Last night (7/27) the man at the front desk was very short with us and incredibly rude. Didn’t want to explain anything about pricing but kept saying “tell me NOW how long you want to bowl cuz you can’t change it later!” He sounded so miserable and unstable but we paid and let it go. BUT THEN we go to the bar to grab drinks and BOTH bartenders had bloodshot red eyes and were completely wasted. One of the girls could barely even walk straight. After waiting TEN minutes (I know this because it was my turn to bowl and the screen timed out) I finally asked if maybe the bar was closed?? And one of the girls without even looking at me gives me the one minute finger and proceeds to take pictures of what appeared to be regulars? Regulars at a bowling alley lol… I know. And then poured shots for those people and for herself and her fellow bartender. They were already nearly falling over wasted and ripping MORE shots. They didn’t take my order for another 7 minutes… I’ve never seen the staff be more wasted than any single one of the patrons before. This place SUCKS. There are just way too many bowling alleys in the city to ever waste your time at this dump.
** IF I COULD GIVE A ZERO I WOULD** My family and I arrived at 8:15pm for a 9:00 p.m. reservation. The "manager"/guy behind the counter told us at 8:15 pm to WAIT 45/50 minutes and our lane would be ready. We decided to have a drink at the bar to wait. We then went to the bathroom at 8:50 pm and saw another family at our lane finishing up. We then grabbed our drinks and headed to our lane at 8:55 to bowl at 9:00 pm. Mind you, the WORKER was STILL cleaning our lane 8:55 pm. We bowled 9:00 pm on the dot to 10:11 pm and when we went to pay the "manger" he charged us TWO hours of bowling!!!! We didn't even arrive to the facility till 8:15 pm!!!! The manager didn't even care to listen to us! Still charged us two hours even though our ticket said waiting list at 8:15pm!!! DON"T COME HERE! THEY LEGIT STEAL YOUR MONEY, DON"T LISTEN, AND STILL CHARGE! DISTGUSTING! We are NOT alone, there was ANOTHER family in the parking lot complaining about the same thing!
Poor service. Was told An hour and thirty minute wait. 40 minutes later the same man sad that only 2 of the lanes were for public so it’ll be a while. Luckily it was only 15 more minutes. It took us 15 minutes to wait for shoes because no one was there and when they were they were extremely rude, when returning the shoes the employee was verbally abusive, aggressive with his language and made gestures. I complained to management and was literally waived off and ignored. If I could give a - score I would. I understand being short staffed especially these days and employees under stress, but there still is a way to act in a business and it would be a great one, if you had people remotely competent running it.

The security is a joke! I never write a review but felt compelled to warn people about this joke of an establishment. First, my friend called Diversey Bowl to reserve a lane on a Saturday night. The woman (wish I had her name) said that there will be lanes available starting at 1030. She completely neglected to inform my friend that after 11pm the place goes on lockdown mode and doesn't allow anyone in. So I show up at 11:01 to meet my friends and bowl. Unfortunately, I arrive to double locked doors and a security team that refuses to hear me out to let me join. They completely ignored me while I tried to get their attention. Before I left angrily I saw another person get locked out in his bowling shoes and they ignored him as well! Avoid this place at all costs!! They do not deserve business if this is how they treat their customers.
Horrible. I called at 11 pm for information and the man said all I had to do was come in before midnight. He did not specify on bringing Identification after a certain time. We spent 60 on an Uber just to get there and for them to reject us since we did not have ID. Yet there were young boys in the bowling alley with alcohol on the tables. They are the worst at actually accommodating and understanding. This is terrible for business. And the security guy even asked us how old we were and I’m 22 and he said yeah no… and I had ID. Cousin did not have ID but made sense since young people were there with ALCOHOL ON THE TABLE!! This place is very worn down and will never recommend. They have staff that won’t inform you when I directly called after 11pm…. Very rude people working there.
My group and I come here every once in a while. Exclusively for cosmic bowling at night. Security is strict. It seems pricey but it works well for bigger groups and averages out on par with competing bowling alleys in the Northside area. But bonus points for the music here being a decent selection - almost club vibes - lots of variety and also plenty of dance music. I’ve celebrated many birthdays and fun weekends here…if you’re willing to sign up and wait (seriously) you’ll probably be fine or the staff will inform you elsewise. The food is ok… their systems are pretty seamless so I have had 100% success with what I have ordered. My go to is a beer tube and pizza - can’t go wrong with this classic pairing at a bowling alley that frequently bolsters a packed crowd.
I was here for a group event. When we arrived, the staff weren't even aware that we were on the books. They were understaffed and still cleaning when the doors opened. I ordered a simple dish that should have taken 15 minutes at max. It took over an hour. When I addressed the manager, he told me to basically "take it up with the kitchen. If they don't help me, then come back to him and then he would refund my money." No apology. Nothing offered for the inconvenience. Just take this poor service. I won't be returning. I had high expectations, especially considering this is the "the northside." I was disappointed. Spend your time, money, and family afternoon at "Up Your Alley Bowling." They understand service, customer appreciation, and organization.
My favorite alley in the city. Tommy and the rest of the staff run that place incredibly well. The pro shop has a limited selection if they do not have what you are looking for, they will order it up for you. They aren't trying to close a sale and maximize how much you spend, they just want you to get the right equipment. The rates for bowling are extremely fair. The food is solid, especially for a bowling alley and the drink prices and specials are fantastic. One mistake is that they just renovated the electronic scoring system and it was basically a downgrade, the new ones stink! But I won't deduct a star because I love this place so much.
So I called to make sure on what time they closed. They told me at 1 am and we had to be there before 11. We made it there around 10:45 and as soon as we walk in first thing you can observe is how obnoxiously loud it is booming with music to the point where you can barely hear yourself once you walk in. When we tried to come in the security guard said we had to be here before 8:00 then said 11:00, realized it was before 11 then said we had to be 21. We were all 21 and I just had my one year old daughter with me and because of that we couldn’t come in. Complete waste of gas and time. Just shows how much they didn’t want business
Wow! This place is fun!! What a thrill. They even have TVs projected over the lanes while you bowl- so fun! 30+ lanes; despite being busy, you still have plenty of room to eat, drink, and be merry by your lane. Fun graphics on the score screen. Excellent food too- the pizza was amazing!! Really good soda too. The beer in the bowling ball is really fun too! Will be back. Knocked it one star because EXPENSIVE. Like $20 a person to bowl (for 2 hours) and $4 for shoe rental (like what!?). But, very fun experience in the city!!

The bowling atmosphere and lanes are amazing. However the security staff at the door has an atrocious attitude. They have this “god like” attitude and think they can bully people around. We forgot our phone inside and they wouldn’t let us get it. We bowled at a lane by the door and could see the phone from outside, but they refused to listen to us and just grab it. After 15 minutes of arguing, they finally “found it” and gave us the phone back. The lady security guard gave us terrible attitude and bickered at our group as she followed us out to the parking lot. This is unacceptable and makes us never want to come back.
We come here often , and lately everytime the experience is just getting worse and worse . It's always the same guy working the entire bowling alley (he checks u in charges you gets your shoes if you want food he also takes your order and runs the food to you) can't order food at the food counter it's always closed. It's my son's bday so we decided to give it a try again- Went up there today around 12:30 in the afternoon, online it says they open at 12 but the lights were off and doors were locked. Hours of operation need to be updated if they're not gonna be opening on time and they really need to hire more people .
If I can give this place 0 stars I ABSOLUTELYYYYYY WOULD!!!!!!!! Security was very rude and made multiple racist remakes to me & my friends even made threats. Mind you we are WOMEN !!!!!! I asked for the name of the company they worked for and they refused to give up any information. I asked to speak with a supervisor and they REFUSED!!!!! I called the bowling alley to report what happened & they told me there is no manager at night. I thought this would be a great place to just enjoy with friends but I will NEVER spend my money here ever . & I don’t , won’t & will NEVER recommend anyone else either !
garbage place that will over charge you while already being really expensive. if the lanes weren't decent it would be 1 star - clarification & response to owner- they overcharged by 20 mins as we wanted to get a drink and look in the pro shop. They Said they would " reserve the lane" but they just started charging us by the min. Also why is there a 15 min wait for 2 beers @6pm on a Thursday? The cashier immediately got heated when I questioned the time, probably because they do this all the time. So I paid and won't be returning. Having fun bowling isn't the issue, overcharging and under staffing is.
It's been a minute since I've been here, so it has totally changed since the pandemic. Very nice decor new added features like a extra bar, and food was very good! The ladies at the bar and the server for the food was very nice as well if you are unsure about the pricing depending on the time and the days definitely look at their website or call them so you know because some days cost more than other days past a certain time (weekend too) due to very busy crowds or the bowling leagues. It's definitely a fun place whether you're out with the family or with your friends ❤️
It's your standard large bowling alley. It's cleaner than some, but not particularly nice. All automated scoring, if that's your thing. Decent selection of beer and not too egregiously priced, if that's also your thing. However. We went on a Saturday afternoon and were quoted a 30m wait time for a lane. It ended up being over an hour for the lane. That was a bummer; I know they can't control how long people bowl, but it was unfortunate that they couldn't give us a good estimate (we probably wouldn't have stayed). If you go, get a lane reservation.
I've played the fun timers league here for a few weeks now. And I've had a great time. I've only ever bowled with friends occasionally. Joined this league with some co-workers and it's been great. Friendly bartenders, guy that works the shoe room is cool. Cool scoring systems, food is decent for a bowling alley, fun people. They just did some construction and opened up the bar at the front. It's really nice and compliments the place great. It can get pricey if you drink and bowl a lot quickly. but IMO the fun will outweigh it.
I never leave reviews but I had to this time. My party came here today and the security guards in front was extremely rude to a few guest in my party that arrived at different times. We are POC and I absolutely do not want to pull that card because that’s not how I view the world for the most part, but I couldn’t help but notice how polite they were to the other guest coming in. I hope whatever is in their hearts is figured out and worked through. Scott the other staff member was kind tho so…
I recently visited the diversey bowling alley, and overall, it's a fantastic spot. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the prices are reasonable, making it an excellent choice for a fun outing. However, there were occasional technical issues with the scoring system that interrupted the flow of the game. Despite this, the staff was responsive in addressing the problems. If you're looking for affordable fun, it's a great option, but be prepared for occasional hiccups in the technology.
Best bowling alley in the city! We have been on the Sunday winter league for the last 2 years. We so enjoy coming here. The food is great! The beers are fresh. The lanes are well maintained. The staff is like family! Since the virus they have put forth great effort into reopening. They’ve installed dividers in the lanes and limited the number of people inside at once. Face masks required! Come out and show our local alley some love! You rock Diversey! Glad to have you back.
Absolutely horrible, how can you say that you lock the doors at midnight and close at 1am then when someone shows up at 11:54 they already locked the doors and tell you they are done. That's just laziness and a bad business practice. Last time I was here was 17 years ago. It was bad service then and it's bad service now. I understand it's your business but at least keep your word on what you tell potential patrons. Most likely won't be seeing me around there anytime soon
Great great time!!! Affordable relaxing, safe great food great customer service, lanes work very clean good atmosphere, just a great time, love it

Came in today at 5 pm with my family, we reserved and waited for 2 hours for our turn to bowl only for our number to be skipped because our party was “too big”. and after 6pm the price for bowling goes up. we should have atleast gotten respected the fact that we where there before the prices go up. Or atleast NOT GET SKIPPED our turn. I really have good memories at this place but today I left with a bad experience

I had a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend here without ever having been here before the day of the event, and it went great. They ended up having a summer package deal (that wasn’t listed online or mentioned the couple times I called) that was perfect for us and made having the party here soo much cheaper than it would have been else where. I think everyone had a lot of fun and I was really happy to have picked to have it here.
Not only is great bowling despite the price. It's quality food and bar drinks. Strong $6 drinks. Good wings jumbo wings, flavorful waffle fries, and I would for real for real come back just for the steak tacos. Taco sauce good too! So damn tasty with just some onions. Very friendly staff and bartender. Even front desk guy was understanding and gave me a refund on a missed reservation with no problem. Definitely 10 of out 10!!!!!
If I could give negative start I would! I was literally humiliated by the security at this place last night! They act like I was about to get a gun or something! I had never had a problem before and they insisted saying I have a fake ID. I’m 28 years old and there is no reason to use a fake ID to get in a bowling alley. I mean, Absolutely ridiculous. Living next door to this clowns, I’ll make sure to tell all friends about it.
No AC when we went. And no warnings to let customers know. Staff is unconcerned un-engaged, disinterested and ready to go home. When we asked for a refund (due to heat in the alley) they gave us only a partial one. There was someone behind the bar but told us to go to the next bar farther away. Its just a pointless place to go considering how bad the staff is. Don’t go unless it’s your last resort. You will be disappointed.
Not a place I would go…. I called for a week straight to try and reserve a birthday for my 7 yr old son. I never got a call back. I was told that the manager is very busy with a new system they have in place. I went to the bowling alley to try and reserve it and no one could help me… such a disappointment! I wish I could give zero stars. I scheduled my kids party at Waveland bowling and kids had a blast. Much better place!
Bowling was great but man, Laurie’s Chicken Tenders were fire. 10/10 for the tendies and 8/10 for the sauces. If I go back, I’m for sure doing honey mustard. Mozz sticks and cheese sticks were what you’d expect but the chips and salsa had some surprising heat in there. Must be Laurie’s secret recipe. Overall, def recommend this to a friend.

Probably a solid venue for a middle school birthday party, but pretty horrendous lane conditions if you’re an actual bowler looking to get some games in. Approach area was as sticky as the bathroom floor of a gas station in Louisiana on a hot summer day!! The guy behind the counter was super helpful in allowing us to switch lanes halfway through, but it was just as bad after moving 10 lanes down
If you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into by going around 7:30pm on a weekend night, then good. It’ll be even more of a blast. Good food and drinks. Staff is friendly. Place is tidy and run well. Music is BUMPIN’ Sometimes the lights can make bowling a little bit more difficult, but if you’re going for a 300 at that point… you might be in the wrong place
First time going bowling with the family. It was a nice overall experience. Pretty clean and staff very friendly. Plenty of free onsite parking. And very very good American food and beer, alcohol, etc drinks! The kids especially loved when the lights went off and the disco ones came on. Definitely recommend this place for friends AND family gatherings/events!
Food in the food court is pricey. The staff are excellent as well as the attendant for the bowling shoes. We arrived there on arch 16th a D had a blast! My brother has AUTISIM and enjoyed bowling there as well which was a new experience for him. We would love.to have his birthday party there next year January 13th 2023. He's the best Chicago fan!!!
This place is the place to bowl and have fun in Chicago! The food is fantastic and almost everything on the menu is delicious! Every bartender was attentive and quick, so I could get back to the lanes and bowl a gutter ball lol! Honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough! Shout out to Ashley and Ciara for being awesome and taking care of us!
We love Diversey Rock & Bowl! Plenty of lanes, great music, clean everything, and bumpers for the kids. We were there tonight and saw guys with HUGE tubes of beer that had a tap so everyone could share. The food menu is pretty extensive and they have billiards and TVs everywhere so you can watch sports while you're bowling. Great time!
Good way to spend a rainy Chicago afternoon. We got there around 11:30 ish which was good because by the time we left it looked as though there was quite a wait. They've got a decent bar and food (which I didn't try). Pool tables in the back. The shoes actually looked very new and in great condition - I was very pleasantly surprised.
Scot the Menager was telling us that we have to wait 1 hour for a line and we sign up we had a line right away… After that we wanted to reset our game and he didn’t want to do it, he said that one of our girls throw a ball in the other line what a shame we are paying for it and if we want our game to be reset he needs to do it.
Scott was awesome. He was super nice and very helpful. Such a cool dude. I am coming back here to bowl next time for that dude and his service. And i’m going to bring all my friends too. The security was super cool, had great conversations. The vibes were awesome. Loved Scott and security especially. Would totally recommend :)
Remodeled. Looks really nice inside. I wish it still looked like a crappy bowling alley though. Tuesday afternoon's tremendous deal which I happily participated in last week was $15 for one lane from 12-5. My two pals and I got in 7 games each. Shoes were three bucks a person. Great time, great deal. Good beer specials too.
Paid $3 for shoe rental and 2 games. Such an amazing deal. The feel is super great. They have a great selection of bowling balls. It is fun as well because you get to take a pic that corresponds with your turn, so when it's your turn, your picture comes up. It gets busy quick, so come prepared for crowds and a good time.
Already knew they weren't the greatest security but they lock the doors at 11pm and announced themselves close when everyone knows they're open until 1am. My group reserved the lane and I'm 5 min late. I did enjoy coming here for the longest time, and they know that but no. Forget this place. Lost 7 customers
I love Diversey Bowl! The Sales Man was very informative & helpful when coming in today to get my new UFO Ball drilled . He also made sure that the grip drilled was more beneficial than hurtful to my bowling hand, since I sometimes have pain in my hand. I would definitely recommend this place to friends !!
It’s a good place to spend time with friends. On the other hand, the music and the atmosphere at night is incredible, you feel like you are in a club. The only bad thing is that you have to wait a long time to play

Great bowling atmosphere (for the most part) and pizza is really good. The loss of one star is due to the drastic switch to what felt like a rave At 8 pm. Lights turned down, strobe lights on and music turned up to 11. Made it a little difficult to bowl and converse without having a seizure.
i am not from Chicago but i love bowling so i thought it would be fun to go. my friend and i called around 10 asking if any lanes will be open but didnt specify that after 10 you need to present your ID. we spent over $40 for an uber just to leave after being there for not even a minute.
Well I haven't been bowling in some time. It was expensive since I'm used to cheaper prices when renting lanes. But the alcohol was good and they didn't overcharge. The food was decent. The game froze a few times, that kind of put a damper on our group competing. But enjoyed our stay.
The best bartenders in town. I went to both bars which were run by multiple bartenders. I think their names were ashley, Heidi, and ciara. Didn’t have to wait for anything and after my first round, they knew exactly what I was coming to the bar for! Can’t beat that service.
Loved this place. I do not drink so not sure about how it is and didn't order food so don't know about it's quality (even through the smell was good). We played bowling it was fun. They have good service; provide shoes for the bowling floor. Overall a nice place.
Love this place! It is more casual in the daytime, lots of kids birthday parties and such but turns into cosmic bowling at night. There was a security line to go through, so be prepared to wait to get in. Alleys were slick and there were plenty of bowling balls
Joined the league, and so far, we've had parties in the lanes that we're supposed to be bowling in with open bottles. Getting someone to clean is impossible, and if you do they're not happy. Ball return? Be ready to wait 30 minutes. This is not a bowling alley.
they wanted to close early on a Wednesday night but they still let my family bowl anyway. I know the feeling so I was thankful for that. We ordered drinks and every one of them were skrooong lol. The staff is very friendly. 10/10 highly recommended!
Great place to go bowling and grab a bite. The pizza there is excellent! The bar serves all kinds of drafts and well drinks. Very moderately priced. A nice place to go on a date or with a group of friends. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
I got there a litte after 11 with my friends and they DIDNT let us IN! because they closed early. Very inconvenient and unprofessional. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR HOURS IF YOU WILL BE CLOSING EARLY CONSISTENTLY OR IF YOU GUYS DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SECURITY
It was decent. We had a group of like 12 people walk in on a Friday night & there were plenty of open bowling lanes. We always like the option to use bumpers cause we kinda suck at bowling lol but not sure they even offer them here? It's
A friend asked me what I wanted to do for my 72nd birthday. I said, “Go bowling.” First time since a teenager. Diversey River Bowl was perfect! Quiet on a weekday afternoon, it was ideal for me! Easy parking, clean facilities, digital
Diversey bowl is extremely racist and horrible. Me and my friends were excited for a weekend night bowling but we faced a ton of hate due to the diversity of our group. It’s okay though we still had fun we don’t get defeated by haters
The place has received some major work to improve the restaurant and the facility. The cosmic bowling was fun, and the food was pretty good. It's probably the best bowling alley on the north side, not including some of the tiny ones.
Kinda pricey but fun place to bowl. They have great specials on weekdays. I have my own ball and shoes but they appear to have a good selection if balls, and the shoes my wife rented were new and clean. The Pro Shop guy is friendly.
Good operation going here for a bowling alley. Wait times can get a little long but the bartenders and food make it feel quick. Good quality lanes, oil patterns can vary a lot but nothing too difficult to adjust for
Tons of lanes, open bowling always, great place to get your ball drilled. Good pizza, always a drink/ food special. Lanes are usually a little too greasy, and the hourly rate is a bit high. Great environment though.
Hidden gem! Great spot, they have their own parking lot, way affordable compared to 10 pin or lucky strike, food was good too. Service was nice and management was friendly. Good place to go with kids/family
Nice music wait time wasn't bad. The person who cleans up kept emptying our drinks we paid for unsure why. They did give us replacement drinks. I had an awesome time and the prices are lower than Brunswick.
I had the rudest experience 7/30 11:pm . I drove here from Indiana w my loved ones because their time in Google says it closed @ 1 am and we called because doors were closed & he simply was just like bye
Super upset got there at 11pm after my work shift with 3 other coworkers and they said they were close for the night when it states on website open till 1am and no entry after 11:30pm. What a bummer!!!
I had been looking to purchase a ball for years but never knew how to pick the right one. Justin was awesome at explaining what to look for and helped me pick the perfect one! The lanes are also great.
Great prices, the staff is nice, the pro shop is cool, all the house balls are in good condition. Only issue is the lane floors are sticky, everyone I go with has trouble with the floor.
The lanes here are great and well maintained. The pro shop is top notch, lots of expertise. The animations between throws are annoying, but if you’re a bowler you’ve seen them before.
A Chicago Landmark to anyone that into bowling or hanging out enjoying their music and food. It has been serving the Chicagoland area for decades. It's always a pleasure to return.
This place isn’t run properly. Turned us away at 10:40pm when it says they’re open until 1 am. Whoever was working Secuirty obviously doesn’t want the business to make money.
My favorite bowling alley. Service is top notch, the bathroom doors open automatically, and the pizza is delicious. Highly recommend. They just played fall out bowl. 10000/10
Place is spacious and has a lot of lanes for bowling. They have good deals on certain days. Food and bar is decent. They offer vegan items. Would love to return here again!
Had a great time. Getting in and the setup was easy. The staff was professional. The place isn't brand shiny new, but everything functions like it is supposed to.
The owner is a misogynistic tool and so are the security staff members. To all the ladies working here, you are great and deserve better from your employer.
I've been bowling here for years. I especially appreciate the very low rates on weekday afternoons. It's a great place to go with the entire family.
Large bowling alley with plenty of lanes to play. Nostalgic, old school vibes. Perfect for when you want to bowl in a non-nightclub setting.
I loved this place I kept playing there for 4 hours and time flew very fast and I still don’t want to leave this place. I loved it ❤️.
Bring earplugs bc the music will blow your eardrums. Also you will have to go through security more thorough than an airport.
Frauds, just absolute frauds. Great beer prices, never had a problem with service, but their crane games are complete scams.
Great place for family and friends to bowl. Also, the restaurant inside serves a variety of foods are a great price.
Although the wait time was quite long for the pizza, I liked the view of the place. It’s amazingly nice inside.
The absolute most fun place to go! Cosmic bowling at night with really cheap drinks, what more could you want.
Small family owned - Owner is awesome!! and has super friendly staff. Full bar - Only 21 and over after 9pm.
No parking, and the cost is too high, what I was told was it's $80 for an hour, that's not in my budget?
Great classic bowling ally. They usually see to have lane available for walk ins and prices are reasonable!
Really fun place to go kill time with friends! Staff/bar tenders are super friendly and courteous
Monday night bowling as a date night, more than reasonable pricing, and great munchy selections
Awesome! The free parking idea is just on point! Nice place moderate price.. Bowling was great
Great bowling alley, price seemed a little high but maybe Im old and use to prices long ago.
Heidi is the best bartender ever. She was so nice and made the best drinks I’ve ever had!
Great place to bowl, good food and drink selection. Rates are expensive on the weekends.
Would give 4 stars if there were overhead scoreboard that the entire team could see.
Great time.... bit pricey for a friday evening...especially when lane kept breaking
Our crew ended up swinging by after work, didn’t know Monday nights were a blast!
This was such a nice bowling alley! Scott was so funny and kind 100% recommend!!
Can’t make a reservation same day and then make you wait couple hours outside
Took grandkids it was during the week employees were courteous and helpful.
They went uptown $60 for one hour of bowling. That's a bit much to bowl.
Fun times. Decent food. A good thing to do with kids and family.
