Very nice owners. good coffee at a nice location. Unfortunately the place is getting busy with the “office camping “ crowd. Update 1/20/2020 10:15: Tried again as we really like the coffee. I guess the popularity of the shop speaks for itself, unfortunately no place to sit again while plenty of patrons use the shop to complete their homework or use it as a virtual office. Even the outside tables were occupied in January. On the other hand if you need to borrow a pen or a highlighter you would have plenty of people to ask. Update: The perfect time to visit is just after lunch, around 1pm (not Saturday). No issues finding a seat. Update 2023: Still one of the outstanding coffee shops, highly recommended, but another two visits in a row where all but one table were occupied by single people using all space as an office. While I understand that the owner has little influence how the space is used, I won't get out of my way on a Saturday to visit.

Castle Coffee offers what is, in my opinion, the best tasting coffee in town, whether you select a coffee specialty drink or a simple brewed cup. Recently, I began ordering their espresso. The simplicity + the beautiful presentation is a real treat. And not only is their coffee delicious, the friendliness of their service matches the quality of their product. This is the sort of place where employees know your name and show they care.

On-street parking, some free and some metered. Can park in the neighborhood if the parking by the shop is full.

While there is not a lot of space for kids (this is a small coffee shop), the employees are equally lovely and welcoming to all.

I’ve always thought good coffee was hard to come by in ABQ, but this has changed my opinion. Nestled on the north west edge of downtown, this quaint little joint knows how to prepare coffee! Indoor and outdoor seating, though not a ton. Great decor inside complete with coffee products for sale, at for sale, and even a mini record shop! And the coffee was fantastic. Day one was just a mocha, one of my favorite ways to judge a coffee shop: those starting with bad coffee usually put way too much mocha flavorings in order to cover the poor coffee flavor, but not Castle! The mocha flavoring was mild and really allowed the rich, complex flavors of their espresso beans to be the dominant flavor. Day two will be a pour over — the ultimate beans test.

This is the first coffee I had on my trip to Albuquerque from Seattle, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The first thing that struck me was the atmosphere—calm and cozy with plenty of seating. The next thing was the friendliness of the owners. After taking my order, we chatted about my trip here and Steve I think it was gave me a recommendation, even shaking my hand. Being met with such positivity and human connection was a fantastic way to begin the day. Then last but certainly not least is the coffee. Coming from Seattle, I thought it might be difficult to find coffee living up to my snobby tastebuds. Yet, their lavender latte really pulled through. It looked great, and tasted even better! It’s really no wonder why this place is so highly rated. I recommend it to all, visitors and locals alike.

Love this place! Josh and crew are friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee is great, prices appropriate, and the atmosphere is relaxing. My party enjoyed a cappuccino which was picture perfect, and a lavender latte which was supremely balanced and delicious. I appreciate their choice to have card games and books available for guests. It shows that they they want you to order a coffee, have a seat and enjoy community. You're not pushed out of this place in a rush, and there is ample seating on the patio to accommodate that goal. Treat yourself to a special experience and give this place a visit.

Matt and Josh really want you to love your drink and love your time at the cafe. Superior ingredients (They get beans from Middle State in Denver), superior techniques, and a friendly place you'll want to come back to over and over. Third wave coffee newbie? Tell them what you think you like and get a suggestion you can trust. Coffee nerd? They love the science behind brewing and will experiment with you as much as you like - last time I got a batch brew, we borrowed the thermometer to find the exact temp where the oat milk wouldn't curdle. Try the vegan burrito, and an oat milk cortado :)

This is a neighborhood place. It’s friendly, warm and welcoming. It’s Albuquerque Cool, laid back and capable of facilitating one of those special moments that speak truth to the legend of the Land of Enchantment. Corporate coffee mills grind their way through customers like industrial widget makers. They can only succeed if their volume is measured in 55-gallon drums instead of cups. Castle Coffee succeeds because they have more than a product—they have a little corner shop that more and more of us have come to recognize as a respite in the middle of the city.

Love this place! Cute ambience. We drove here straight from Phoenix and enjoyed a matcha oat latte w/cinnamon, Carmel oat machiatto, cinnamon and coffee donuts. Yum! The gentlemen working were friendly and welcoming. Tiny patio in front. Inside seating includes a conference room you can rent. We will totally come back next time we're in ABQ!

This is my daughter's favorite coffee shop and I have to admit that Josh and his crew do a bang up job of getting his regulars and first timers their daily java jolt. And while I'm not really sold on their vegan pastries (mainly because it's a culinary crime), anybody who's vegan, vegetarian, or gluten sensitive will definitely be pleased. Do yourself a favor and go early, because the line is routinely out the door. Then go do a sip and walk the local neighborhood. Oh yeah, when the holiday's return, go get a biscochitto latte. Wow!

  • Alison Schmitt

One of my favorite coffee shops in ABQ. If I lived closer I’d be here all the time. Fantastic owners and staff who are dedicated to their craft and extremely friendly and kind. Excellent coffee and real sense of community in here. They carry amazing pastries from The Witching Flour too! If an expansion of the tiny space or a second location is ever on the cards I will be excited to see that. As it is, it’s a lovely spot with simple charm offset by, apparently, the worlds largest pointillist mural. Check it out if you go!

  • Taylor Gardner

Cute local coffee spot. Set in downtown and easy to access, this is definitely an inclusive space with quality coffee and pastries! Staff was super helpful, letting us ask plenty of questions before ordering. Above and beyond, they even entertained our general questions about ABQ, like where to find the porcupines! Great experience.

One of the friendliest coffee shops I have ever visited! I was having a rough travel day and unexpectedly decided to stop in Albuquerque to wait out some highway traffic. By total chance I ended up coming here. The social atmosphere and genuine interest the staff has in their customers is outstanding. The owner, Josh, mentioned that his passion is to create a coffee shop that truly feels like a neighborhood gathering place - and he has succeeded. Visiting Castle Coffee turned my whole day around. Thanks Josh!

  • J C M

This is one incredible coffee shop. The owner and main barista Josh is a friendly and open guy who cares about you more than just as a customer. Not to mention, he makes a mean cup of coffee: there espresso beans have such a smoothe taste. I recommend the vanilla latte served hot, made with care and perfection. The space is easy to find and easy to park by. It makes great use of space for folks to hang out it, or just stop in for a quick cup. You'll be doing yourself a favor by visiting Castle Coffee.

  • Turlienna Williams (Turly)

Lovely little corner coffee shop tucked away on the northwest end of downtown. The ambience is very comfortable. It was neither overcrowded, nor empty. The staff are super friendly and ask your name as well as introduce themselves. The coffee is first rate too. I may have found a new hangout spot since my beloved bud and beans closed

The location is uniquely nestled just west of downtown Albuquerque. The owner interacts very well with the clientele and acknowledges/remembers them very well. The barista staff is experienced and friendly as well. One thing that sets this coffee shop aside from others, is that they bring the order to you rather than call your name to the counter. My personal favorite drink is their pour over coffee, but their specialty coffee is very delicious as well.

  • Ian Bahe

Amazing coffee! Homemade syrups, freshly ground beans and attention to detail are a few reasons why this place reigns supreme on the coffee scene. I’ve been a handful of times and I’ve never been disappointed. All the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. TRY THE PASTRIES! Although they’re not from Castle Coffee, they are still made by a local baker. Hands down, the BEST pastries I’ve EVER had! (She goes by “The Witching Flour” on social media)

  • Jocelyn Brazfield

Great shop! Delicious coffee. Friendly baristas. Comfortable atmosphere. Local focus. Definitely go! I don't go Downtown often but will start planning trips down there now. It was great coffee but the shop itself welcomes you in to stay awhile. I hate coffee shops that are uncomfortable, that seem to rush you out the door. Castle Coffee invites you to stay- do your work, savor your coffee, be a part of the community. It was a great experience.

  • David Kelley

This place is incredible. Delicious coffee and donuts, caring people, warm atmosphere. The owner saw a homeless, mentally unstable individual come in and his response was compassionate and kind.

This was THE BEST caramel latte I've ever had in my life. Great price & Ridiculous value. I was having a little bit of a rough day walking in and the people behind the counter was so great I honestly walked out of there with a smile on my face and that latte was the highlight of my day. I went back 2 days later and got two before leaving town just to enjoy it as much as I could while in town.

  • Anchor And Frame Stylist

this place is really quite rad! the people are so kinda and friendly. the own has moved in to roasting his own coffee, which is quite delicious! and i prefer his Ethiopian roast over the Middle State that they also sell which is one of my favorite. so great work! I put castle in my top 3 favorite in top which i won’t put in in any order. it’s not a starbucks it WAY better! go check them out!

  • Troy Norris

Stayed a couple blocks away on my train trip to Albuquerque and stopped in every morning. The coffee and pastries were always excellent, but the super friendly staff here really set the place apart. By the time I left coming in was like catching up with old friends. Downtown Albuquerque is truly blessed to have such a wonderful neighborhood coffee shops run by such genuine people.

  • Liz SC

Castle coffee offers some outstanding specialty coffee. It’s some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. Great little shop downtown run by an awesome guy. The staff is all super friendly and helpful. The shop itself is a great spot to hang out or get some work done. The area has some free street parking available. They are moderately priced for amazing specialty coffee. Check them out.

Castle coffee is the best in all ways. Crazy good coffee and the nicest staff in all of Albuquerque. Such a great vibe. They make everyone feel like a regular ❤ Also want to mention that they have vegan and gluten-free options every day.

In from Denver, I walked into this small, locally owned coffee shop with no expectations. It opens early and the baristas are fired up for good conversation about single origin coffee and anything else. A local donut shop dropped off fresh donuts and cinnamon rolls which, too, made the morning pleasurable. Above all quality coffee and a quiet atmosphere. I will be back!

Very kind and friendly people. None of that "too cool for school" vibe one frequently encounters in coffee shops which can be off-putting. The coffee is decent, depending on which barista you get, but the community feel makes up for what the coffee's (sometimes) lacking. Plus they're going to be roasting their own soon, so I expect it will only get better.

  • Alexander “A.Train” Becenti

Customer service, in my opinion is what makes a business successful. Not only does Josh and his crew know just about everyone who walks through the door but they also know how to make a delicious cup of coffee. If you're walking in I highly recommend the CINNA-OAT COLD BREW

Cute shop with a different variety of coffee and pastries. Very hipster environment. Staff is extra friendly and seem to know their regulars. Had to wait a while for my iced latte but two people apologized. Not too allergy friendly since do not have nonfat/low-fat milk and only nut/oat milk alternatives (which I can’t have).

  • Jackie O

Looking for a place with a relax atmosphere wonderful service and delicious drinks and tasty treats. Castle Coffe has donuts muffins and scones, which are my favorite. Their bake goods are gluten free. The Cold brews , ice lattes and their Teas are amazing. Come by grab a table on the side walk and enjoy a zen moment.

The staff was great, the coffee was great, and the pastries were great…..what more could I say!? So good, I visited twice whilst in ABQ. Make sure to get the doughnuts, they’re the best I’ve had since I was a kid. I’ll be sure to come back!

Lovely service, tidy space (though small), & priced perfectly for such quality product! I saw the owner say goodbye and thank each group of customers for coming-in before he left once and I can’t emphasize how wonderful it is to see such care, personable interaction, and community still in a local coffee shop.
