What a disappointing experience I had at this location. As a long time Gene Juarez client, I’ve been super happy with previous services but hadn’t been in in a while due to serious health issues. I was very excited to schedule a full foil after months of basically living at the hospital and looking and feeling my worst ever. My colorist Dylan, was a little unfriendly and seemed to be in a bad mood. No problem, we all have off days. I realized I was in trouble when she literally left me with my head in the shampoo bowl for more than 5 minutes with freezing cold hair to wait for her assistant to finish the shampoo( huh???) and then never returned after my haircut to check her work. This is a senior colorist. The color she gave me looked terrible and was not a full foil but a partial balayage. Feeling pretty out of it (still in recovery & a little light headed from the appointment) I paid over $500 and left without realizing I completely overpaid and I did not get the service j paid for. It’s now over a week later and even though I’ve called multiple times and emailed photos to prove I did not get the service I paid for, I still don’t have a refund or any resolution to this simple, straightforward issue. Extremely disappointed. *update 03/05…still no response at all from Gene Juarez so I’ve formally submitted a dispute of charges with my credit card company. I’m shocked at the total lack of accountability for essentially stealing money from me with such a gross overcharge and zero response (other than an initial offer to “fix” my hair—no, refund me the difference like a normal business would) FOLLOW UP: Despite the business response I never received any communication from them or resolution and my credit card company just returned the money to me as if a thief had stolen it. Absolutely amazing in the worst way possible. Shame on you, Gene Juarez!
Ohhh well.... my first visit to this place was actually amazing, I met Donny, who was absolutely lovely and made my hair look great! Due to Covid, she only works 1 day a week and it’s almost impossible to get an appointment with her so I had to settle for someone else. BIG MISTAKE! After paying $400 my hair looked bad, my color is not the same, I have split ends and my hair looks frizzy. I reached out to the manager because I felt like I was screwed over and was recommended to perform a more expensive service than I actually needed just because it costs more but doesn’t deliver what I wanted. The manager was actually nice enough to schedule a complimentary redo a few days later, which I was notified a day later that was canceled and I had to reschedule. I called again, rescheduled, showed up, talked to the colorist about what i needed to be fixed and was patiently waiting to start. Only then I was approached by the front desk to explain how sorry they are but they won’t have time to do it today!!!! I mean seriously Why did you feel comfortable to drag me all the way there only to cancel my appointment? Why didn’t they try to cancel someone else instead who had a scheduled service after me??? Because my money was already in your pocket! This is a disgrace! I do have another appointment on Saturday, let’s see how that goes! Disappointment
I take my hair fairly seriously, because it happens to be one of my best features. My hair is very thick and also very straight, so I need bouncy precision cut layering. When I have to go to a new salon, I ask for their most senior stylist and at the U Village Gene Juarez that is Traci. Traci gave me the best haircut I have had in the last 10 years. The first time I saw her for a cut and style, I received compliments on my hair from three different women in three different parts of Seattle after leaving the salon! Unfortunately, I moved away from Seattle and I have been trying to get another designer to replicate Traci’s cut and style for 5 years!! I even gave one stylist two different chances at getting my cut right and they couldn’t do it. I was able to visit Seattle this past week and get back into Traci’s chair and the results speak for themselves; I got my style back and compliments galore! I learned today from another master hair designer (my sister) that a good stylist can give haircuts that last for months, so rather than risk my style with someone else again, I probably just have to fly to Seattle 3-4 times a year to see Traci. If you’re lucky enough to live in or near north Seattle and you are looking for a great hairSTYLE, I would recommend an appointment with Traci to talk about your hair.
Okay, I’ve really really tried. The services are good, but scheduling is a nightmare. I give up. So in my last 3 trips to gene Juarez I’ve had issues. The first time the the schedule never actually scheduled it. When I got to the salon I didn’t have an appointment. They blamed me, but I had the text and they said sorry and gave me a 10 percent discount. The next appointment with them I scheduled my daughter at the same time for a day out. I gave both names but they scheduled just under my name and it confused the salon so they so I checked cancel my daughters app during the holidays and it was impossible to reschedule…. No discount or apology. Then today! My hair stylist cancelled this morning. I had to reschedule, for 4 hours earlier to get a haircut today which messed up my day. During my haircut my brow wax cancelled, so I had to reschedule. They tried to schedule for the same time as my color today, I told them it conflict. They asked if I wanted an 11:00 or 11:30, I told them the 11 AM so I had more time after my appointment. At 11:15 no one had come get me so I checked with the front desk.. they said they scheduled me for 11:50, I didn’t make it back until 11:25 AM. The talent is fine, I just don’t have time for the scheduling nightmare. 3 strikes and your out. I won’t be going back
It is weird to me that this salon is run like a production line. One person washes your hair, one person cuts it, and one person colors it. All of this within a two hour time limit..if the services you'd like don't fit within that time window...oh well. For the price I'm paying for these services I don't want to be rushed along. Also, please don't question me about my services. I have been dying my hair for a very long time, I know what I'm asking for. If I want to dye my hair black, don't tell me that I won't be able to change my hair color later. You don't know me (because it seems no one stays there long enough to request them again) you don't know hair. Also, for a color that supposedly can not be altered, my hair seems to be pretty light brown now. So either you made a choice in color for me or you charged me for a permanent color but used semi permanent. Not a fan, the service does not merit the price.
I’ve been seeing Lance since I was 13, I’m 27 now. He is a blonding genius. My hair always turns out so perfect when he does it. I don’t trust many stylists because blonde hair is really hard to work with. Especially because I have fine hair too. But Lance kills it every time. I let him have full creativity with my hair. Now I would never let anybody do this, but Lance has been doing my hair for over 10 years so I trust him. And every time he does it, it turns out beautiful, I’m always so happy with the outcome. Jessica is a stylist I am new with, but I adore her. She cuts my hair exactly how I want, she listens to what my concerns were which was wanting to keep length but didn’t go scissor happy on me. These two are my dream team. So thankful I found a duo to do my hair that ends up looking amazingggg. Thank you again Lance and Jessica, I freakin love you both
I had scheduled a mani/pedi at Gen Juarez in University Village. I arrived 5 minutes early, checked in with reception and told them that I had a mani/pedi appointment. 20 minutes later (15 minutes past my appointment time), the manicurist met me to escort my to her station. When I mentioned that I was so happy to finally be getting a mani/pedi she informed me that I had only been scheduled for a manicure. Upon checking with her manager, I was told that if I wanted a pedicure I would have to return 4 hours later. To top it all off, my manicure was terrible. Uneven paint job, bubbles in my top coat and uneven shaping. This was my first experience with Gene Juarez and I can assure you that I will never go back for any service. If I could give negative stars I would. Don't waste your money at this garbage salon.
I had my hair colored and cut. I disliked the color right away after my hair was cut and dried and let the hair colorist know. She was with another client and brushed off my concerns, blaming the stylist that cut my hair not curling it. She assured me I’d like it later and waved me away. It was yellow then and became even more brassy later. The grow out is horrendous. This was one of their most expensive colorists. It took me a while to realize how uneven the haircut was because the coloring was so poorly done. When I contacted management to let them know my concerns, they did not return my messages. I’ve done to Gene Juarez and specifically this location for years and this was so disappointing experience. $400 should go farther than stylists that want you to leave ASAP and managers that don’t return calls.
Do not go there if you have curls. 2 nights ago I bought coloring and styling for my daughter and a haircut and styling for me. When I booked our appointments I specifically asked the scheduler if the person for my daughter knew how to do curls and they said yes. While the colorist did a good job on the coloring part, she then proceeded to brush and hair blow dry my daughters hair straight which resulted in a frizzy mess later. I watched her sit there gracefully and not take it on the stylist which was clearly doing the only thing she knew to do, but I squarely put this on the salon and particularly the scheduler who clearly either lied to us or didn’t even understand the request. Gene Juarez is not cheap and I would expect them to know better
Front desk staff were friendly and happy to help me get what I need. I was hoping for some product advice and they found a stylist to help which I really appreciated. I was a bit disappointed, however, that the stylist did not seem to have any knowledge in regards to product formulation. Usually stylists at Gene Juarez are very knowledgeable. This stylist was clearly parroting retail training, tried to upsell me, then gave me reccomendations for products with formulations that could be problematic. It takes me a whole year to go through a bottle of shampoo (That's right, one year. Dime sized amounts folks, that's the secret), so I like to chose carefully. I don't think I'll come back to Gene Juarez. Next year, I'm trying Sephora.
We were stuck in traffic and so I called to let them know. Receptionist told us we had a 15 minute grace period. So as soon as we pulled in to the parking lot, I sent my daughter straight in while I parked and we still had a couple minutes to spare. My daughters stood at the reception desk for several minutes (two people at the desk and no other customers waiting) until someone greeted her and then was informed that it was now “16 minutes” past the appointment time and so they would not honor the appointment. Even though we would have been in the grace period if they had not ignored her when she arrived, the manager would not budge. Maybe a $20 haircut somewhere else is better after all.
On May 6th, 2017 the hair stylist, Traci, was half an hour late for my fiance's haircut, and because she was late she decided to rush her haircut. My fiancee had confirmed multiple times as to the length of hair that was to be cut-1 inch-but the hair stylist took off over 2.5 inches! She even had her stand up during the haircut, so I can't fathom how one inch miraculously doubled in length. Our wedding is in just two months, and there is no possible way to regrow the hair for the haircut she wanted for the wedding thanks to this fiasco! For close to a hundred dollars I expected an adequate Gene Juarez experience, but instead received the equivalent of a substandard Great Clips service.
Service and booking and the front desk is rude and not accommodating after they made a mistake booking my appointment. Calling back to tell them to cancel my appointment they booked wrong was absolutely crazy the did not pick up ond then leaving a call back . Finally got one and asked to speak to the manager, they said he was not available. Then called the corporate office no pick up and no option to leave a message. So the I called back to uvillage got Jennifer, really nice tried to get me an appointment at one of there other Salons. Pretty booked. So in the mean time my friend got me in at her salon. Moving on from Gene Juarez. Oliva and Sabina are awesome. I will miss them.
The staff at Gene Juarez U Village were great! They were able to get me in for a same day appointment to get a haircut. The employee who answered the phone when I called to schedule was kind and professional, she went over the cost for the scheduled service with Kyle which was helpful to know what to expect before tip. Kyle did a great job on my hair and was friendly but not overly talkative like some hairstylists can be (which I appreciated). I’ll definitely be returning next time I need my hair done. The cost for the service was very reasonable for the Seattle area which was appreciated. The staff was friendly and the facility feels comfortable, stylish and professional.
I was at a medical spa on the east side for an IPL treatment and I saw Rose the esthetician who screwed up my brow tint and wax at Gene Juarez 8 Months ago! And she insisted I asked for the Groucho Marx black eyebrows?? I did?! I said oh wow you’re here? She said “I have skin pigmentation issues!” I said how about your own skin care stuff you were trying to sell me you’re not using?!! Lol she didn’t appreciate that! I got the Scam! Rose Esthetician goes to a medical clinic to get IPL procedures snd tries to sell the junk she doesn’t believe in from her company to customers as the real deal!! Unethical! Just sayin’! That was uncouth..
Got an eyebrow waxing at the University Village location, and the aesthetician took so much skin, it's taken more than 4 days to heal. Emailed customer service and was told I should have taken more precautions to protect my skin, and was only offered a refund and some sunscreen. Thanks for not charging me to get injured. I can't believe that after dropping almost $400 there in one day, that's all I'm worth as a client. I will never get waxed at GJ again, and after my customer service experience will never give them another dollar. Sad because it was my favorite place to get a mani/pedi.
Disappointing customer service. I have been going here for over 5 years and the last hair color I received I didn’t like. I tried to live with it for 3 weeks but didn’t like it. The top of my hair is a completely different color then my middle part. The stylist argued with me and made me feel uncomfortable. I called reception and they won’t fix my hair because it is out of the policy to fix a service. Very disappointed with how I was treated on the phone with no empathy after I didn’t like a $200 service. Will be finding a different hair styling company, very disappointed.
Roxanne gave me a Keratin Smoothing Treatment and I've never in my life been happier with my hair. Just moved to Seattle and want to grow it long so I wanted something to tame it a bit and fight humidity to keep me from heat styling tools. This is much better for your hair than Brazilian Blowouts. Roxanne explained the treatment along with a comparison to the Brazilian Blowout and rocked my hair. I highly recommend this fantastic salon and spa along with Roxanne. I usually avoid mirrors and now I don't mind checking my hair once in a while.
Very unprofessional. The Lady That did my hair is named L. She overly processed my hair then when I was given a free "redo" the next lady said that L had damage my hair to the point my hair had been breaking from the roots. I have been calling Gene Juarez for over a month to receive a refund and everything I'm given the same response "a manager will call you back in a few minutes" and they never do. The worst salon to go to, if you're looking to get your hair done correctly, do not go to someone in training or Gene Juarez.
Customer service has gone down completely. I went in for a color service, and left completely disappointed. Spoke with a manager and rebooked to have it corrected to find out on checkout was asked to pay more. I’ve wasted too much time and money to be finally kind of be happy with my hair. I feel I should be refunded due to inconsistency of the whole experience. Do the right thing, and attempt to make your clients happy the first time, and don’t charge them full price when mistakes are happening from your staff.
The first time I went here was to cut and donate my long hair to go to a shorter style. The donation portion was fine, but the haircut wasn't exactly what I was going for, it wasn't as short as I wanted it (after showing multiple pictures). I came back a second time after a few months and showed the lady what I wanted again and this time she cut it so short, and it looks nothing like the photo(s). Staff is friendly and nice, but I wouldn't go here for anything related to cutting my hair again.
I scheduled an appointment online, and quoted $75 dollars for the service in the website. I received my service, and when I went to pay they told me I owed 135 dollars, double the price. I was so confused, the receptionist said it depended on the expertise of the hairstylist. She was nice and all, but it felt very shady that the price was different from what I was told online. I had a very simple haircut, definetely not worth 150- including the tip-. Will not be coming back. Very disappointed
Gene Juarez is always professional and generally good. Got my hair cut here about a week ago, it was as good as it can be at the moment with no hair drying. However, I went this week to get my hair dyed and when explaining that it would take longer than she had allocated, the colorist was extremely rude to me to the extent I just wanted to get out of there. I've rescheduled with the downtown location and I don't think I'll be going back to the U-Village location in the future.
I found Traci at Gene Juarez ten years ago by requesting the most senior stylist even back then and since then three states later living in California where you would think there would be a world of great hair designers, I wait to get my hair cut when I am in Seattle - by Traci. You can spend less for a haircut, but if you want bouncy, precision layers and a real hair design for your face, you cannot do better any place any where than a cut by Traci.
Always my favorite shopping and hair salon. Been seeing my colorist for over 10 years, and going to GJ since they were at the dt Nordstrom store! Now after I get my hair done I can relax, grab good food, lounge in the open courtyard under a shade umbrella. I love this location! There is a parking garage connected to the salon. Even if there are delivery trucks it's still pretty open, lots of spots. Go early to find parking!
Went in with videos and pictures of what I wanted and was told that she’d do “her” version of it. Ended up with a $150 great clips haircut. Uneven blocky layers, dated cutting techniques and low quality control overall. Not to mention my stylist was 25 minutes late because she “got caught up talking in her last appointment”. I can’t recommend Gene Juarez Uvill or the stylist K Logan.
Olivia at Gene Juarez is spectacular. She provides excellent advice and does not try to upsell things I do not need and I sincerely appreciate that. You have a long time very happy customer here and I will continue to use Gene Juarez for all of my hair needs. Kudos to Colin as well for jumping in when I need a bang trim and doing such an awesome job. Thanks guys.
Haircut by Greg was great. He’s professional and fun to chat with during the haircut. He really listened to how I wanted my hair and I was pleased. Hair color done by someone else, who didn’t really check in after, and my hair came out with red in it, which wasn’t what we discussed and was a big bummer (I hate red in my hair.) I never saw her again to discuss.
I scheduled 3 appointments months in advance for 3 people for a wedding. They rescheduled twice and canceled one on the morning of the wedding. One of the stylists was super nice and rushed mine to get the second appointment in so we could all have our hair done on time. But I wouldn't recommend going here if you need your service done on a particular day.
Using the online resource booking an appointment, checking in and paying is really simple and easy. Mary Pluth was the technician who did the waxing that was required. Was transferred from the Northgate salon to part-time at the University salon and the Gene Juarez at Alderwood Mall. She does an excellent job and listens to any requests I might have.
Worst service I’ve ever received from a hair salon. I waited for over 20 mins from my appointment time and then was walked past by the hair stylist and the hair consultation didn’t even last 5 mins. MJ for being a senior stylist you were not helpful and did not even seem to want to help me and overall gave me a very bad impression of gene Juarez.
I had McKell redo my hair today. I’ve never had copper hair before. My hair turns out warm blonde. My hair turned out far from what I wanted. It’s Copper/Orange. It looks cheap and ugly. She was rude and defensive when it came to redoing my hair. I felt very uncomfortable for the hour and a half that I was sitting there I paid around $235
Beautiful facility, a bit steep on the price but worth it. They got my hair to look like a way I never thought was possible. They know what they're doing and seem to continuously keep up on current styles and methods to do hair. Very impressed. Abby did my color and K. Logan did the cut. Thanks guys! …
I have gone to Gene Juarez for nearly 20 years from the Eastside (Redmond) to Northgate then began using University Village for the past 15 years and love using Olivia as my colorist. She is amazing. I have referred family and friends and they love her. Thank you Olivia for taking care ❤️ of us...
If you are going here for color do yourself a favor and see Mac! She has consistently executed my balayages and most recently my partial balayage. I also recently had a huge hair transformation by Collin when we cut my hair from waist length to collar bone length. Highly recommend both.
Lots of stylist available to shampoo, but no one would blow dry my hair . They wanted me to leave with wet hair. I am a black woman and that wasn't going to work for me. It was recommended that I come back the next day for a specific stylist.. So I didn't receive any service.
I normally get my haircut there and they have always been very kind and done a good job. I also got a massage there once because I was sore from hiking and my back was bothering me, and it was relaxing and I felt better afterwards and will definitely go back for both.
I have gone to several different stylists at Gene Juarez and never had a bad experience but after all these years I have finally found the BEST stylist that I will continue to see from now on. Traci at Gene Juarez in University Village is AWESOME! I LOVE my haircut!
Jessica P has guided me through my hair journey off and on for almost a decade now. While I go to specialty salons when I am in NY, Jessica is the only person I trust to touch my hair here in Seattle. Right now it seems very safe and following current guidelines.
Had a full foil done with Cara "Carissa". It had been a long time since I had dyed my hair and I was nervous about the process. Cara put me at ease and was happy to adjust my color after it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Highly recommend Cara!
I had the WORST experience at the location in U Village. I had paid $96.00 for a full set and the polish turned brown, and the nails came off within 3 days like press on nails. They are not a spa I would Ever return to for business.
Such a great experience. Private, relaxing pedicure with CND polish, base coat & top coat. Friendly & professional staff. Lovely haircut & styling by John, who was charming. Christophe now Erik’s here, snd he is phenomenal as well.
I had a snafoo scheding on line. Somehow my hair cut did not get locked in. I called salon in frustration . They were able to get me in that day with Kristina at Uvillage location. She was great. Loved my haircut! I'll go back!
Yesterday I went to get my eyebrows so called tented ...this place is a damn joke my eyebrows still look the same as before I went in there ....my eyebrows don't look Fuller or darker....don't waste your time going there ...
I decided to make an appointment for color and cut at the University Village salon. I am extremely pleased with the services I received. The stylists were pleasant, on time, and talented. I will return in the near future.
Christophe is amazing with haircuts. He’s knowledgeable with hairstyle trends (I got flowy curtain bangs) and very professional. On time and the results came out fantastic. It’s a hefty price but it was worth it!
Ms. Logan is incredible with some scissors! I'm very happy with the new look! Found out I had natural curly hair too, it was my first time to Gene Juarez and because of Ms. Logan I'll be back!!! …
This place has very good hairdressers and is on such a beautiful area/mall open air....they are contemporary and handle you with professional care! I highly recommend and the prices are reasonable....
I have never ever had a worst hair experience in my life. I asked for blonde hair and my hair is literally blue, I’m not kidding. There are so many better places in this area to go. Do not go here.
Leonardo was the stylist I was looking for. In my opinion, he listened and pushed it as far as my hair could go without any damage. Someone who does exactly what I asked for deserves 5 stars.
Nice experience, the team is great, servicial and my artist Jessica is so good in what she does. The check out is easy as well as the booking. They follow pretty well the covid regulations
I use a variety of services and different stylists. Everyone is amazingly professional. I've never had any complaint with my service here. Best go to place for a special occasion styling.
If you need color, Mac is your go to! She took great care of me and gave me a great refresh of my color! So friendly and attentive too. And not to mention her shampoos are to die for!
I always receive an excellent relaxing and high quality mani pedi from London at the U Village spa. The effort spent on cleanliness and hygiene is great. I highly recommend them.
Gene Juarez' quality standards ensure you always get a good cut or color. If you don't, they'll make it right. I love that. And I always get compliments on my hair. Bueno!
Saw Johnny for haircut today all I can say is amazing experience! Friendly, effcient and gave me a great cut that I've gotten multiple compliments on! Thank you Johnny!
Gene Juarez canceled my color appointments twice, without apology or an effort to reschedule within the next few days. Complete disregard for my time and money.
Always go here to have my hair done or fixed from when someone else messes it up. The colorists know what they are doing and always help me get the hair I need!
The schedulers get it wrong every time, even when I double and triple check on dates, times and services. All of them need a major retraining.
The charge was so high for color and highlights and I still didn’t get the results I wanted. Overpriced place with stylists not experienced .
I go to Gene Juarez to get my eyelashes tinted every couple months and they do a stellar job every time. Plus, you can't beat the price.
My hair stylist is Courtney and just let me tell you that she is amazing! I always satisfied with my experience with my hair done!
Worst experience ever! They charged me $90 for a haircut that was an amateur and wouldn't listen I would not recommend this place
Very clean and easy to use app. Been going to the same person for years. Wish they would open up another location downtown.
Salón has switched management. Sadly that has brought about its demise. The services are not as good and not as guaranteed.
Want to be told your opinion doesn't matter? Come here. Want to get rescheduled after arriving 4 times in a row? Come here.
I see Tiffany at U Village for balayage & she's a very talented colorist. And she's a cool person too. Highly recommended.
I’ve had my lashes done by almost every stylist at this studio and they are all fantastic! So worth the price!!!
Plan on being on hold forever when you call. I like my stylist, but the appointment process is ridiculous.
Marie is the best esthetician EVER. Seriously a brow goddess. If you want perfect eyebrows, GO SEE MARIE!
I saw Marie that tamed my bushy brows down to super model splendor. I have to say GJ to still have it!
Only place I go to for my eyebrows. Really friendly employees and comfortable calm environment.
Kristina was fantastic! I feel like she really listened to what I wanted and I love my cut!
My first time to this location. Very happening. Thank you Christophe for my glamorous look!
I got a very nice haircut from Sophia. Love the atmosphere and the caring staff!
great experience with Mariana (nail artist/hair stylist) and Anna (nail artist).
Colin is an excellent stylist and offers amazing customer service.
Courteous staff and I love the two people who take care of my hair

Got my hair colored by Chase F and he did an amazing job!!!!
Prices are a bit high for a men's cut, but service is great.
Great service and atmosphere, already booked again
Got a great haircut today from Mary. Will be back
