Rewind back to 2014. My Wife and I purchased Pancakes our Timneh African Grey from bakers. At one point after I had put a deposit on the bird, I called and asked the question to Paul if the bird comes with a vet check (There are other places that do this). Not that I really cared as a vet checkup is relatively inexpensive, I just wanted to make sure the bird was healthy before introducing a him to my other bird. At this point, Paul became angry at the question, even saying he was "Offended by the question". Then going on to claim that he is an avian vet (he most certainly is not) and carrying on for 10 minutes without even allowing me to get a word in. He was so incredibly rude and pompous that I had to end the conversation and simply deal with the other lady who worked the store. Next thing I had issue with was how the bird was clipped (See attached pic). Myself I am not a clipper but I know many are and there is nothing wrong with that. However, in this case the birds’ wings were clipped in half almost straight across. I say almost because it was clear that a pair of scissors were used and there were hesitation marks on the feathers where the scissors had to be reopened and cut again at a different angle. The actual avian vet I brought him to even remarked at how bad it was and birds should NEVER be clipped in this manor especially at a young age (Pancakes was 3 months old). OK so next gripe. Pancakes was eating seeds when we got him, even though we were told he would be on pellets. For those that don't know a seed diet is terrible for parrots (Little to no nutritional value). It too months to get him off seeds. I was almost at the point where I was going to regress him on to formula and then go back to pellets. There was no way I was taking him back to Bakers! Thankfully before I tried any sort of regression he started eating pellets. Fast forward to today and why I am posting this review two and a half years after getting Pancakes. He went in for a vet visit as he wasn't feeling well and decided to get some blood work done to be on the safe side. While were there, we thought we should get him DNA sexed as we had some suspicions and comments from other parrot owners and vets. Sure enough, FEMALE.... Sold to us and assured to be male, but no, female. We have been calling her "him" for over two years now. Paul is an abrasive narcissist, that doesn't care for his customers or animals, who doesn't even seem to even take pride in his business. I strongly recommend not using his store as a point of purchase as there are much better options that offer friendlier service and much more ethical business practices.

My roommate had called yesterday about concerns she had over her birds. Her being a first time bird owner, decided to seek some advice from what she had observed to be a well reputable bird store. Not only were her concerns dismissed as bad ownership, the man she had spoken to had said the food in her possession was all "chemicals". Since she didn't purchase his clearly superior, hand mixed bird food, it was obviously the major contributor as to why her birds are unhappy. Proceeds to then have a tantrum, as he was informed her birds wings are not clipped. Maybe an indicator as to why a bird in your care "mistakenly" had its wings clipped. But to my absolute disgust, he had the audacity to say to her "I feel bad for your future children, if your birds are any indication on how you treat something in your care". First of all, if you repel women, just say that. Secondly, I have read many of the negative reviews on this page, and prior to that conversation I had never had a bad experience in your store. This comment is not only revolting, but highlights the hatred you have for inexperienced bird owners. I assume you find it hard to imagine that every bird owner is inexperienced at one point. Just because you may not agree on how owners tend to their animals, does not make your own practices the only correct way, entitled to comment on a woman's future to have children, or the ability to speak to someone asking for guidance in such a degrading regard. I look forward to informing everyone I know about this store, and the vile comments made by this poor excuse of a man.

I decided to try this place out and was quite happy with what I saw. All the birds looked to be in good health. I came at the right time to see some of the food being switched out and it looked like a healthy meal for parrots. I love the selection and price of the perches. I feel the toy selection was a little limited but I think that's more my bird being picky than their fault. My Trinity ended up immediately loving one of the toys I got her so money well spent! I had a lovely chat with the gentleman behind the counter as he rung me through. He reaffirmed one of my decisions on caring for Trinity that I had been a little unsure of My only real complaint is how far away this place is from where I live. Still, it's a small price to pay to support a business that's knowledgeable and cares about the animals it caters to. I would recommend anyone looking for a parrot pet store to check it out. The gentleman behind the counter can come across as "rude" to some people but I find that this does him a disservice. He's passionate, straightforward, and not bound by the customer service rules the way other stores are. I respect how genuine he comes across.

This bird shop is a must see if you are interested in adding a bird into your life. I walked into this store to find myself being greeted by all types of birds. It was an amazing experience! My impression was wow! The size colouring and conversation with the birds from this shop is not like the birds in the pet store. If you research the type of bird you are interested in, most books will tell you what to look for in a bird that is well cared for, and the birds in this store check all the boxes. I was immediately greeted and as I looked around the store was asked if I needed assistance or had any questions. The genuine conversation I had with Paul was much appreciated. This is an experienced man and he is a wealth of knowledge. There is so much to see in this store and I recommend that you have the time if you are planning on a visit. I wanted to spend more time there but had other errands to run. The people in this store deserve to be respected and understood. This man loves his birds. I can’t wait to go back!

We went in specifically for a hand fed budgie. We found one that my wife really liked. But before we made the purchase store clerk said we HAD to buy a small holding cage cause they didn't provide boxes. Then they said we HAD to buy their food cause it was the only food that the budgie ate. I found this quite ridiculous considering one of yhe bags was pellets. Birds are known for not liking pellets and this budgie has not eaten it since. But I went along with being pressured into buying these unnecessary items not for the store but for my wife. She seemed to love that bird and hand fed birds are hard to find. Never the less we'll never step foot in that store again. If you buy a bird from there you'll walk out more then you bargained for!

We've gotten 4 of our 5 budgies from Mr. Baker (2 of them were rehomed to us, but were bred at Baker's) and we absolutely love our little buddies. As new bird owners a year ago, we had so many questions when picking up our birds, and Mr. Baker was patient and answered every single question. To the people complaining about the loud noise.. its a bird store, birds scream if you didn't know. Especially the bigger ones like African Grey's and the Macaws that are there too. We always enjoy visiting this store, and seeing all the different faces. We'll always support Baker's and Meikas! Shop local.

I went to have my budgie's beak and nails clipped. They caught that my bird was missing several minerals in her diet and which could have cost me a pile in vet bills, so I'm very thankful for that. The gentleman there was very patient and helped teach me about proper nutrition for my bird and I've got my whole feathered crew on a new diet that will hopefully keep them all happier and healthy. They were also very kind to my daughter and showed her some baby birds in the store which she was very excited about :) this place is awesome and I would highly recommend it!

Our first time visiting Bakers was not what we expected. We expected a typical pet store and got the opposite. There were so many birds that I couldn’t guess the names for, the gorgeous macaws at the front door seemed fake until they moved. We were thinking about getting a friend for our budgie, we saw colours of budgies we had never seen before. The owner certainly had vast knowledge of birds and told us we could get a cockatiel as a buddy for him of course he was right, they stay side by side(new humans are scary-fluffy bird). Definitely would recommend!

My Hahns macaw “Moe” needed a place to stay for a few weeks while I worked. I’ve been in Baker’s a few times for food and toys in the past and was quite impressed with the variety of .. well everything, from supplies, food, toys etc! Just a great store for bird lovers. Anyway they also (thankfully) provide bird sitting. I was thrilled with the expertise, cleanliness and care that was given to Moe while we were apart. He’s healthy and happy.. I would definitely recommend Baker’s for all your avian needs. Thank you for taking such good care of my “Moe” :)

I had grown up with birds, and decided I wanted to adopt a parrot as a family pet. I had an idea of what I wanted, but the staff educated me on what was the right fit for my family. I would have never picked an Indian Ringneck on my own without their guidance. We are so happy with our choice, and Pepito fits so well in our home, and with my children. This place is an adventure...even if you're not looking to adopt, I would suggest you visit just to see all the amazing parrots.

I got a baby bird. Although I loved the business. I hated seeing all those beautiful birds caged up. So I didn't fail to say hi to each one and talk with them. My experience was good. The bird I got was so good. Please please don't buy birds for children or kids the bird will get forgotten or neglected and yell scream to get attention from you today's busy lifestyles are not good when you have a bird. It won't get attention and love it wants and needs

I went in to the shop today to inquire mainly about africam greys. The individual I believe owned the store was absolutely amazing. He took a good 30 mins out of his day to talk with me about different birds and gave me his honest opinion regarding everything I could ask. When I get a bird these guys 100% have my business. Very professional and you can tell they really really care about their birds.

Absolutely love this place. My kiddos and I could go there everyday!! The people who work there are friendly and are very knowledgeable. We bought our love bird there and now looking at buying a Indian ringneck. They also have the best bird toys and treats. We will continue to support local!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Brought my 5yr old Caique here for his 1st wing clipping. I was nervous how he would react to the whole experience but everything went great. It was a quick visit, clean clipping and an over stress free visit for him. I also finally found a foraging toy my Caique won't destroy which was a good bonus.

If I could put less than 1 star I would! My wife and I went in to inquire about switching the birdseed to one with less waste for the backyard birds. The girl that helped us showed us the "best birdseed" for the birds in our backyard. Based

I was there for my first time today. I did notice the numbers of birds in the store but I also realized lots of the birds were being boarded there by owners that are on vacation. The owner seemed to be a very forward man but knowledgeable

I'm not going to review the owner/staff (all two of them) other than to say I agree with most of the reviews on here, they are not friendly, nor approachable!

  • Isabel Peñaloza

we usually take our bird to be taken care of when we are away. You can tell they love what they do, and how they take good care of the birds.
