"I’ve tried giving the ‘new’ Coles a go a few times but every time I shop here I get put in a bad mood because it’s so frustrating! I don’t want to open a door to select meat as during these times it is unhygienic having to touch the same fridge handle as everyone else"
"We recently changed over to Coles after shopping at Woolies for years"
"Being within The Clarendon Centre in central South Melbourne, this Coles store is perfectly located for us and we have shopped at here many times and have always had a good shopping experience"
Coles South Melbourne is our go-to shop for grocery for the past 5 years Throughout this period, customer service has significantly worsen. Thing that my family and I took on board and understood, especially throughout Covid and this difficult time. However, I was deeply disgusted when I found this on the shelve, a sealed pack of Jalsberg sliced cheese covered in mold. Not sure which party involved in the Logistics was in fault, but it should not have been put on a shelf. This is just disgusting and dangerous. (And note that I am french, I love some cheese with "controlled" mold not an entire Eco-system growing up on it) I would have gone with my day without writing any complaints until the cashier commented my purchase to the next customer and start laughing: "These heirloom tomatoes are so expensive ! I can't believe people are willing to spend that much money for just "tomatoes"." Excuse my french but: What the Hell?. Are we now gonna be judged (out loud) for what we buy? Just disgusting.

I’ve tried giving the ‘new’ Coles a go a few times but every time I shop here I get put in a bad mood because it’s so frustrating! I don’t want to open a door to select meat as during these times it is unhygienic having to touch the same fridge handle as everyone else. We should be trying to reduce risk it’s not frozen goods. The vegetables are squished in to tiny compartments making selection difficult. The self serve area cashier area is less roomy. Why make something not as good as it was before! AND the peace de resistance was a rude attendant who abruptly told me I was using the wrong basket and then proceeded to repack my groceries into another one, what the!
We recently changed over to Coles after shopping at Woolies for years. In the last 3 weeks shopping here at Coles, we have learnt that any discounted items actually get charged the full price at checkout. If you check your receipt after paying, you have to run around the store taking photos of discounted items, then frantically search for the item from your bags and bags of shopping, give the proof of wrong charge, customer service personnel would then interrogate you and won’t even care to apologise. At this rate, I would rather pay extra and shop at Woolies than ever coming back to less than mediocre service level at Coles.
Being within The Clarendon Centre in central South Melbourne, this Coles store is perfectly located for us and we have shopped at here many times and have always had a good shopping experience. The store is well organized and the shelves and fridges are usually well stocked. We have also always found the staff to be super friendly and helpful. The free 1.5 hours underground car parking on busy Clarendon Street is also a real bonus.
Occasionally shopped here over the years, but I'm not a fan of the new layout. It's really just another way of re-branding basically the same thing with an added focus on ready-to-eat plastic-packaged meals (yep, more single use plastic). I find the layout and navigation to find stock erratic and confusing, the aisles are now narrower and the lighting is dimmer in parts. Others may like it, but it's not for me anymore.
Opens to late, not enough takeaway foods from the bakery, the hot croissants are the only food available for a quick bite, This morning I was so disappointed to find no croissants in the warmer, this is a outter outrage, make more room in the warmer to fill more and don't just do plain ones do some with cheese, AND restock them when there empty, I will calling the team at coles after work today.
This Coles has recently had a complete refurbishment. Great music, bright lighting and lots of interesting specialty items as well as all the usual general items. New, clean and big. Friendly, helpful staff. Plenty of specials across all areas. It was a pleasure shopping here today. Definitely recommended.
All your household needs u can buy here at good prices as compared to other stores. Variety and quality stuff available .. Good deals are also there. Not overly crowded and no long queues at the check out counter. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available at very competitive prices.
"Coles South Melbourne offers a wide range of high-quality products with excellent customer service. The store is well-organized, clean, and has a great variety of fresh produce. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making shopping here a pleasant experience!"
The renovation of the store is an ongoing disaster. The site is probably unsafe and the product placements frequently change - to different locations than the directory. Too hard to shop here when there are excellent alternatives close by.
Bro, this place hit it's glow up. It's fancy as in here, there's fresh pasta bars, a bakery section it's pretty insane. Highly recommend it, their selection of general groceries has increased also.
Paid for my groceries then tried to leave , the new security gates did not open I had to go find a staff member to let me out. Unbelievable 1 billion in profit and now have gates that lock us in ??
The worst Coles Store I've ever been to. Opening Hours 08:00am to 09:00pm Monday to Sunday. One self service register that takes cash and the other 8 or 9 Self service Registers are Card Only.
Spacious space but some items are usually out of stock. Also they have the worst white grapes you can ever taste, they're literally sour. Is there no quality control at all?
Having to wait until the barrier at the self-check out confirms whether I’ve stolen anything after paying was an appalling experience, one that I won’t be repeating.
It's a nice store and recently going through a Coles Local upgrade. My only gripe is the opening hours are 4 hours a day less than the Woolworths in South Melbourne.
Did you know that this store features a 48ft (14m) long cheese case, with more than 130 cheeses. Very unique decorations and friendly staff members.
I feel this Coles is too small. They often ran out items that I wanted to buy. Also, it is closed so early. Woolworths wins in this area
Has been changed into a "Coles local" stripping away the only thing I went there for (roast chicken)
Love the refurbishment and new additions to the store-but the coffee machine is never working!!
Coles Local is one of the best supermarkets in Melbourne, clean and plenty of choice.
Hate that Plaza that Coles banned me for no reason once saying I was stealing things.
Staff need more product knowledge. They know nothing when I asked. So disappointed
It's a supermarket, what more is there to say. No deli unfortunately
Coles coffee Mechine has not been working for like year now ha ha
Best coles ever. Recent renovation has made it yummy!
Helpful staff, clean store, fast checkout
