake lights replaced. $16 + 2 hours of labor later, I don't believe this was necessary to fix the problem. They also said I needed a quart of oil added (although I just had an oil change a month ago). Although I've been using only full synthetic oil, they added a quart of conventional oil, then tried to tell me it was a synthetic blend. Once again this was a 2+ hour labor charge. It cost more for the one quart, than my last 8 quart oil change. For the prices I was charged vs what was done I don't think I'd take my car back.

I was moving away from Chicago, had packed up my car and was ready to start my 9 hour drive and the car wouldn't start. Called several places, all that were going to take hours or charge me $300+. I called Wells Automotive, and they were AMAZING. They sent someone to me within 20 minutes. Their battery technician, Robert, was fantastic. He was professional, knowledgeable and friendly, which helped reduce my high stress in the situation. Unfortunately my battery had died, but Robert was able to replace on the spot, and within half an hour, I was on the road for my move. Was very happy with the service overall, and very much would recommend Robert specifically.

I had multiple repairs done on my car, and the car drives better than ever. They are very thorough and meticulous in their work. Showed me all the damaged parts and explained everything. Went to Midas, close to downtown Chicago, and was told that I needed a radiator fan replaced and they didn’t even bother to check for the cause of the coolant leak, as I had not a drop left and the car was overheating. Decided to seek a second opinion, and was told at Wells auto that the oil filter housing was damaged and needed replacing. There was nothing wrong with the radiator fan. I trust these guys wholeheartedly and that everything will be done correctly and properly.

We used their service/Wildcat Roadside Towing Corp.... I'm still unsure who is who? The tech who came out to help us was great and got us up and running. HOWEVER.... they charged my card and I asked for a emailed receipt, which I never received. I need this to submit to my insurance co. AND THEN... the next day I get a text from my cc saying I was charged again so I called. They "billed the wrong account on their end" That is fine and dandy but you do not bill a client this sum of money without notifying them, what if it had over drafted my account or something? A simple telephone call. I still have yet to get a receipt for the refund which I asked for.

  • Constantin Fasolt

I just took our 2000 Volvo to Wells Automotive Service for the first time. They did a major repair (replace unbelievably worn out wheel bearings) and fixed several other problems that had escaped the service department of the dealership where I had taken our car for the last 15 years or more. I couldn’t have been more impressed. Frank was fast, efficient, and thoroughly professional. This will be my go to place in the future. I just love watching people doing something at which they are really very good. From what I could see, they aren’t just very good at what they are doing. They are masterful.

  • Samantha DeBerry

Car would not start in the awful 90+ degree day. My dealership recommended calling Wells Towing as they have a mobile battery service. I was pleasantly surprised with the rate at which they answered, assisted, and had my car back up in running. The call center was pleasant, polite, and understanding as well as worked quickly to get someone over to me while I was stranded in the heat. The technician was quick and removing and reinstalling a new battery right there without requiring a tow to my dealership. I would definitely use them again! Bravo Wells Automotive!

  • Alise Lewis

This place was recommended by a coworker of mine so I decided to give them a try. After speaking with Frank on the phone and meeting him in person I was convinced that I could trust to leave my car there. Frank took care of making sure my claim was processed correctly and Miguel made sure I was informed every step of the process. Frank and Miguel made my experience a breeze.. I’m definitely bringing my girl back for regular maintenance and upkeep and have definitely referred this shop to my friends. Thank you sooooo much.. It’s greatly appreciated.

  • Trucker Nick

I found these guys to be great. After talking with Frank and Frank for only a few minutes, I felt like I'd been taking my car there for years. They are honest, and do a quick and quality job. They tell you what your car needs to have done now, and what will need to be done in the near future. They don't try to pressure you into doing everything at once just to make a buck. They'll let you know what can wait till further down the road. I will definitely continue to bring my car there for not only repairs, but also just routine maintenance.

  • Adriann Weilert

I discovered Wells Automotive by chance a couple months ago when my insurance company sent them to me for a tow. Since then, I've visited several times for a handful of issues and I can confidently say that they are the best. Frank and the guys are honest, thoughtful, and personable and they really take the time to get to know their customers. Their prices are fair and they don't push work that you don't need. The turnaround time is also amazing! If you need work done on your car in the Chicago area, don't hesitate to head to Wells.

  • Harrison Rosenberg

The belt for my alternator gave out about 100 yards shy of turning onto Lake Shore Drive and when I looked up shops Wells was the first to pop up. They were very clear communicators and all the times and prices I was quoted were upfront and accurate. The tow despite the super busy traffic conditions was efficient as were the services once I was at the shop. They put in extra legwork to get a part in despite it being a later Friday afternoon. They took into account that we were out of towners and that we were particularly in a pinch.

  • Johno

Stay away from this company! If I can give negative stars I would. I have Ford Roadside service and they had dispatched this company. The ETA was 90 min out. Nobody ever showed up. They told Ford they were there and completed the service. Bunch of LIARS. I even called them directly and they said wait another 30 minutes. I called Ford Roadside I had to wait another 2 hours until another company was dispatched. Wells should not have any contracts with anyone. I will be filing a complaint with the States Attorneys office on Monday.

  • Akshay John

Please do not do business with this establishment. AT ALL COSTS. Extremely unprofessional and rude service. My brother got in a accident, and the tow truck driver was extremely rude, asked him to move and step away like he had a “disease” and drove off with his keys. When I called the office, a worker by the name of “Sonya” who said she was an intern, was so rude and dismissive of my problems, that instead of understanding and being a little compassionate she started screaming at me on the phone. PLEASE DONT EVER BE LIKE THIS.

  • Andrea Seeley

I called Geico for roadside assistance today and they sent Wells Automotive service. Let me tell you the truck driver was so rude to me on the phone I cancelled the tow. Then someone from the office calls me to tell me that her driver didn’t want to tow me. I told her it was no big deal and she goes in to this long defensive rant about how I’m the rude one. When I tried to explain my frustration she hung up on me. NEVER use Wells Automotive Service. I would rather push my car then have one of their drivers come near me.

  • Kemario Cross

My car wouldn't crank so I called the closest repair shop (literally 2 blocks away) which happened to be Wells Automotive. I was told that I could receive a battery service call for $100 and that charge could be applied to the purchase of a battery if need be. The service guy determined that it may be the starter causing the issue. I decided the following day that I wanted the battery installed but the Service manager Mike withdrew the offer of having the $100 applied to the purchase/installation of the battery

  • Katie Dincolo

Dropped my newly purchased used car off without an appointment and they were able to attend to it right away. Asked for a general inspection/overview of the car to see if everything checked out from what the dealer told me. Even though I didn't receive good news about the car they shot me straight and went over every detail of the report they gave me. Frank (Owner) was very thorough, quick, knowledgeable and didn't charge me a dime. As long as I live in Chicago I will only go to Wells Auto moving forward.

  • Joan Vallejo

I was going to use their services to tow my vehicle. They did not contact me that they wouldn't come anymore. I called them and asked for an update on the tow truck but only to be told they're not coming and are refunding me my money. They said I was out of there area, which I understand but they made zero communication. They wasted my whole day. I called way in advance for the tow truck. They didn't realize there mistake until I had to call them. Stay away from this unprofessional business.

  • Thomas Sharkey

I had a great experience with Wells Automotive this morning! I needed a flat tire repaired and my insurance company sent Wells. Ronald arrived very quickly! It turned out that my insurance company hadn't told Wells exactly what I needed for my flat to be fixed. Ronald didn't hesitate to go back to the shop and quickly returned. He then fixed the flat in no time! Thanks to Ronald's unhesitating actions (and great attitude) my day was saved! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wells Automotive.

  • Dhiya Elmasri

This place is top notch. The owner, Frank, is really a professional and takes pride in the work his team does. I have taken everything here from my F150, to my 89 Camaro, to my wife's Civic - he shoots it straight every time. If it ain't worth fixing he will tell you. They do not cut corners, and safety is their number one concern. The only negative was an unprofessionally rude shop manager who is now fired!!! Love Wells and everything Frank's team does for my vehicles.

  • Mary Von Goeben

Went in with problems with an older car. The owner and everyone else was fantastic. The most honest car guy I've ever met. He gave me quote for my car and painstakingly pointed out all the problems then said "to be honest I don't want to take your money. Your car is shot". When is the last time someone did not want your money? The honesty and candid opinion was overwhelming. I've since bought a new car and will come to this repair shop for everything. Love those guys!

  • Eliza Cowan

Had a great experience here and will definitely be back for hopefully just routine tune ups in the future! I noticed my car was making a new strange sound so I called Wells Automotive and they had me drop my car off right away. After inspecting my car and diagnosing the problem, they called me to let me know what the issue was and how they would fix it. They fixed my car quickly and I picked it up later that morning. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and professional.

  • Tara Bortolon

Best mechanic in Chicago!!! I find it hard understanding the negative reviews because I have had nothing but a great experience with Wells and will continue to bring my car here for as long as I am in Chicago. I highly recommend taking your vehicle to Wells Automotive. I dealt with the owner directly as well as his staff and was treated with kindness throughout. It is worth going to Wells Automotive for peace of mind that you and your car will be treated well!

  • Cal

Somehow my keyless entry keys got locked in my car. I was really frustrated and worried I’d have to wait a while because it was a Saturday. My insurance app assigned Wells Automotive to help with my car lockout. ETA was almost an hour but they showed up less 30 minutes after which was amazing. The technician was extremely friendly and got the job done fast especially for how busy the weekend is. I appreciate this company! If you need help, this is the place.

  • Miki Yu

I highly recommend this place for their expertise and service to the customers. For some reason the trunk of my car suddenly could not close. I got mixed diagnosis from other places. When I drove my car to Wells, Frank took a look and quickly figured out what was causing the problem. And the best, he fixed it in 15 mins and offered it as a help. Now I’m happy to have some place in the neighborhood that I know I can rely on when I have automobile issues.

  • Tina Torres

My experience at Wells Automotive was outstanding!!!.My car was in a parking garage and I didn't feel safe to take it out by myself. They showed up with 2 trucks and did a fantastic Job! The driver Luke was AMAZING. He arrived within 30 minutes of the expected ETA. From start to finish he walked me through the whole process of what he was going to do to get the vehicle. WELLS AUTOMOTIVE IS GREAT! I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE!

  • Laura Jenkins

I always know that I’ll get prompt, polite, expert service. This time I also received careful attention to an unseen problem and amazing flexibility in scheduling the various parts of the service around my personal schedule. All the staff are friendly and accommodating, but one of the things I appreciate most is clear communication that is never patronizing or impatient. I also know that I won’t be pressured into unnecessary work. Frank is just great!

  • Freddie Guzman

Requested a tow service with them through State Farm with them. They called to confirm I never goes by I had to call them back got no answer got a fax machine phone number then I hear from State Farm that they couldn't help me do to an issue. I am stranded and leave my car unattended the least they could have done this reach out to me and State Farm and let them know that they couldn't make it but they didn't horrible service I don't recommend them

  • Tim S

Car broke down so I called at 630am and told them I needed a tow. They said shift starts at 7 but that they had 7 tow trucks and I was the 4th call. Sal calls me at 6:50am and says he will be there in 10 min. Sal was super nice and friendly which helped as I wasn't in a great mood. Car was on his flatbed in 5 min and he called me when he dropped off car at the dealer. Who does that? That is why I am writing this great 5-star review. Thanks Sal!

  • William Pareja

I hope to never be towed again, but if I do I want Wells Roadside Service to come to the rescue. Their manner over the phone was professional and upbeat. And then… Sal, he redefined my whole experience with towing companies. Sal made an otherwise frustrating ordeal calmer and smooth. Humans of Chicago like Sal are what this city is built on and best known for. Go with Wells. You might even hope to breakdown again just to be treated so well.

  • Kiara Ealy

Frank is the best! He looked out for me when my insurance company wouldn't. After my car was broken into and received significant damage, he called out my insurance company for its low repair estimate and demanded they send someone to his shop ASAP to properly assess the damage. Within a few hours, my estimate went for $600 to nearly $3,000. Thanks, Frank! He also kept me up-to-date on timelines and if there were issues with parts.

  • Nizar Almomani

Bruh , those are bunch of scumbaggss!! Ordered a tow truck at 9:30 AM for an hour pick up! It's noon and they haven't showed up , called them ,my company called them to check what's going on! They told them weather is bad! Dispatch another or wait!! Weather is bad ️, it was a sunny day clear skies no drop of rain on ground , we will dispatch another company you piece of shiiit and wait outside in 15 degrees weather.

  • Paul Key

My phone shows my first call to them was was at 10:30, didn't actually get the car on a truck until after 2:30. Because of this we missed a window at the car dealership to get the car repaired that day so we're stuck in Chicago for an extra day. Multiple calls during that time kept getting updates of 30 minutes to an hour but no one ever came. Roadside Service picked these guys. If yours picks them, try to get some one else.

  • Lauren Apple

Wells Automotive Service responded when I called Geico roadside assistance for my car not starting. It was late at night and POURING rain but the tow driver, Delon, arrived extremely quickly and identified the issue within 10 minutes. He was patient, polite, and did not make us feel unsafe as young women alone at night. He was willing to stand in the down-pouring rain to look at the car. THANK YOU DELON for your help!

  • Ralfino Petrosino

Honestly there's no other choice for me then Wells Auto I live in Arizona but I'm originally from Chicago every time I come in town I have them service my car check it change the oil whatever needs to be addressed the most important thing the very most important thing is there honest that says everything I really appreciate them I've been using them for years and this is not some B.S. automated post Ralfino Petrosino

  • Mina

I was involved in an accident that left my car un-drivable and to be towed away and Sal was awesome. I spent 4 hours dealing with the aftermath - EMS, police, insurance companies, predatory tow truck solicitors… the whole works. Extremely stressful situation and Sal was super kind. Kept me updated on his route, made sure I understood all options, and took care of my car so I could finally go home and have a good cry.

  • James Y.

I had a great experience with road-side assistance/battery replacement with the Wells mobile service. Rob explained the process and showed me the issues with my very, very old car battery. He was upfront and fair about pricing. He also had to put in quite a bit of effort as my car battery terminals were so corroded - all with courtesy and professionalism. I would definitely recommend for their road-side service!

  • Brett Rabata

Was stranded and my insurance company contacted Wells Automotive for battery placement. $400 later I got a battery for my Land Rover. At the time they charged me another $20 because they said the battery was hard to get to. I had the hood opened pulled the top off and it was very accessible and took five minutes to change. Mike the owner said sorry nothing I can do. They will squeeze every dollar out of you

  • Carla Martinez

Worst tow company ever! Their dispatcher is very rude. Their driver left my vehicle without towing and then tried to lie to my insurance so he could get paid. Pure robbery! He tried to hurry me out of my vehicle when I asked for a min to gather myself together. It was cold and I need my jacket and hat and gloves. The dispatcher quote on quote said “do I have to talk to you like my kids” worst company ever

  • Linda dos Santos

Great service I've always had a positive experience with Wells Automotive Service. They've towed my a car four or five times and the drivers were always courteous and very pleasant. Recently I had to have my battery replaced. Everyone I dealt with was very nice and eager to help me. I've always serviced my car at the dealer but I'm seriously thinking of having Wells Automotive service my car from now on.

  • Julius

First time EVER leaving a negative review. This company should have their Geico contract terminated immediately. When it comes to roadside assistance you’d be better off calling your 93yr old grandmother. Repeated history of leaving drivers stranded. Cancels without any communication to Geico or the drivers they leave stranded on the sides of the roads. Absolutely do not use under any circumstances.

  • Kelly Nyhan

I had a great experience from start to finish. Frank/Owner explained everything to me with suggestions of what needed to be done and what could wait. The front desk staff was courteous and efficient. And the mechanic that I met upon picking up my car was more than helpful. It was almost enjoyable given the circumstances. Finally -- I've found my neighborhood mechanic - Wells Auto. Thank you.

  • EatDrinkDoWear

Would leave a 0 star rating if I could. I called this company for roadside assistance and not only did they not assist, they damaged my vehicle in the process, left me stranded on the side of a road as a single woman and then hung up on me when I called to inquire about a solution. They should be ashamed of themselves and I’ll be sure to let anyone who will listen know not to patronize them.

  • Jesus Hernandez

A top notch shop i had a rear tire come apart on me and brought it here. Frank inspected the wheel ordered me a new tire, balanced it out at a very fair price. Very professional his staff as well, i will be returning and definitely highly recommend this location. Also all the sensor lights went off as soon as i got a miles or 2 away, must of reset or something. You called it! Thank you Sir.

  • terrance williams

My insurance company picked this company to come tow my car. They called me immediately and said they would be 1 half hours which was ok considering the weather. 2 hours go by I call them and they lie and say my order was canceled digitally. Of course I called my insurance company to to confirm that it wasn't canceled. Companies like this who just lie I wouldn't trust with my tow or service

  • jmhjho

Had them come out replace flat tire - couldn’t get lug nuts off. Then proceeded to tell me they could do it the following morning if they get a driver with the device of to take tight lug nuts off wheel. Morning they tell me each driver is by area and they can’t send the driver with proper equipment to me. You pay first so just know many of the crew aren’t properly equipped to help.

  • Beau Blakeley

Wells Auto is an honest auto shop...what more can you ask for? They have been incredibly generous and helpful since I moved to Chicago this summer and I will never take my car anywhere else as long as I live here. Friendly, quick turn arounds, always available, and great customer service! The most I have ever truly trusted an auto shop. Would and will recommend to anyone who asks.

  • Jordan McCarthy

An employee named Sal helped me out this past Saturday when my car refused to start and I needed to get it towed to an autoshop. He got the job done quickly and effectively, and he was also a joy to be around. Next time I need service from Wells I am 100% going to request Sal again. Such a great guy! Would recommend this company and employee to others who need car service.

  • Naved Siddique

Wells Automotive was great. I brought my car in and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They didn't charge me. A lot of other places would have charged me for various diagnostics or some work just because it was there. I now have a lot of trust in Frank and his team. Also my wife stopped by before and they took care of a small issue on the spot. I highly recommend.

  • Syd Ward

What a scam. Charged $480 for a new battery and when that wouldn't work they gave no information about the warranty or a refund. To claim the warranty we needed to jump through a hundred unclear hoops and still weren't able to claim it. Everyone I talked to was nice but their policy and practices are pathetic. I feel violated and taken advantage of. Avoid if you can.

  • Rick Desai

Mike at Wells is in the business of screwing customers. Tried to make me pay $150 when my service was already covered by a third party. Meanwhile, his team was at my home ready to tow my car. When i called him on trying to rip me off he became belligerent and forced his guys to leave. His team was very nice. They have a boss who is looking to squeeze customers.

  • Brooke Carter

Mr. Frank and every employee at Wells Automotive are beyond spectacular. They have helped me so much with getting my car fixed. They are extremely knowledgeable and the customer service is the best in the business. I wish I could rate them more than 5 stars because they truly deserve it. I am so grateful for Mr. Frank and every employee who works here.

  • Marissa Cowell

Sal Ruiz was very helpful today when my car wouldn't start. My friend and I had tried jump starting it the day before but it didn't work. He confirmed that we had tried the right thing and then pushed my car to where his tow truck could reach it. He was friendly, gave good advice, and arrived WAY sooner than Subaru (who arranged the tow) had estimated.

  • Alicia Delgado

The insurance company referred me to Wells, and Sal came to tow my car home for me. He came sooner than the original ETA which was a huge relief! He was very kind and understanding. He also worked very quickly. I would 100% recommend him to anyone dealing with the stress of a broken down car at a major intersection in the middle of rush hour traffic!

  • Stacey Wright

I had a flat tire & needed to get my car towed from my job. Sal was the person who saved the day. His upbeat disposition & professionalism was greatly appreciated. Sal towed my car & was extremely polite & best of all, a cubs fan! People like Sal are what makes Chicago such a great city. Sal communicated efficiently & was wonderful! Thank you, Sal!!!

  • Elly Becerra

I just wanna give Recognition to Salvador Ruiz, he towed my jeep tonight, very fast service less than 20mins he came, I really appreciate his service, very professional, very caring about my situation, my jeep leaked a pool of oil and it was dangerous to drive it. But I really appreciate Salvador for his assistance, he came to my rescue.

  • Vincent Kinehan

My second time here in a year. Quality work and customer service like the “old days”, lol. Frank is the best. He provides succinct , accurate , and good natured advice. Worth listening to regarding your vehicle. He pays attention to your requests. Doesn’t mince words. They’ve gone out of the way to service my car. I’ll be returning.

  • Sevan Arabajian

I called roadside assistance because my battery died at 11:30pm and within 30 minutes Sal arrived to save me!!! He was so quick, communicative, and super friendly. What an Angel! I wish I could give him 1000 stars and tip him $100. Truly, thank you so much Sal, I’m so grateful. You made the whole experience feel so easy and safe.

  • Alan Bunting

If you’re looking for a reliable, honest mechanic, that gets the job done correct the first time these are your guys. I took our car in for a check light what came up on our dash, they told me exactly what was wrong with our car. They are always thorough and very polite. I would highly recommend them to family and friends.

  • Gabriel Woodward

I had a flat tire with no spare so my only option was to get my car towed. My insurance company dispatched Wells Automotive and Sal came to my rescue. He was earlier than expected, super friendly, and made sure I had everything I needed. The car was loaded up, secured, and on its way in no time. Amazing customer service!

  • Rachel Larson

The average wait is 3 hrs after initial contact from dispatch stating 1 hour. The actual tow guys have always been great but dispatch is the worst anyone could describe. Today it was 4 hrs and the tow guy was actually at an address several blocks away. If I hadn't called called him back 3 times, I would still be waiting.

  • Daisy Rodriguez

Called for Road side assistance towing for what turned out to be a dead battery however the improper towing caused damage to the complete gearbox assembly with an extremely bent Tie Rod with damage through the outer tie rod and ball joint and into the rack. 2019 Car is now currently undriveable due to this damage

  • Ana Hernandez

Every single person I spoke to about my car was polite, and knowledgeable. As a woman living far away from family and specifically far away from my dad, this is the kind of trustworthy place I’ve been looking for. I’ll be bringing in my car for all regular maintenance going forward. Wish I’d found them sooner!

  • Nevin Wood

Awful service. Gave me an update that their technician was 45 min out 3 times. I ended up waiting two hours in 90° (no AC), only to have to cancel and find a different company. Also, lady on the phone put me on hold, then hung up on me and didn't try to call me back. Hope these guys go out of business. Cheers

  • Christian Meenaghan

Frank and his team are some of the most trustworthy and honest individuals I have ever come across in the mechanic business. It is always challenging to find a reliable and trustworthy mechanic shop you can build a relationship with. I have found that at Wells Automotive and will never go anywhere else!

  • Joe Dunkleman

Great towing service!! State Farm set us up with them for roadside assistance and we couldn't have been more pleased!! They came when they said they would, got our car to where we wanted and took great care of us along the way. Our driver was very courteous and very helpful with suggestions and advice!!

  • Michael Ortiz

Waited two hours for a tow truck driver just to pull up and tell us that we weren’t ready so he left. I proceeded to talk to the manager and he just blew me off and then proceeded to hang up on me. Never go through these guys as they are very unprofessional, and will leave you waiting for hours on end.

  • Carmen Velez

Sal was such a great guy! He was punctual and polite. He explained everything he was doing before he placed my car on the hook. I would definitely use this service again! He even called me to let me know he delivered the car where it was supposed to go. He went above and beyond. Thank you, Sal.

  • Rick Kay

I had a dead battery on Black Friday morning. The driver arrived within 10 minutes, explained everything that needed to be done and got it done in a very professional manner. What could have been an ordeal was handled in less than 30 minutes. I am very happy with the driver and the service.

  • Nancy Bishop

My 2001 Beetle needed to go for an emissions check so I took it in to Wells Auto so they could check everything and be sure I'd pass. They did that in about 10 minutes -- and yes, the Beetle passed her emissions test. Wells didn't charge for that service either. Good people at Wells Auto.

  • Carolyn Ruby

I give Wells Automotive a 5 star rating out of 5-service, knowledge, workmanship. My car was in excellent hands and they gave my service a personal touch. A 12hr day makes it easy for the customer. They made sure my problem was completely solved. Great work, I would highly recommend!

  • Talia Teplitzky

I had a great experience with towing by Sal! They came very quickly in the middle of the night and kept me updated with their location, even offering to wait with me while I called a Lyft. Sal made me feel so much better about a rough night and I’m lucky I got such great service!
