Went to Bowes on the 18th December 23, myself my partner and 4 other friends took a night off work to enjoy drinks in this well renowned pub. Guinness was top class. We were drinking from 2pm at around 4 to 430pm a new barman, a male in his mid 40s started his shift. He told us on 3 seperate occasions to stop laughing and keep the noise down, after 3rd warning we decided to leave after spending a lot of money and really enjoying ourselves up to that point. This barman ruined our yearly get together. Drink is fabulous. All other bar staff were great and engaging before this. Whoever this fella is ruined our night and it would actively make me not recommend this place, more is the pity. Imagine telling 6 people in their 30s to stop laughing and joking. Awful, he really took away from what was a brilliant night up to that point.

Bowes is the last great Dublin pub. There are 4 rules: 1. Always drink Guinness in Bowes; it is one of the best Guinness pubs in Dublin (and therefore Ireland, and therefore the world); 2. If it's really busy (which it is on most nights), find a place to wait with your Guinness and a seat will usually appear within 10-15 minutes, as the place has quick turnover 3. Be very nice to the bar staff, as they are among the hardest-working in Dublin (they have been known to be kind in return) 4. Don't tell too many foreigners about it; although it's great to see some tourists visiting, if too many of them to then rule 2 will be under threat.

Small Whiskey/pub located within the Templar Bar cobbled streets, but with a huge range of Whiskeys from Ireland and around the world. Doesn't look like much from the outside but a lovely surprise on the inside. Reasonable prices considering it's meant to be expensive in Dublin, but perhaps it depends on what you buy. I didn't try the whiskeys so cannot help with prices. Had a baileys with ice to chill out. I love the moto above the bar. Great staff who know how to pull a good pint of Guinness :)

I love stopping in here for a pint when I'm in Dublin. In my opinion one of, if not, the best pint of Guinness in town! Glassware perfect, pint poured perfect, no bitterness, beautifully creamy and reasonably priced (for Dublin) at €6.60. Huge whiskey collection also, with some extremely rare and interesting bottles and a barman (Luke I think his name was) who really knew his stuff! Great spot and can't wait to be back again.

The type of pub that gives Dublin the reputation it has. Amazing Guinness, incredible whiskey selection, the best and friendliest bar staff (Eli is a superstar), convenient location, friendly and chatty locals all make this place the best pub in Dublin. We tried a few other places including The Gravediggers (overrated cold Guinness and miserable welcome), and this is the best. We came here 4 times in 3 days Thanks for helping to make our stay in Dublin a memorable one. Cheers.

Went for the Guinness on recommendation from 'The Guinness Guru'. Beautiful Dublin pub. Staff were above excellent, really genuine good crack lads. Top class. Guinness was very very good but not as good as it gets (fine margins). Sorry Darragh But don't be put off by my opinion, I'll definitely be going back.

I really like reviewing when place after place deserves 5 stars! This pub has a great atmosphere & one of the most impressive whiskey selections I've seen in a long time. Clearly knowledgeable bar staff & although not a whiskey drinker my son really enjoyed the choice & the selected whisky! The Guinness was an excellent pint enjoyed in a very comfortable pub which is well recommended.

Review updated as it was removed for going against policy. Here we go again... Absolutely disgusting way to treat people. Came in yesterday for a pint. Barman barked at me that kids were not allowed, and walked off. I was on my own . What a silly man. Went to O'Neill's down the road for a lovely pleasant pint. Plenty of nicer pubs around. Always found Bowes to be overrated

Everytime we are in Dublin we at least visit Bowes once! It's such a great place to meet nice people and drink extraordinary good whiskys! Especialy the recommendations of Dean, a barkeeper at Bowes, are fantastic! Unfortunately we don't live in Dublin, so we are not able to visit Bowes as often as we would like ;-P Hoping to come back soon!

  • Tom Szelag

Tremendous whiskey selection! Quite a few Irish whiskies, a few Scotch and Japanese, and a handful of American bourbons. If you're visiting and want to explore some Irish whiskies, I'd absolutely recommend stopping in here. The bar staff are very knowledgeable and give great recommendations. Excellent for a pint of Guinness as well!

Where to start. Easily my favourite pub in Dublin with an atmosphere that is second-to-none. An astounding pint to boot. I visit here every time I'm in Dublin and I always find it hard to leave.

Really nice classic style pub. Just slightly off the main road so it would be easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. It was very busy so it's clearly popular. My friends who were drinking Guinness said it was the best they ever had. Clearly they are doing a good job because 90% of people in there had pints of Guinness.

Brought my Liverpool cousin here for something unique, he likes his Dublin Guinness and this was "perfection". Great bar staff serving "lovely pints" of whatever you're having yourself, the pub was buzzing and great time had by all there..

Been here 3 times now and every time it does not disappoint. Was with a group of lads in temple bar which is not really my scene and walked to Bowes for a couple and had 3 fantastic pints of Guinness. Great atmosphere and you could also hear yourself talk and actually have a conversation. One of my favourite pubs in Dublin

  • Brian Mullen

Only leaving 1 because can’t leave none!!! Walked in 6 lads at 4pm on a Saturday and was told they don’t serve big groups!! 6 lads who are born and breed in Dublin and they wouldent give us a pint!!! disgrace!!! Hit the trinity bar around the corner instead beautiful bar and Guinness is quality

  • Stuart Saint

One of the best pubs in the city. Pint was 5.70 if I recall, you'd be paying much more than that just 2 minutes away in the cattle markets of Temple Bar. Really good staff, nice range of seating areas, it's one of my go-to spots when I'm bringing people to a pub straight off the airport bus.

  • Colm Jones

Came in as a group of 6 people at 5pm for one pint before dinner and we were refused for being a group. We had been advised the bar had good Guinness so wanted to try it. The bar was semi-full and there was plenty of space. The staff were incredibly rude and dismissive. Avoid this dump

  • Richard Morgan

Just love this pub. It's probably my favourite pub in the world and the Guinness is elite level. Good chat with the bar men and the locals are so welcoming.

What a wonderful place, there aren't too many Victorian pubs around anymore and this one is a great example. You will enjoy the atmosphere all the regular beer and certainly the wisdom printed above the bar (see the picture). Also I work close so you might have even meet me.

  • Will Taylor

First ever time in here. Great true Dublin pub not like the tourist traps of temple bar! Having spent the afternoon in the Guinness store house and been told they serve the freshest pint in Dublin ! It might be the freshest but Bowes have the best pint! Well worth a visit.

The bar staff have a deep knowledge of whiskey. You can sense their pride of the delicious nectar that is pot-stilled Irish whiskey. It is frequented by locals, not young women with stuffed Irish dolls strapped to their groins...that's the other side of Fleet Street.

Another historic Dublin pub. It's like stepping back into the past. Always in top 3 for a great pint of Guinness. A must visit if you're in town. Now number 1 for Guinness. Still one of the best pints around. Enjoy

  • Fergus Gallagher

Great spot. Barman very nice to Americans asking for other recommendations. Would tell everyone to walk out of the main stretch of Temple Bar pubs and head here instead. A beautiful pub with a lot of history.

  • Nikesh Mistry

Great pint of Guinness! Friendly bar man - very friendly and easy going to talk too! Nice atmosphere too compared to the usual temple bar vibe. If your looking for a good pint and calm pub this is the place!

  • Garrett Grace

Great location just away from the over busy Temple Bar tourist zone...and possibly the best pint of Guinness in Dublin. Consistently excellent pours, good head and a silky smooth drink. No bitterness at all.
