I can't remember the last time I was in a proper bookstore. Wide and amazing selection and super duper helpful staff. The woman that helped me was lovely and had great advice for a present selection (e.g. what book the giftee was less likely to have, when it was published, appropriateness, etc.) They really go the extra mile - the dinosaur book I got was wrapped with a beautiful dinosaur print without me even asking (see picture). Will definitely be coming around when I'm in the area! Worthwhile destination - even if you don't have a book in mind, you'll surely leave with a good one.

As a local and a regular customer, I was more than disappointed today when I was denied entry for not having a mask- even though I have a medical exemption. I was “allowed to buy something at the door” and when I asked to look at the book, I was told I had to wait outside. So I left because discrimination is unacceptable. Just trying to support local business!

Love this bookstore, it's my local one and I wouldn't go anywhere else, great selection and staff are amazing. One of the best book shops I have ever visited in my life, so many books to chose from and the best part is the back of the store, they have so many information for people wanting to travel and for people wanting to learn a new language, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone 10/10 excellent service and friendly staff.

I ordered three books this morning on their user-friendly website, and they were delivered by a wonderful, friendly lady this afternoon. I am thrilled! Fantastic customer service! At what was a very busy time for them, two days before Christmas they did not have the book I was after in stock, within a few short hours they had a copy sent over from another store already for me to pick up gift wrapped and all. Staff could not have been more helpful

Avenue are my favourite bookstore in Melbourne. The Elsternwick location doesn't have the same breadth of books in some areas, but it has superlative ranges in many ways - and a cosy atmosphere. The poetry section alone is deeply satisfying, and should put other Melbourne bookstores to shame.

What a rare find, an actual real life bookstore! Avenue Bookstore in Elsternwick is stacked high with a huge selection of new releases, a wide variety of genres, and titles I had never seen before. An absolutely beautiful store, very well staffed and definitely worth the trip.

Was flung into a 14-day isolation and couldn't Click and Collect the book (didn't see on the website there was a $50 minimum for free local delivery during lockdown). The lovely owner dropped it off for free as we are so close anyways! Amazing service and very kind staff!

Best range of amazing books especially by local authors or connecting you to local history, geography or culture. The best kids book section! The booksellers are friendly and approachable and can recommend a suite of books for any bookworms

All the books I bought had torn pages inside and some were even a little bit wet or creased. People working there couldn’t care less even when showing them, they just said ‘we have lots of other happy customers, go buy from somewhere else’.

Had several lovely experiences at this bookshop. Staff have always gone above and beyond to help with any inquires. From helping with book enquiries to choosing presents for nieces and nephews. Highly recommended.

Good selection of interesting books. Courteous and knowledgable staff. Wide range of international food cooking books. My grandchildren love the books I get them from here. Highly recommended.

Good size for a local area, and not a bad selection. Staff are friendly. But be aware they do not do refunds. They only do exchanges or store credit.
