I was charged an extra day hire after I was told I could drop the vehicle off at 16:20, 20 minutes later than planned return time of 16:00. In future I will make these arrangements telephonically so there is a record of the agreement. I went in person to ask if I could drop the car off later than my return time of 16:00 and was told I had another 20 minutes. I had rented the car for 25 days. I returned the car at 16:13, so earlier than the extra fee time of 16:20. The agent should have given me a return time, rather than just saying another 20 minutes. I just assumed my rental started at 16:00, as that was my booking time for collection? But after 25 days rent and some confusion with the drop off time, I was charged a full day for 13 minutes over my time. The car I had also had no liquid in the windshield washer. Had a dangerous incident when I wanted to wash the windshield and ended up with a windscreen I struggled to see through, dirt just smeared when trying to wash. Left rear tire was not properly inflated, as found this had a slow leak. I reported both these things when returning the vehicle. So their cars are not thoroughly checked before being rented out. Their first response back to me there was not even an apology for the empty windshield washer. Then I had to escalate the extra day charge issue, rather than Avis investigating this. I used to use Avis as a preferred company, but after this last experience, I will not be using Avis. It also took 20 days to get a final reply that they would not remove the extra days charge. So not happy with their response time.

Horrifying experience after being assured by Avis staff that my car is safe and has been checked. My ordeal started off by getting something that I didn’t want. Booked a Toyota Corolla and ended up with a Suzuki Ciaz -Drove the car for 10 minutes only to pick up a terrible odour inside the car. -Car had a terrible brake shudder everyone I braked and a terrible wind sound from the rear of the car -Vehicle was involved in an accident and there where still glass pieces inside the car Is this the kind of service I get after regularly booking cars with Avis. Tried calling Avis King Shaka and their number just rings with no answer. Called their head office who transferred me through and had the same experience after calling a 3rd time I had to get a managers cell number to report the issue and get service After reporting the car defective I then had to drive to amanzimtoti to pick up a vehicle from them so I could continue my trip because they didn’t have any drivers. The manager at the Amazimtoti branch was fantastic and very customer friendly but his agents at the front desk left something to be desired. Lethargic, effortless, un compassionate No form of communication never told me what’s going on or what she’s doing communicated with other staff members while she was supposed to be assisting me. If this is the support and customer service I get from Avis this is the last time I will book at car with Avis I DONT RECOMMEND renting from Avis after this experience

Shocking service. Got a scratched up car,pointed out scratches upon collection of the car and we were told it’s fine and to go. Take the car back to then be accused of the damage we pointed out. The ONE time I don’t take photos because we had already reported it. I don’t know if this is how they make their money,by scamming people because with the car we got,they’re definitely not using it to fix the cars. It’s shocking. Word to the wise,when you report damage,take a photo of the person you’re reporting to next to the damage so they can’t go back on their word,seeing as this is how they operate. You should be ashamed of yourselves. We used Avis often,never again and I’ll make sure to let friends and family know of this too. Our business will also never make use of them again! Scammers

I hired a car on a work trip from Budget in June, then in October I get an email about 500 that I am supposed to pay for valet. They “investigated” however with this “investigation” there is no actual footage after I have repeatedly asked for footage. Lawrence Marago and his team decided on their own that I owe them R500. Why did you give me my deposit is something was wrong with the car, additionally you don’t send me proof and you just demand my hard earned money. Stop scamming your customers! DO BETTER. If anybody flies into King Shaka International PLEASE - use a different car hiring service. These people will demand money from you long after the fact. They will also scare you with lawyers as they have done to me.

I am so disgusted by this company. I arrived and was given the wrong vehicle with a quarter tank fuel. I returned the vehicle with the same amount of fuel but was sent a legal notice a week later demanding money for the extra fuel to fill the tank. I repeatedly stressed to the agent on receiving and returning the vehicle and was assured that all will be ok. I am now having to waste my valuable time to resolve this. This is nothing short of extortion and will not accept this. Hang your head in shame Avis. This is not how to do business. At no time was there a query or an email stating reasons for a legal notice ??? Simply disgusted by Avis … it’s hard to believe this was once a reliable and honest company !

Something Very Dodgy going on at AVIS King Shaka lately. A month after my booking I have been charged for a "cracked windscreen" that WAS NOT CRACKED OR CHIPPED when I returned the vehicle. I inspected the vehicle carefully on returning with the Avis employee & he was 100% happy that the car was in perfect condition.....then without notice I was charged R2400 for a new windscreen .I am 5 phone calls and 3 emails in with no response so have reported to card division with my bank. I am a preferred client and Avis King Shaka used to be good....but it seems a dishonest looting mentality is now in play.....I won't go back and can suggest trying the other guys!

What a terrible experience! Came back from a trip with a tiny chip in the windscreen. Was clearly informed by person receiving the vehicle that this was minor and would cost max R200 to repair. Without any consultation I get a +-R2400 deduction on my credit card. Tried to complain but could not find anyone to complain to. Was ultimately told that the workshop guys said it needed a windscreen replacement. Utter rubbish. Sent a few emails to complain but never even got a reply. Will stay as far away as possible from Avis in the future.

When checking out the car we found out 3 additional extra charges non negotiable that were charged to us: Contract fee, Adminsitration Fee and even a fee to manage a flat tire for which we have full insurance coverage (but not that management apparently). These guys are jus trying to take as much money as possible to the client and we were not even able to make a formal complaint cause they don’t have a way. After 1 hour of discussions withou success we had to leave not to miss our flight

I use Avis extensively and this depot comes up short every time. Other branches seen to be quick and efficient but not King Shaka Durban. Here you can pretty much guarantee you will be waiting a fair while to get to the counter even if you are a preferred customer. I don't know whether it's staying issues, poor planning or cost saving that's causing it but from a customer perspective it's very frustrating. I have used other providers here and they do not have the same queuing issue.

I rented a Renault Kwid from Avis and returned the vehicle with a full tank of fuel. Avis still charged a R40 refuelling fee as well as R104 for fuel. In addition there was a R600 valet charge and a R120 contract fee. I am very disappointed in the additional charges from Avis, especially a refuelling charge on a full tank! Avis sent an email saying they would investigate and get back to me with 5 working days, but that hasn't happened.

I hire a car for 3 weeks , a entry level car, 2 days later , I call then after try then over 20 times. To say the car as no power going up a hill. They reply was , they don't have a car currently, welhwn something is available they call me , 2 weeks later I'm still with the same car , no calls. And I paid R9000. Rubbish after service. And for sure I not be using this people again. 0 star rating.

Good luck trying to get through to the branch. Service levels and accountability are very poor when required to follow up and actually assist a customer. The only way to get hold of the branch is to call the national call center who would try to transfer to a manager, in one instance I was transferred to an ex employee no longer working for Avis.

Avis rental was smooth at King Shaka Airport. The staff was friendly and efficient, our vehicle was ready and in mint condition. On returning the vehicle the staff was there to receive us at the designated drop off area in the parking lot and were able to confirm all the details before we left.

This is normally my choice of preference for car hire, but today they've got it all wrong - and badly wrong! My pre-booked car is not available. I've had to wait over an hour for a replacement vehicle. This is not the kind of service I expect from AVIS.
