I know I will just get the typical low iq response from the owner on this review repeating the same thing to every negative feedback (read previous replies from owner) obsessed with calling people anti-maskers. We spend a lot of money at fish stores but we will go anywhere else over this place. Scroll down and find where he calls a customer an “ultra maga trump supporter” for not wanting to wear a mask in his store almost 4 years after covid lol. Absolute insane behaviour and immaturity and I recommend you spend your money at literally any other fish store in Edmonton. This owner will talk down to you if you are new to fish keeping and/or kick you out of his store if you disagree with him. Sad to see an owner of a store resort to all sorts of attacks on his customers when he hears something he doesn’t like. I recommend aqua market or planted tank! Great friendly knowledgeable staff and they aren’t as overpriced as this place. You also won’t be forced to wear a muzzle 4 years after covid! embarrassing behaviour and i’m quite frankly surprised this place is still open from the amount of customers he’s banned from his store! Take a look at some negative reviews on here and see his responses and ask yourself if this is really someone you want to be supporting. My go to store for healthy, quality fish. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable. The fish and plants are reasonably priced, some stuff may be more or less than the big chains sell for, but I trust what I'm getting is going to be properly quarantined and cared for and likely won't give me any headaches. Tanks are individually filtered instead of in groups and always appear well maintained. I actually usually test the water the fish were sold in out of curiosity and every time their parameters were spot on. There have been some fish over the years that I wanted to see about getting special ordered in that he absolutely wouldn't even consider sourcing due to either high mortality rates in shipping or some other ethical reasons which I would've had no idea of, it's nice to see a store with that kind of all around integrity. •Also worth noting that currently in mid 2023, masks are still strictly enforced here but are generously provided, which I completely respect, they care about people diseases too not just fish, plus as an added bonus from this masking measure you can rest assured you won't come into any unnecessary contact with any of those silly anti-vax folk while you're browsing for your next fish... yay!

I've been out of the fish hobby for a couple of years after having to take down our tanks when we moved. I visited one of my favorite places to get the tank running and start getting it stocked again, but after several bad experiences in a row it was time to move on from them. This store came highly recommended by several people, so I popped in yesterday to add to the tank and to fix the male: female ratio the other store messed up with. I DID have a couple of hiccups with my first fish I brought home from them yesterday. I really want a peaceful tank where everyone gets along - is a perfect world too much of an ask? Some of my chosen tank mates decided they wanted to rule the entire 55 gallon world, and definitely didn't belong though I was assured they'd be ok. It was a simple mistake, and they went above and beyond to make it right again and I am thrilled with the service, as well as the fish I now have. As a bonus, my service dog - who knows to ignore people - REALLY loves the gentleman who helped me yesterday and today. I like to think that she's a pretty good judge of character, so anyone she really likes that strongly, must be a good person. Thank you - I'll definitely be back for more!

This is an amazing shop for any planted aquarium enthusiast. I am currently setting up two new fully aquascaped tanks, and went to Aquarium Central on a friend's recommendation. It did not disappoint. The selection of plants, hardscape, supplies, and stocking options are excellent. The staff, for the most part, are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The reason for not providing a five star review is one of the staff members is overly pushy and and bossy. He does not listen to what the customer is requesting. Insisting you purchase something you did not come in in for. Over the last two weeks I have made several shopping trips to Aquarium Central as I set up my two new tanks, and have witnessed and experienced this dismissive and rather rude staff member. This style of sales is very off putting. It is as if he assumes he knows better than the person he is talking too. The two other staff I have dealt with are more than helpful and a pleasure to interact with. That being said I will continue to support this store, but REFUSE to interact with one of the staff.

Over the summer, I had been lucky enough to come across this absolute gem. I had some free time to take a trip to an aquarium store on my way back home, and the first store that I could think of was this one. The familiar, clean interior of the store as I entered was lined with loads of different hardscape options, fish food and other supplies. Once again, the customer service was gold, as they made sure to check in with me as I was walking around the fish racks to offer assistance with anything I needed. They were quick to answer questions that I had about the fish's current diets in the store, and never hesitant to provide extra information. In the end, I ended up just buying a pack of frozen brine shrimp, but the store owner provided an additional foam case wrapped in rubber bands to keep the food cool for longer while I went back home. This was easily the best customer experience that I had from an aquarium store so far. If you are looking for any freshwater fish and plant selections, I highly recommend checking them out.

This store is the only place I will go to for my aquarium needs! I have gotten plants and shrimp here so far, and all of them have been very healthy. The owner is really helpful and gave us advice for the best plants/shrimp for our tank and how to care for them, and the prices are really great! UPDATE: It's been a few years that I have been keeping aquariums now, and I can still say that this is the only aquarium shop that I trust to buy my bettas, shrimp, snails, and plants. I have visited other stores around Edmonton, but they don't follow the stringent protocol to prevent against diseases in their livestock the way they do here. The owner continues to be awesome, and the staff are excellent too! I have always gotten very helpful advice, and they never make me feel bad for having questions about care, or asking for suggestions about what species would be the best fit for my tank. Included is a picture of two sakura shrimp that I recently got here, they are fantastic!

You won't believe the level of rude foolishness and brainwashing at this store haha it's a joke...The owner and his staff are very unprofessional, disrespectful, lack customer-service, and don't have a clue what they're doing. It's kinda funny that the owner hides behind his computer keyboard and displays the utmost unprofessional attitude and arrogance towards customers but when in person he tucks his tail between his coward legs...AVOID THIS STORE AT ALL COSTS!!! There are plenty of other amazing aquarium and fish life stores around the city that will treat you with respect and NO non-sense like arrogant attitude like this fool and his joke of a store. He'll probably be out of business sooner than later anyway. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, and you can also clearly see it in his responses to many other people's reviews. This is who you are dealing with, and they treat people horribly. DO NOT SHOP HERE!

Edited after response from owner: not everyone looks on your social media for making requirements, and I am just notifying them. As for food selection, you have one brand and would like people to be informed of that fact. If you wanted to expand selection, you could add some shelving along the walls in the gallery to increase stock. I'm not denying your stock selection isn't great, but just want to inform others according to my experience. I didn't know there was a masking requirement as this was my first time in this store since pre covid.. Sadly I will probably not return and I know you will probably be thinking "good you don't want my busines" but that's neither here nor there. Food selection May's well be non existent. They are only interested in stock. Also masks are still mandatory in the store so plan your trip accordingly

First visit to the store i was very happy. I live by west ed and drive all the way downtown which i hate. I went over to the flea market first due to i refuse to drive a block at a time and destroy the environment for less then a block trips. Also if you are getting fish and its +27 out i would not be so cruel to leave them in the car for any amount of time when you are not in it. Went to put my stuff inside the car and found this note. I was parked infront of the aquarium central and him and only the dog groomer were open on Saturday. So they left this note on my windshield and could not diplomatically word his letter or sign it. So i would thing twice about going again. Why when there selection is limited and the tanks are not the cleanest. And the selection is limited Big Als allows you alot more selection.

Amazing store. Incredibly helpful staff. Great Prices. They don't have walls and walls of useless products that leave you confused about what to buy. They have Seachum product line. Wide variety of aquatic plants that are growing in water already which has resulted in 0 loss for me. Their fish are incredibly active and healthy, you can tell they are well cared for. Staff and owner are so very helpful and willing to answer any question I had. Even left with printed directions on how to use the products to cycle a tank properly, and an email address in case I had any other questions or concerns. I 100% recommend this locally owned company, it will be my go to place from now on.

I didn't know this aquarium store existed until right before we arrived! We were looking for a decent selection of freshwater shrimp that we couldn't find at other bigger aquarium stores in the city. The 2 staff members both greeted us as we walked in. The storefront is small but there is a backroom where the fish are and it is big!!! Their freshwater plants are the cheapest in the city that I have seen and they make sure the plants are not infested with snails. The employee that helped us was super friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We found exactly what we were looking for - and more. If you want to spend less, learn more and look at some cool fish..... this is the place.

This place is incredible! I just got into the hobby, and while I was in my research phase they were very happy to explain things to me in a way that I could understand that didn't talk down to me. I visited three times before purchasing anything, and each time they took their time to answer any questions. Their fish and plants are very happy and healthy, and the tanks are clean. They quarantine any new stock for a week to make sure they are healthy, and each tank is on their own system- meaning that if the tank gets sick, it doesn't spread the sick to other tanks. I highly recommend this place! I wish I could put more stars on this review.

I was visiting from Calgary and decided to pop-in to see if there was anything of interest I would want to take home. Picked up some really nice shrimp and Chris was extremely helpful during my visit. Told him I was visiting and would be leaving that same day, but would not be home in Calgary until 2 days after because I would be ice fishing in a heated shelter. Chris offered to put the inverts in a insulated foam box, double bagged and also gave me the insulation bag they get their plant shipments in. Only 1 shrimp did not make the journey which is a win in my book. Shout out to Chris for going above and beyond when he was assisting me!

Great place- really like these guys. Their fish are well kept, prices are fair, and I have never had an issue with any of the fish or plants I've purchased from them. You may need to be patient if the staff are busy with someone else, but once it is your turn they'll give you undivided attention and rock solid advice. They have a great selection and are quite discerning about their breeders. Probably the best thing is that they are very responsible fish keepers. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy my 90 gallon set up through them. I wish my money had gone to supporting local small business rather than a chain store.

I've been coming here for years, and they've always had a great selection of livestock each time. The owner is more than welcoming about discussing fish you'd be interested in seeing in future stock of it wasn't currently available, in my experience. Definitely go here instead of big als, but don't hesitate to check both if one doesn't have what you're looking for. Plants are much more reasonable and usually more varied with Aquarium Central. Staff is always friendly and welcoming; usually having no issue if I want to be picky about a particular fish in a tank of 50 darting little things.

Very friendly and approachable staff, knowledgeable about the species they sell, and honest when they’re unsure. Not making baseline assumptions and making recommendations off that is really important, and an often overlooked detail that they’re under appreciated for. All the fish I’ve bought have been happy and healthy ever since, and I’ve found their prices to be very reasonable for the quality and health of the fish compared to bigger stores such as pet smart. They also have great bulk options for substrate and aquarium/reptile-safe wood that you don’t see everywhere. :)

I absolutely LOVE this place. Everyone is super knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and you can tell each staff member genuinely cares about the wellbeing of each and every pet that leaves that store. Now I’ve had wonderful experiences with all the staff, but Chris is my go to. He is so knowledgeable and helpful. He’s very happy to answer all my questions (which is a lot, I’m just getting into the hobby), and he never makes me feel like I’ve asked a stupid question. I will always come back as the customer service here is far better than the other few places like it.

Unfortunately this place still agrees with segregation and mandatory masking. They REFUSE you access to the store unless you are wearing a mask! You might as well ask for vaccine status while your at it. I refuse to comply with your segregation and comply with your narrative. My apologies but this is not acceptable. We have been through this the last 3 years enough is enough have you not learned your lesson? If you support this narrative by all means shop here however if not take your money ELSEWHERE!!!! This is the only place doing this these days get over it!

This is the go to store in Edmonton. Staff are super knowledgeable and there is a great selection of fish and plants. The store has individual drip filtration for each tank - no disease outbreaks from tank to tank. I recently had some problems with a Sicce filter I purchased there - I brought it in and Tuan (owner) helped trouble shoot it, ensure it was fixed and problem free and had the parts in hand too. It was a fantastic customer service experience that I wish we could see from more retailers. Highly recommended!

We love this store!!! We literally want to go there EVERYDAY. The most amazing, incredible local aquarium store in the city. Tuan, Gordon, Chris and Nicolas are beyond excellent. Aside from being knowledgeable and helpful, they are also super friendly. Most of the time, they will reply to your text immediately. The important part that they have high-quality livestock and plants. They literally share their experiences and encourage us to make decisions based on what suits us best. 10000000++ stars

Our go-to place for fish and aquatic plants in Edmonton. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, clean store, and reasonable prices. I've looked at other stores and online for fish and plants and always end up coming back to Aquarium Central. Masks are still mandatory here, but they provide them for free as well as sanitizer at the door. Some fish stores have dirty tanks and dead fish but nothing like that here. Convenient location and plenty of parking - we'll most definitely be back.

We needed goldfish for our pond. After 5 places , looking for feeder fish, we gave up and went here. They have a huge selection of fish but priced like all other stores. It ended up being $42.00 for just 6 goldfish. I miss feeder goldfish but the attendant explained that due to diseases and other issues, they no longer carried feeder fish. The service was prompt, efficient and knowledgeable. They spoke to us upon entering and thanked us for the business. Definitely recommend.

Love this place! The staff are down to earth, they don't blow smoke up your a$$. The fish are well kept, quarantined so as to not have bad stock for sale. You know you're buying healthy fish. Their ethics are unmatched. Is it a flashy store? No! Their stock is what's for sale, not bright lights, signage and teenaged staff that could care less. I'll be a return customer as I look for substance, not uppity stylish unapproachable staff. Thanks for all your help today.

Visited Aquarium Central for the first time and I am very impressed. The owners and staff are incredibly passionate about what they do and it shows. This is the place to go whether you are an expert or just getting into this hobby. The staff are always eager to chitchat and give advice. Even with Covid delays, there are huge selections of fish and plants. All the aquariums are well kept. Clean, healthy and happy. Will definitely be shopping here from now on.

Great selection of well kept, healthy fish with very knowledgeable staff. The manager is helpful and friendly. Prices for fish are moderate/fair but accessories are pricey. It's not the prettiest store but it has a good selection if you like bettas, cichlids, plecos, and small community freshwater fish. Overall I do reccommend this place, just be sure to fact check before making purchases based on advice given by a salesperson trying to sell you something.

My wife and I visited today and were blown away by the excellent customer service and knowledgable staff (Will, Nick, and Tuan I believe). Not sure what impressed us more, the size and prices of the super heathy looking plants or the incredible way they take care of their livestock. No Betta's sitting in little cups here, nope they are all in decent size tanks and well looked after. I feel extremely confident shopping here and will be back!

I had to check this place out after hearing fabulous things about it on Facebook! Steve helped me out. I got some fancy guppies, water lettuce, a sun snail and zebra snail and a new Amazon sword plant. They pride themselves on having top notch quality fish because of their quarantine practises with their fish. Extremely full of knowledge! Recommend going and checking this place out!! I’ll Be back!! Will NEVER go back to this business!! The store clerk instantly stopped me as I walked in and said "we wear masks here". .. masks have not been legally mandatory for a long time now. Once I replied, "that's your choice", he scoffed and told me I had to leave, that I wasn't welcome. Not only is that illegal to do now but it was incredibly rude!! I will never support someone who speaks to people like they are above them.

This is my favorite store in the city. Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great variety of fish and plants at reasonable prices and the plants and fish look way healthier than some of their competitors. I've had no issues with snails in their plants and I've bought so many here. Plus, I really appreciate that they request customers wear masks as well, I feel safe shopping here. Thank you so much!

I was disappointed with my first visit here. I showed up on the recommendation of a friend but they wouldn't allow me in without a mask. I do have an AHS medical exemption but I was told I was on private property and my exemption doesn't apply. I was really excited to check this place out and it's just disheartening to find out that they are enforcing masks when it's not required or even recommended anymore.

Very nice aquarium store. Amazing selection at competitive prices. They have lots of aquarium plants as well. They have unique aquascaping products and a planning area where you select your aquarium size on a bed of sand and create a layout you like. Snap a photo and recreate it at home with the purchased materials. Very clean tanks and building. Definetly worth checking out if you're a aquarium enthusiast.

Some staff definitely more knowledgeable than others, but still a great place to shop. Store is always clean, organized, and well stocked. I love just browsing and seeing all the cool creatures. Recently purchased a pair of crabs and love them! I always look forward to returning here and definitely recommend them for their selection, experience, prices, and entire atmosphere.

Our son was gifted a little aquarium for Christmas and we have little knowledge on how to care for fish. This store was recommended from a friend and it didn't disappoint. The people helping us were so knowledgeable and helped us pick out everything we needed for our tank and helped us pick out the proper fish to live together.

Went to this store today, talked to the guys there had a great conversation, then we started asking questions and the guys was knowledgeable, and gave us great advice. Purchased a beautiful show betta along with a host of other items for my tank set up They offered to give me water from their tanks in order to skip cycling my new tank and so far it's been great I also picked up some plants and they're thriving If you want a show Betta this is the place if they have them in stock..

Plenty of live fish and plants to choose from. Could have had more staff on weekend when we visited and the atmosphere is very utilitarian / warehouse but that's probably why their prices are lower than the other places. They still require masking upon entry so it helps if you go there prepared to don a mask.

I drove halfway across the city to visit this store. I’m a novice fish owner and the staff here are amazing! They’re hilarious, super informative and truly care about the fish and plants. They even treat the plants before you take them home which is so nice. Definitely recommend for newbies and pros alike

Great selection of freshwater livestock and some decent prices on dry goods too. I love going there for the advice as the owner is very experienced and is a no-nonsense type who will tell you how to fix whatever is going wrong with your setup. Looking forward to my next visit.

If you want to buy a betta, come here! They actually keep their betta in filtered, heated tanks!! The respect I have for this store is huge. They are EXTREMELY helpful & knowledgeable. They have a massive selection and are such nice people. I am so happy with my fish.

I bought 4 peacock cichlid from them, they sells them $40 each, I thought they are rare thats why price is little high, but petsmart sells them $25 each. I paid $60 dollars extra for same fishes I could buy from petsmart. I wish I visited petsmart before them.

Absolutely horrible customer service. Extremely rude, limited accessories and fish are no better then big Als. The response from owner certainly proves the review, I thought mask rule was weird at 2023 but I was IN the store watching the nastiness from staff.

These guys have arguably one of the healthiest plant selections in the city. They also have wonderfullly bold little rasboras. No cowering in the corner from these nano fish — less then 24h into their new home and they are exploring every nook and cranny.

Been coming here for years, even when I moved way East and they moved West! Absolutely worth it for healthy plants and animals and knowledgeable staff. They also have very fair prices. I also appreciate their consistent and sensible COVID-19 policies.

Too crowded with things, feels like a maze. The owner strictly enforces his draconian mask and covid policies to the point its uncomfortable. Used to come here lots but not so much now unless I have no time to go elsewhere

Bought 6 Kois from them and floating lettuce and water treatment for my newly built pond. Awesome stuff, very knowledgeable and the price on the Kois were good deal. Will keep coming back for pond stuff in the future.
