This is my favourite Coles to visit, I've been shopping here since the day it opened!! Staff are always friendly and respectful. And it's always good to go to a business that doesn't have a huge staff turnover!! Says alot about Management!! He must be a good boss coz some of the staff have been there a very long time!! If I had to say anything negative, it would be that during Covid, I've been disappointed with how slow this Coles was in getting themselves 'Covid Safe'. Whilst other supermarkets moved quickly, getting the 'spit screens', doing regular cleaning of trolleys and baskets, this Coles was the last to do so. And unfortunately, about 3 out of the last 5 visits, I've noticed the baskets have been dirty, suggesting theyre not always getting wiped cleaned before being put back near the entry, ready for use. But I'm still giving them 5 stars because the staff are working so hard during this time and the delay in the screens etc was not their fault! So keep up the good work guys, your a great little store and you guys do the Coles name proud!!

Want to experience what its like to shop in a cramped, unfriendly environment with limited space, maximum stock and hordes of thieves and beggars? Then step right up to the crappiest coles this side of the yarra! A number of very surly staff, only one register ever open at peak times, checkout staff instead 'encouraging' people to use self checkouts (obviously a directive by the agressive store manager). Half the self checkouts are often offline. Prices inconsistent and often wrong at checkout vs what's on shelf. Manager has been seen shouting at employees across products several times, nice employee engagement culture you're building there mate! Only benefit - convenience of often discounted meat before closing time.

Never enough staff on, and have made the entire thing into self checkout lanes. I’m not interested in serving myself especially with the prices you charge now, they’re through the roof and no service! Also the carpark is so difficult to use, minimum $15 spend and the ticket system is hard and doesn’t work half the time. Much easier to continue a hundred meters down the road to Woolworths, they have a free ungated rooftop carpark with no minimum spend and just can’t just come and go as you please and they always have more staff on and lanes open ready to serve you, plus it’s closer to the awesome fruit /veg store next door and the great butcher and fish shop too! One stop shop.

The worst parking experience! The parking entry and exit are very badly designed. You almost have no way back if you regret entering the carpark (only accepts credit card). The metering meant to be free with a purchase, but it does not work and charges you on the exit. The ‘help’ button is unattended, and we had no way other than paying for the carpark on top of the fairly expensive grocery shop. On the Coles shopping experience end, this Coles Local has replaced a number of its paper bags with plastic bags (!!) and they have a lot of packaged (with plastic) fruits … the last thing I was expecting in a Fitzroy Coles Local. I won’t go back!

I only use this store for items I run out of . If you are going in the morning watch sales assistant with Glasses and Burka . Will do anything to avoid work and will have you waiting as long as she possibly can . I went back in today 4/11 same thing , same person (Amina) . I was waiting at front counter . She had no other customers and instead of attending to me she chose to speak to another staff member and even after that , she walks passed me picks up a bunch of newspapers looks at them turns to put them somewhere else and then WHEN SHE'S READY , turns to serve me . 5 minutes I won't get back .

I love this Coles! If I wanted to find a great, big, spacious supermarket? Then I'd go to another Coles! We go there every single day and have never had any bad experiences there! Not with staff, not with the products, nothing! And with these reviews about rude staff etc... well I might be a bit grumpy myself if I worked there! Only thing I'm cross about? They no longer sell our TINY TATERS!!!! And that's a real bummer :( Otherwise- I love it and don't know how we managed without it before they opened up there! So keep up the good work guys+don't worry about the "naysayers"!!!

  • Maddy Williams

One of the worst Coles supermarkets in Melbourne! Not only is it small and lacking in room, also it has a limited range of products and it doesn't carry all stock. Products tend to sell out fast and then stock isn't replaced. The fruit and vegetable section again, is limited. Staff are ok; not overly nice yet not really rude. The only standout is Bec, who I have found on a couple of occasions to be rude and unpleasant (and she needs to wash her hair and brush up on her hygiene). For a better and decent shopping experience, there's an awesome and bigger Coles store on Smith St.

  • John Tims

Love this COLES... Only thing I'm not too happy about is some of the usual staff have gone, and one or two of the new ones aren't as pleasant!! EXCEPT the two guys who crack us up each visit with they're jokes and their happy go lucky nature's!! Sorry boys, next time I visit, I will get your names!! Keep up the good work. Only negative???! Shelves don't get filled fast enough!! All our normal products are usually unavailable at least 3-4 times a week. That's it!!!

  • Sam Keir

In area for function, dying for coffee and nearest coffee at Coles with their do it yourself takeaway coffee, which I haven't seen at any of my local Coles (Hampton, Southland). So got 2 almond lattes as 2 machines one with dairy milk and one plant based, unfortunately no soy. Large lattes $3 each. Wasn't bad. This Coles is quite large and noticed many ranges introduced over the years have really elevated Coles from its daggy, down, down, prices are down image.

  • Steph Dobson

This Coles location continues to disappoint. I shopped here for the past 6 months, but recently switched to the Woolworth's on Smith Street because too many times basic items were consistently out of stock. Last time I shopped there, they were COMPLETELY (not even old produce to pick through) out of broccoli and kale which were two staple ingredients for my week. It's a very small store like a glorified corner shop. Will only return for last minute runs.

  • Winston Appleyard

This supermarket is one if the new breeds of sustainable shopping that coles is experimenting with. Sustainable in being able to buy products that reduce packaging. It's a great start and more needs to be done but this start is a good one. The merchandising layout is impressive where for a price you can buy quality products to cook at home, Meatsmith products is an example. Well worth a look.

  • Yushy Zhou

This is one of the most bougie supermarkets, even for hipster-town Fitzroy. I feel like I'm in a movie set. Compliments to the vast range of produce, especially vegetarian food. However, as much as I love the idea of self-service in the name of saving the planet - the fact that olive oil or laundry liquid is more expensive on refill (self-served) - utterly baffles my simple mind.

  • Pronab Pal

The parking entry / exit is bit awkward ,you need to scan your credit card ,not sure what's the solution when you don't have one. Spending more than $30 supposed to give you a bar code to scan at exit for 90 min free parking ,but I could not find any scanner or it is not functional at exit.usual Coles glamour, but this one possibly not fully in tune for some reason.

  • Eamon Orchard

No matter what Coles does with their stores it's hard to shake the feeling that you're supporting Goliath. One of the most aggressive and ruthless businesses to ever practice in Australia, screwing farmers and suppliers through underhanded tactics. Also providing one of the most sterile shopping experiences with the worst store radio station you've ever heard.

  • Vince O'Reilly

The place is tiny, and It's dirty.. Always! Baskets and produce strewn all over shop. Entrances barricaded off with trolleys. Staff hiding and giggling or just non existant (although the young girl who served me was polite) Trolleys of stock jamming aisles so no one can get down them. And the parking is a joke. Bit of a pigsty, really. Won't be back

  • Sandra Newton

I find Coles Fitzroy a very good and happy place to shop. All the staff are very kind and thoughtful and cannot help you enough. I have been shopping there for 4 years and everyone has been terrific and I will keep shopping there as long as possible, if you live in the area why don't you pay them a visit!(They have great specials too)!!!

  • Jeremy Self

Has most of what you want for a day to day shop, but is missing a lot of speciality items you would get from a bigger Coles. I’ve had no trouble with the fruit and vegetables and the staff are friendly enough. Closing time of 10pm is a bit rich, especially in a busy inner city location. A midnight closing time would improve ratings.

  • Glennie B

This is my goto supermarket when I'm not shopping online. It has most products I need and the fruit and veg. section is extensive with fresh produce. Lots of shopping trolleys and a large carpark. I tend to go early in the week ad I don't like crowds and queues. Prices are reasonable and if you have a flybuys card even better.

  • Luanne Colasanti

My husband and I are here visiting from the US for a couple of weeks. Thanks Coles for all the plant based products that you sell. The store is nicely laid out and super clean too. Great selection of produce Very nice! Also met a super friendly employee...Vicky...was her name I think. Very talkative and helpful

  • Nick Merrylees

It's a very small Coles. I gave it 3 stars in the context that it's a lot smaller than a Coles I'd give 4 stars. It has hot chickens and hot pork roast. (The hot pork roast from any Coles is better than its main competitor as it has crackling.) I didn't notice any category missing in this supermarket

  • Joss Ellis

The isles seem to be constantly blocked by abandoned re-stocking trolleys. All the baskets seem to be piled in the self serve area instead of at the entrance. The relentless march to own brands is strong here. The veg selection is limited and a bit weird. On the plus side, the deli is OK.

  • ELLIE FAKOOR

I'm totally frustrating, it's their third times to over charged me! I know it's just a few dollars, but it's not fair at all, It's about trusting! First time they entered a goods, twice Second & third times there was a half a price items, but they charged me for the whole price

  • Sandra Newton

Coles In Fitzroy is very well mapped out, and I am soooo glad they DON'T move their stock around to different aisles all the time! It is very easy to shop here and the staff are very helpful if you can't find something!! The store is also very clean ( even before the virus ! )

  • Adam Lopes

Standard Coles supermarket, good service and pricing... This particular location has construction works being undertaken, which makes parking difficult if not impossible. Not their fault, but worth considerin that they've done nothing to try and accommodate or compensate.

  • Jodi

What to say about Coles Local Fitzroy? How can I conjure the words to adequately describe heaven itself? From the ready made meals fit to suit the palette of any 9-5er through to a wide range of snacks for the weekend warriors, Coles Local Fitzroy truly has it all.

  • Ii Hajime

Yesterday (26-Apr-2023), around 7pm, 2 guys were skateboarding at Coles indoor parking Level 2, I have requested security person to go and warn them but he rejected to do that. Therefore I called 000 to get police officers. It was very disappointing experience

  • Katrina Fanjul

Best little Coles. Love how there's a place to sit and charge your phone, free wifi, great fresh cheap coffee and excellent baked goods. So glad we have something like this in Fitzroy. I don't want this place to ever change. Staff were very friendly too.

  • Barney Rubble

Quite clearly only catering for Fitzroyalty. Saying hello to security could almost get an Orwellian/Kaffkaesque case made against the traditional creative folk here. Everyone's making a career out of this sort of thing at a watering hole like this...

  • Elvira Ralston-Ellis

The staff are constantly standing in the aisles with giant trollies re-stocking shelves very slowly making it almost impossible to reach the products. Large trollies are often abandoned around the store also causing issues. The produce is not fresh.

  • konatsu

this store is very racist!!! they asked me to empty my pockets when i didnt even purchase anything from the store purely based on my skin. it was clearly racially motivated and the store needs to review who they are hiring to represent their store.

  • Felicity Splatt

Used to be the worst Coles, but is now bougie. Good selection of items that are a good fit for the area. Do miss the deli, but now same / more available (albeit pre-packaged, which I don't love). Overall though a much improved shopping experience.

  • Miguel Gonzalez

Not a full sized Coles but mych better than a Coles Express. Heas to Smith street fot the bigger version. Only decent place to shop for essentials euthun walking distance of home. Always beggars at the bus stop directly in front of entrance.

  • Naganjan Ammati

A great place to shop if you are looking at local and sustainable products. They have refillable option for olive oil, frozen fruits, macrons and for few of the Ecostore products. They have vegan banana bread and those ones are great.

  • Savas Petrakis

Excellent renovation in recent months, to target the demographic as others have mentioned. Great selection of breads and pastries in particular. Some products can run low on stock, but it’s understandable given the size of the store.

  • Helena Mickan

Generally well organized and has almost everything. Usually only self serve cashier available which is annoying if you have a big shop. Managers seem not to be around and staff is not well trained regarding available stock

  • Ioannis Chatziioannou

Lost the plot completely, even before lock down. An outpost derivative of the Parahan market, where only the wealthiest super yuppies could shop. By far the most unrealistically priced of any supermarket in Victoria.

  • Pets Pets

Remember when there was nothing here? I tried to find Dad here because he once told me that the supermarket is the best place for a cheeky perv. But, there's still nothing here..No perving, no lamb chops no Dad.

  • Alex

A very useful place to go in Fitzroy Central, for basically all things grocery, some medicinal. Brand variety not possible in such a small store, but usually has everything a reasonable person would require.

  • Nadia Fedorenko

Fabulous store. Not as big as the larger stores but has some amazing gourmet goodies and half price Laurent bread, rolls and yummy doughnuts eccetera in the evening. Great store one of my favourites.

  • steph wilson

LOVE this Coles. It is very sustainable-wholefoods-fitzroy vibes. Great way of reducing packaging. Refill station for olive oil, shampoo bottles, etc. Great variety at the scoop-and-weigh. Very good.

  • George Torouno

Nice small store offering good variety of items, friendly and helpful staff, parking available from rear for those who want to drive. Located in the heart of Brunswick surrounded by cafe's and bars.

  • Kate Weston

Good supermarket. Definitely a very Fitzroy vibe. Goat's cheese, wide variety of nuts and dried fruits, etc. Fruit & veg are fresh and good quality. Surprisingly large array of ice cream. I dig it.

  • Victor Bajor

I had a lovely experience at the local Coles and the highlight was the fantastic customer service shown by their employees especially the young lady African Basra who was super helpful and kind.

  • green trees maree

Could not be more thankful to Emily who helped me when I accidentally left my groceries at the checkout and went home. Your understanding and help were sublime! Thanks Emily, you’re a dock star!

  • Matthew Gilbert

Excellent selection and range here especially gourmet deli items. Not a large format store but always spotlessly clean and well staffed by happy, helpful employees. No complaints here well done

  • Catherine Moshonas

Standard Coles experience. Building is very old with the original Logo cementing its heritage exterior. Staff can sometimes seem stand off-ish but nothing awful or remarkable about this store.

  • roberto colanzi

It used to me a fully stocked supermarket, but in last 12 months it has been rebranded as an 'express' store, with significantly less everyday items, but lots more high value, niche stock!

  • Karen Smith (Kaz)

Amazing Store! Bring your own container and refill from a huge range of products. Reduce waste, only buy what you need, and protect the environment. Best Coles Supermarket in Melbourne.

  • Austin

Coles local Fitzroy is an awesome place. I have come here a few times on my days off and it’s always exciting to have a chance to go there. It’s like a child going to the candy shop.

  • M C

Nice place to shop, clean layout, bright and fresh. And they even have a donation station which I think it’s a nice gesture to encourage people to give back to the community …

  • Tess Sarteschi

Upmarket Coles i hadn't been to but glad i stopped by. Good discounted bargains & never seen b4 products. Keep it in mind as this & Aldi on same main road - yay …

  • Andrew Hoy

Good, open Coles located in the heart of Fitzroy. Have seen slightly better selections at other Coles, but this definitely gets the job done for anyone living in the area.

  • Xennial travel time

Pretty good, but a bit limited with normal items because of all the hippie vegan and vegetarian stuff in the store. But has some nice premium meat options and fresh bread.

  • Jose Miguel Pereira Gomes

You need to spend 30$ minimum to get free parking. During my last visit 25% of my expenses were for parking. Definitely a no go if you just want to grab something quick.

  • Dorina Bonetti

Does not stock much products for example they have the larger cat breeders recycled paper kitty litter but not the smaller one does not have fertiliser like osmocote

  • B Jack

Nice little inner city coles, the shop front looks lovley . These have home made fresh pasta bar and sauce thats what took me there. Need that in our mildura store.

  • Jack Brown-Kenyon

I bought some bad ham from these folks. Only realised it was expired when I got home, but not before getting ham juice on my fingers. Now I have smelly ham hands.

  • Tara Rogers

All I can say is thank you for the frozen mochi and fresh ravioli I will continue to eat it all the time and I think about it every second of every day THANK YOUU

  • Jojo Phillips

If hipsters had a king, this is where he would shop. The food has so much backstory that I know more about this sausage roll than I do about my own family history

  • Mik Pollard

Very convenient for my needs, has most popular items plus the occasional surprise. Well done on the refurbishment, well equided for the demographic of the area.

  • Jay M

There's a pick and mix dog food station, but I left without 6 basic items I needed. Great if you want to browse niche items, not so great if you need basics.

  • Lizzie Macneill

Very convenient location, excellent scoop and weigh section. Veg could be restocked a bit more often though, at busy times it does run out quite quickly.

  • Lottie Peters

they had a great range of stuff and they had fresh pasta and they also had a freezer full of berries that you could pick yourself which I really liked

  • The Mino W

5.30pm on a wintery night. Apparently no cooked chickens till 6pm. What are you thinking coles? We want to take food home from work. Not have to go

  • Davidson Architecture

Not reliable. Often has poor stock levels, tried to buy wholegrain mustard on 8/11/19 and there was not a single jar left in the store of any brand.

  • kishore k

Coles is always Coles. No doubt about it. You find all groceries you want. Fitzroy one is bit small store but has all required and fresh as always.

  • Tom Ellis

Cool new concept Coles! Fresh made pasta, self serve mochi, fresh OJ, and some amazing packaging free options! Wish we had one of these in the CBD!

  • Meow

Such a well laid out Coles with quite different options. The frozen mochi is great selection of local bakery products. Will be back!! …

  • Charlotte Eamonson

Great selection, more pricey that other local supermarkets but that's to be expected. Choice of macaroons is brilliant & staff are helpful

  • Candy

Staff were great today. Vert understanding, very helpful and very human!! Which is more than can be said for Collingwood Coles supermarket

  • Casey Nole

Small store with quite a limited range. Self-serve checkouts get really cramped during peak hours, more so than others because of the size

  • M B

Fabulous upgrade best supermarket in Melbourne. The biggest range of vegan meat at any store in Melbourne better than cruelty free!

  • Philip J Augustus

Has everything you need but most of all it’s a really nice building, will come again if I’m nearby and need some groceries. Cheers

  • Mel

One of the best Coles around for fresh food- you can buy fresh ravioli by the KG and the spinach and ricotta one is the best!

  • Kymmy Phoenix

Best clearance shelf prices that I've seen in any Coles! Eg: items starting at 10c! Nothing out of Use-By dates either.

  • Osama Elkhair

You should definitely avoid shopping there if you're ethnic, the security guard will keep following you around!

  • Simon T Wolf (Sy)

Great store, Fitzroy Arts& Craft Royalty, still extant, unlike St Kilda. Great range, locals are friendly.

  • John Lawson

Recently revamped to suit the demographic of the area. Lots of prepared and ready to go food. Good range

  • Maria Marinucci

Opens early..food always fresh..good fruit and vegies..friendly staff..only glitch just tad dear

  • Mark Rutherford

The more they tweak this store the more I love it. Thanks for adding the dog treats and Lyres.

  • Britt

Wow, wow, wow!!! Impressed by this beautiful Coles on Johnson Street. It's relatively small,

  • Dan Med

Not as much range as the Collingwood store. But focus much more on providing gourmet options.

  • A Add

Friendly staff, small store, look at the fancy stuff for a laugh - good clearance section

  • Ursula Donoghue

Fabulous Coles local. Has everything you need. Spacious and everything is easy to find.

  • Alana D (awholelattelana)

Not huge selection! Staff weren’t too knowledgeable when asked about certain products

  • Victor Fodor

Small supermarket that has nearly everything that the large supermarkets have.

  • Arcady Turczy

Emily store manager was brilliant, so helpful and friendly. Thank you.

  • Jonathan Mack

Yeah not a fan. Let’s leave it at that. Just a slightly bigger 7/11
