It's cool they donate so many bikes. Really nice people working there. The bikes are very overpriced compared to what you'll find at other shops or on CraigsList. We tried to trade in a bike for credit towards a new one and they weren't willing to do that (something they should consider because other shops do that). A guy in the shop who goes there a lot told us not to get work done there because they charge a lot more than other places. We got a bike and there were issues with the tire falling off. Almost got in an accident twice while riding it. We weren't able to return it, we had to get in store credit and get a different bike. The bike selection is a lot of older bikes that are heavier and don't look great. Maybe I've just always had good luck at other bike shops and gotten good deals on CraigsList, but shopping here was not a great experience and I won't go back. I guess it's fine if you don't mind paying a lot of money for an old bike that's going to fall apart and is dangerous to ride.

Wrecked my bike on the streets of Chicago during a down pour of rain coming home from work had to get a bike quick to avoid taking the CTA. Budget was $250-$275 Craigslist- get a bike for a fairly decent price and spend another hundred on new cables tires etc. labor not included diy Online - Buy a cheap bike on line and spend another $75 bucks on replacing seat, pedals, grips etc. labor not included diy Working Bikes - Picked up a bike from their website which I knew was on the small size ... Showed up the employee brought the bike out and helped me to get this bike to work for me, couldn't be more thankful for his help. The quality of the bike and the work put into to make run again was awesome!!! You can tell the bike mechanics did their job extremely well. The bike has some scratches, guessing late 1980's frame who cares, I'm from the 1970's ... gives it some character. I have a family of 5 now I no where to go to get a good running bike at a decent price. Thanks Working Bikes!

I came in about two weeks ago, and while I did not end up purchasing a bike... The service here is phenomenal. Kiki/Keke was with me for at least an hour trying to help me find the right bike for someone of my height. We must have gone through close to 10 bikes and she was super chill and understanding about what I liked and disliked about for each bike we tried. We also struggled a bit because trying to find the right fit for various bikes was difficult. Still, this shop is amazingly friendly and it's got a very chill vibe. I highly recommend it if you're a noob and need help trying to find something you like. The only reason I did not make a purchase was because again finding the right fit is tricky, but I really felt listened to and did not feel pressured to make a purchase. The intent I felt was helpful one in which they wanted to help me find, what styles and what measurements I should be looking for in the future.

I love this place SO much. I bought my bike here two years ago and it was one of the best investments I've ever made. It stayed in such good shape and is just so sturdy and dependable. Unfortunately, I ride it a lot and don't take it in for tune ups much, and recently, my front inner tube was popping frequently, possibly because the front tire had finally worn down. The gear shift also lost a small part a while back. I went into Working Bikes at 5, and Josh changed the inner tube and tire, gave me super helpful information about both, fixed the gear shift (it's a vintage bike and they still had the replacement part!), and did it all so quickly that I could take my bike back with me the same night. When I got on it to ride it home, it was so tuned up I felt like I was riding a different bike. I am so extremely happy I went in! Thank you Josh!!

I was recommended this place by a bike store and was excited to see it and view the bikes. Upon arrival, the staff seemed slugish and reluctant to help. I asked to see some bikes but was told to decide on one to buy and then they would bring it out. I picked one, waited for someone to wobble out just to tell me it’s been sold. I asked to see another bike and the staff girl just told me it’d be too tall for me and walked away unbothered. I almost felt as if they didn’t want to sell any bike to me. The other staff girl was asking me not to lean on the laptop too much. I apologize for wanting to search through the selection of the bikes you didn’t seem to want to sell to me. Im dissapointed and will search for bikes on craigslist i guess

I bought my first used city bike here in summer. The pink hair girl was so knowledgeable and patient. She helped me pick a perfect bike, and told me everything I need to know to take care of it. I rode this bike for hundreds of miles and never ran into any problems. They would give you a test ride and you can return it within 30 days (store credits) if you are not happy with it. I went to 4 bike shops in the neighborhood before coming to this one — the prices at other places are exorbitant, most of them have very limited section of bikes, and the sellers are bit condescending because I don’t know tons about the bike. I would like to come back to this place to volunteer in the future!

I volunteered at Working Bikes for about five years now and can’t say enough good things about the staff and the amazing concept Working Bikes provides for community and worldwide. Not only does Working Bikes help empower the local community, but they provide affordable prices for bikes and help with educating people on bike safety and mechanics. I would highly recommend Working Bikes if you’re looking for a used, affordable bike and if you’re ever looking for an opportunity to volunteer or give back in the community. By far the best nonprofit I’ve ever been part of. Josh, Trevor, Amy, Lee and Collette & the whole team is fantastic. Cheers, Pickens!

OMG I just had a best experience here. Second time I have gotten a bicycle at Working Bikes and I never want to go anywhere else. Not only are the salespeople knowledgeable and helpful, but they are also SUPER patient and sweet. As someone who doesn't know a whole lot about bikes they made me feel very welcome. Kiki helped me and she was the bomb! Helped me find what I was looking for and even stayed late to help me change out my bike rack and seat and make sure I had a bike I was happy with. Just overjoyed, and spent less than $200 on a bike that I know is going to last me and work well with commuting around the city. Thank you Working Bikes!!!

Working Bikes continues to be an excellent, community centered space that support everyone riding a bike. I took my twins to make sure their bikes, purchased at Working Bikes, were adjusted to their size/height. They not only helped but also encouraged my kids to fix their own bike seats, add a kickstand and learn how to fix their own bikes. Plus, I appreciated their COVID safety precautions. They also worked to get a bike that was better suited for the specific height of one of my twins. I was so thankful for their generous time and patience I made an additional donation. Highly encourage everyone supporting Working Bikes!!

Working Bikes is an excellent organization! I went in yesterday to find a bike and the very first one I was shown was a 70s blue Schwinn! Absolutely gorgeous! I shared my story of having a blue Schwinn as a child and my bike being stolen. It fit me perfect. They let me test ride throughout the store. I was given a brand new lock for my bike and shown how to use it along with other features on my bike. Devon and her co-workers were amazing and very helpful! I will definitely be back in! I highly recommend this place to anyone in search of a good bike and great service with a smile! Thank you all so much I love my new bike!

  • Nathan Bambenek

What a fantastic experience. I’m a brand new bike rider so I felt very nervous coming in. I walked in and Sophia walked up to me immediately with friendliness. I asked her so many questions and she was happy to answer them. Very friendly service. I left with an awesome bike and they were able to add on a rack for me right there in the shop (I only waited about 20 minutes). Amazing prices and they have a 30 day warranty for things other than flats or accident-related issues. I will definitely come back here and hope to work with Sophia again. :)

Bought a sweet "urban assault ride" bike there recently. The selection of bicycles is outrageously amazing, the prices are so affordable and the staff is incredibly helpful. Kiki and Patrick were incredibly patient, kind and fantastic in helping me with my selection and answering all of my questions. Absolutely wonderful people. Working bikes is a true community of people working together to provide for our city. We might live in a big city but it feels like a sort of mechanical, creaky home away from home in there. LONG LIVE WORKING BIKES!

I've bought a bike here, bought parts here, and I volunteer here. As a bike shop, it's a great place to go look for used parts or to buy a fixed-up used bike. With the used bikes, it's best to browse on their website, because they only keep some in the storefront. With the used parts it's like a Goodwill Outlet Store. There are large bins of different categories of parts, you have to sift through and find the part you need. In general, if you can find what you need at Working Bikes, it'll be much cheaper than at other bike shops.

Bought a bike online to pick up, the order confirmation said there was a 30 day guarantee but I didn't click on the link to read the actual policy - no refunds. Anyway, the bike broke the next day after riding less than half a block and in the middle of a major intersection. The rear wheel fell out of alignment and locked up. I walked it home, took the rear wheel off and put it back on myself but it happened again immediately. Took it back and they said I could exchange it, but at this point I don't trust their work.

When it comes to great service at a very low price this place is second to none ! I brought my bike in because of my brakes going out on me and my chain in bad condition. These guys were fast and efficient took them less than an hour to get me out of there. They also were polite and answered all of my questions. Very informative staff, and all goes to a great cause , I love the fact they donate to less fortunate individuals around the world.

I believe in recycling!! Working bikes donate bikes to some countries were folks has no access to proper transportations. I admire their work. So i buy my bike here to use for homecare job in downtown. I believe as Physical therapist that i will promote wellness, less carbon foot print. Minimizing use if gas, metals, and other stuff that pollutes the might help this planet. Also, cardio exercise with bikes helps improve overall being!!

I had a great experience here. Keke helped me pick out my very first road bike and a year later I brought it in for some maintenance and I was pleasantly surprised to find her still working there. She was just as kind and gentle as she was the first time, especially with me being a beginner when it comes to road bikes. I recommend this organization when it comes to purchasing a new bike or just getting some maintenance done.

First time going to Working Bikes and was amazed at not only the wide selection of bikes, but also the affordable prices. After browsing the store floor and finding what we liked, we approached the front desk and spoke with Kiki, who demonstrated a clear passion for biking. She was very helpful, funny and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend coming here for those who are searching for a bike!

No bad interactions at Working Bikes, this time was no exception. My back wheel was stolen around the neighborhood (keep an eye on your quick release wheels), and Ace got my bike working again. Dare I say better than before. Beautiful bikes for sale, awesome knowledgeable people who love bikes on deck, and good prices. Definitely make an appointment before you go. Thanks again, Ace.

  • Sebastian Kelle

This is a very good bicycle shop. Bought a great racing bike there for cheap, in wonderful condition. I came back in because the saddle was not quite right and they fixed it for free. They also have all other equipment you might want to add, like helmets and other safety gear. The people are very competent and it's clear they love bicycles. Hope this shop continues to thrive!

Due to covid19, we were unable to walk around a pick a bike for my son. Instead we purchased from the website. Made a couple of calls before purchasing and the staff was always patient and nice. When we pick up my son bike (curb side pick up) they had the bike ready and gave us some instructions. Don't waste your time at places, just buy from working bikes. Be safe everyone.

  • Paul DiCrosta

Wonderful place. Got my first bike here and it changed the way I live. They really started me out with quality - I've had it for 8 years and with regular tune-ups, she's as good as ever. This old Trek Antelope has paid for itself a hundred times over. Go check out Working Bikes. Everyone I've ever pointed their way has been satisfied.

  • Ignacio Martinez Jr

After visiting several other bike shops looking for some cones for the rear axle of my bike with no success, at Working Bikes I found them, at a cheap price and the girl who took care of me was very helpful and knowledgeable. On top of that the good work they do for the community. Definitely will return there in the future.

  • James Sorfleet

Nice shop if you don’t mind rooting around for old parts. No real customer service and you’re not going to find much new. The refurbished bikes they have for sale are a great value. And the charity work they do is awesome. Stop in here if you wrench and know what your looking for or you need a good bike at a great value.

From my first communication with Ms Balas I was given a comfortable reassurance that my son Imran would get to cruise around. And did I mention she and her team hooked us up and I was left speechless at our bike pickup. This people are reason organizations work. THANKS again Colette & Guadia(she helped at pick up)

  • Don Sorsa

I've been a fan of Working Bikes for a long time because their mechanics are knowledgeable and fair, and their used bikes are fairly priced. They also support the cycling culture by educating young people and sending bikes around the world. If you're looking for a bike or mechanic, this is the place to start.

  • Travis Matics

Went in as a complete newb to the road bike world. Staff was crazy friendly, open, not judgemental. Hooked me up with great bike, threw on some new tires, and made sure everything was adjusted for my height. Great affordable price, half the starting price of other shops. Highly recommend checking them out!!

  • Tom Senft

We bought a 70's Schwinn tandem bike here last spring. It's really great. They put new parts on it where it needed them, and kept what they could of the original. It was priced similar to unrestored similar bikes on ebay. The staff was quick and helpful. Also, it's good institution.

  • Karl Meiser

Amaizing place that donates 6000+ bikes a year around the world. Lots of used bikes in good condition and supplies for sale to help the cause and, of course, a great place to donate bikes that need just a little work to keep on giving. Volunteers are welcome, check out their website

  • Stephanie Campbell

Long standing bike shop that caters to the experienced cyclist and introduces newcomers to the world of cycling with solid and friendly advice. This is a community and globally minded shop that contributes by providing lessons, bicycles, and spirit to the world around them.

  • Somebody's Cousin

Great place to get a good bike for a great price. The place is filled with great deals on bikes. The customer service is really great too. I was helped by Keke. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the bikes. I will definitely be back for my other bike needs.

Kiki and all the staff at working bikes have been so kind and helpful. They have a super chill ambiance so there aren't any salespeople hounding you to buy something. I'm very pleased with my bicycle. Sending many thanks to the staff at working bikes.

Great mission! Very Competent Bike Mechanics - great used gear and components and used bikes ready to ride. Josh was great, thoughtful and a very through mechanic while changing out a triple crank. Thanks Working Bikes for doing what you do!

  • alfa rossi

Incredible store, staffs are pretty nice and the whole store has a hospitable vibe. Also they have warranty on the bikes that they sell, that helped me a lot as I noticed some small issues after some days and those were fixed right away.

  • Josh B

Loving my refurbished bike! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new bike that doesn't want to break the bank -- very reasonably priced. Staff was very helpful in helping me find what I wanted.

  • Lara Kattan

If you visit, ask for Motley. She's the one I trust the most. Not with my bikes, bc she's a dog and isn't good at mechanics, but she is the world's most perfect puppy. Five stars for Motley.
