I like Whole Foods selections, in fact it’s my go to grocery store. But this location is terrible and it’s all because of the register design. The checkout system is built like a quick check grocer. If you have 5 or so items, you can set them on the counter and ring them up quick. However, you’ll wait in line for over 30 minutes because there is not a single register equipped for large grocery purchases. There’s one line (that always invades other spaces of the store) feeding into several registers. If you have a large cart-full you have to individually take out each item and hand it to the register to scan, not a single conveyor-belt that you would see at other stores. It’s completely ineffective, especially for serving the Foggy Bottom community who view this Whole Foods as one of the only accessible grocery stores in the area. Edit: In November, 2021, they installed a fleet of self-checkout stands. This addition has been amazing for two reasons: 1) the line for checkout is greatly reduced and 2) there is increased ease to grab quick items. I am very happy with the store now. As a someone who lives only a few streets over it's much less daunting when I am missing an ingredient as I can now quickly run-over and grab my item in 15 minutes or less.
Update, wfs emailed and apologized for the issue, and will investigate. Appreciate that. I usually like their hot food bar. Specifically the one on P Street. The Foggy bottom hot food bar wasn't good at all. I paid about 28 dollars for it, ended up tossing half of it away at home. Some of the items had a turned taste. They charge so much, for the cost, Whole Foods should not let it sit there all day, and sell old food. They can refresh it or just remove the rock hard dried out BBQ tofu, and remove the trays with just some gooey scrapings. Their food bar staff hovered around the buffet, and when I asked if they refresh food, the lady said, when i get to it defensively. Its not a school cafeteria. Its expensive I wanted to just drop the plastic container and head over to PF Changs. I understand, they don't want u to nibble, but I’m not going to walk or drive back there after an hour to complain. Just won't ever go to that location anymore, or any for that matter. After tasting their horrible food I though about all the other options I could have for the 28 bucks I gave Horrible Foods. From now on, that's what Im gonna call the place. Horrible Foods…
Had a really had experience at this location. We were accused of stealing by the manager just because we had our own cart with groceries from trader joes. The grocery store is 15 minutes from where we live and we go walking so we have no other option than to go to both stores in one trip. He made us feel very uncomfortable the whole time and followed us throughout the store. Another person had their own cart and was putting groceries in there but it didn’t seem like he said anything to them while we had our whole foods items in a separate basket. He approached again at checkout (after making it very obvious that he was talking about us with another employee) and said we couldn’t bring our own cart because “it confuses the employees”. I explained that we had a receipt for the groceries we had in our cart but he didn’t seen to care. We don’t have the luxury of a car or leaving nearby the store and we had never had any problems with going to two stores in one trip with our cart.
Never seen anyone this rude/unprofessional during my years of grocery shopping experience. The store closes at 10, I was browsing in the coffee aisle 9:50 ish and the store staff named Eileen rolled her eyes at me when trying to walk down the same aisle. When she saw me again in the store 9:53 she sarcastically approached me and said: “you know we close at 10?” I finally could not bear and said I would like to speak to a manager. She just start running into the staff-restricted area beside the fish/crab section…..I’ve been bearing with the “I don’t care” faces in this Whole Foods store for years but this would be my last visit…no sincere apologies, no follow-ups on my case raised with the website, no compensation, nothing.
I love this location cuz it’s by my work place so I just buy few items easy walk to foggy button train station, but this is the second time this employee named JOE,” white guy” walks up to me from all the way the counter to tell me I have to put the staff back like the way I found, while I was in middle of shopping going through the steak to find higher LB ,today was like the rudest thing he just came in front of me and then start facing the steaks which I hardly touched ,mind u I am not done shopping I was so frustrated tired from work I just grab the steak upfront and left.. I bet he won’t do that to his white customers.
Easy to find stuff and even though I try to avoid this whole foods in particular since it's a place where homeless like to beg for money. I go elsewhere and all of this area. Overall, I love the hot bar and I also appreciate the whole foods adding in self check out. This has helped the decrease in the usual long lines they used to have prior to self checkout. The whole foods have official police not no robocop so that is also a great plus as ensuring that my shopping is safe and pleasurable. I have had whole food workers who have gone above and beyond helping me find items or get items I may not be able to reach.
I am usually willing to pay more at a Whole Foods market because I generally enjoy the shopping experience there. This particular store not, for a number of reasons. Here’s one. When I asked the checkout person, politely, to tape the lid of the soup container to prevent it coming off - I had a long walk home - she yelled at me and stormed off. She was replaced by male who told me they no no longer tape or rubber band lids. I guess the few seconds it takes to do so eats into their profits. And what has happened to customer service? I agree with the previous reviewer, it’s a management or corporate problem.
A busy grocery store in the heart of Foggy Bottom. This Whole Foods is on the smaller size with most of the primary groceries on the lower level. There’s elevators and escalators so it’s easy to go between floors. The store can get very busy during peak hours so be prepared for a line. The prepared food section is usually pretty good and their pizza chefs are well trained. The top floor is a little narrow so keep that in mind if you’ve got a companion in a wheel chair. The staff is friendly and helpful. The fishmongers are also on hand with a good recommendation. Overall it’s a good grocery store.
Lola, an Asian woman who works in the sushi section is so helpful and exceptional. She volunteered to assist me to make a special request for a sashimi that was totally out on the shelves. When learning that my friend who was in the GW Hospital was not able to have any starchy food, Lola made a beautiful sashimi platter for him. She even printed the price tickets so I could pay in advance while she was preparing the dish. She was great, pleasant, and exceptionally helpful. She made my sick friend have an awesome day. The day of Friday, December 9, 2022. Thank you Lola.
I think it's great to have a supermarket across the street from the Foggy Bottom Metro. I usually get something in the bakery before heading for home when I'm in the area. Today I met a friend for coffee before going to the nearby Textile Museum. I got there first and didn't have a problem getting a cup of coffee. My friend came later, stood on line for fifteen minutes to get a cup of decaf, and refuses to go back. If you have the time, coffee and the choice of so many good pastries is a good deal. If you're in a rush, go somewhere else and pay twice as much.
The worst cashiers. No eye contact, no hello, laughing, going reaaalllyy slow and chit chatting with the cashier next to her, talking about “Tyrone called out “. I don’t give a $h@t who called out , just bag my groceries and be polite that’s all I ask. Just threw my receipt in the bag, no thank you no nothin’ never looked at me even once. The quality of people you hire has really gone down WF. Oh, and the “French white” section only has red wine in it, and Syrah is misspelt in big white letters. Bravo. So, rude, and illiterate to boot.
I can’t wait to leave this place. I came here for a contract and from this supermarket down to the post office, these workers are MISERABLE, rude, and nasty. I’m so polite to cause i know this job sucks but you ask the self check out people a question and you would think I’m asking them to give up their new born. They are SO nasty and rude. The last time i was here i watched the self check out girl act like she was fighting with a customer on the streets. Hire better workers please cause Im going to Trader Joe’s from now on.
Pretty good wholefoods, staff inside are very helpful. Some don't care behavior expected from the billing counter staffs. Who cares when this store offer self checkout. Due to limited restaurants open during late evening, we went to grab some light snacks from wholefoods. Have extensive items and especially ready to eat. The cart escalator is nice. Price is not that expensive for city. Street parking. I would recommend them to sell umbrella at the store front as we got stuck inside for rain more than an hour.
When I am in the foggy bottom area, I usually make sure to stop by and get a Honey Vanilla Latte from the cafe area here. The vanilla is from France apparently and it is not overly sugary like some vanilla shots can be. Tom is a great barista and very friendly and knowledgeable about all the ingredients they use. The four stars is for lack of good cleaning supplies they carry. I get it’s supposed to be more eco-friendly or holistic type stuff but they don’t usually work and are over priced.
Very rude and disrespectful to homeless citizens, people of color and the less fortunate. I'm a known customer at that specific Whole Foods and got barred for stealing even after I showed my proof of purchase. I always by the same thing which is a wine called three wishes. After I purchased this specific wine I was approached by two cops asking me to show my receipt after I left the store. No police was called, no investigation and my consumer rights were violated.
The stock is usually low and the lines are incredibly long. Going early in the morning is a must if you want a full selection of products. The hot food area is alright, and the pizza has been severely downgraded since they switched from the firewood oven to the electric one. The burgers are the best deal! The junior burger (one patty) is around $5 with tax. You can order these from the kiosks at the back and won't have to wait in line since you can pay right away.
The best smoothies hands down the dude Tom is so knowledgeable and kind it’s a great morning pick me up but the store managers are horrible they are kinda racist I’ve seen them hound people in self checkout. I have even been profiled for stealing from self checkout how when y’all hound us and I visit almost daily but I only purchase only at the coffee counter with Tom because I feel safe and not judged there so thank you Tom for making my morning trips so Bright
Dear Whole Foods, if you run a store that is open for business, did you ever consider it might be good customer service to staff it appropriately? In the last few months from a potential 18 registers you have MAX 5 open, only…….And a line of on average 60-70 people….. Really? You call this delivering customer satisfaction? Maybe creating a more fair working environment might attract more staff and ergo improve your image all round. Very disappointing.
This is my first time in this Whole Foods. Being a downtown store I didnt expect much but was totally blown away by the 2 levels and the genius use of space. Im sure you'd be able to find everything you want and need at this location. Looking for something? Ask a team member and not only do they tell you where it is but will personally guide you to it. I ordered a tall stack of pancakes, pork bacon and .5 liter water. It was pretty good for $8.58.
amazing!!! thomas and jennifer!!!! the kindest i’ve ever met in my life!!!! they brightened up my morning and i couldn’t have made it through my day without them!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! they really go above and beyond to make sure every customer has the best coffee and the best ever experience!!! in a busy city, they are the best baristas in town that take the time to make sure every coffee is exactly as you wanted it - THEYRE AMAZING ❣️❣️❣️❣️
Whole Foods Market, Inc., a subsidiary of Amazon, is an American multinational supermarket chain headquartered in Austin, Texas, which sells products free from hydrogenated fats and artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.[5] A USDA Certified Organic grocer in the United States, the chain is popularly known for its organic selections.[6] Whole Foods has 500 stores in North America and seven in the United Kingdom As of March 4, 2019
This is a funky store, the groceries are downstairs while the prepared food is upstairs. There’s an escalator going down as you walk in but the up escalator is on the far right side of the bottom level. It’s a bit like a maze but the staff is helpful and they have everything I need. There’s covered parking around the corner. The eating area is usually a bit messy but they’re always very busy so I’m sure they’re doing their best.
far the dirtiest whole foods store that I've ever been in. Some of their staff seem to have an "I don't care" attitude. After shopping, I stood in the coffee line for 15 minutes before I was waiting on by the only attendant working who made the following comment to another customer "there needs to be three people working at the coffee stand at all times". A new management team is suggested for this place, I will not return.
One of the worst Whole Foods I have ever been to. The staff at the checkout are particularly unhelpful. The entire design is not conducive to a cart full of groceries you have to put them up on the counter then bag it your self as you take it off. OR they will bag it for you but only if you don’t bring your own bag. The produce section is hit or miss, mostly miss. Disappointing, but if you live nearby it’s your only option.
When the AI takes over, we only have ourselves to blame. They went from HUMAN check out to Robot, self-check-human-less contact. WE let them do it. Every 6 months we lose more of our humanity to these self checkouts. And they stare you down as YOU provide the labor and your own customer service. Scooby Doo whuuuut?? Oh, but Besos needs to fly to the moon (eye roll).
For my first time shopping at Whole Foods I was completely blown away. The store was massive, the staff was very friendly, the products were of excellent quality, and the salad and hot bar items were delicious. I can't wait to go back and I would definitely recommend Whole Foods to anyone who is health conscious or willing to spend more for high quality food.
Is a big store. I can buy my whole octopus here which makes me happy. Great seafood and meats department. Used to be really long check out lines but now the converted many to self check out and it seems much faster. I'm not the guy who loves Whole Foods but as for the stores I have been to, this one is a good one. The staff is really great here.
I came here for the coffee bar and had a wonderful experience. The barista, Tom, was friendly and helpful. He gave me some information about the decaf coffee (doesn’t contain any chemicals). He gave me a sample of one of their green smoothies and made me a delicious brown butter cookie latte. I’ll come back for the great customer service.
Total dump. Homeless people dragging themselves all around the dining area. Bird droppings all over the outside picnic tables. Trash all over the inside dining area. Employee wearing ratty sweat pants sitting halfway down his backside. No thanks. By the way, South Africa no longer has reliable electricity. That's where you're headed.
The most confusingly laid out Whole Foods I have ever been to. The selection of items and prepared foods is great as usual, but I wandered around lost quite a bit. The experience of shopping at this location felt more like Trader Joe’s, which I am not a fan of due to the chaotic energy. Checkout was busy but efficient.
If you’re a fan of good coffee you must visit Tom at the Whole Foods in Foggy Bottom. Hands down the best latte I’ve had in DC and top ten I’ve had ever! Not only is he a fantastic barista but he really cares about the people that he serves. 5 star experience all the way! Thank you Tom, and keep up the good work!
Must have been peak hours because there were alot of people especially in the line to check out, but when i finished my shopping and went to check out, the line was gone. So you guys are super fast! I found everything i was looking for! Has amazing vegan options when it comes to pre-made food which is awesome!
Thomas makes the best Mactcha latte and other drinks. I always wait for him to make my drinks. One he was on break and it was some other person I refused for them to make my latte because I know they will not make the matcha latte good. I highly recommend Thomas to make your latte and other drinks.
Update! The microwave can only be used for reheating cooked food!!!! You are not allowed to use it for cooking raw meat! Everything organic and healthy you need. Enclosed place to sit down and eat and drink your purchases right away. Even a microwave and cutlery is provided for free. Awesome!!
Better service at coffee counter these days. Sad that they need a police officer at the door. In the evenings I have seen adults (student age) eating the heavy things out of their salad bar boxes while they walk around. Tough place to operate a business. Self check out has made lines move better.
Whole Foods Salad Bar is Fresh it is prepared daily it is delicious,,, I stop to eat at WF from their delicious Salad Bar, and because it is convenient and a quick meal, I also like their varieties of Corn Bread, I like their seating areas to relax with a quick meal to relinquish my appetite.
I always like this chain of supermarket. You find almost everything you need and the pre cooked meals and amazing and convenient. Negative point here : everything was empty. Maybe some good reason behind or not luck. Clean shop and staff friendly. The queue to pay went down quite fast.
I love this Whole Foods. Everyone is quite friendly, my favorite items are always fully stocked, and the breakfast and lunch buffets are always delicious. I especially like to stop by to get a coffee from my favorite barista Tomas in the mornings. Really great staff …
The bakery sucks. This is my third time ordering a cake for Sunday. No one works on Sat or Sunday to make birthday cakes!!! Pre-made cakes put out on Fridays in hopes they're AVAILABLE on Sunday. Change hours for birthday cakes so your customers will know!! VERY UPSET!!!
Tomas is by far the best barista! So kind, always makes the best coffee and never fails to remember you. He was working with another barista Jennifer and again nothing but kind and a great barista! I always come back to this Whole Foods in foggy bottom just for them!
Speaking specifically for their lipcare products, it was pretty decent. I would've appreciated a wider selection, but I did like how they had lesser known brands. I would've given at least half a star more if they had more flavored options, especially the eos brand.
A well run madhouse for the lunch rush. Make sure you stay on the upper level to grab your hot bar, salad, beverage, alternative beverage, backup beverage, and then I don't know candy bar or something while you check out with the very fast and very friendly staff.
Thomas at the coffee bar creates 5 star experiences for any drink you order. Super nice guy who is always working with a smile. He provides exceptional customer service….Thank you to Thomas and the Whole Foods crew for my favorite drink: Matcha Mint Lemonade!
Nice whole food . On 5/27/23 between 10:30am-11:40 am , short old lady working nearby the self check out made the whole experience unpleasant. She was watching me the whole time like how was going to steal smth all cus I was black . She’s blacked herself smh
This store se to have great customer service, the past few times I’ve stopped in this store I’ve noticed what horrible customer service UPI get at the register, this crew definitely needs a class in customer service. …
Tried one of their chicken and vegetable preparred meals but it wasn't to my liking. Chicken was tasteless and dry. I've had other meals at this store that we much better. Suggest looking at the meal carefully thru the transparent lid before buying.
I’ve been shopping at the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods for six years because it’s the only real grocery store in the neighborhood, and the best way I can describe it is utterly dysfunctional. If this store were a nation, it would be a failed
Whole store is always clean and always have what I need and the prices are good some items cheaper than Safeway and your Worker are polite and always willing to help you with no attitude thank you Whole Foods Market keep up the good work
I'm stuned a whole food with a line wrapping around the store? Are you kidding me unreal. Never again to this very sad of an excuse to have this hanging. Can see the line on one side of the store and registers on the other. Freak show.
Great vibes at the barista counter. All around great experience. I had the “drink your greens” smoothie and it was refreshing and filling. They didn’t skimp on the greens. Lovely conversation with the barista. Keep up the great work!
Local store with a large selection of products. Bread, fresh fruit, drinks. Basically everything you need. The store is clean and everything is tidy. The only downside is a very long wait at the cash registers operated by employees.
Tom at the Coffee Bar and cafe was delightful and made me a delicious smoothie. Very accommodating of my requests and additions to my order, I will be returning! I ordered the garden of eden with almond butter and almond milk.
The drink I ordered was carefully prepared by an attentive barista, Tommy. I like when I’m offered other add-ons that I wouldn’t otherwise think about. My drink was delicious, thanks to Tommy who was helpful and professional.
It's great I love it there this particular whole foods market has wine had all kinds of personal care items had a huge variety of hot and cold foods and you had a big place to sit down inside or outside it was great
Two-story, layout. Main groceries on the lower floor with quick food, options salad bar, hot bar on the ground floor. Plenty of check out kiosks. High-quality food as expected. Recommended. Coffee bar in the back.
The check out line is shorter thanks to automatic check out. Bakery is pretty bad. They used to have pretty high quality Bakery products. Now it's pretty much from freezer. You better off getting it from Costco
I love Whole Foods! Upstairs is a hot food bar. Delicious breakfast options. Grab & go meals are good too depends on what you have a taste for. And you can dine in after your purchase. It's a win win for me!!
Tomas from the coffee shop is great! Every morning we have a nice chat! He treats everyone as his friend! I would love to visit the coffee shop at the Whole Foods more if they restock the matcha latte. ;)
Had a great experience at the WF Foggy Bottom cafe this morning! Thanks to Tom for accommodating my green smoothie order and being a pleasure to talk with. Always a good experience at this Whole Foods.
I'm for work at DC for some weeks and I get here a great green tea and mixed berries for breakfast. Very nice people. And I get my meals from time to time. Very healthy. It's been a discovery for me!
Walking distance to Foggy Bottom Metro, GWU and the Residence Inn by Marriott which has a full kitchen. Many healthy options and not so healthy options for those that crave a good dessert or carbs.
I agree with some reviewers that the staff has a “I don’t care” attitude but I also know they are likely over worked, underpaid, and treated particularly poorly at least once a day by a customer.
Does not have a deli counter where you can order cold cuts and has not for months. Please add the deli counter back. Otherwise, small store with 2 floors which is a little difficult to navigate.
I forget to take pics. This place always be my main supermarket when i come to DC for having dinner, snack, milk, fruit, and fresh orange juice. The place serves rice meal. Yayy.. heaven for me.
The cafe inside Whole Foods was great! Tom was my barista and was incredibly professional and provided amazing customer service. My latte was delicious and I’d def recommend visiting the cafe!
I went there to grab a quick dinner and didn't do other shopping but the selection of grab and go food was less than expected. I ended up with a salad and slice of pizza, which wasn't great.
this location is ok-ish. some days are a hit some days are a miss with stocked items. Customer service is amazing. Still my go-to and deal with what I can find when I am visiting the GWUH.
I like the sales, but I absolutely hate the fact that paper and sticker machines break all the time. Also, there are like 3 cashiers working out of 10 available spots. So bring your card
Came for an Amazon return, left with some sushi and some cookies! Convenient location and well stocked store. Quick and effective checkout lines. They have a ton of self checkout kiosks.
Great coffee and even better Baristas! Tom is always friendly, willing to customize your drink to your preferences, or explain a new item. All of the other Baristas are also great!
The best. I do not consume what is expensive. Everything that I do eat is so affordable. Also, try their delivery service, it is good - having about a $10.00 surcharge additional.
The smoothie bar always hits the spot, Tom is the best barista in the northern hemisphere ive met, great costumer service and experience overall. Highly recommend this location.
Tom is an amazing barista! He was so welcoming and truly cared about me as a customer. I highly recommend grabbing a coffee from Whole Foods and meeting Tom. I will be back
I already have.!!! These comments have apparently be censured. Apparently the store couldn't handle the comments !!! See you idiots in court. Punitive damages on the way.
Tom makes the best smoothies at the coffee & smoothie bar! The whole staff is amazing and the store is always so well organized. Cannot recommend this spot enough!
The barista that works here (guy who wears the red pants) is amazing. Very friendly, cares about people, and loves what he does. He's a great asset to the store!
Very busy location. Long lines. The store has two floors. Stairs down is automatic. Stairs up are not. Should id be opposite? Good quality of produce as usual.
Just like any other Whole Foods store, it's clean, no long queues, got what we need. Plus, a big free (up to 2 hours) of underground parking in the DC area.
Well stocked. Friendly, helpful staff and the convenience of Amazon that we hate to love. Garage parking and a great selection of other things in the area.
2:30PM on a Saturday afternoon - the coffee bar here is already closed for the day. Not a great look for a very well-capitalized grocery store and cafe.
The employees at this store keep a very close eye on people of color shopping especially at self checkout smh will not be returning.
Everything I needed as always and even found this new brand that isn’t in any of my regular Dallas, Chicago or Las Vegas locations!
Very nicely laid out Grocer in the heart of the GW campus. Lots to pick from, tons of premade foods, hot and cold, available too!
I loveee this Whole Foods although you need to be able to do self checkout because the manual checkout line takes a longgg time
I went there to purchase Valley Organic Sliced Sharp Cheese but they was sold out. They didn't have any fresh zucchini squash.
I love stopping by the coffee bar for my daily fix. My drink is always perfectly made and the conversation is great!
I’m always amazed at how this store initiates good customer service by simply anticipating a customer’s needs. Super
I brought a whole rotisserie chicken and had to throw it away it was spoiled I paid $9.00 and some change
Follow the signs to find free parking. Make sure to validate your tickets after you buy the groceries.
The food on the bar was not cook all the way but store was nice and people who work there was nice.
It's in a busy place, so usually more crowded. Overall well maintained like other Whole Food marts
Very nice place to visit and take quick break, will be visiting everytime we're on the area
Big store...clean and plenty to choose from .. employees are very helpful and friendly ☺️
Mainly geared for food. Smaller whole foods than in Boise. It was the foggy bottom store
I always go there for lunch and I am very satisfied by the food and beverage selection.
It's not bad though most of the things you can find way cheaper in another ones
The buffet is always a perfect option for healthy food. You can't go wrong.
Good store, a little expensive and no coke or Pepsi, only the store brand.
Excellent market, great variety of products and warm food ready to eat.
