I so DISSAPOINTED with the treatment I received from yo-yo yesterday. I have never experienced RACISM this blunt as I did yesterday. Firstly , as my friends and I stood in line at around 11 o’clock 21.04.18, security came and said members and regulars only. We then decided to make a few phone calls as we stood in line so that we would be let in the club. While we stood on the side we watched every person other than BLACK people being let in. No one should ever have to know people or have friends pull strings to get in a public space such as this particular club. Amusingly, 30 minutes after, my friends of a lighter completion got in . They are not members or regulars. No one should not be let into a club because of the colour of their skin or the ratio of black people their with. The most concerning issue was the service we received once we got in. The blond bartender would decide that my BLACK friends and I were not worthy of service. Her eyes beaming with a sign of “I am not serving them” and proceeded to walk to the other side of the bar. Although, thankfully the bartender next to her with the wavy hair served us with excellence. This kind of treatment,” RACISM” was demining and humiliating to both my friends and I. Personally, I want my money back because, sorry I don’t pay to receive RACSIM. Before leaving the club, I voiced my discontent to some of the staff and informed them I wasn’t happy with the treatment. I equally spoke to the manager and she said “we are not RACIST because we have black people in our club”. Just because you have a few people of African decent in your club doesn’t mean you’re not RACIST. I write this review, because I sincerely hope that change can be implemented. I would never want any other black person to feel that degraded as my friends and I did. That was my first and last time going to yo-yo because I don’t appreciate RACISM. The we were treated ; my friends and I was RACIST.

Really disappointed. I've been here with my partner and had good times, so we recommended it to our large group of friends(8girls/10guys). We were on the guest list & when we showed up to the front of the line the bouncer took a look at my & my partner IDs, and then glanced at our large group, and said 'sorry.. We're only taking guest list members tonight.' We told him we Are on the guest list and without asking the name of our list, he looked at us again and said "no, sorry you're not. Please step out of line so the people behind you can come through." The group of all white people behind us were quickly ushered in, while the bouncers tried to keep their backs turned to us. We were very confused and we still deserve an explanation. The bouncer kept turning his head, refusing to look, as we tried to show him our confirmation email of our booking. He repeated over and over saying "I'm just doing my job, I've got kids to feed. I can't let you in." What does that mean?? How is your business set up? With the $15-20 cover charge from our group of 18 people, I'm sure that would've more than covered his wages for the night. Not to mention the amount of money we were prepared to spend on drinks. Are you worried that everyone inside dancing, would've had their night ruined if people of colour showed up in your pitch black club??? How do you train your bouncers? The attitude we received was disgusting. I am white, and have only been denied getting into YoYo when I am with my non-white friends. Please explain how this does not sound like basic racism. To not treat us with the basic respect of answering our question or even be bothered to PRETEND to look at a physical "guest list", we felt very disrespected.

I came on holiday from Dubai n I was looking around for a club with hiphop n RnB music. So I found this club n I read the reviews which basically made me feel like I would never be allowed to get in because I’m black. So I decided to at least do my part and ask how the entry’s like. First of all there is no phone number to call. Like how on earth do u want us to make reservation then?! On their Instagram account it says message us for guest list. No one responded to my inquiry about the entry policy. Maybe because my profile pic shows I’m black like the rest of the people complaining here? Money was not an issue for me at all even to book a table on my own. I wouldn’t recommend this club to anyone coming from Dubai. Thanks to everyone who wrote their review n saved my time. Haha oh yeah. I noticed also that they rewarded one guy with 100 dollars to send in the club for his nice review. And the rest of the people who complained didn’t even get a reply. Smh!

Terrible club. Bouncers are power hungry and like to make up rules just to not let you in. Me and a few mates had pre purchased tickets for the club but were denied entry because we “didn’t have any girls”. Nowhere online does it state that you need girls. They’ll happily take your money but won’t tell you about their secret rules until you get there. Even after adhering to their rules we were still denied entry because they didn’t like the fact that we actually brought girls in. Will never be going to this garbage club again. I definitely don’t recommend it to anyone that wants a good night, security need to be checked and replaced asap, they’re ruining this club.

Great music in both the lounge and the dance room. The staff at the entrance are just unfriendly. One guest was asking his friend about the photo scanner at the front- just a passing question. The staff at yoyo told him ‘move away from the scanner, haven’t you seen a scanner before?’ And he started laughing sarcastically with his colleague. It was just uncalled for. Staff members of any establishment should not act with such hostility toward any guest. Thankfully, the staff inside treated people better. And again, the music was spot on.

  • Chris polomack

I have been leaving in Melbourne for 7 years and yo-yo had always been discriminated peoples of colors with the typical excuse " do you have a guest list ? " I went there to support my DJ friends who were mixing during the night. The bouncers were extremely rude. 30 second after 2 Asian get in with out been asking any guest list. Don't go there if you're a person of colour, not a hot girl or whatever beauty criteria they do have. Loving black culture but you don't accept their peoples Sad .

  • Matthew Poulos

$25 cover charge, overpriced drinks, sticky floor, inexperienced and rude bar staff. Similar to other reviews, the door manager is definitely racist, saw many "ethnic" people being turned away (apparently you need to be on the guest-list if you're not white?). The whole place has a elitism and racist vibe to it, won't be going there again. Good luck operating under such business practices.

  • Brian McKeeman

Dangerous*** worst spot I’ve been to in a long time. Bouncers don’t want to let you in unless you pay them under the table or are so obliterated you’re a walking liability. People drop things into drinks regularly making things easier for those paying clientele. Don’t go here unless you’re looking to be roofied.

Do not waste your time with this place. It's home of the rudest bounces who enforce and incredibly sexist "ratio rule". Friend had booked a VIP experience for his birthday, not allowed entry as we had "a lot of males in the group" "please step to the side and we might let you in in a while." What a JOKE! Worst VIP booth too. Could barely fit 6 comfortably.

  • Parsa Shahidi

Bouncer said we need girls so we came back with girls and he said no I already saw your face, honestly these clubs need to be more carful when hiring bouncers cause these powers are just power hungry and want to use every opportunity to overpower innocent people who are just looking to have fun.

Terrible place. They discriminate against black people, but they love black music. You are not allowed to enter after 11pm if you are black. There is no limit to the absurd reasons they will come up with to deny you entry, but let "others" in. This is based on multiple experiences. Ironically, they want black artists to perform there.

  • Petar Kovac

The security guards in the front denied my friend (who is person of colour) and I in for nonsensical reasons. It seems that this club associates itself with prejudice and discrimination against marginalised groups. The club pick-and-chooses people based on their personal biases and are not inclusive. Avoid this club at all costs.

  • ahmed muridi

If this night club didn't get the best of me then I don't know what did. The venue the people the bouncers and that bloke named "Nicolas" top my night and their 10/10 rnb music. This place is a must go to follow their facebook page and guaranteed you will never be disappointed nor regret a moment you spend their #yoyo …

  • Jackson Stapylton

Club promoters and security are very homophobic. Walked past to join the que and the seccys were abusing some guys saying there’s not enough girls there. They guys said they were here for the boys and dancing then the bouncers told them that they weren’t welcome. Not a good look. We then left. With all the girls in the que.

  • permex permex

Absolutely shocking bouncers saying that it's over "capacity" whilst also letting in an extra 40 women... it's disgraceful that a place who are supposed to be a business treat there customers so poorly! I have read through all the reviews and it's always the same thing hopefully management can step up there game!

  • Tanya K.

Yoyo’s has been the one and only place my friends and I experienced blatant racism in Melbourne. The bouncers and staff practice discrimination without batting an eyelash. It’s appalling and I cannot believe that in the 21st century this is still a problem. I wouldn’t recommend this club to anyone with morals.

  • notmade

Security are something else, one dude in particular is the lowest of the low bullying and harassing people based on what ever he things of you. If your a guy trying to get in don’t bother they legit beat up a guy in front of me for trying to line up twice after not bring any girls.

YoYo is definitely the place to be on a Saturday! I always feel welcome and at home when I party here. If you’re into the latest hip hop hits or even dancehall and afrobeats, then I would definitely recommend this club. Gals can even party with sneakers on which is A+ if you ask me. …

  • Gaurav Vig

Do not waste your time! Don't even think about going here! I wouls rather go anywehere else bht here If i could give 0 i definately would have. This is the worst place with worst experience ever. Spend your time in the toilets rather than spending your night in this damn club.

  • Cristina Polidori

I never saw people racist like that and with so much prejudice against people. They looked my friend and they use an excuse that we are bot in a guest list, when it was clear someone was not welcoming.

I would give them negative 5 stars, but I can't. The worst service I've ever experienced by any club and any bouncers. We had booked the VIP Booth and were treated like we were scum. I wouldn't recommend yoyo to anyone, either frequent or new club go-ers.

  • Sunday Makuach

Tell me why I waited nearly an hour in line just to be told that they weren’t letting anymore black girls in!!!!?? DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CLUB ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE BLACK, they don’t care about giving good service to you. …

  • Anya Tanzarel

Haven’t seen such rude and racist staff in Melbourne, ruined the whole experience. We let the first instance at the front desk pass bc it was a big day we didn’t want to ruin but it only got worse. One star for the good music, which saved the night.

  • Aisha Mamsa

I went there last weekend for hens. The staff were so nice and very accomodating. They let me in for free and gave us a bottle of sparkly. We had the best night. Staff looked after us making sure we have planty of glasses and mixers. Many thanks xxx

  • bigrambutans V

This place is as racist as its gets. Even when 15 of us were on the guest list to celebrate a special night, the bouncers felt that they were 'just doing their job' by not letting us in. If you were white skinned, no problems …

  • Google Guide

Weren't allowed to get in after our girlfriends because the remaining guys wasn't a 1:1 ratio of guys to girls. Then they made the excuse there was an imaginary dress code. Don't spend money here, they don't care about their customers.

  • Kane Russell

No doubt this is best club in Melbourne, let alone the best Hip Hop club. The countless A-list names coming through the door are a testament to the quality of this place. Staff always accommodating and DJs never dissapoint. 5/5 fo sho

  • Yung Julie

I feel like you gotta be a white girl with 10k+ followers on Instagram with black friends and whole closet purchased on an aesthetic clothing store website just to get into this club. I think I’ll stick to Entourage

  • Erol Tanzirel

Was treated terribly by bouncers here. Was told my guest list didn’t exist which was a blatant lie. Do not organise a night out here. It’s very likely you will be knocked back and your plans for the night ruined.

  • Mark Welikala

The only club in Melbourne that the colour of a persons skin is the entry pass to the club.. Avoid this place at any cost. If your not the same colour as the bouncers you do not get in.. Just rude and racist!!!

  • Cam A

Straight Cheeks!!! Security are absolute flogs and won’t let you in even if you bought a ticket online cos of ‘ratio’. DJ’s are ordinary as they come and vibe is deaddd. Ain’t what it used to be. Zzzzz

  • Ash Brown

Bouncers are tools, wouldn't let us in because we had the guest list wrong by a word. Then was a smart ass. Heard the place was crap anyway so it saved me wasting me on the joint …

  • Prequel

Best hip-hop night in Australia hands down. with local and international acts a plenty, 2 great rooms, booths, bottle service, friendly door staff and bouncers and lovely bar tenders. xoxo

  • Mik Elstein

Bouncers have no respect for customers! I think they do not know where their miserable salary comes from! Do not forget your rolex at home and do not hesitate to show your black card.

  • MrBomberland

i always have so much fun here!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE MUSIC!!! I booked a table here a few weeks back, staff made me feel like i was partying like a real rockstar! LOVE THIS PLACE!!

  • lukas farfalla

I wish I could give it less stars it's a hole that probably a money laundering front because no one there has experience in club work. Well the bouncers at least! "Its AJ's list"

  • George Young

The bouncers were the worst bully’s I have have encountered. I suggest the bar owners look at hiring different bouncers as all the bad reviews on here relate to the bouncers…

They won't let you in if you don't meet their hidden criteria and if you do get in, good luck buying drinks... Two jack & cokes + a Smirnoff Ice Vodka cost roughly $60.

  • Fraser

Pathetic bouncers who make up rules to not let the rest of your group in and don’t let u refund even though you spent 30 seconds in the club. Don’t waste your time
