Pervasive incompetence, aggravating lack of communication. I was a member of America First Credit Union for a year encompassing most of 2018. Pretty quickly, I learned that their tellers are useless for anything that can't be done at an ATM. I once went in trying to get a letter sent to my address for address verification, a copy of a tax document, and a print out of the balance of only one account. I made the mistake of using a teller. After repeated consultation with other similarly clueless employees, he failed on all three counts. He couldn't find the tax document. He signed me up for paper notices against my wishes, and couldn't manage to print an account individually. From then on, I used the bankers exclusively. I still had numerous problems. Repeatedly, wire transfers were erroneously redirected to accounts with insufficient funds in spite of confirming that they were right on the requesting end. This incurred fines and the only notice I got was when my debit card stopped working because of mistakes made by the credit union. This required unscheduled and unwanted visits to a branch that severely disrupted plans and caused me to miss important appointments as I sat with mystified bankers who were no help explaining what happened and how it could be prevented. Ultimately, I stopped wiring money entirely. The final straw was when my debit card yet again stopped working. It was due to detected fraud they refused to tell me anything about and they gave me absolutely no notice of beforehand. In spite of my card being disabled, a charge came in a week later and they let it through. When asked why any charge would have gone through if I couldn't buy groceries and they confiscated my card, the banker had no explanation. Nor did the banker he called over to tell him how to close my accounts. Months later, I learned they didn't even do that right. I got a statement about my checking account, which was mysteriously still open. This in spite of the fact that I requested and received repeated assurances that the accounts would be closed. The employee I spoke to saw no evidence that the account had ever been closed. I have once again been assured that the account is closed. Perhaps my nightmare involvement with this incompetent financial institution is finally over. There are better banks. There are better local credit unions. Give one of them your business. Avoid America First.
While I was working with a very friendly banker named Dan.. and they were closing.. this other guy, didn't get his name, gave me a very aggressive "hey!?" When I asked if he was talking to me.. he paused, then looked like he retracted what he was going to say and sarcastically went with "yeah, I just wanted to wish you a merry Christmas" Felt like he's a guy who likes to intimidate people.. be the big guy in the room.. definitely not what I expected from America First. Contextually, what he said sounds friendly; but how he speaks isn't. Sounds like a bully speaking to someone in front of a teacher. The overall feel of the place would have been very cordial and friendly if it weren't for that employee's presence. He was acting hostile I think because I was there some 15 min after they've closed while Dan was helping me finish up. He also had a rude tone when he asked which door I came in from - to make sure it was still unlocked for me to exit, as they were closing. If he wasn't intentionally being rude and hostile he has no social wherewithal or care for how he presents himself, or his company, to the customers or people around him. I get being upset about someone coming in right before close and having to stay a little late after.. but why not just turn me away when I come in instead of letting me stay, serving me - begrudgingly, and be rude instead? I would've been fine coming back the next day instead of having him ruin my afternoon. Event took place: 12/24/2022 15:03:55 He was standing in the lobby in a Christmas sweater when I left
I've been a member at AFCU for 25 years now and I've never had a complaint about the customer service until today. I visited the downtown branch, needing a document notarized. I walked up to the receptionist desk to ask who to get this service from and was blatantly ignored. Instead of acknowledging my presence, she picked up the phone and made a call. "Ok, I can wait for her to finish her call," I think to myself. Another person soon lines up behind me to wait as well. She yammers on for about 5 minutes and finally finishes the call. I wait for her to make eye contact so I can ask my question. Never once looking up at me (though I'm standing right in front of her), she instead answers the phone again and continues to ignore me. Instead, another bank employee notices my exasperation and decides to come help me. "Have you been helped yet?" He asks. "NO, actually I haven't." I can't remember the last time I had such poor customer service at America First and I will not be back to the downtown branch again. Time to clean house and get rid of worthless employees. If this type of thing happens again, I guess I'll be moving my 30 bank accounts to Mountain America.
I am so disappointed with this credit union. On December 24th I had $500 taken out of my bank account. I called and asked that they flag the purchase because it was done in another state, and that they refund me. In previous experiences with another credit union, I was given the money back immediately. Instead, I had to wait 30 days for their Visa team to deem me worthy enough to give the money back to. On top of all this waiting for $500 to come back to my bank account, I had to cancel my card obviously. They said it might take awhile to get the card in my mailbox because it was the holidays. I understood, but when I had no sign of the card after 20 days, I called and asked what was going on. I had them cancel the card that was sent out, and when I was talking to Lupe, the customer service agent helping me, I said, "can you please expedite the card to me since I've been waiting for so long?" and her response, I kid you not, was, "Well, you should've told me that before I ordered your new card. Now I have to call my manager so that we can expedite this for you." How stupid is that! I'M THE CUSTOMER! AM I AN INCONVENIENCE TO YOU?
Please consider reading the other 1 star ratings regarding this branch aside from my review and believe it. Stay away from this branch and AFCU altogether. The brand manager doesn't care about you as a customer. They have poor customer service all around. My partner came in to deposit a check that was over 10 grand. And they told her she needed to wait 7 business days to use her funds. Her own money! And this was a check from her work after she closed her retirement account. Speaking to the branch manager I quickly noticed he didn't care. I told him we know co-workers that have cashed a check up to 20 grand the same day they walk in. No waiting, no restrictions. He still didn't care. Usually a manager should use customer service skills and atleast say "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, let me try to make this right for you. How can I help make this right for you." None of that was said in any context. Stop giving institutions your money and making it inconvenient for you with the excuse for security, policy, and regulations. Stand up for your money, its your money.
After banking with AFCU for years, I am looking forward to closing my account after the conversation I had on the phone today with Nick (who wouldn't give her last name or employee info), and the two people I spoke with online. After requesting bank statement documents with income only, I was told they would be sent over because their secure online system was down (weird for a huge banking system to be unable to send secure documents?). Once I received the link for the documents, I was greeted with a loading page on all 5 devices which I attempted to retrieve it. When I chatted with the bank, I was met with attitude every step. Nick went out of her way to let me know the bank was "doing me a favor" by getting my statements to me. You're a bank? You're holding my money. Me getting a secure bank statement from you is a favor? I am so confused. Each customer service rep was ruder than the last. Don't bother coming here. The customer service is bottom tier.
I came in 2 weeks ago because my wallet was stolen and in order to get a new I’d i need my debit card. I went in and told them this and they turned me away because they told me i needed my ID in order to print new cards. I went online to order them that way but the ones i got in the mail were the same cards i already reported stolen so i could not activate them. I called the call center and they told me i can go into the branch and pin verify over the phone so that way i didn’t have to wait another 7 business days to get the cards. I went into the branch and they were confused and not helpful, after 30 minutes of calling the call center to get pin verified the teller told me to sit down and she will bring me the printed cards in 10 minutes..... 30 minutes later the teller says that the cards will not print and the are calling the call center to find out why and I’m still waiting. Worst customer service and communication I’ve ever experienced.
THEY STOLE FROM ME! I went in to make a deposit after counting the money FOUR TIMES to verify the amount. The teller took my money and ran it through the machine without counting it first. The machine errored out a couple times and lo and behold it shorted me. I told her and it was wrong and she grab her manager. The manager was rude and told me the machine is *never* wrong and the only way to check was to open it up and reconcile all the cash. He then asked the teller is she counted the money before putting it in the machine and she LIED! She did not count it but she wanted to cover her behind with her manager. I will be switching banks after this experience. I do not trust AFCU with my money and you shouldn't either.
I purchased an Rv and this credit union had a slightly lower rate than mine so I said ok to them when the dealer offered. This bank is horrible, every single time I try to make a payment their system has an error or is broken. And says try again later. Customer service often says they can’t take a payment either. They also charge you 8$ to make a payment and there is NO way to avoid this unless you have one of these credit unions nearby( which I do not) , therefor any savings I would of had over my bank is gone since I will pay another 1000$ in fees to just make my payment. Go to your local credit union rather than this aweful choice when the dealer recommends it.
I was so frustrated with this branch today because of the way they treated me. I’ve been waiting at the drive through to deposit a check and no one bothered to answer my call while they helped the others. Then I had to pull back to the next pole in case the one that I waited at might be broken or something (despite of there is no “out of order” sign) but anyway I pulled back and pressed the call button and still nothing happening. Till I started waving to the tellers who stand behind the window who already were aware I was there then one of them talked to me. I told him that I’ve been waiting for over 15 minutes but that didn’t make him to even say “sorry”.
The drive thru is awesome, fast, and convenient, when you have to go inside, that's where that great experience stops. The tellers are still great, but trying to talk to an Loan Officer is ridiculous. I understand that they do get calls from current or potential borrowers, but some seem to go out of there way to seem busy. The branch on pioneer road is always customer focused, it takes me less than ten minutes to chat with a LO. I don't understand why this happens at this branch, but they don't seem willing to help. Go to another branch if you need help from an LO, if you just need quick banking, the drive thru is the best option.
America First Credit Union I love banking at America First Credit Union, they are the best bank I have ever used. I just wished they had high interest savings accounts. $0.98 interest for money maintained several years in savings is worthless. I could be receiving over $500 per year instead! I am moving $10,000 to PRIMIS bank all the way In Virginia @5.03% insured FDIC interest. My stock investments are making 15-25% returns. That is at least keeping up with inflation. I know credit Unions are making income off my money they are holding. Sorry America First Credit Union! Patrick Perry A Worm’s Tale® Salt Lake City Utah
This bank is absolutely terrible at what they do. I am a local small business owner. I applied for a business loan. David Doria and his inept team of loan officers totally botched my loan. Over 6 months time they told me on 3 separate occasions that my loan had gone through. They strung me along for a half year with their lies, mistakes, and bumbling. At one point, Doria literally called me impatient and yelled "do you want the freaking loan?!". Their utter lack of integrity and professionalism is mind blowing. Do not trust your finances with these fools! They suck. I am so happy I took my business elsewhere.
Very poor. I went here to open a checking account after my company helped to open hsa for me. For whatever the reason instead of opening a traditional checking account the banker unknown to me opened an hsa checking. Made deposits into as a normal, when it came time to get money out of the account the fiasco ensued. At first no one could even tell me why I couldn’t get my money out, we finally come to the conclusion that the wrong account type was opened. Had to live through weeks without my money, multiple visits, and a pile of paperwork to correct it. Very poor service throughout the whole thing.
I go through the drive to get cash and ask the receptionist how long it will take to get a new card which she replies 5 min. I proceed with my order and get cash, park my car, walk in, go through the line to a cashier, process my request for a new card which took over 5 minutes and thens asks me to wait in the lobby while it is printing. 5 more minutes go by and she comes out to tell me there are 2 more cards being printed in front of mine. Aparrently, the person I talked to has no concept of time. 5 minutes turned into 30. I specifically asked because I have plans.
My girlfriend made a mistake on the app with an online check deposit. She went to go fix it and had to talk to the supervisor. The supervisor (Ashley) started blaming and yelling at her and not being understanding that it was a mistake, my girlfriend was there being honest and trying to get everything fixed. Mistakes happen. A good supervisor would appreciate a customer trying to come in trying to fix an issue rather than putting down the customer and making them not want to come back in the future. You guys can do better.
This Credit Union is just great! They've been around long enough to have become a homegrown staple! Not a local credit union by any means, they are top ranked nationally and have worked hard and done everything right to earn that status. I have purchased several vehicles through them and each and every time has been wonderful. Needless to say at this point; I'm very pleased with them and their services! Always greeted with a smile and many know me by name, doesn't get much better than this!!
As po-dunk as it gets. We tried filing a dispute against a $300 charge. We had to go into the office to do so (unlike a REAL bank where you can handle it over the phone). After we filled out the form they had to FAX IT IN as though this was happening in the 1990s. Well, somewhere along the way, they lost it. When we called to check on the dispute it didn't exist and the window to file a dispute had closed. And that's why we're closing our account and going back to Chase.
Worst Suppot Ever! NEVER open an account with this C.U.. I moved out of state and no longer use AFCU. but, I needed a copy of my last statement of over a year ago. No one, not even a supervisor, could get me a copy sent to me. Even after verifying me, as she said over the phone... then hung up. A supervisor hung up. I have the whole conversation recorded. NEVER use this CU if you think there will ever could be a need for support.
This branch is a joke. Never enough clerks. If forced to come here for 10 years because my work banks here. Staff are dull, I've tried to explain to the branch manager the wait time is literally 20 minutes, nothing has changed. America Firat is a good bank, just STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRANCH! Hopefully corporate sees this and does something about it.
I dont know why anyone would want to use any other type of financial institution other than a credit union. This place has always been easy to work with, they are nice and friendly. I did have a problem with my card getting skimmed and they did fix it though they took a bit long to do it. That is the only reason I dont rate them 5 stars.
Worst online system I’ve ever had to use. Have no idea if I’m actually paying my car payment with this system the way it is. Charges $8 to use a debit card but takes weeks to connect a different account to pay with a transfer. And then the transfer doesn’t show as a payment to the car. This is horrible. Would not recommend to anyone.
My experience here was excellent. Just opened up an account and applied for an auto loan. Kimberly went above and beyond, staying an hour past closing time to help us with our loan. She was the best customer service I have ever received at any bank or credit union ever. I felt important as a customer and was very well taken care of.
The loan officer at this branch was amazing. We came in at 5:30 and she stayed until 7 to help us get everything finished. She even called the underwriter to make sure they got it put in asap so we could have a decision before we left. Definitely satisfied with my decision to join this credit union!
Very excellent customer service. I visited this location to get an Auto Loan for a car I was buying that was in the area. It is a very clean and nice office, the employee who helped me set up my auto loan was very friendly, helpful, and answered all my questions in a easily understood way.
Bad service. Got a new debit card, they said it'd be 5 minutes. I waited 20 minutes before going to the desk, and the guy grabbed it in 3 seconds. I asked why I took so long, and he said "we forgot about you". I love having my time wasted and being forgotten by customer service reps.
This bank is a ABSOLUTE JOKE when it come to fraud and protection. If you give anyone any merchant your bank info for a purchase and you get money stolen, AFCU will say it’s justified because you gave them your bank info. They DO NOT PROTECT THEIR CUSTOMERS ONLY THEIR INTERESTS
There is no local phone number with an 801 area code that i can call and easily get ahold of a bank rep. I tried calling yesterday and was on hold for 47 minutes before I was off with someone in the Philippines who has a thick accent and could not speak English well.
Went here to get a cashier check to pay rent and they wouldn't give me it because my ID was expired. If I was a manager I would have just said can you you just verify your social. Let's just say I'm finished with this bank. I'm moving to discover
Opened a business account here with no issues. Consistently helpful staff during their half-staff days of the pandemic. This branch is a little dated inside, but that didn't seem to affect their performance as a financial institution.
Love AFCU and have only ever had great service at each of the locations I have visited. Have had 4 of 5 of my car loans through them as well as a consolidation loan. I also really like the tech offering on mobile phone and online.
Meh, I don't get the hype. They never give me the low APR advertised on the website plus ask for a bunch of personal documents for a simple low budget car loan. Thank you but no thank you. I'll just get it from KSL.
Absolutely worst experience ever with any financial institution. These guys apparently train their employees to be jerks to customers. DO NOT give them your business or money, literally any other option is better.
Being so young, I had so many questions to ask, and I’m just grateful that Jessie made my experience so pleasant. I felt like everything I had to say mattered! Thank you Jessie for being so patient and nice to me!
I generally like this bank but I went to make a deposit yesterday and while I was counting my money to deposit, the machine ate my card! I think this is very inconvenient and it should of at least beeped at me!
Who would ever do business with a BANK? This credit union is amazing. They appear to have the best staff around, they are quick, smart and get the job done with people who care about members.
I always have such excellent experiences with this branch, even when there was an error at another branch, my local help me by working out a resolution. Everyone is very kind and respectful.
The guy said it's a big hassle to start a business checking account. He advised me to go to my own credit union. I called cyprus they set it up over the phone in under 5 minutes.
Unprofessional and untrained staff don’t know what they’re doing.if you don’t want to do your job stay home seriously.zlata was so rude and she didn’t know what she’s was doing.
Absolute rude customers, don’t care about you and don’t care to help you in any situation. Hoping to refinance some where else so I never have to deal with them again.
Awful coustmer service mich is the worst teller i have ever had. As I was trying to explain my situation she was shaking her head. I will take my business elsewhere.
They are impossible to make contact with they don't have the number for the branches they funle you to the 800 number where you must wait a crazy amount of time
Love this location, looking for my bank and here it was not with only the directions, but the pictures gave me a better insight on where it is located at.
The lady in then drive-through needs to learn some customer service extremely rude like she’s doing you some kind a favor by you giving them your money
Awful, I mean absolutely awful loan payment system. PLEASE FIX THIS. This will be the one and ONLY reason I will refinance as soon as I can.
Can I just talk to 1 real person on the phone!!! It is a simple question and it takes 20 minutes on the phone with computers and no help.
I go to this branch 2-3 times a week and love it! Everyone is super friendly. Great banking and always an easy in / out experience.
Cynthia was knowledgeable and friendly. I had several things to get done. Everything went smoothly. Never had an issue with AFCU.
Been going here for years. Always nice staff and short wait times. Support your local economy and don't use one of the big banks!
Excellent ! Bought a house and they were great about getting everything correct and delivered with the cashier's check. Thanks!
Use another America first location. All the tellers here are beyond rude and in no part helpful. Completely unimpressed
The tellers are very friendly and helpful. It feels good to walk in there and to live close to a location.
Always have had great service! Much better than the big banks that I've been with in the past
Absolutely the worst most underhanded business I have had the displeasure of working with
They were really slow to help and not very helpful when I finally did get help.
Randy Jackson thanks for loosing one you customer after 7 years. Worse service
I have never had any problems with this bank and they treat you with kindness
make a point and remove all your money from this branch today
Love the customer service and the ease of working with them.
The Manager was so rude. I don’t recommend this branch.
There is a 3/4 chance the ATM here is not working
Friendly, amazing service. You are family here.
I've been with them for years, they are great.
Great, and awesome staffs, glad I'm with them.
Drive up atm works maybe 1/3rd of the time
Great bank and awesome people to help you.
