Blackbird offers a steeply priced hot chocolate which holds its own. It contained milk that tasted like 2%, but may have been whole, just warmed but not frothed fully. It was topped with whipped cream and garnish which made the first few sips rich. Near the end of the cup, the chocolate flavor began to subside. I liked the environment, warm bricky hues with neutral splashes of color here and there. The chocolate chip crossiant they have is incredibly rich and delicious compared to other cafés offerings. It needed a little bit of extra time in the oven to warm in the middle. It was hard to cut with just the fork and I'd recommend knives to be provided as well, and I wound up using my fingers which brought shards of buttery pastry all over their table and cozy green bench (im sorry!) I cleaned it the best I could. Would definitely return! If you are hungry for something substantial to munch on, I would recommend a sit down place for hungry tourists and burquenos alike. I ended up paying $11 for the pastry and hot chocolate alone, but there are several breakfast places in that 13-20 per plate and drink range that offer that Instagram-worthy foodie.

Very tiny cafe with limited seating inside and very little space to maneuver. I like the pastries better than the coffees. Was disappointed with the milk foam. My coffee making skills might be rusty but the foam texture was not right. It’s just hot milk. We got the nutcracker from the holiday menu and Jack rabbit. Nutcracker was overwhelmed by the almond flavor. Jack Rabbit was sweet with lavender aftertaste, not sophisticated or flavorful. The outdoor seating is actually the courtyard of the plaza shared by many stores. It’s nice and cute. Service was ok. The cashier took my order was friendly. I was told to wait a sec for our pastries. Then was asked to move away from the register by another person. It was a bit confusing for us firs-timer where to wait. Not the best experience I was hoping but it could just be not my day.

ordered a traditional latte, and it was probably one of the best coffees I've ever had! it was lovely, just the right amount of sweetness and milk, plus the coffee taste was still intact and bright! the size was okay, I would have preferred if the large was a bit bigger. the servers were also very nice. my only issue is that flavoured syrup cost a whole extra dollar, as did dairy alternative. I understand an extra 50c, but a buck? as someone who is lactose intolerant, that really makes going out so much more expensive! but otherwise, I'd stop in again. it was great coffee, and the cafe itself was very colourful.

This little nook of a coffee shop stole my wife and I’s heart. Yes, it sounds dramatic, but there is a romanticism that this little coffee shop holds. The decorations and art were amazing. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I could have stayed all day. The staff was sweet and helpful. The drinks were extremely creative and all sounded appetizing. I got the Black Bird Iced Latte which had Espresso, Red Chile, and Cocoa. The first sip was great but also very interesting. It took a couple sips for my taste buds to adapt and then after that, it was amazing. Espresso taste still present with the perfect amount of sweetness and spice. One of my favorite coffees I have had to date. My wife got the Roadrunner which she says is one of her favorites she has had as well. I definitely recommend this place and wish I lived closer. Great experience.

First off, the staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Bison hot; I couldn’t really taste the red chile, but it was delicious and velvety! The taste and texture was chef’s kiss Not as good as the Cottonwood or the Roadrunner though. The Cottonwood cold had subtle smooth lavender and honey flavor. Oh and the cinnamon on the cold roadrunner was perfect. Drinks 10/10. Environment 10/10. The lighting was relaxing in combination with the smooth jazz. There are options for beautiful patio/outdoor seating with water always available inside. Would recommend for both locals and out of town visitors. My kid recommended this place after studying here.

When in Abq and if you’re looking for a local cafe definitely try blackbird coffee house. It is so convenient if you’re trying to start your day at the old plaza because it is right at the entrance of the plaza. If you’re dining in the cafe itself is quite small but the outdoor seating has a garden area so grab a table and enjoy the views. The cafe has a vibrant graffiti wall for your Instagram pictures. The numerous reviews this place has is absolutely true. Their coffee is really good. Try the black bird coffee which has a mild Red Chile flavor a must try if you like something different than your usual coffee. My friend tried Bison which was light and good start for the day. We also tried the cherry pastry which was so fresh.

Had a nice leisurely breakfast. We had the roadrunner, the desert willow, a french taco, and the blueberry cheese croissant. The drinks were smooth. You could taste the unique flavors of the drinks, but they weren't overpowering. The french taco had a very flavorful, savory filling with a fluffy pastry shell. The blueberry cheese croissant had the cheese and blueberry fillings divided, so it was easy to get a bite of one vs the other. The pastry was very fluffy with a light crispiness, and it was sweet but not cloyingly so. We sat outside to enjoy the fountain, birds, and flowers. It was a very relaxing morning.

If you love chai or aren’t that big fan of coffee, I HIGHLY recommend their tea lattes. They’re deliciously smooth. I also had their roadrunner coffee. It’s perfectly balanced, not spicy or too sweet. They warm up their pastries and will serve on a real plate if you order for here. I kept coming back here throughout my trip and will come again next time I visit.

The blackbird coffee is possibly the best cup of coffee I've had ever, the combination of caffeine , dark chocolate and chile is incredible and something I've never thought to put together. The green Chile quiche was beautiful , buttery egg based filling that just kept getting creamier as you kept eating , the cinnamon roll was comfort in a roll. I've only been in America for 4 days now, but this has set the bar really high

This place was absolutely adorable. I like trying coffee places in towns I've never been to. It's all Crow/Raven themed and desert themed. The drink I got was the Bison (iced) and it was full of flavor. It's inside a small courtyard with a fountain and lots of art galleries and mom n pop shops. I recommend both the raspberry tartlet and green chile quiche. My husband can't have caffine and they were willing to make him essentially a blood orange fog.

Blackbird is super charming. Built in an old patio plaza, this cozy coffee shop feels like it could belong in Seattle. The coffee was very good, and their menu was quite large for such a small shop. The service was friendly, and the vibe was chill. I could see this being a regular stop when visiting Old Town. I would give 4.5 stars if that were an option. Blackbird was very good, but I think 5 stars should be reserved for perfection.

  • Jenna Hershberger Stilwell

My personal choice for best coffee shop in ABQ (and I've been to many). I always order the Blackbird hot latte because it's my favorite, though my husband has branched out, and I've liked the drinks he tried as well. Sipping coffee in the garden outside the shop is a dream.

We stopped for coffee. We drink ours black, so check other reviews for their special concoctions. Almond milk latte was good. The humble brewed coffee was served piping hot the way it should. Extra star for that. Pastry Apricot braid was a nice change from the muffins.

This place has been a really awesome place to visit. The food is great, especially the quiche (spinach and green chile), the raspberry tarts, and my favorite, the blackbird latte. It's crazy how there is usually one person working the register and making the coffee for like 30 plus people all at once. They definitely deserve that raise.

A cute and quaint coffee shop in the heart of the Old Town shopping district. I was recommended to try the cactus pear nectar iced tea. However, when I visited it wasn't available. I had my heart set on the prickly pear nectar and wasn't in the mood to have coffee so I left. But the pastries and coffee drink menu sound good. I gave 3 stats to be neutral as I didn't taste or buy anything.

  • Jo

Great coffee! Great pastries! Great service! I tasted the Road Runner, the Hot Chocolate, and the White Mocha. All were good. Best was probably the Road Runner. Merchandise is well priced and cool. Fun place. Easy atmosphere. If it’s not raining, outside is a good place to get school and work done. Inside is a little tight, but cozy. A place where you just instantly like the people.

Tucked into a back corner in the middle of Old Town is a true gem. After the barista's recommendation, I ordered the Roadrunner Latte. With flavors of hazelnut, vanilla, and cinnamon, this oatmilk latte hit just right. I didn't order a pastry, but the ones in the case were certainly tempting. I enjoyed my drink just outside at the table in the cool of the shade.

It's a cute shop and service was fine (though they do prompt for a tip....for pouring coffee). But the coffee is Folgers. I paid $3.50 for a small, which would have been fair for a real cup of fresh coffee. But this is nothing but supermarket quality.

In the best way possible, this feels like going to a friend’s basement for coffee. This is a nice little coffee shop that’s hidden away, but well worth visiting. The patio area is nice and in the atmosphere is very welcoming. My only complaint is that the pastries are a bit expensive, around 8 or 9 dollars. Otherwise, great place!
