It doesn't look all that big but it has all these stores and services - Barber, hairdresser, bakers delight, boost, skin care clinic, Coles, Woolworths, bws, Liquorland, shoe repair, phone repair, eb games, coffee, jeweller, flight Centre, fresh fruit & veg, seafood, butcher, poultry, gong Cha, house, nail salon, beauty parlour, massage therapist, JB hi-fi, Kmart, lord of the fries, Asian grocer, McDonald's, mycar, OPSM, Specsavers, Optus, priceline, roll'd, Schnitz, Telstra, zambrero, lotto stall, child tuition centre (Kumon). Pretty decent parent room too - 2 toilets, breastfeeding couches with curtains, working microwave, little play area, change tables and bins... Plenty of free uncovered parking, it's a pretty wide area so perhaps think about the shop you'll likely make the biggest/heaviest purchase and park closer to it so you're not carrying something too far.
Many years since I've been to Barkly Square but I found it largely untouched although some things were improved. The whole centre seemed very much cleaner and better maintained than I remembered and some of the new store have improved the balance of the centre. Went to pick an online purchase at KMart with my daughter and granddaughter, the centre is easy to navigate so we weren't there for very long. My granddaughter stopped at the greengrocers and commented on how big a peach was, the owner overheard her and gave her a couple to take home, it felt like a real old fashioned community action. The whole centre feels very community oriented, lots of local information seemed to be available and lots of older groups shopping and chatting. A lovely centre
I love Barkly Square!! Everytime l visit it, l find it more renovated and beautified. I love the food displays, the grocery store variety, Kmart, the little cafes and the funky vibe. There are some great little shops and everything looks well merchandised. As l have worked within the Retail Industry, have a good eye for shopping setups and displays and l like the modern, multi-cultural vibe. There is something for everyone. All ages flock there. Keep up the awesome standard!!!
Good place to pop into if your in need of anything. Supermarket, Kmart, lord of the fries and a Macca's alongside many other stores. Fresh food market if the main grocery stores aren't your thing. EB games and doggy friendly, they have a park your pooch container if you want to spend longer than anticipated there. Also the entire place has free WiFi. Over all a nice nook to get your basics and relax before heading off again.
Has a great variety of shops but at the same time it's quite small so you can get every thing done quickly. For its size, it's impressive because I pretty much get 90% of my goods from Barkly Square and it saves me going to a larger mall where I have to park miles away from the shops, walk forever between one shop and the next, and getting distracted! For me, this is the more efficient daily shopping destinations...
The evidently sarcastic spoonerism "Sparkly Bear"; is how locals refer to this poorly supervised shopping centre. After moving to the area 7 years ago; every one of my visits since has involved an encounter with a loitering middle-aged male miscreant Aside from the obligatory fast food, supermarkets & JB Hi-fi; the only redeeming feature of this place is the street art you pass to enter it
I enjoy doing my regular household shopping at Barkley Square because (to put it) simply.. everything I need and want to purchase is under one Roof and at Ground level.. important to and for an Older Person, such as myself..plus I enjoy the various retailing personalities as well.. gotta enjoy the household shopping for me and The Cat …
It's hard to give Sparkly Bear anything but a 5/5. After all we are there every second weekend. The carpark can be challenging due to a maze-like structure of dead-ends and bottlenecks. Highlights and regular attractions include Sushi Sushi Sushi (third Sushi was a copy paste error), excellent beef butcher and eggcellent poultry shop.
By chance I happened to come across this small shopping centre. Despite its size, it has an interesting array of stores. There is Woolworth's , K-Mart and McDonalds. A nice place to chill out. I had lunch at the Vietnamese Street Food outlet. The food was mediocre but the service was excellent. Definitely worth a repeat visit.
A decent medium sized shopping centre. It has your basics covered and some smaller speciality stores here although it's probably lacking in some good places to eat inside the shopping centre itself, if you want to look elsewhere, you have to venture outside somewhere to your liking.
It's amazing how much this place has changed over the years. It's quite modern now and in general has all that is needed in Inner Suburban Shopping Center: Both Major Supermarkets, Kmart, Chemist Warhouse and a variety of Fast Food Chain stores and some Local Shops as well.
Not a bad shopping centre but beware shopping at Coles on the weekend. It is hellishly busy and it's a stressful experience. The middle of the centre has some nice, low priced restaurants. There's also an outdoor movie screen which occasionally show movies.
Quaint Village vibe while still having the essentials like Coles, Woolies and Kmart. Close to public transport via both trams and bus routes. Also Lord of the Fries is the best and all vegan, so I'm going to have to give Barkly Square five stars!!!
1 star for the car park. Arrows, and bay markings faded and completed ignored. Mums with prams - good luck trying to work out where you can park. Tip: Drive and walk carefully. Look both ways because anything goes... Updated: Massive potholes!
My youngest daughter moved to Brunswick to live. So we are helping by shopping, etc. Wow! Barkly Square ticks the boxes for a terrific local shopping centre. It's got the Major stores, and the gourmet food stores, and the coffee shops, the
Always nice shopping - 1 Star for MC Donald price hiking!!! MC Donald get luxury now ! Price got to high know! Special for Chips + Nice Chips for good price by Fish and chip Shop ..always make fresh and crisp... Only missing Mayonnaise...
Been going to this place for years. Despite its small size, Barkly Square has a variety of nice shops to choose from as well as places to eat. My only complaint is that it could be a bit cleaner but, regardless nice shopping centre! :)
Wow. Just wow. Absolutely j’adore Barkly square. The produce, the variety and best of all the honeys. I always see at least 2-3 absolutely stunningly handsome men. I try to go at least once a day for the eye candy and bulges …
Busy shopping area with some small shops and eateries to the larger Woolworths, Coles and K Mart. Ok area to sit and eat from one of the many food options, outside. Sometimes you’ll get a piano song or two while you eat.
Good variety overall. Coffee shop could stand to stay open later. Bummer that the Italian Deli closed, although the Coles at Barkly Square has a reasonable selection! Good for phone accessories!!, like covers etc.
The grocery fruiterer here is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced as well a great selection of fruit n vegetables and nuts pasta milk European biscuits he also puts out $2 bags on special very nice.
My local since it opened. What a lovely space. Yesterday as I was sitting in elderly man turned up out of nowhere and played the piano. Just like that he disappeared among the crowd. What a lovely community!
Nice little shopping centre. The 4G network is quite poor inside the building! If you need to load something on your phone for your shopping, it might be good to load it and screenshot it before you get in.
Nicely placed mall near a busy road (Sydney Rd). You can utilise the free parking space when you wanted to access any stores around this mall. It has interesting cup disposals spots.
Parking was very difficult I ended up parking on the street and walking to the centre. There's plenty of shops and plenty of people. I found what I needed fairly easily once inside.
Amazing diversity of elders youth and all different folk a bit busy at times not a place to hang around but if u need to get your grocerys not bad jb is good has an eb games now
I'm so glad this my local little shopping centre. Sure, the Woolies sucks but it's super convenient to have Coles, Kmart and more this close to home.
Great place to park for when you want to spend some time in Brunswick. Nice and clean facilities! Everything you could want grocery shopping wise.
Nearly always come home with more than l expected to buy at a reasonable price. Sadly though the big specials are more on the non essentials
Ok for a local. It's not the most kindest area however everything is there, along with night life later on if U want an area go Brunswick.
Lots of good shops here. Easy to access by tram. There’s also a decent amount of parking out the back, and clean public toilets inside.
Cute little shopping center with funky seating and out door dining options. Different eateries, grocery shops and specialty stores.
Love Barkly square it's got all the shops compacted together not to much walking out door area clean toilets good eateries …
both of the disabled toilets are locked or out of order, making sparkly bear quite unaccessible for some. quite disappointing
I would rather come here than High Point, there's lots of parking with plenty of exits. Lots of shops, friendly environment.
Finding parking closer to BSq. could be challenging. If not an issue then it's pretty well planned location and spread out.
A real buzz on a satdy morning. Has everything you would want or need and is close to other quirky stores on Sydney Rd
2023: Barkly's just had It's 40th birthday and it's gone through a very colourful revamp over the last 15 years alone.
This shopping centre certainly has changed over 20 years. It is now full of trendy shops and interesting food
Jbhifi is great at Barkly square. And Woolies has a fantastic range and good prices. Lovely shopping there.
Said they was gonna deliver at nitty time but they didn’t so we had to eat an aldi chicken noodle
We were on holiday, it's very butiful and little market for everyone, specially the fish shop .
Good to shop but it's heavy traffic on the route... For quick shopping this is not preferable
The food was ordinary, very expensive and the staff were rude and unhelpful, will not go back
Just an average small local shopping centre in Brunswick, nothing to get too excited about
Got it all! Live music from buskers good food and plenty of shops. Recommend Rays bike Cen
It's changed a lot over the years. I still love it, though I do miss the old newsagent...
Always A Good Shopping Experience Great Range Of Shops Especially For Food Of All Types
young girl named alisha made my mocha and she did it incredibly …
Great shopping centre. Lots of wonderful people to talk to. and great shops.
Can't believe this is the same Sparkly Bear I "shopped" at in 1990`s!
Barkly square has always been one of my favourite shipping centres
Great community and shopping center but not in a good location
Too many U.S.P's or NPC's whatever you wanna call em'.
Not a lot of choice, but clean and has all the basics
It's my current local shops, popular & varied
Nice and small mall in Brunswick area.
Not too bad for a quick shop
