Called and spoke to a lady called Cathy, asked if we could book a cabin for 1 night after a recommendation, she said no, she went on to tell me the rate anyway but said I couldn’t book, I spoke to my sister-in-law who told me to ask for the same package my other sister-in-law had as she had purchased a cabin for one night at the same location in the same night I’d wanted, so I called back Cathy, mentioned this to her and she said she’d made a mistake in their booking, I asked her if i could speak to her manager, she said he’s in QLD, I asked her if she could get her to call me, her response was she probably won’t call you but will tell me to tell you her response.. OK.. sounds like an ordeal.. The next day I hadn’t heard anything so I called Cathy, I said I had t heard anything from her manager, she told me she wasn’t calling me back, so neither of them had the courtesy of calling me, even though we needed accommodation for the next day… she said my Husband had called, which I was unaware of, and still decided not to call me.. I was very disappointed with her attitude and lack of professionalism, I I’d however find accommodation at the Motel Accommodation/Appartments which was superb, amazing staff who exceeded our expectations… my 2 sister-in-laws and co have also said they won’t be going back there due to their lack of customer service. I understand we all make mistakes, but being a tourist attraction and not knowing who you’re dealing with, shame on you Cathy and unknown manager in a different state!

Let's start with the positives. It's an outstanding location, within walking distance of the mainstreet, supermarkets, distilleries and various wineries. The park is idyllic, surrounded by nature with beautiful trees and most sites well grassed. In a great opportunity for the park, there are many areas for improvement. It feels and presents as tired. The shared amenities such as shower and toilet block need an update and more regular attention. Great to have tennis courts, but they are almost unusable due to their poor condition. The tree canopies, while picturesque, need to have the lower branches trimmed on various sites. For larger vans, it can be very difficult to near impossible to fit into sites and extend the awning. The front office only accepting cash (and no eftpos provision) for ice creams seems a tad archaic. It was good to have a coffee and food van on site, but its 8am to 11am opening hours each day was strange. In summary, the park is one of immense opportunity. The sheer scale of the park is a huge asset. With considerable investment, it has the opportunity to become a major destination park. The location certainly warrants it.

So we had a 10/10 time at this caravan park over the long weekend. We had an unpowered site which was large, quiet and away from the rest of the park which was really really nice. The amenities are fine, clean, and the showers were good. The camp kitchen is a little basic but passable, only thing is that there was a horrible smell to one side. It smelled like an animal had died somewhere. No visible dirt or source for the smell but I had to hold my breath on that side of the kitchen. This wouldn't stop me from going back and I'm sure the smell was just a transient thing that poorly timed with my trip. The location is amazing! Can't beat it! Several wineries/shops/restaurants all within walking distance. The park also had a breakfast and dinner truck for the long weekend which was really nice. The pool was nice, clean and well looked after. The playground next to it was well maintained as well. The whole site had a really nice friendly atmosphere!

Staff were great and they even started the bonfire for our group. Great location. Unfortunately there were issues as follows: 1) only 3 working toilets for the whole park. They did open a campsite onsuite for us to use. 2) No cooking facilites/crockery items to use. They did provide 2 x outdoor bbq's but the gas bottles were empty. We all had to go back to our tents/vans and bring our own cooking equipment to use. 3) They did provide an electric stove top but took over an hour to cook sausages. 4) Paid for 2 x people for one campsite but was only allowed 1 x tent. We were not allowed to share the campsite!!! 5) If you did not check out by 10.31 your gate key will not work and you will be charged an extra night's fee. Even though this was a campsite and not a cabin. Overall, we had a great time with the group we were with. The park's facilities were not good. Hopefully this will improve. Will I go back, highly unlikely. I don't like giving bad reviews but there were too many issues not to.

Towed my caravan in late on the last weekend of school holidays in SA, checkin was a breeze, i called ahead and the staff had everything ready to go. Site is large enough and lovely and grassy, we got an ensuite site and the ensuite was clean and a good size. Plenty of hot water for showers. Loads of birds, shady sites and heaps of grass. As you drive into the park there is a small vinyard with sheep and a couple of Alpaca's that get fed in the afternoon (if not being naughty). Pool looks inviting and a small playground for the kids with a boat and jetski they can play on. Laundry facilities are great. Its a dog friendly, child friendly park with nice staff. Will definetely be back.

Locate good. Paid in full in April 2022 and while we were travelling in December received a email saying that we owed money. Price increases of $72.00. Had to paid after phoning them. Questioned the matter 3 times and the last office staff I spoke to said that she will email the Owner RUTH and get her to contact us. Never happened. I will never stay at another Discovery Park again. It was also reported to the gentleman that ride to 4 wheeler bike that the previous person next to my site that there’s dog dropping that needed to be pick up. He couldn’t even do that. This caravan park should be reported to the health department not enough toilets in the morning. Please reimburse the extra charge as we were not giving enough notice of the increase and were not able to cancel booking. Site 149

We stayed at the park for Australia Day weekend and were surprised at how big the park was, despite the size it was very quiet. Sites were generous sizes, with grass!!! although we nearly had a mishap when our site was changed unbeknownst to us before we arrived due to another camper asking to extend their stay. Luckily we just fit so it worked out. Kids enjoyed the pool and riding their bikes in the ample space. Dogs got lots of love from other campers. Excellent location to visit beautiful wineries in the area. Toilets and other amenities were clean and tidy. Lots of work going to to tidy the park so don’t be put off by cranky reviews. We are planning to come back and explore the area further.

This site has so much potential. Great location. The staff were overworked and well underpaid. The guests were charged premium rates - - $78 for a powered site per site and the site was full to capacity - but no extra staff for cleaning and ablution block was inadequate and filthy partly due to feral guests. Once a day cleaning was not enough. Bins were full to bursting - skip bins needed at the busiest periods. The pool was cloudy, tennis court not looked after and whole park is run down. Owners need to give as well as take! Everyone we talked to over 7 days were unhappy. We will not be going back - complaint being forwarded to G'Day Parks.

I’m surprised by the 3.8 overall review this park had, because it was one of the better parks we stayed at. We stayed in an ensuite site which was reasonably priced and the ensuite itself was great. The staff went out of their way to help us and provided great recommendations , information and discounts for surrounding wineries. There are multiple wineries within walking distance, as are grocery shops and eateries. The grass on all the sites is SO nice. It’s quiet, peaceful and plenty of bird watching available! We will seriously consider coming back if we are ever in the area again.

We use to use this park on a regular basis for both ourselves and large groups....we stopped two years ago as facilities we dirty, neglected and smelly....the camp kitchen was sparse and nothing worked.....we have just spent a weekend there and are very pleased that things are certainly being improved...managers are on site, amenities are being upgraded, non working BBQ's have been removed and new ones made available. Overwhelming smell of sewerage has gone. Maybe we'll worth another go.

Charging nearly $60 a night for a substandard caravan park which will not let you check in until 2pm The disgraceful talking down upon by Cathy because she claims that 2pm is normal check in time for all parks yet every other Gday parks I’ve ever visited are 11 or 12 check in. Would recommend going to Christie’s beach or anywhere but Mclaren Vale Lakeside if this is an area you want to visit If this is the way you’re going to be treated in this area you’re better off going to the Barossa

Great location and everything clean and lovely. However we were disappointed when our friends travelling with us wanted to book a cabin for 2 nights and we were told no 3 night minimum (even though not school hols). They ended up staying elsewhere and the park missed out on their business. There were empty cabins everywhere. Makes you wonder how you can knock back the business...

We had an Ensuite site for our motorhome and car. This was excellent. Very Green grassed area, plenty of room, quiet. Clean. There are also good unpowered sites out the back, just ask to have a look so you can pick an area. There is large grassed area great for running a dog or kids playing. An asphalt track is accessible from the back of the grassed paddock that has great walking or biking through McLaren vale vines area. Easy walk to town. Very good position. thank you.

Long term accomodation plan is a lie and discrimination. It says that they help all types of people in difficult living situations but they only accomodate to retirees and if you are working adult they will not even give you a chance. Front desk lady was very passive aggressive. Treated me like a bum because I was young. Aldinga BIG4 park, Brighton caravan park and Sturt park are way more recommended for anyone who is under middle age :)

If I’m being honest this caravan park was a bit of a flat tyre for me. Getting woken up at 5:30am by one of the biggest flocks of cockatoos in Australia is not what I imagined my McLaren Vale experience to be. I would strongly advise against staying at any of the powered/unpowered sites on the south side of the property or I would be taking industrial grade ear plugs. The showers were serviceable (nice pressure). Enter at your own peril.

  • Matthew & Frances Thomson

Tidy, but noisy. Whilst the facilities and camp kitchen were great, tidy clean and well supplied; we were not impressed with management for allowing amplifiers and speakers for a mini concert across from our tent site. All they could say was they were allowed to continue until 10pm (they started at 4pm) This was very inconsiderate for the other park uses and disappointing for us as we hoped for a peaceful night.

  • Vicki Sheppard

Very disappointing for the price we paid. Although the location was superb, we felt the amenities block was very tired and no attention to detail in the cleaning. We enjoyed our stay because it was so handy for touring but compared with the park we are now in on the Yorke peninsula, McLaren Vale need to lift their game!!

Big park, quite taken aback by it's size. Nice grassed areas throughout for van and car. Ladies toilets and showers clean, but water pressure in ladies showers not so good. My husband said a couple of men's toilets had paper jammed in them, and smelled of urine, and shower doors were a bit mouldy. However, all and all, a pleasant stay being close to the town and wineries etc

  • Travis McLachlan

Stayed there on Labour Day weekend, they crammed every man & his dog in to near capacity and we could barely get our van out when it was time to leave, amenities were average and the joint was like a dog park. Never again

Ideal location walking distance to shops. Cabin 22 was fine for weekend stay. But air-conditioned kept waking us up when it automatically turned on during the night. Need to replace the air-conditioned. Reception forgot we paid for late checkout

Camp kitchen is cold and draughty. No cooking equipment, no crockery or cutlery, all gas cookers out of order. No paper towel or items to clean up. Nice park but needs attention.

Whilst other caravan parks allow you in, for a caravan site, at midday. This park has 2 pm entry, but don't tell you until you arrive. However, if you pay $10 extra you can get in. Good trick to get extra money.
