It’s been a few years now and my story relates more about humanity and kindness than it does hair, I’ll let you decide which is more important. Let’s get this out right away, the hair was beautiful! Now on to the pulse of my experience. It was prom night. My daughter had just had her hair done at a salon. It was beautiful but she really didn’t like it. I mean REALLY did not like it at all. She had an appointment at Zac’s salon to get her makeup done but she just couldn’t stop crying. We went into the salon, tears in tow, to get her makeup done. The place was packed. Everyone was looking at us. My poor little girl’s face soaked, red and puffy. Obviously we needed to explain that she just really hated her hair. Within minutes, this delightful, smiling young man says “I can redo her hair after her makeup is done if you’d like.” Two breaths later, the tears stopped. A smile came across her face as we accepted this offer. A few hours later, makeup on point and hair done fine and perfect, my baby headed to her prom.... as happy as could be. Zac became our hairdresser and our friend. I could never ever forget his exceptionally kind heart that just wanted to see a young girl go to prom happy and looking exactly the way she had dreamed she would.

There’s something magical about leaving a salon feeling like a million bucks—but it doesn’t even compare to the feeling that you get when your hair is so good—you can achieve that same feeling after you leave and go home. That’s what Zack does. He gives you practical and sound advice when you want to do unrealistic things to your hair.( Let’s face it; we’ve all wanted to go from black at home dye to platinum in one session.) He suggests alternatives that help you achieve a similar look, but with realistic outcomes. He’s honest about what will be flattering to each individual and tells you upfront about the maintenance and cost involved to achieve the look. All of these things make any person’s hair salon experience top quality, but then Zack takes it to the next level. He’s truly an artist in his craft and loves what he does. From vibrant colours, gorgeous balayage blending, layers, lobs, bobs, Victoria Secret bombshell hair and everything in between; he can do it! These qualities are what set him apart from many other hairdressers, and it shines through his vast knowledge of all things hair and his desire to keep learning! He’s compassionate and truly wants to help others feel good while also wanting to make the world a better place.

The pictures say it all I’ve been seeing Zach since he worked at a hair salon before starting his own. Last summer I wanted to get my hair colored (my natural hair is black) to a lighter color but Zach was booked out because salons had just reopened due to Covid. I went to a salon highly rated near where I lived because I was weary of my hair color going wrong and unfortunately it still did with the place I chose. My hair did not look good and wasn’t the blonder look I was going for-she had toned but realized she needed bleach for it to reach there- stylist asked me to let her correct it the following week. The result is the first photo. On top of the odd way the stylist left the color, she must have used a harsher bleach or toner because my hair felt like straw, very brassy, it was the first time my roots felt as bad as my ends, I was horrified! I gave my hair a month to recover and then reached out to Zach to see what he could do. We set up a consultation, made a hair appointment and the results speak for themselves! I’ve been going to him for root touch ups ever since and my hair is getting healthy again :) I still get compliments on my hair and I always tell people about Zach He has my complete trust with my hair!

Zack is amazing! I’ve been going to Zack for all my hair needs for 3 years since I moved to Seattle and have always been very happy with the outcome. I’ve had short hair for most of those 3 years and he really knows how to cut my hair to get the style I want. I’m naturally dark blonde and I’ve also had the pleasure of having Zack balayage my hair last month. It turned out beautifully and I have gotten so many compliments already! It looks perfectly sunkissed and naturally blends into my natural color. I’ve referred a couple of friends to Zack and they’ve been happy as well for cut and color services. Zack is also just a lovely person, so if you are looking for great hair services and a super nice person to chat with during visits, I highly recommend anyone visit Zack for cut/color/balayage services!

Absolutely love my experiences with Zack - always leave feeling refreshed and like my hair has been properly cared for. Zack's space is unique in that it is small and private, which makes the experience more intentional and personal. Zack is incredibly skilled in his craft and totally trustworthy to bless you with his artistic freedom, because let's be honest, he's a mad-scientist-artistic-genius and 1000% knows what's he's doing. This was my first visit to Zack in his new little salon, Back to Rootz, and I am so impressed! Cozy space, cozy chairs, peaceful ambiance, and best of all Zack working his magic on my unruly hair. Truly, he gives me the best short haircut I have ever gotten from anyone. Somehow he has managed to tame the wayward left side of my head which no one has ever mastered before, so that it lays down in place just like it should. Instead of sticking up and out immediately upon leaving the salon. Great job Zack!

I have been going to Zack since he moved to Seattle 5 years ago. He does an amazing job and now that I live in Portland I still make the trip up to Seattle for him to do my hair because he is truly the best! He stays on top of the latest products and he is able to give me the perfect shade of red, where other stylists haven’t been able to get it quite right. Many of my friends now see him as well because they love how my hair turns out. I couldn’t recommend Zack more!!

Zack has done my hair for almost four years now and I would not have it any other way. I drive over 30 minutes each way to see Zack and have him do my hair because he truly is the best. Zack is the best hairstylist I have ever had! I have spent years trying to find someone like him. I trust him with my hair. He did a beautiful job with my mini foil, cut and pink color! I am already getting a ton of compliments! His salon is clean and beautifully decorated and all of his products smell amazing. I will definitely be a client for life! I moved to Seattle from California about 18 months ago and it took me a minute to find a stylist that I trusted. Zack was so knowledgeable and warm and knew exactly how to cut and color my hair. I never know what I want when I go to see him, but we talk it through and he gives me his thoughts and then he works his magic. Comes out perfect every time! I travel from the Tacoma area to go to back to rootz and even with that drive, I will never go to another hair stylist ever again. Zack is Passionate about what he does. He cares for his clients and it shows with how he takes care of them. I've left his salon every time feeling on top of the world and beautiful because of how amazing my hair looked. Zack is one of those hair stylists that has really listened to what I want out of a cut and color. He is honest about what is achievable and gives his opinion too. The owner zack is so charismatic and his passion for hair shows in every guest. He has given me the best haircut I’ve ever received. He’s transitioned my hair from platinum blonde to green to blue to the most beautiful natural red.
