Okey I have some thoughts here... Let's start with the good... Staff is friendly... Helpful and professional with their customers... There is this lady she helps the manager out when she gets busy and ect think she is the helper second in command I think... I like her...I LIKE HER VERY MUCH.... She has a passion for the place and she wants to see it succeed.. She listens to ideas and wants to bring a change to Zonnekus because I get the feeling she knows changes must happen... You should listen to her more.. Especially her ideas... She can make a change.... The manager told us to try out the restuarant and I wasn't really keen...but boy was I happy I did because that is the best thing at Zonnekus... Their food is soooooooo good!!! The mozzarella sticks and mussel pot was delicious... Hats off to the chef... Girl you can cook...The waitress was super friendly and she was busy training a young boy and well I hope he comes right he is just adorable and really wants to work there... I love the staff in the restuarant they are excellent no complaints about the restuarant... There are chickens everywhere...I love this I love the chickens... Here is a tip... Sell some packets of chicken feed at the shop so we can feed the chickens... The kids will love it... And hey I'm not even a kid and I fed the chickens and I loved having them around.... The chickens are awesome!!!! Now here comes the bad.... Zonnekus has so much potential... But boy is it being ruined... It's really a beautiful place it's beautiful and big and you can make alot of money if it gets run correctly. ... But it is just really flippen weird... First of all... The ablution blocks are DISGUSTING I'd prefer using the bush to do my business... It stinks and it is way past dirty... Everytime I used it... I felt more dirty... Why are you letting the permanent residence using the same bathrooms as the campers... And why on earth are the campsites so close to the permanent residence... No man guys... It felt like I was camping in someone's back yard and btw you can hear every story/drama going on there at each household.... Here is some advise... Just move the campsites and permanent residence away from each other... give your permanent residence and customers seperate bathrooms and try and just have a little less residence... It's overwhelming... I feel sorry for that place... Because seriously it has sooo much potential... But at the same time the owner or who ever is running the place must have a big soft heart and you know that isn't a bad thing... You would rather help other people than make money and therefore I can say you are a super human... And well I must review the place in my honest opinion as I am a traveler and I have been to my fair share of places... Best of Luck Zonnekus....

I attend Zonnekus Resort this weekend for the first time and I will also be my last time. And for any person of colour not to ever attend that place because they treat you very different if you from a certain racial group. The attitude and service delivery of the staff was appalling. I was at Zonnekus Resort for the weekend, and it was one of the worst experiences I had at any resort I have attend in the Western Cape. Upon my arrival on the Friday i didn’t well very welcome because of the way the lady (Linda) at the reception spoke to me. We were supposed to leave on the Monday but was told the leave the resort on Sunday by this same lady from reception that didn’t make me family feel welcome. What I have experience this weekend I would not want it to happen to anybody else. I had to tell me kids that we should pack up and leave the resort, can you image how I felt when I had to tell my kids. I could see the disappoint in my children faces. The Chalet was not up to standard with broken windows, toilet that was blocked and had a bad smell. The chalets are in dire need of upgrading outside and inside and too expensive. the TV pictures/quality is poor, the furniture is old and outdated. The kitchen equipment is old and wore out. The pool is dirty and the slid is not well maintained. I would advise any person to never ever visit Zonnekus Resort. It was my worst camping experiences or treatment I have received from any resort in the Western Cape. I will make sure that none of my family, friends and/or colleagues visit your establishment. I will never recommend your establishment to anyone I know. Why was only half of my refundable deposit paid back to me when me and my family and friends were chased away a day earlier . What kind of person does that? Are you as the owner not ashamed of your how you treated us?

When we called we were told that they were booked full and only 1 camping site left. When we got there they had quite a few opened. The price of R 2000 for 3 nights for one camp site (we were told you cannot book less than 3!) is quite expensive for what you get. From the pictures we had a different impression. We paid a lot less at other places that was a lot nicer. The poctures are probably from 50 years ago. The campsites have no grass, only sand. No place for kids to play at the campsite unless ypu want them dusty and eating sand. There were a lot of bees so the kids could not go barefoot. One of them stepped on a bee. There are washing facilities for your clothes which is great. 25 rand a load. Not too bad. However there is an open sewer (child size) by the washing lines. There are chickens. A lot of them. Keeping you awake the whole night. No rest and peace for you. The day visitors take up the whole swimming pool area, so campers cannot really make use of the facilities during the day unless you want to sit and swim on top of other people. I understand that it is during the holiday season, but no social distancing is possible at the swimming area. The bathrooms are clean and the facilities in wprking order, however not all the toilets flush properly. The staff is very friendly, and probably the best thing about this campsite. They clean up constantly to ensure you have clean facilities.

I am glad we are not the only ones who were deceived by pictures on internet. We booked online for 20 people amd paid a deposit of R12000 , including kids. Upon arrival we were shocked at the filthiness of the place and the surrounding. There was no we could keep our families there. The manager on duty could not assist us and when we insisted on speaking to the owner she refused and told us to rather send an email, which we did and she did not respond and later opted on communicating to us through her "so" called lawyer 3 days later telling us we will not get a refund as it part of their policy. We had to look for an alternative place to sleep for the night while make arrangements for the next day and the remainder of our 10 days stay in Cape Town. We have since since taken the matter with our and have reported them to relevant authoristies to question how they could be operating under such conditions and if there is any accreditation/licencing with the giing, hygiene and safety concerns we found. We need make sure that this is closed down and no victims ever. We are shocked to note that she has refunded others but refused to admit that the place does meet the standard as advertised and refuse to refund us. I will post the correspondence from the lawyer shortly. PLEASE EVERYONE MUST STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE

The area around the main pool is fairly well maintained with fixed upgraded umbrellas. The lawn around it is dying of drought. The play area and facilities for children area very well maintained. It is a pleasant place for a day visitor. As far as the chalets are concerned ,it is in dire need of upgrading outside and inside and too expensive for what is available. The camping sites are well laid out but there are no grass due to Eucalyptus trees preventing its growth. The ablutions everywhere definitely need tiling and beautifying. I am told by the permanent residents that it is a great lifestyle and that the security at night is first class. The maintenance of the place, up to now, show poor workmanship e.g the kiddiespool was flooded before the paint was ready for it and the braai facility at the chalets are falling apart-no preventative maintenance can be seen anywhere. Until it is upgraded and a preventative program is visible, use it only for day excursions.

I'm going to try and be as nice as possible. I know everyone is different, I'm going to say how my experience was and I don't want to bash anyone. If you like to camp rough you'll be fine here. Here you have everything you need, not fancy at all, but it will be available. Bathrooms ( updated - with newish tiles, but not new toilets or showers. No baths. ) Play area for the kids ( I didn't feel to comfy with my kiddies playing here alone. ) Swimming pool and I saw some dam tipe of thing as well. (I'm not going to comment as I do not want to swim in public pools that looks a bit off) Washing mashines and I think some basins Staff is very helpful and nice. Chickens ( the rooster woke up my husband at 3... ) We tried it. We left early (booked 3 nights ended up staying 1). Ps. just make sure you can get to your stand easily if you camp with a caravan. Some stand are tricky.

My experience at the resort was absolutely unpleasant. The attitude and service delivery of the staff was appalling. I phoned the resort twice on the day. The morning I phoned to ask about the resort info. Just before I left home I phoned again to ask specifically if they are full as it was later in the day, they assured me I can still come they are Not full. Upon arrival I stood at reception the staff just looked at me. Eventually someone came to tel me 'we full' no greeting or 'can I help you?'. After I told her and showed her on my phone the time I phoned, she just said no we were full lo g before that. The manager didn't even bother to listen she came out of the office and repeated that they were full. I am extremely disappointed.

We made a booking for a family outing to Zonnekus. We left at 6:30 am in the morning to arrive early. Upon arrival we were told at the gate they do not allow walk inside and we must come with a vehicle. When pulling in with our taxi we were then told no taxis are allowed either and only vehicle. Bear in mind we are over 10 people and they are expecting us to have a vehicle. What vehicle carries 10 passengers? The manager on duty was so rude and dismissive of our questions when we asked how it's possible for 10 people to come with a car. We are deeply disappointed in the service we received from this place and would not recommend it to any big families.

woke up very early & drove all the way, stood in a long que for an hour just to get to the gates and have this lady tell us they cannot let us in bcs the parking is full but if we have family inside we can go in, meaning they don't care how much effort we put in to get there or if we got there before the so called people with families inside, I mean I've been planning this outing with my family for a while now, so tell me where are the people with family insides cars gonna park on their family members roofs? I'm very unhappy with this & if this is the case then you should have people book for day visits beforehand as well to avoid this unprofessionalism and inconveince.

Refused service to a diabetic Child with a medical alert dog and then lied to HelloPeter when they were reported. 24/02/23: in reply to your response: You clearly don't even know who you spoke to as I am NOT the person you spoke to on the phone. Secondly, a medical alert dog is NOT a pet and it is ILLEGAL to refuse entry to this alert dog. It LITERALLY keeps this little girl alive!!!! Thirdly I do not wish you a pleasant day further. You have had every opportunity to reach out to this poor family that you have wronged but have instead chosen to lie and block them. We the public see your actions and won't be silent.

If I could give a zero response I would. I am a transportation company losing business due to the fact that you guys don't allow drop off and pick up. I've never in all my years came across a resort that you must come with your own car and stay inside untill you leave. I would suggest when anyone is making bookings at the resort, instead of all your telling people to read your terms and conditions. Create something short that you can say to someone on a call, example, deposit, no music, on taxis or Uber pick up or drop off before taking people money. I would definitely not recommend your resort to anyone!

  • Tessa Charmaine Brookes

My experience encountered with the owner is that she have no etiquette. She has no way of approaching people. Her attitude is plain bombastic.....which stinks of "baaskap" mentality. Their advertising of the facilities and the terrain for campers is misleading, as they only focus on the front of the place, but the camp site looks like a dump. The shower facilities really needs an upgrade. During my visit, I did not observe any lifeguards or lifesaving equipment around the two pools....which serves the campers and day visitors. Wonder how they can get away with such an important safety regulation

  • Andrea Swart

Really Great Place, Close enough to Cape Town, Fairly Clean Camping Facilities, Friendly Staff, Safe and Peaceful for Camping with Kids, Plus Bonus of animals and Chickens roaming freely and waking you right on time! LOL!! Absolutely LOVE the NO MUSIC policy, think it's perfect to come out and just enjoy the tranquility. Only disappointment is to wait for the daily rush of the "Day Visitors" to leave so we can also enjoy the pools in peace and quiet - perhaps you should consider throwing the chemicals in just a little bit later to give us Overnighters also some free time for Fun in The Pool:(

  • Devon Loubser

Substandard abolition facilities i.e. clogged run off drains that seep sewerage back up into the shower drains when taps are at high pressure, guests share 2 bathrooms between as many as 100 people at any given time that live on the property, subcontractors, maids, staff etc and above mentioned permanent residents.. HEALTH HAZARD!! Humongous Falling bluegum tree branches potentially endangering the lives of visitors & the damage of personal property.. Unfriendly inhospitable owner and staff, unpleasant experience.

  • Eubranesia Eden Nails&Beauty

Honestly wasnt happy with the experience, was not at all what a excepted for the price we paid.Bathrooms a big no no,place needs to be maintained better, staff at the kiosk was very friendly however the rest not so welcoming. Were reminded numerous times about the rules,no jumping in the pool,no swimming without bathing suit or with a jeans shorts etc.Pool was not clean at all, flies everywhere ,no go for me will not recommenade this place at all rather find some other place.

  • Peter-John Maart

For the amount charged person person person day the facilities is very bad, the toilets are filthy and the braai areas needs to be attended to, the place is all and all filthy. I will never complain about the pool because with the water restrictions it's all ok. But the place needs to be attended to or drop the daily fees. I doubt that the management at Zonnekus Holiday Resort knows what it is to run a place like that. Won't recommend my friends to go.

  • dirk heyns

We went out for a work braai and this was so much fun. Bathrooms was clean, the pool was great to swim in. All the braai areas was clean and the staff at the entrance was helpful and friendly. We were a group of 11 people and we had a great time. If you just want to get away for the day it is just outside cape town. Thank you

I was a bit disappointed at the lack of control with regards to alcohol, when approaching one of the staff members he advised me that they allow alcohol but only a minimal amount but there is no way that they could monitor this and the some of the visitors became drunk, there is no proper protocol regarding alcohol consumption. I would suggest not allowing alcohol on site which would make it more family friendly

Awesome time with a company break away. Place seems a bit run down whicj is disappointing. The pool and slide were great entertainment. Wide open spaces are nice and not cramped up. Sure might be far busier over a weekend. Nicely stocked shop and extremely friendly service. Close to toen makes this a lekker pop in place.

The resort wouldn't take our booking. They don't do one night bookings. So no spontaneous souls. Also discriminatory to those that work only get one day off. people in the same industry as you, hospitality and hotels. Would understand if you had to clean the room for 1 night but we requested camping. They didn't even give a reason.

Definitely not a holiday atmosphere, place looks total different from the idea the photos gives you. Most camping sites are rented out to permanent residents, who have build little plots. We felt uncomfortable with the idea of staying there or leaving our belongings there for the day. Must commend the management for refunding us without any problems, when we decided to rather find another place to stay.

I would personally like to thank the staff of Zonnekus for your help where my mother inlaw got sick your concern for her and us as the family we had an awxome time at Zonnekus and would love yo go again

Nice place I camped there with my family However I was really disappointed in the treatment of the campers, because due to the fact that there was a large influx of people visiting the place for the day we could not use the facilities such as the pools and trampolines unless we paid for it. As a business I recommend finding a way to separate campers from day comers to avoid conflict.

  • Bernice Kimar

The upkeep of the place has obviously been impacted by the pandemic. In general everything was fine but we had a huge problem with the toilets which smelled absolutely horrible like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. The kiddies pool was completely brown and while we understand the use of borehole water, I did not allow any of our children to swim in the kiddies pool.

  • Marisa Botes

What an pleasant experience. I went to Zonnekus Holiday Resort fora rock painting meeting class it was a lovely place on your way out of Cape Town I would definitely go there again to get out of the caos and just enjoy the nature . There is a restaurant to go and enjoy some freshly baked cake with a nice cup of coffee ☕ and to buy needed daily supplies.

  • hugo steyn

It's the place where you can sit watch the game on Big screen, or play pool, darts, and got camping facilities. The burgers is excellent, no presevitives just good old fashioned steak mince with the right amount of seasoning. Don't know any one who makes that quality burger in that size. It's good really good. This is excellent value for money.

  • Natalie Delport Louw

I only visited the mini supermarket, which is located at the entrance. Very convenient. They stock a little bit of all the essentials and have a restaurant. Their caramel cheesecake (R45 per slice) was just delicious! The staff was very friendly and helpful. (I upgraded them to 4* for taking the time to reply to my review).

  • Andre Badenhorst

This is a beautiful venue. Lots of sleeping place and it's just a stones throw out of Cape Town. It's has a view which sets the mood for a good night with friends and family. They offer sandbording classes, kite surfing and paintball. If you are tired of Cape Town and need a break and spend a lot. This is the place to go

  • Gavin Abrahams

I drove through the camp .I have not stayed there .or had dealings with the staff. It seems rather run down and unkept . I felt that the highlight of the campsite was the pool. There is no grass ,just sand and no wow factor here . A pity though if regular maintenance was done it could be quite pleasant for short stays.

  • kamielah burricks

Lovely place to take the kids for swimming while we adults can braai and still keep an eye on kids. Also fun that their are animals all over.. Just love this place.. Only thing is flies can get a bit annoying but staff come around and spray.. I guess where there is animals there shall be flies lol.

  • Naomi Samaai

It's okay but entrance fee is R80 which is not too bad but changing the rules regarding not being able to take in alcohol is not a great idea. Also they do not allow you to vape in the only pub where you can get alcohol. There's no notice of it. Cigarette smoking is allowed but not vaping.

  • WarBone_cpt

Its nice and clean but bathrooms and showers needs a major update Im a beefy guy but theres no reason for my shoulders to reach both sides of the shower... The sound of nuts and branches hitting the roof will wake you up in the middle of the night. In all Good Place but needs an upgrade.

  • Aaliyah Valentine

I won't recommend this place to anyone who is out to have a nice time, we were there this past weekend and the service and people staying there doesn't know how to treat guests properly and they should be more accurate with their rules, really not a place to be at, Jade-lee Hendricks

  • Paul Hartzenberg

The pool is over crowded and you need to wear proper bath suits (especially for the females). The toilets could also need some TLC. Those were the only issues I had. Other than that the place is okay for a day with the family. Tip: arrive early so that you can find a good spot.

  • Bradley Dirks

Really nice place. Glad they using borehole water for the pools ( not the most appealing visual- but it's safe to swim in) nice and quiet place for family outings, staff members are friendly and helpful. Price per person is debatable. Would recommend the place for day visiting.

  • Nicky Swanepoel

The ppl who work there PLEASE BE ABIT MORE FRIENDLY. Doesn't matter what clour u are. Animals are beautiful and so is the place but the workers very disappointed spend so much money to spend the day and they are miserable, rude, u people should learn to smile not be policeman

  • Isobel Magiel

Just bought beverages at the tuck shop then viewed the place.. was my first time here. Looks like a nice relaxing place for a family outing.. pools, trees, lot's of relaxing spots.. my type of scene. Would just like to know more so I could actually plan a trip for the summer.

  • Conrad George Becorney

Been to this resort several times, it's now more beautiful than before, very relaxed and quite, Very clean and neat, definitely would recommend it to anyone, Definitely be going there again this Summer. Resort shop sells everything, Wood, ice, ens. Very friendly Owner's.

  • Laura-Anne Van Lieshout

Disgusting. I only give one star as this is the lowest rating available. The ablutions are horribly run down. I was really not happy using them. Campsite is sand. No grassy areas at all. I don’t know where they took the photos that they have on their site.

The place is a little bit outdated but the evening swimming in the warm pool made up for that. One of the best evening swims I had and they got a fantastic little cafe/shop.
