I've been going to Bayou Bicycles for years. Sadly, the service has deteriorated markedly. Dropped off my bike in late April/early May for a "tune up" and the addition of a headlight. Matthew seemed conscientious. He informed me that they were very busy during this covid19 time & the bike may not be ready til June. Told him "No problem. I get it". Got a call May 26 that my bike was ready. Went to the shop and it was not. There was no headlight. After searching around for awhile the woman waiting on me found the headlight still in the box. I told her "No biggie. I'm waiting for a bike rack that I purchased online to arrive." She said that they would call me when it was ready. Got a call from a guy on May 28. He said "Your bike has been here for awhile. It's taking up space. When are you coming to get it?". I told him "I was there 2 days ago & the headlight had not been installed yet. Is the headlight on?". He went to check & (you guessed it!) NO headlight. I installed the new bike rack on Friday June 5 & went to pick up my bike. Arrived at 5:50. Website says they are open til 6. Door was locked but could see at least 4 employees inside. Knocked on door. Ignored. Knocked some more. Guy with a beard opened the door. "We close at 5". "Thought you were open til 6 ". "We've been closing at 5 during the pandemic. We've been very busy. We've been working since 9 this morning. If we keep letting customers in we may not get out of here til 7. Don't want to loose our mind." "My bike has been here a long time. It's hard for me to get here before 5 & I can't come tomorrow (Saturday). Are y'all open on Sunday?" "No". "Really? You're not going to let me get it now? It'll only take a minute." Stares at me blankly. "You are not customer friendly at all." I'm a nurse. Can't believe this guy is complaining that he has been working since 9AM (less than 9 hours!). Poor cupcake! So fragile! His sanity may crumble under such high pressure. As bearded guy was speaking I was thinking "Dude, you are clueless. I only had 3 hours sleep last night because I was called into work for an emergency procedure. I just want to take advantage of the rare weekend in which I am not on-call by taking a long bike ride. I'll be looking for another bike shop.

I came here to get a new set of grips on my handle bars, but it turned into much more than that. The employee assisting me recommended some grips,so I bought them and started installing them in the store. Once they were on, I couldn't reach the brakes, so I reconfigured my handlebar set up to move the the brakes closer to the grips. During this process everyone was super nice to me. They let me borrow tools and checked in on my progress. I left feeling satisfied, but after a couple days of riding I realized that my new configuration just wasn't working out because I had put the brakes between the gear shifter and the grips, making it difficult to shift gears. I came back in to replace the grips with something shorter, and put everything back on my handlebars the way it was before. I managed to get that done, but while I was finishing up I realized my back brakes were rubbing. Up to this point I had tried very hard to do everything myself without bugging the staff too much, but I decided I needed help. They brought over one of the mechanics, who was quite rude to me. I told him the brakes were rubbing, and went over all the work I had done. He told me my brake line and housing needed to be replaced, and they'd have to take a look at the pads. He could not give me a time or price estimate for the work. I sought a second opinion at NOBS, and after looking it over for less than a minute, the mechanic told me that I didn't need a new brake line or housing, but I did need new pads. He said the reason my brakes were rubbing was that my rim was slightly bent out of shape. TLDR; The staff is very nice and helpful, but the mechanic I spoke to could not give me a time or price estimate, and he misdiagnosed my issue. Also, he was pretty rude about it.

They have a good, fairly high-end selection of bikes & bike parts, but all the repair people were pretty rude and dismissive to me. I have an older carbon steel mountain bike. It uses a seat post that's an unusual size (no one makes bikes with this seatpost size anymore), and the seat had been stolen several years back and replaced by my sister with a post that was too small. I went in to ask for the specific size I needed (which I was 100% sure about) and they didn't carry it-- that's whatever. What was irritating was that a few men spent several minutes trying different sizes and insisting I did not need the size I asked for, despite the fact that none of the posts they tried fit my bike. I left the shop with them still insisting that it was one of the sizes they tried (that didn't fit). It was very clear that they thought I had no idea what I was talking about, and they took it rather personally when none of the seat posts they tried fit my bike. The cashier was very nice and as helpful as he possibly could be, but the repair guys? Yeesh.

  • Tedd Walley

The repairs there are first rate and those guys are always pleasant. The trade off is: The manager (owner?) is rude and insufferable. Focuses more on lecturing you about the details of an industry you couldn't possibly know about (unless you worked in a bicycle shop). Have not only had him talk down me and my wife on separate occasions but have been witness to him berate customers while I was there buying products for our bikes. Enough is enough. Whereas I'm sure our business won't be missed because people prefer convenience to service, when it happens to you you'll know what I'm talking about. Then I won't sound like a customer "who's always wrong" or a customer who expects a store to "cave to my whim just because you complain about it." All the gripe that goes on about support local business from big companies moving in? This manager's approach is the side they don't tell you about. He's a $%@#ing bully.

I went to Bayou Bikes to look at Speciaized Bikes. I was recommended there by a friend at University of New Orleans. I was pleasantly surprised at the customer service that I received. The salesperson at the shop was very friendly. He helped educate me in the options of bikes in relation to my use and needs. After explaining to me all the differences that were applicable to my situation he suggested I go out and test drive some of the bikes in order to determine the correct model and size that I needed. The bike trail next to the shop was wonderful. I was able to go out and test several of the bikes to get familiar with their differences. I would recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a bike from beginner to advanced these guys have what you need and will help you figure out he right bike for you. No pressure to buy just to get the sale. Customer for life. Thank you for your help.

  • Janice S. Glenn

I bought a bike here some years ago as I really liked the bike and wanted one. They were very nice until it came time to pay: the owner jacked up the price (clearly marked on this bike and the other identical one) by $60.00. He thought it was funny, and offered to "split the difference" with me. I was so angry, but really wanted the bike and agreed. The split was $40.00 to me, $20.00 to him. I was a fool and bought it, but was so angry at him and at myself for doing this that I have never even been able to bring myself to ride the bike. Now the tires are flat, of course, and I have broken my leg since then and am less mobile. This man is a thief and a crook and I would NOT recommend anyone to frequent this place.

  • Michael Bouvier

I went to get my bike tire inner tube changed and spoke to an employee named Aaron. He said I had two options. I can wait 7 to 10 days because they are so backed up with work or I can do it myself and just pay for the inner tube. I've never done that before and love learning new things so I was all for it. He patiently taught and guided me on how to do it. (Technically he did most of the work but I did what I could.) He even let me borrow tools that were needed. It only took about 10 to 15 min. and my tire was fixed even though he was still helping other customers during the process. Bayou bicycles will get all of my bike business from now on and I will highly recommend them to people.

  • Gino Onorato

I would look elsewhere in the city or online if you plan on buying a bicycle. I bought a bike from here a year ago and it's already broken. I wanted to take it to them to repair (should be a simple fix, just a stuck flywheel) and they said they can't do it until August. You are better off buying online where you can get a deal because you won't get any special treatment buying from them. Such a shame, I really try to support local/small businesses but it's deals like this where I end up just looking for the best deal / lowest price. I hope other people have had better experience but I'll be looking elsewhere to bring my bike to get repaired.

  • Robert Gray

Had a flat was right by here never been so i stopped in. Friendly and good repair prices but i had my tire fixed rode home and the next day was flat upon further inspection they forgot to replace my value nut no problem went back they fixed it said there was a small leak i dont know how it was brand new got it home rode it that night and the next morning was flat again this time they inflated the tire so much it split at the seems. Wouldnt waste my time with this place they dont know what they are doing and shame on me for trusting a professional at a bike shop. If you dont know how to work on bicycles dont work at a bike shop.

  • Jim Lee

This review is long overdue. We have been using Bayou for their service and fittings for a few years now. The team is awesome. The mechanics are top notch and will only recommend what is needed. They are super busy, so plan a month ahead if your getting the Full Monty. Which I'll be doing before my A race this year! If you are looking for a bike, they also can help. They know their stuff! I was looking at a gravel bike (# of bikes needed = n+1) and had a great chat while waiting for my TT bike to get fixed. Now I just need to find somewhere to put another bike...

  • Tommy Runnels

One bike shop in the French Quarter was unable to get my flat tire off the rim. At their suggestion I took it to Bayou Bikes and they had no problem getting the tire off the rim and repairing the flat tire while I waited. Josh even took the time to explain the “how to” process to me. Everyone in the shop was friendly and helpful. The cost of repair was more than reasonable. If you need bike repair this is your go to shop...and thank you Josh for your repair expertise so that I can ride the Tammany Trace tomorrow before heading home!

  • Margaux Benton

The best bicycle purchase experience for an amateur rider like myself. Jesse helped me pick the right bicycle for me, demonstrated how to put it on the bike rack, attaching the bike rack to my car, and explained in detail how to drive with it attached and generally great attitude from the employees. They called Massey's down the street to see if they had an attachment part for my bike, they held it for me, and i came back to Bayou to have it put on for me. It was nice to see 2 businesses work together, so I could take home a bike!

  • J. bell

Came in and no one spoke to me despite there being no other customers. When I started to touch things finally I was followed closely and asked what I wanted in a very rude tone. The salesperson was so rude and when I tried out a bike seat comfort level I was screamed at for doing so but given no other option to test the product. Just stared at until I left. Also the bikes I asked about I was told were in the back but out of my price range- fun fact: I never gave them a price range. Terrible experience ruined my day.

  • Brandon Curwick

A lot of shops around town get reputations for being nose-up know it alls when it comes to bikes. I found my experience here was the opposite. They not only repaired my flat tire on but they replaced my tire valves for free. They also resolved my pedal issue I was having, recommended a great product that I now love, and special ordered grips that I wanted. This place rules and don’t be shy if all you see is specialized when you walk in the door, they’ll work on any bike you bring in!

  • Chelsea O'Lansen

I came here with my bike to try to get a rack that would work with my frame and existing hardware and was met with basically a shrug when I asked for assistance. I would have spent money here, but instead walked out. Younger guy with beard was helpful but was on his way out the door. Go to Gherkins in the Bywater, especially if you’re a woman or non-binary, as this is not the first shop in town I’ve been met with dismissal at.

  • Ben Richardson

Took over a week for a tune up, fine I'll go back I said. Charged more than the bike was worth for new tires. Fine, I'll go back, its by my house. Went back in again, I was told to go wait back there, technician walked right past me to the guy with a new bike that was obviously bought there and they told me to take a seat and wait. I walked out and nobody said sorry or tried to stop me. Wont be back unless I have to.

  • Shane Tucker

We rented a couple of bikes for Voodoo Fest from Bayou Bicycles. As luck would have it, someone in our crew lost the key to the bike lock while we were in the festival (first night). Made some calls to the shop and they were nice and super helpful. They even sent a guy over to the festival on a bike to try several spare keys. There was no extra charge for his time. I will rent bikes here every time I'm in town!

  • Joan Lane

Rented cruiser bikes for 4 days while we were in NOLA. Staff was awesome about getting it set up and the return was simple. Bikes were in excellent condition, with puncture resistant tires (a good thing for NOLA), baskets and a horn. The only thing missing were some lighting options for night time safety. We ended up bring a few flashing wraps from home, so that helped and we use cell lights in basket.

  • John Kelly

I have been to this shop for two years and they do great work BUT beware. The last week I was dropped off my bike and was gien a receipt that suggested that my total cost would be $17.00. Then several days later, i receive a call that more work needed to be done. Total cost: $150.00. Granted, I did ask for a new bike seat (maybe $30.00) but that was almost a ten times larger bill than expected.

  • Rozane Keppner

I had a great experience with purchasing my latest bike here at Bayou Bicycles. Eliza was my salesperson and was so very patient with me. She explained all the features and options available for the particular Specialized bike I was considering. There was never any pressure to purchase- everyone there was friendly and helpful. After my third visit here, I left with the best bike for my needs.

  • Ace Ray

Came in to have a bike put together ... Called 3 times before to make sure it could be done in a timely manner... Was not told any of the times I called that there is a month waiting list ... The staff here we're not helpful at all and downright short to the point of almost being rude ... There are 20 bike shops in New Orleans I recommend any one else for any reason other than this place

  • John Pugh

Had a great experience this week at Bayou bicycles. I went in with a bike I saw online that they could potentially order for me and while they could, one of the owners put me in a bike from their inventory which was very similar…Not only did I save money, but the bike is fantastic. They added some accessories and it was a great experience. They really know what they’re doing.

  • Eric McCrystal

What a great experience! From Josh, to Matt, to Robert, everyone was great. We rode the Natchez Trace from Nashville and ended in New Orleans where we dropped our bikes off to have them boxed and shipped home. Everything went extremely smoothly. Bikes got dropped and boxed and shipped and received quickly and without any issues. Thanks Guys! We'll be back one of these days :)

  • Ray Burns

Went in there to ask for some work done. I totally understand the shops busy and can’t do it immediately The Guy in the back basically told me I’m an idiot and I should know how to do it because I’m touring on a bike. 2 stars for the customer service up front, kid was super cool!!! Bike travelers #biketour #bikepacking #southerntier #sourhertierroute find somewhere else.

  • Paul Barnard

I stop by every now and then to pick up odd parts or to have them do a repair I can't do myself. Each time they greet me enthusiastically and work me right in. I have known Robert, the guy who does fitting, for many years. He has a passion for his job that is a sight to behold. He stays up on the latest technology and techniques and is a master at his craft.

  • Wilson Basse

Very kind staff. They were very helpful and understanding with the problem I was having with my bike. When I came in it felt like all hands on deck to help me out. I would absolutely recommend this bike shop for repairs. I did not go in to buy a bike or any bike accessories but they all seemed very knowledgeable of their products. Will return in the future.

  • Ted Gould III (Ted Talks Bass)

I knew the moment I walked in that this was going to be the place where I spent my money. Older guy with glasses, Robert was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He spent a lot of time helping a guy out who’s last bike purchase may have been made by his mother when he was 12. Came out with a bike that I’m really happy to have invested in.

  • Shaun Mc

Great store, great service! Friendly, well stocked and helpful. Compliments where compliments are due. Given the appalling attitude and service I'd received at another New Orleans bike shop and my subsequent decision to leave feedback on here, it would be unfair not to leave good feedback where warranted. A great store. Keep it up folks

  • michael fulton

I just want to give a shout out to Bayou Bicycles! These guys are awesome! They show never waning respect and compassion to their customers.. Aaron in particular.. On several occasions he has been so helpful to me.. He is so genuinely kind and instructive on bike mechanics. The best bike shop in New Orleans hands down!

  • Michael C

I've bought two bikes from this shop in the past 4-5 years, and also helped a friend who bought his bike there, and have had a positive experience each time. I love how the Lafitte Greenway paved bike trail runs right behind the shop, as it provides a much more thorough way to try out a bike than simply riding it around a parking lot.

  • Sarah Newton

Outstanding bicycle shop, with great customer service! Jesse helped me choose a bike that was a great fit for my needs, even helped me with deciding between which accessories I needed. Would 100% recommend Bayou Bicycles to anyone in the market for a new bike or in need of bike repairs, or assistance. Thanks for a great experience!

  • Paige Reilly

My favorite neighborhood bike shop. Always patient and helpful, and as an EXTRA bonus, there is almost NO detectable mysogonistic attitude. They fully believe me when I say I know what I'm doing, and if I dont, they dont make me feel like an idiot about it! As a lady cyclist coming from Chicago most recently, I am pleased.

  • K C

Best bike shop in the South. These guys know how to treat customers. They've got a great selection to choose from with different price ranges for each type of bike. Whether it's a beach cruiser or the latest carbon fiber wonderbike you won't be disappointed with the selection. Their service department is top notch.

  • daniel murphy

A good neighborhood shop- the staff is pretty knowledgeable and can help out with most questions. I've had one bad experience where they marked a price tag much lower than they charged me, and they're kinda aloof if you bring in an older, beat up bike, but most of my visits have been great.

  • Phil Widener

Just left Bayou Bicycles. Ryan was very helpful and friendly. Took my wife's bike right away. The repair was quick, and price very reasonable. We live on the westbank, but will have all our service done at Bayou Bicycles. Thank you for your outstanding service! Phil Widener

  • Anandi Premlall

Staff was helpful after I started looking around the shop. I received a lot of information and prices of bicycles, which happens to start at only $600. Bikes are really nice, but definitely not in my price range, especially with the rampant bike theft in this city.

  • Christian Hansen

By far the best bike shop in New Orleans. Had an issue with my bike and Aaron was able to fix it no problem. They have a great selection of bikes for everyones price range highly recommended. When you go buy a bike definitely go here first. Talk to Aaron

  • sheri b

Fan-friggin-tastic! So I went in there looking for an odd sized bike tire. Not only did they have it, but they replaced it for a reasonable cost so fast that I hardly had time to look around the rest of their cool little shop. Thanks y'all!

  • D Stubbs

All I wanted to do was buy a wheel, instead of the sales rep selling me a wheel I was told to wait for the busy repair tech to finish a job so they could talk to me about it. Meanwhile the sales reps went back to chatting with each other.

  • Lee Henderson

Best bike shop in town! Great maintenance team that is super helpful with suggestions/recommendations, quality work and phenomenal turnaround time. Nice selection of bikes and gear as well. Can't say enough good things about these guys!!

  • Catalin Fifea

Poor materials, I paid almost 200$ to repair my bike and the tire did not last more than a week. Their cheap materials it's bought from China for couple of bucks. Very poor quality:((do not repair the bike there,! YOU LOSE THE MONEY

  • Simon Haugland

Very happy with my experience here. The staff seem to be more than willing to answer any question you pose to them, and they know their products. The selection is quite large as well, and the location is great. Highly recommended!

  • Taylor Reinhard

Great local shop! Knowledgeable and super helpful people. If they don't know the answer to something, they will research it or call connections to find the answer. I trust them with everything from my cruiser to my race bikes.

  • Charles Chesnutt

I bought a bike online. It was a waste of time and money. Bayou Bicycles actually listened to what I wanted and how I ride. They put me on a perfect bike. The one size fits all online sellers can't do that. Highly recommend.

  • Rochelle LeBlanc

I wish I had found Bayou Bicycles earlier. They are the most kind, considerate, knowledgeable and proactive in their approach to caring for my beloved bikes. Thank you Matt and Will for everything. I will be back! Best, R

  • Suzanne Schwing

The customer service goes above and beyond. Charlie and his technicians care that your bike is safe, and riding to your satisfaction. Very efficient in servicing your needs to get you riding again as soon as possible.

  • Gaia Alba

The shop is pretty furnished but those guys are sales men. They are nice and kind, very good service, but i needed solutions and they just shake their head like nothing was possible....i found the solution myself.

  • Sylvia Looney

Loved this shop! 4 stars though for the guys who said if i had a british accent.. they'd move the brake to the right side... but otherwise... i wasn't english enough for a right handed brake.. lol

  • Brittany Hunt

Usually bike repair people make me feel really bad about having a crumby bike and knowing nothing about them, but these guys are extremely nice and customer service focused. Great experience!

  • Scott MacFetters

They are killing it. Excellent service, they seem to care, handling phase 1 post covid incredibly. Seriously though, fast professional service. I'll definitely return here for future service.

  • Sahbin david

Horrible customer service, haven't been in person but I won't go anymore just by the hard time getting someone to answer the phone and after they do they hang up in less than 20 seconds

  • J. Max

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE The service guy was pretty rude. I get that it's busy, but just tell people your system. I'm just going someplace else. It's not worth dealing with a bad attitude.

  • Bridget Stiltner

Fair pricing and prompt repairs. I've never bought a bike here, but have had several repairs done over the years. They have mostly been minor issues that get taken care of on the spot.

  • Susan Reyes

Tom and entire staff are amazing! They go above and beyond to help their customers. Always informative and thorough when helping each customer. Great prices on repairs and products!

  • JS Makkos

The location next to a bike trail allows test rides. The sales person was knowledgeable about fitting a bike to the person. They trikes and accessories you would need.

  • Reinier Lamers

Called to get a cardboard box to package my bike. When I got there they had the box plus a whole bunch of other bike packaging like fork spaces, cable ties etc.
