New location is smaller and YOU FEEL IT! The moment a bunch of moms and nannies came with strollers, navigating the store became a maze and you basically have to move every 5 seconds when someone else needs to get by. This location also favors certain book genres over others or divides them in confusing ways. Manga has a whole wall, while comics only has one shelf . . . But not really? Graphic novels for adults and LGBTQ+ community are by the YA books. Meanwhile any book that I guess a kid could read is in the children's section. So technically there is more than one comic shelf, you're just gonna have to walk around and guess which section the book you're looking for is in. The craft section was my favorite spot as it had a variety of books on different crafts I liked and wanted to explore. This included knitting, crocheting, needle felting, woodworking, paper flower making, embroidery, and more. With only two shelves now, a lot of crafts are no longer represented, while the current selection is miniscule. And to add insult to injury, the craft 'section' is right next to the elevator. If you like cooking, fiction, biographies, photography, or self-help books, then you'll probably still like this store. Or if you have kids, there's a large section for them, but it's not as spacious as the old store so it's best not to sit around.

The new B&N location is beautiful (but a bit compact). I love that the shelving design has most books with their cover facing out so that you can see so much more at once and spot interesting things from afar. This works best in the fiction section where there’s plenty of room to stand and get around other shoppers. However, some of the other sections are too narrow and have tables in the middle, making it feel like you’re pac man and the shoppers waiting to view the shelf you’re at are ghosts :) I’ve only visited once so far, but a few different times I had to walk away and come back to a section because there was no room. I do miss the carpeting and wider aisles at the court street location because it was easy to find a spot to stand and browse and relax without being in the way and felt like a comforting place to be for a while. No café isn’t the worst thing, but it would be great if a public bathroom became available. Also hopefully in the future, certain spots can have fewer display tables with redundant books, and there might be more room to walk or sit. The staff is always really great and I’m so happy there’s still a B&N in downtown Brooklyn!

At the old place on Court street, you’d find kids in the aisles with parents and Nannies, adults perusing the selections and tutors at the cafe. You had access to a bathroom so you could stay a little longer if you liked. I used to go there once a week just to check out and get new books for my classroom. At the new place, there is no bathroom- (screw you normal bodily functions) no cafe to grab a drink, barely any spots to sit, and no easy access elevator if Heaven forbid you want to take a stroller inside. There’s not even carpet to give even a semblance of warmth to the place. Whoever made this decision clearly didn’t realize or didn’t care about the customer experience. I used to spend easily $50-100 a week at the old place- I haven’t spent a dime at the new one ‍♀️

Edit 2/7/23: I will add that I’m raising it a star today after seeing a couple of chairs on the first floor. But I still say that it was difficult to navigate the space without eventually having to move because I was in the way. I get that B&N wants to stay in the area so badly, but isn’t there a better space? Somewhere else close by? And I miss the hundreds of books everywhere. The selection is just so much smaller now. ☹️ Whoa. It’s deceptively “nice” looking, but B&N might as well lay spikes on the floor. They don’t have a cafe anymore, nor carpeting which makes it feel extra sterile. Store is considerably smaller and harder to navigate. Just really off putting. I miss the one that was on Court St. I hope they aren’t doing this to all the B&Ns.

I went and asked for Herbalism books. The male at the register asked “is this nonfiction?” I said herbal medicine. I showed him on the B&N website that the specific book is available at this location. He said his system is down. He said it could be in two locations. We went to one and I kid you not staring at one shelf for me hat seemed like five min. Then he decided to look at another location and then found it. The website also showed coupons available for online and in store I showed him. And he said that’s only online. I said LOOK, it says for both online and in store. Then he says I can make an exception and I need to go to him to check out. And no bathroom. The space is small. Underwhelming service.

Only a bookstore. Very Boring vibe. It went from a friendly environment to staff gathering around chatting, then choosing some customers to follow around instead of asking if customers need assistance. I do not like the new staffing structure and environment. I missed the way it was at the old location. I could grab a cup of coffee and a cookie and dive into my new book. It also was such a breath of fresh air to look outside. The new location is gloomy, almost depressing. I’d rather shop online than succumb myself to such experience. Hoping to find a replacement in the area.

Love this brand new BnN - never a fan of the old location. This one is modern, clean, and the staff is great- super helpful and fun. I can see why there isn’t more seating. I went in the other day and a woman grabbed a book off a shelf and started creasing back the pages as she perched - not a lending library but okay. Love the LEGO selection, although that area is a little cramped. For me it’s better to avoid weekends if you’re not a fan of mom’s supplying “life lessons” for kids ha. Again- shout out to the staff - we appreciate you.

Sterile, modern, without cafe or public restroom. It’s disappointing that the large bookstores in the city are downsizing and becoming less inviting. Like the one that opened on 3rd Ave uptown in Manhattan, B&N is moving away from the comfy, welcoming spaces that invite browsing to modern and sleek stores without seating or places to sit and browse. What if I purchase a book, where do I sit to read it? I want the Court Street location back.

Other than "No cafe", I would also add one thing that I couldn't find the notebook and pen sessions as well. Two of them are the main purpose I visit the Barnes and Noble. They do have plenty of nonfictional, theoretical books I like, but I could get it from any other book stores or from online shopping. What B&N stands out, for me, it's those two things I just mentioned. Sadly I couldn't find both in this location.

  • Laura Isherwood

I like the look and setup of this Barnes & Noble. However, this location doesn't have any restrooms available. Additionally, Barnes & Noble no longer gives educators a discount, and at $30 a book, that makes it impossible for me to want to buy more than just a single book to support the store. NYC is expensive enough as it is - all the more reason for me to continue getting books from my public library.

  • FERNANDO VASQUEZ

I just popped in for about 5 minutes and really didn’t like this new location. WAAAY smaller than the original location down the block and seems harder to get around on the inside. Looks nice from the outside and also looks nice on the inside, but I much rather their other location. Also, this new location no longer has the cafe section. I really don’t see myself coming back to this new location.

  • Marli Mata

I love B&N. This is their new location on Atlantic Avenue. It is a beautiful place where you can go thru their aisles and never get tired of seeing their great selection. They have 2 floors and lots to browse with the more random layout. Although I love the aesthetic, I feel it's a little colder and not so cozy if you want to browse books, sit and spend some time there before you buy.

  • Tramaine A Yzer

This Barnes and Nobles was a cozy spot to just stop by and have some time to read. As soon as you enter you can see the NY best sellers. I actually had to go to a restaurant, but I was too early. So I stopped by this Barnes and Nobles to get some books I’ve wanted for a while. The books are very organized. Follow me on IG for more travel adventures @naturalhairtraveler

Sad to see a Barnes & Noble that I've been going to forever move to a new and smaller location with significant changes in its overall look. I was born and bred in the city and seeing these changes reminds me of all the changes that are happening in the city. It takes away from the experience of the New York I grew up in.

  • Carlene Wright

Oh my. I love it. Though I was a huge fan of the previous location, I truly love the feel and ambiance of the new location. I do wish there were more sitting areas. And the location is still surrounded by tons of eateries. So take your book to go (purchase first ) and find a nice place to eat, sip, and read.

  • Stacy Duran

Wonderful, I personally love the Barnes & Noble on 14th street and I find that this particular store is alike to that one, just condensed. Which makes it nice for people like myself that get easily overwhelmed by the crippling stress of making a choice, lol. Lots of lighting BUT there is no restroom.

  • Kris

It’s a shame they swapped out the Barnes on Court St. for this… a smaller boutique style Barnes missing many sections, no coffee bar, no seating. It’s more for show then the neighborhood staple it used to be. It looks like they’re trying to appeal to the wealthy. Very cold. Not worth the trip.

  • Kate Hedrick

The new location has a horrible ambiance. It took all of the spacious comfort of the old location and replaced it with the sterility of browsing Amazon. Very little seating, no bathroom or cafe. A good reminder that I should just stick to local independent bookstores.

  • Bryan Paredes

  • Sakinah A.

It's smaller than the store on Court Street (which is now closed), there's no public restroom, and no cafe, but it's a beautiful building. The children's section is on the lower level; music is located by the registers. Staff is helpful and patient.

  • Joshua Liu

I love the new location and much prefer the updated design. It's bright, modern and nicely laid out. It's got two floors still. There are a few great local coffee shops just steps away. Devotion is just a block away, and support small business.

  • martha richards

Not enjoying the new space - seems sterile and no bathroom or cafe. Smaller with a helpful staff but I don’t look forward to visiting as I did in their old space. I’m spending more time at other local shops where I feel more at home browsing.

  • Robert Young

New location from the nicer bigger one around the corner. This one is small, modern, city ambiance… it looks nice. It’s easy to navigate and still has a nice feel. Staff was helpful and nice. They no longer carried what I was looking for

  • Theresa Lyde

I gave this location a one Star ⭐ due to the customer service that answered the phone when I made a purchase said that my Barnes and noble card was not active and I had to call the 1800 number and it was active very inconvenient.

  • Miguel Figueroa

This location don’t have barely books on real estate and computer programming!! I recommend corporate to do a better job for more book selections ! I’m very disappointed what Barnes & Noble has become in the books business

  • RaeAnne Jones

This is a nice Barnes and Noble. I prefer the ones with a Starbucks and restroom. There are coffee shops nearby. It's a good location for food and shopping. The store itself is very pretty and the book selections are good.

  • Gab Toro

This place is TINY. It’s nothing in comparison to the original one on Court St. They don’t have a cafe or even a bathroom! It’s so hard to navigate and doesn’t feel like a barnes and noble anymore. Sterile and unwelcoming.

  • nicole

Loved the Barnes and noble on court st bc it was so big and had the cafe and seating. Don’t love the layout but I’m getting used to where everything is. Besides the smaller size of the store it’s still super nice

  • Lisa Calhoun

To begin with This is a new location and I have to getting used it. Secondly, there no bathroom for the customers. They're would refer you to trade Joe's to used the bathroom In conclusion,Overall nice place

  • SBrit

Average Barnes & Noble. Although compares to the location that was on Court Street, there is no Starbucks or Public Restroom. This location is smaller than Court Street, but good overall.

  • LaVonne Wright

Love the new location and layout of the Barnes & Noble on Atlantic Avenue & Court Street in Brooklyn. Brightly lit, lower level, genres clearly marked, and the books beckoning to be read.

  • Secretary Jackson

Went for the first time with my Son since they moved to new location..Pretty nice inside different but not as big as the one on court street where it use to be ,no escalator..it's cool

  • Krystine Brown

Staff is nice, but the layout is terrible, with no bathroom, no cafe, and barely any room to move. It looks like it's pretending to be a mom and pop shop but lacking the charm.

  • JAM Brooklyn

Lower level not handicapped accessable as of June 17, 2023. Don't know if they plan to install an elevator or escalator. The Court St. B&N that this store replaced was bigger.

  • Nadia M

i prefer the old location. This one is smaller, there’s no cafe or seating now but there seems to be a larger selection of books. i wish it stayed open a bit longer though

  • Derek Villorente

The Barns & Noble that was on Court St has moved to Atlantic Ave. It is a lot smaller than the original one with no cafe or bathroom. Customer service is still very good.

  • Gabriele Schafer

As a local author, it saddens me that there’s no “local author” section and no interest in one. It would both support and build community in an ever alienating world.

  • Rebecca F.

Hooray....They finally fixed the elevator after almost 3 months!!! Was able to accompany grandchildren to the lower level and assist them with book selection.

  • Didia Domtemi

No public restrooms here. The library is clean all the time, the workers are friendly and ready for helping. Beautiful books and affordable prices.

  • Mish

Their new location is cool and only a block away from their previous one. There is an upstairs and downstairs. I found what was looking for and more.

  • Dan E. L. Howden S.

The new location is beautiful. The only thing missing is Starbucks. Was disappointed in that the move left no room for even a small section for it.

  • Elisabeth Nouel

Très belle libraire beaucoup, beaucoup d'ouvrages. Il y a même des traductions ! Molière et Racine traduit en Anglais ! Ca doit etre rigolo

  • Adati Tarfa

Well organized and has a broad selection of genres. Also good for young adults and children. Loved their over the World collection.

  • Fiona Overcamp

Everything a Barnes and Nobles needs to be. The modern look of this new location sets a high standard. Very helpful staff.

  • Daeshawn Kenway

It's a shadow of the previous location. But the book selection and Legos are still present, and that's all that matters

  • john campisi

Found the book I wanted. More manageable than prior incarnation. Almost an old time book store with modern update.

  • Sharm Colter

Not as good as the old location near the movie theater. Way smaller and the checkout is in an inconvenient place.

  • Rachael Kraft

I miss the feel of the old barnes and noble! (Not to mention the bathrooms, cafe, and non-overpowering lighting)

  • MissPinkBerry W
