"How many whales can you spot at whale rock? Great walk for anyone that enjoys nature"

4.8 - Dropped by on a rainy day as I drove past running some errands (and popping into the Gallery just up the road). I was slightly concerned with the wet weather but it was relatively safe walking down the slope (from Boundary Rd) and it wasn't slippery at all! Whale Rock was instantly recognisable and there were small groups of visitors that walked along the way. I didn't make it much further but it is the start of some longer bushwalks as you will see on the map, coming down.

Props for actually looking like a whale. Nice quick walk down from the scout hall or accessible from a fire trail off the end of Boundary road. Google maps directions took us to the scout hall and the bush path down wasn't so clear. If I'd been without my phone GPS, I wouldn't have been certain of where to go. I'm assuming the fire trail from Boundary road would have been a lot more clear. I'll try going to that starting point next time.
How many whales can you spot at whale rock? Great walk for anyone that enjoys nature. It's part of the great North walk so you can spend an hour or all day walking. If you intend to walk more than hour, pack some food and water and warm clothes because the temperature drops when the sun goes down

Whale rock marks the split in the trail to North Epping. The whale shape in the rock face is easy to see. The trail up to Nth Epping is a little steep but well maintained and easy to negotiate. The Boundary Rd fire trail east can be boggy and flooded in the few times it crosses the creek after rain.
We start our bush walk from Ron Payne park, a bit steep in the first 20mins for 3 years old little boy. Then we see the beautiful creek and the nature on a more flat road. Nice and quite. Both adventure and enjoyment.
Easy comfortable walk right before a lawn bowls game. Strongly recommended if you haven't been.

When i grew up me and my cousins adored coming here with out grandparents and having a picnic. Loved exploring around here and pretending we were explorers or the famous five.
Just a short walk 5 min from the road parking on steep hill. Then i walked further for an hour early morning sun dappling trees and ferns and cockatoos yelling at me
very good big rock and i come past here when i ride my bike through the bush

The number one tourist attraction for North Epping is the rock that looks like a whale. Kids love to climb it and explore its cavities and crevasses.
A nice surprise right off the Great North Walk (intersection with Devlin's Creek Track). Shaped like a whale's head. Good rest stop.
Very cool walk. Chill. Bike friendly

One of these gems that you happen to stumble on, quite something! Look out for small painting on the Whale's cheek!
Short walk to the Whale rock from the main entrance. Go with your family for an afternoon out on a sunny day.
really a nice place for bush walks. Nice air and scene. large track suitable for walk and riding bicycles.
Great bush walk you could basically walk however long you like. Amazing scenery to and from on the walk
This is fake its just a big rock, never going again. took me ages to find it even though i live nearby
Behemoth of a rock right on the trail... Shows how the forces of nature shapes the nature itself...
Fake! - Not made with a genuine whale.

Had a whale of a time, but this rock blew. Was more like a dolphin. Dont bring your harpoon.

Very nice experience for kids and adults of all ages.
Very quiet and peaceful, but in middle of Sydney!
Worth the short hike from Beecroft or Cheltenham.
Good hike, the whale rock itself was okay.
