I’ve been in this branch 3 times and service by the counter staff got worse and worse. The girl with an accent is so rude, she tries to initiate a fight instead of listening to the customer. We had pies and teas dine in, and I ordered a choc eclair and choc cake to go. She put the eclair in a small open container (that’s fine) but then tried to put the container in a paper bag!!! I asked her to remove the paper bag and cover the cakes with another container (the small open box kinda thing) Common sense right!!! She rolled her eyes over and looked up!!! So rude !!! The chocolate covering of the eclair was removed by the paper of course, and then she said ‘Yeah look that’s why I didn’t want to change it’ !!! That’s exactly why I asked her to put another container on top instead of covering it with a paper. If she didn’t change it I would go home and would have my eclair exactly like this ‘without the chocolate coating’!!! At the end of the day, service is TERRIBLE, so so rude, it’s so expensive and pies we had were so oily, croissant was so buttery and wasnt fresh. Not planning going again any time soon !!

I came to Wholegreen Bakery today for the first time after being recommended by a friend. Some of my family members are coeliacs, so we were really excited at the idea of a gluten-free bakery. When we arrived, we were really impressed by the range of baked goods at the store. Being lactose intolerant, I was also surprised to see so many dairy free options. My mum has been a coeliac her whole life, and she said she's so grateful to finally have choice when it comes to baked goods and breads. Not only were we amazed by the range, but everything is so delicious! I had the chocolate croissant and my mum had the apple slice. We also purchased a vegetarian quiche for my younger sister (also a coeliac) to eat later, which she loved. The staff were also super kind and helpful! It's not often you meet people who are so passionate about the food and coffee they sell, so we were really thankful to the guy who served us, as he made helpful recommendations and was really knowledgeable about the product. (Sorry we didn't catch your name!) Between the high quality (and delicious) products and incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff, I would 100% recommend coming here.
The christmas calamity. Disappointed. That’s what I am. For an early christmas celebration, I broke out the fruit mince pies I had bought the week earlier, mind you it was a harsh $29 however i was happy to pay the fee knowing myself and my family could feast to our hearts delight, a delicious warm explosion of christmas spirit. Once i busted them out of the paper bag, to my dismay they were infected with mould. Each pie had a surface area covered with an ashy white-green layer still spreading even as i eyed it. I was so upset, it was absolutely repugnant. Due to the quick deterioration of these once delicious mince pies i had no choice but to throw them out. I was abhorrent. Depressed. My family insisted I bring them back to the store and talk to customer service but what’s done was done. My christmas spirit was squashed. Usually love the products here…. but absolutely unacceptable for them to mould so quickly… no care instructions, so i kept them on my kitchen counter at room temperature. Just simply disheartened and let down. #depressed #yourethegrinch #imisssantaclaus

What I loved about this place is that I didn’t have to ask what gluten free options there were - because everything was guaranteed gluten free! I came here twice while I was in Sydney- the first time I had the spinach and feta roll and Ana almond latte. I really enjoyed the latte - and the spinach and feta roll had a lot of flavour , and the pastry was lovely and crispy - it’s been a long time since I’ve had one of these . Couldn’t resist a chocolate eclair as well , the choux pastry was something to aspire to for a gluten free home cook , and the filling was a deep chocolate flavour - a chocolate lovers delight which went well with the coffee. The second time I came back for a takeout and had a vegetarian quiche and a gingerbread biscuit , which I throughly enjoyed for lunch at Taronga zoo . Thank goodness for places like this that offers so many options. Would love to know the name of the coffee, it was a delicious dark roast and I throughly enjoyed it .

Just wanted to write this review to combat some of the reviews I’ve read here complaining of rude service and stale goods. We had the opposite experience! Rachel, who helped us, was so sweet from the get-go. My husband has Celiac disease and never gets to eat GF pastries. (cakes and cookies, sure. But never laminated, layered pastries!) Over the years he’s had to watch me enjoy amazing croissants, sausage rolls, tarts… and I really have had the good stuff. I mention this only because I tried these Wholegreen Bakery GF items, and they are really good! Truly. So in short, we loved this spot and it’s safe to say it’s a Celiac’s pastry dream. We tried the sausage roll and chocolate croissant.

Pitiful excuse for gluten free bread nowdays. Maybe 10 or even 5 years ago this was acceptable, but no longer - there are some amazing GF flours out there. And vegan sourdough? Is that even a thing? It's only 3 ingredients, flour, salt and water. Make sure you only get vegan halal sourdough in case someone is sneaking bacon into the bread mixture The tarts we had were pretty bland and tasteless, I had to double check myself by making sure I could taste the tea in case I had an asymptomatic case of the 'rona. 2 stars is for the tea. I get it, if you're coelic or whatever this place may be awesome and you can eat something other than your usual GF DF Soy-free vegan lo fodmap sugar free salad made of carbon dioxide and nitrogen with a dash of oxygen and trace elements. But for everyone else...
I am writing because numerous people had previously reviewed this place saying that there are several vegan options, but unfortunately that is not the case. Only plain bread and one chocolate chip cookie are available. Although the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, I must express my disappointment. In such a central location in a metropolis like Sydney, in times of climate change, it is not acceptable to not offer a vegan and hence climate friendly alternative. I wish they would bring back the vegan sandwich that they apparently used to have and maybe add in a vegan banana bread - this will cater to omnivorous people as well and you could become an inclusive and responsible place with little risk.
We walked in with casual clothes, and we were greeted with some sort of stink eye, not even a hello. w had never been there before, but it felt we were getting judged hard. As soon as we walked in, the entire cafe smelt like old people feet. It was super gross. I ordered a latte, it tasted like a black with extra bitterness, they could've added salt and pepper and it would taste better. The food heavily relied on being extremely sweet and was pretty mediocre, but that is my opinion. Wouldn't go again, the lady's felt they were rude because we we appeared off.

Nah... Your business is not good to us. We are ongoing gluten free family for decades now and your putrid food is not fine fettle to our family. we understand what gluten food is for sure. My 6yo probably knows more about the harms gluten causes to the body then you do. If there is retailers re selling your products is up to them and frankly is not my business. Just a honest feedback that your products are too expensive, your service is desirable to be average and no quality found. We enjoy many other gluten free bakers in town, we appreciate good food. Definitely we are not coming back to your bakery. i quickly saw some of other reviews is not only us. i wish you well and "break a leg"
The best place in Sydney for gluten free options. I wholeheartedly recommend as an essential visit if you are coeliac or gluten free. I enjoyed the almond croissant especially but the savoury salad and pastry options are also delicious!! We need more places like this around the world! The most delicious gluten free cakes and pastries I have ever eaten, and that is said with no exaggeration!

Very rude service I would give zero star to the service if i could. No manners from the girls. Desserts were overpriced, so expensive. Lemon tart was way too sweet, brownie was pretty average like a gf brownie from a random super market level. Almond croissant was soggy, so buttery and made us sick ! It had a awful taste and unfortunately it stayed all day in our mouth, the worst gf croissant we’d ever had. The money we spent for 3 desserts and 2 coffees was just wasted, will never be back ! Random cafes have much more tasty gluten free desserts for a much much cheaper prices.

Staff are unfriendly here. It’s so disappointing because there’s not many GF spots in Sydney - and so you get there, excited to try something safe, and instead you’re greeted with a disinterested counter staff and $12 sausage rolls. Such a bummer. I’ve been half a dozen time now and every time it’s the same. The interior isn’t pleasant either - half the lights never seem to be on, so you eat in half darkness, and the tables are always sticky and seats covered in crumbs. Please do better!

For anyone gluten free (or not for that matter) - this place is a haven of deliciousness. The food is great, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the coffee was also fantastic. The cafe is in the bottom of an office building and is nice and relaxing for an early lunch with magazines and gentle music. Gluten free food is always going to be more expensive than normal cafe fare, but I was surprised that for this area of the city it wasn’t more expensive than the likes of fish bowl and such. I can’t recommend it highly enough - definitely one of my new regular lunch spots
Really appreciate Wholegreen for being one of the few places you can get gluten free pastries however there has definitely been a drop in quality over the past few years. The Waverley location is still pretty good but the last couple of times I’ve been to the city location have been quite underwhelming - my quiche a couple of weeks ago was quite watery and my eclair today tasted stale. Not bad enough to warrant making a fuss and asking staff for a new pastry, but I used to leave Wholegreen feeling thoroughly impressed every time and now I leave feeling like I have wasted $11
I had lunch here today and was disappointed with the vegan sandwich. Lots of grated carrot, a lettuce leaf, an uncooked slice of beetroot and a slice of cheese. They used to make really nice vegan sandwiches here before Covid and it would be great if they brought the original vegan sandwich back. Also they charge a surcharge now for dining in which bumped up the price of the sandwich to over $15.

Gluten free Bakery with cozy, clean interior. Been here twice, all the staffs were really friendly. Had rueben sandwich, spinach-feta with pesto dip. Rueben was okay, though half side was crunchy but the other was just lightly toasted. Spinach Feta was a bit salty for me, should have ordered salad as a side. Kind of hard to deal with small flies during dine in. But overall it was nice bakery, would go again(and I did)

I went at 1.30pm on a week day for lunch and it was such a lovely setup with an “urban sanctuary” kind of ambience. The pastry of my vegetable tart was slightly crunch and the relish was a good addition to a quiche like tart. The chocolate eclair was tasty. The fact that they are all gluten free make them so much lighter after the meal. Great food.

I can't tell you HOW HAPPY I was to eat here. We stopped by for lunch. We had the sausage roll and quiche lorraine with a mix of salads and an almond croissant with coffees. The pastry was fantastic. Any gluten intolerant foodie will tell you that getting GF pastry right is hard and finding it even harder. Well done to the team on their fantastic bakes. The service was friendly and helpful. The cafe has a few tables but do try to avoid the lunchtime rush as it gets busy.
Gluten-free, unfortunately flavour-free too! Came here excited to try what was on offer for brunch, as I eat a gf diet. Had frittata with cauliflower salad - so bland. Glad we didn’t order anything else. Coffee was pretty ordinary too. Far better restaurant/cafe options available further along Clarence St, offering delicious gf food.

AHHH. Where do I begin. As a coeliac finding baked goods is extremely hard. If you do find them, they are supermarket level and are always dry. I was EXTREMELY excited to find this bakery. I only got myself a croissant. But my goodness. It was basically every possible positive word to describe incredible tasty food. Highly recommend.

I really don't understand the bad reviews about this place. It's a dream for everyone who has coeliac disease! Food is really delicious and excellent variety for coeliacs. On the pricey side but to be expected for good quality gluten free products. However, every time I’ve been I have experienced hostile service, especially from the manager lady who is very unpleasant and clearly not very nice to the other staff members, which I have witnessed multiple times. I have also seen her be rude to customers and it’s enough to put you off!
Suits me to a T. Gluten free food. Tasty. We only get to Sydney a few times a year. First class gluten free food is not easily accessible in food halls. We buy Wholegreen Bakery bread and have lunch. Excellent. Our problem is we are WFPB. So we do avoid a lot of processed vegan food as well.

We had the best experience here! Incredible service. The manager noticed our group of 4 squeezed on a table for two and asked if she could move us to a better spot with heaps of room. This tiny detail in a busy cafe was so kind and showed such a high level of customer service . The food was delish and the service fast. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed quality food and coffee on Saturdays. Also, the foods are gluten-free. The quantity is not small, enough. The picture a quiche and salad. The fresh salad was crisp and fresh and had pumpkin in it. It looks beautiful and appetizing. And the interior of the eat in area was nice and calm. The space and atmosphere is comfortable for one person to sit alone. Next time I will enjoy coffee break and cake.
Lovely bakery and lovely atmosphere. We got the French lentil pie and the pain au chocolat. Both were enjoyable, especially as my partner is on a GF diet. Despite GF treats like these being hard to come by, we were a little disappointed with the pain au chocolat. The pastry was a bit too thick and very heavy. The texture was also similar to that of a bread roll. Overall, grateful for the options available!
Delicious gluten free food, and impressive baked goods. However, when checking out I was asked if I would like to dine, and was told there is a 10% surcharge to dine in. 10% surcharge to eat in a restaurant seems very excessive, especially considering it was a Tuesday morning. Not sure if this something cafes can charge for, seems very dodgy.

Gluten Free Bakery with amazing options!
Amazing gluten-free dessert options ! Honestly, one of the tastiest almond croissants I have had. Staff was friendly and cafe can be quite busy, but that's the best part about take-away ! Grabbed a variety of sweet treats such as lemon meringues, croissants and blueberry puff pastry. Good portion and absolutely tasty :) Well-made pastry that will leave me coming back for more.
The place is amazing, the staff was so kind. There was not many things left as we came in late, so they kindly offered to make us something special (I am vegan and gluten free) the pesto was so good, the whole team is great ! Highly recommend ❤️

Fantastic gluten free pastries and bread in the heart of the Sydney cbdat last! Paradise. The raspberry Danish is to die for! The baguettes, cakes and tarts are awesome too and they're now even licensed if you want to do the traditional French thing and wash down your ham and cheese baguette with a glass of wine!
A must visit for anyone gluten free (or not!) in Sydney. Incredible selection of pastries, sweet and savoury, and my favourite were the croissants, they’re hard to find! It was all so delicious and nice coffee too.

Stopped in here for a coffee and a bite to eat and really enjoyed it. A range of delicious, fresh pies, pastries, sandwiches on offer. I had a spinach and feta roll and a coffee and both perfect. Good amount of indoor seating available, and nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely pop in again some time.
Gluten free bakery a bit hidden within Alliance Francaise Centre. Lovely display of sandwiches and pies. I had a herbed chicken and salad sandwich on gluten free sourdough. The chicken was not dry and had good flavour.

$8.50 for beef pie. Obviously the biggest plus is the entire bakery is gluten free. The coffee was a surprise......pie was 4/5, coffee and lemon meringue pie bumped it up to 5/5
