If I could give NO STAR I would. I recently purchased two children’s books totalling just under $100 which were not suitable as the children already had the books. Went to get a refund or credit note, both were refused. I have lived and shopped in Eltham for 47 years but will go elsewhere for books in future. There is NO refund and NO credit, BUT, you don’t know this until you have PAID for it as it is ONLY written on your receipt. I was told they hadn’t got around to placing signs around the shop. Deliberate misleading and extremely poor business practice, they got my money so obviously don’t care. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I went in here twice in a week. She(probably owner) complaint about one of my toddler accidentally put book into mouth last time which is okay. She said the book is ruined (this is not true. book was absolutely okay didn’t see any visible damaged at that time) and had to return to publisher. I asked her to show me the copy of return and I would pay for that book. she yelled us no and very rudely asked us to leave. It was hard to trust what she said after her reaction and It was bad customer service.

What a great bookshop on Main Road, Eltham. It's got a varied and eclectic mix of books on all topics under the sun. This is a bookstore that celebrates books and reading. It's got a nice cool vibe that encourage exploration. Everything about it shows that the people who run it are really into books. I could spend literally hours here. The staff are relaxed and friendly and very helpful. Not every suburb has a nice bookstore. I hope people recognise it for the treasure it is.

Awesome local shop with great service. Messaged via facebook yesterday during lockdown that I needed a recommendation for my miss 9 and master 12 for a book each for book week and lockdown reading. They came back with two suggestions each. The kids looked them up, picked one. I phoned and ordered in the morning and collected in the afternoon when I went out for my grocery shop. Thanks so much for your help!

One of my favourite independent book stores in Melbourne. An important part of the Eltham community. Always happy to provide a recommendation or leave you be to wonder all the great range if titles. Even got a glass of Wine on Christmas Eve when shopping last minute! Please support our independent book stores, they're precious.

There is nothing that can compare with the personal service and passion these wonderful people provide. The good people at Eltham Bookshop are immersed in books and you will find unusual and small publisher items here you can't find anywhere else. And their recommendations are excellent.

Rude staff who kicked my 10 year old out the store because he was "Looking at too many sections and touched books" My son was distraught. The two ladies who watched this happen were pretty shocked by it too. If we cant encourage our kids to read, who will purchase books in the future?

  • T B

Bought a book for a Christmas present and realised the person i bought it for already had it. The shops refused to exchange even though I only purchased two days before. Very disappointing. I won’t be paying twice the price to support local again!

  • David Clarey

A delightful bookshop! Obviously child, family, community and environment friendly! I attended the book launch of "Granbad" there with author Penny Tangey and illustrator Peter Baldwin. Long live the forests and their creatures …

  • Nicole White

Cute local book store, but a shame the service is appalling. Every time we go in with our kids we are made to feel extremely unwelcome. It’s hard to support a local business when they don’t value their local customers. Do better !

One if the best bookshops in the region. Lovingly owned and serviced, a wide range of books and quite a few gifts as well. We can spend hours here as a family. Much to enjoy in the beautiful ambience. Welcoming and friendly.

  • Frith Fairley

A wonderful local bookshop. I could easily (and sometimes do) spend hours browsing the shelves. And if they don't have it, it's very easy to order it in. Always a great, varied range of books and lovely, helpful staff.

  • Luke Harris

One of the best bookstores in Victoria, if not Australia. Extremely well curated stock, helpful staff and one of the mainstays of the local literary and arts scene. Worth travelling some distance to check out.

  • Hugh Spencer

This is a really good bookshop. It has both a really good range from children's to eclectic adult but also very helpful staff. Even provided wine before Xmas!. One of my favourite bookshops in the world.

  • Harmony Knill

I had a specific request for wordless picture books and the man behind the counter went out of his way to search for me. He seemed kind, helpful and passionate about his work. What a lovely place!

Amazing team and a gracious, passionate community. Unfortunately the owners have been known to underpay their staff (among other things), something the committed patrons would be shocked to hear.

Ill never shop here again. You cant force customers into wearing a mask to enter your shop its not the law its freedom of choice. No wonder the store was empty with hardly any customers.

  • Paloma Feeney

lovely local book store. such great service and well priced. staff know a lot about books and are always happy to help you find your next read or order in a book they might not have!

  • Robert Castleden

Great bookshop with a terrific range of titles, including a huge Australian section. Small, helpful staff who helped me find the title I was after from my vague description! …

Horrible business and service. Discriminatory, backward and behind the 8 ball. Was going to purchase a gift here but will never be back to support an ignorant business.

Always good service and friendly staff. I recommend people patronize this book shop. If book prices were abit cheaper it would be even better.
