Georges has been around for seemingly a very, very long time and I'd never been before up until two weeks ago. Now I've been twice within two weeks and both times were a big hit for me. It's massive inside, yet though there's plenty of space, if you have your heart set on dining here, it might be best to book as they're always busy and it would help avoid disappointment. It's loud, but to the point where you can still hear yourself think and still have a good conversation with people. Service is good. They show you to your table promptly and hand over the extensive menu. There's a lot to choose from, so if you're wanting pasta or fish or a burger, or a late breakfast, you're bound to find something you're in the mood for. The first time, I had the chicken and mushroom pasta, but I switched it to gnocchi. They were accomodating with the switch and it came out perfectly. The gnocchi was so soft and fresh and the sauce so cheesy and comforting. When I went the following week, I got the chicken burger and it was equally delicious. The crumbed chicken was tasty (with a hint of a curry to it) and the bun so good and the chips perfect. Everyone I dined with loved their meals too. Parking may seem tricky because it's in the middle of the Camberwell shopping precinct, but you can either find a space outside (with a ticket) or out the back there's a good parking lot. It's busy there, so there's always someone coming or going. I find the prices on the menu great for what you get and the meals are a good size. The only possible fault I'd have with them is they do have some items around the bar to eat like muffins and other sweets, but the scones are left out in the open and subject to drying out or having a fly on them potentially. This just doesn't look good as you're up there paying for your meal. But otherwise, this is a new favourite of mine and I want to come back for a breakfast one day or a dinner. Even as I write this, I'm salivating at the thought of my burger and can't wait to come back. I highly recommend.
Large place in the old Georges suburban store which may give you an idea of size. We ate in the main ground floor area, understand there is a more formal one upstairs. Excellent service from the right number of staff, attentive from when we walked in right through to paying the bill. I debated 3 or 4 stars for a few reasons. Menu is large though limited smaller choices, at least for lunch. If you want more than a breakfast snack you are quickly in $30+ territory. So overall reasonably expensive given food is totally acceptable without being unusual or especially interesting. Just standard presentation of standard dishes. Decoration is at best minimalist, like the food no dashes of flair. My biggest concern was the noise. There appear to be half a dozen sound absorbing panels along a wall but they are not in the front section and just don't work well enough. The rest of the roof and walls are all hard surfaces at right angles to each other, with no attempt to soften them. It's a really big area and with less than a third of the tables in use the noise was already overwhelming. We struggled to hear each other across the table. There are excellent sound deadening treatments available for walls and ceilings and these are desperately needed. Even some thick curtains on the walls would help to diffuse the sound echoing around the hard surfaces, but getting expert advice would be even better. Then there are options like tablecloths, soft chairs, padding on the front of the bar... I suppose if you are in your teens and looking for a nightcap the noise wouldn't worry you, but I'm not sure that's their target demographic which appeared to be older couples and families (probably varies by time of day). Great service brought it up to four stars but only just, the noise really needs attention and a little more work on the menu and presentation would also help.

My girlfriends and I meet monthly for our get together. We love a nice dinner, a drink and a good talk. Our first time and we thought wow, our food was lovely. Except I didn’t want mash potato with my meal so I asked for avocado. They charged me an extra $5 for the avocado even though I didn’t get the mash. A waitress comes up to my friend and asks her if she could take her plate away even though she had not finished her meal. So we are chatting away and at 8:00 another waitress approaches us and lets us know that the kitchen is closing so if we want to order dessert or coffee to do so. We said yes to the menus. We passed on the dessert and coffee. 8:15 they approach us again and placed the bill at the table. 5 minutes later they ask us to pay and we politely say we are splitting the bill. So she leaves then comes back and asked us that if you want to pay individually you will have to pay at the front. Mind you there were two other tables in the front of the restaurant that were not approached as many times as us and were happily talking and laughing leisurely We felt pushed to leave in such a rude manner that we were disgusted. We walked out and stood on the foot path talking and noticed at 9:20 was the time the last customers left. We were shocked. Definitely need to train their staff to be more respectful and accommodating to their customers. Will not be going back ever to a restaurant that can’t look after their customers with care.

Walking in I didn't think we'd be allowed back out. This place is like walking into an overly spacious insane asylum on bingo night, with no personality and large enclosing walls, and the patients are staff members who look like they're shackled to the floor and need freeing from the owner of this establishment. Upon sitting down already quivering, one glance at the plastic wrapped paper menu (which doesn't hold up to the obviously high-end market this restaurant is trying to provide for) made our spines shiver, $30+ round house kick to the crackers for everything on the menu makes sense when you have 16 staff members on duty hobbling around looking for something to do, with only 5 patrons. We ended up not having the guts to splash out an absurd amount of cash for the average looking food coming from the kitchen and stuck to having an alright coffee, hand constructed between the 12 members of staff hovering around it.
This is the revamped old George’s store that has been around for a number of years . The place is cavernous but well set out . The hard floors bounce the sound and make the atmosphere into a human cacophony . Young floor staff were very well mannered ,presented and did a very good job keeping things moving. Saturday night was full of families and a few Hawthorn footy supporters celebrating one of their few wins. Restaurant has a well priced (cheap)special each night and Saturday was a Parma night . There were at least 7-8 varieties ( I did not count) Italian,American, Aussie, etc etc etc . Our table of 6 had Parmas including veggie Parmas that was passed as being good. All the Parmas were large , thick and cooked well . Wine prices and La carte menu items were borderline expensive. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Would not go here again. The staff had no idea what they were doing. Coffee order was incorrect. After much fluffing around and looks that insinuated that we had given the wrong order. It was sorted after a conversation between at least 4 other staff members. No apology. Gave my order which was written down, then the coffee fiasco happened, so husbands order was not taken. Eventually had to call a waitress over and explain that my husbands order that not taken. Nothing had been done about my order either. Eventually our food arrived. A ham, cheese and tomato on G F toastie. As a vegetarian I had asked for only tomato. So back to the kitchen the toastie went. Eventually out came a cheese and tomato toastie. Really? Was it that hard? This all took over an hour in a cafe that was not busy. We were served by at least 4 different wait staff. Disappointing to say the least.
Service was great from the get go. My Chai latte was nice and starting out with the best calamari I had in forever, fresh and what I found to be a perfect crumb and fry, I'm definitely coming back for more. Its' accompanying sauce bewildered us that it had the table questioning, what is the recipe? Out of the Spaghetti con Gambaretti all'aglio and Tuscan Garlic Prawn Pasta we had, the latter was my winner for sure. First one had good flavour followed by a fair and subtle spiciness but somehow wasn't as wholesome as second. To end the night with the desserts Creme Brulee and Tiramisu. We found ourselves tagging yet another dish to run back for, the Creme Brulee. Tiramisu is my favourite and my usual go to but I have to give it to the chef who made the Creme Brulee, kudos to you.

Huge restaurant with a rather dated type of deco. We ordered the signature lunch special which was fish and chips served with coleslaw and aioli sauce. It came with 2 measly pieces of battered fish that tasted like frozen supermarket fish which was not pleasant to eat. The chips however was crispy and good. So so coleslaw. The creamy sauce pasta with chicken was ok after adding salt, pepper and chilli flakes. The chicken Parma came covered in a delicious mushroom sauce, sadly the chicken was dry making it a struggle to finish. Coffee was ok. With so many choices of cafes/restaurants around, don’t think we’ll be back again.

After a few hours browsing through shops in Camberwell looking for suitable Christmas presents, we ended up at Georges on Burke Road for coffee which was a first time visit for me. It's quite a large place with a dining area at the back near the kitchen and the front area is more like a large cafe for more casual dining and coffee. I had an OJ and a bowl of sweet potato wedges. The OJ was good but the wedges not so good, very much overcooked and not much potato in the wedges themselves. I also thought that the prices are a little on the high side but the staff provides excellent service and is super friendly and helpful.
Wonderful! Dining in George’s is like stepping back in time… In a good way! There are always enough staff to attend to you and the food is absolutely delicious. We have never been disappointed with the offerings each lunch time. Today we enjoyed the gnocchi special… Absolutely first class and delicious. The staff could not be more helpful. Exceptional customer service and respectful fast service is very rare these days, but it is delivered in George’s Camberwell always!

Not the best Italian food you can get in Melbourne. If you going Friday night you can get food from their special menu which is 15$. Still if not that great. Not too bad though. + special menu on Friday night is Avery good option to have the same meal with cheaper price +kids friendly (too friendly for people has no kids though :) +quick service - it is not the best Italian food you can get in Melbourne - Too crowded for a quiet dinner - lake oh healthy option (there is 1 or two but to expensive - I tried their Salmon and it was too small for a plus 30 $ plate, but it was good quality)
Enjoyed the food but was a little sad that they had run out of bread. Service was lovely and the restaurant atmosphere was beautiful. Would definitely go back again.

I had the pleasure of dining at George’s earlier today. I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff members and a welcoming atmosphere. The food was well prepared and quick to arrive with an amazing coffee made by the gentleman behind the bar. The staff, although young, were nothing but attentive and accommodating and made the dining experience extremely pleasant. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a good meal and great service.

Eh.. not what it used to be. The staff are lovely and it wasn’t a long wait for food or drink. However, if you have any dietary requirements don’t bother. Next to nothing available on the menu for GF DF etc. and they don’t take substitutions or variations, pretty behind the times in regards to Melbourne dining. The food I could eat was nice, but again nothing special and small for the price. Was nice to give it a try after so long, but nothing exciting to warrant me going back.
The food was really good. I had the seafood pasta with olive oil. I liked the flavour, the serving size (big enough but not too big that it is rediculous) and it went down feeling healthy and light. I had Creme Brule for dessert and that was magnificent. I'm sure it's the best I have ever had. Our waitress was very kind, helpful and patient with us. I also liked the seating. Spacious and we had half our seats as upholstered and very comfy. Will definitely return.
Over-rated, trash food, very noisy, and overpriced. They added a surcharge despite advertising a set price that didn't mention a surcharge which I proved to the owner, who chose to argue with me and told me not to come back. It was NOT a public holiday, not even a Sunday, so why the surcharge anyway? Terrible customer service. Ruined our date night. I will not go back. Avoid!

Classy restaurant in the heart of Camberwell with friendly staff and good food. Prices are reasonable. Very spacious eating area. Disabled toilet. Kitchen staff refused to chop up food before bringing it to the table which was not an issue today, but it can be. They said they were too busy to chop it up, which doesn't strike me as particularly accommodating considering the circumstances... Lost a star for this. Otherwise, very good.
Large spaced eatery , attentive & enthusiastic service staff. We were a group of 8. Portion sizes average, quality ( on the whole) good, but prices high. All our mains over $30. Drinks expensive. Spag Bol poor, calamari ok, salmon good. We dine out a lot and feel you can get same/ better food at reasonable prices in Glenferie Rd Hawthorn.. a few km away.

Very sterile environment. Didn't like the ambience at all. Food was very average and well overpriced. Seems like pub food charged at resteraunt prices. Can't see myself going back. I know the locals like this place, but I reckon they should get out more. When I get served an ordinary meal and charge exceptional prices, I feel insulted.

A very large eatery with an average vibe. Good and quick service (perhaps cuz we ordered the special not sure). The special menu offers a steak meal for just $25 on Wednesdays inc 200g-300g piece of steak, coleslaw, chips and a sauce of choice! Other days have chicken parma etc. The meal was good but not great. But come on really good value for the price paid I guess. Haven't tried any other item on the menu.
The Roma Tomato Bruschetta looked divine and by all accounts tasted as good as it looked, my southern style chicken parma was good, I liked the pineapple on a Parma. The desserts were all really strong and all enjoyed. All in all a convenient and accessible venue with a great range you will find everyone can be catered for at Georges. Service has its good and bad days but has been very good of late.
Great restaurant. Plenty of delicious options, good vibe, staff are so friendly and helpful and great value! 10/10

Chicken schnitzel burger is delicious, and so is the affogato caramel. This place specialises in gnocchi, so don't listen to any of the bad reviews about non-existent 'pork' and 'duck'. They do not sell these, but they do sell steak. It is so delicious and juicy.

Such great food here! The food is always so hot. However they need to add the New York Cheesecake back it was one of the best I have tasted One suggestion would also be to add pizzas to the menu it would be a great addition! Also they had these small choc chip cookies they would give with coffees they were the best. They need to bring them back! Overall could not recommend highly enough
They have professional and nice manager. Very nice and polite waitresses, fresh products and best quality which I can not go anywhere else! Chief Tony is very nice and welcoming as well. Their best quality and excellent customer service supports them and I don’t need to support them. Highly recommended!!

Terrible service , I went last Saturday and the waitresses looked me with disapproval and elitism . It was in the morning so I don’t know if I have to use a dress code to go there to have a breakfast. I have to use a an elegant dress or something? Actually my look was so casual jeans and a T-shirt. Is an exclusive place or something like that or not for foreign people.
As a few reviews have stated service is a bit hit 'n miss. Which would be tolerable if the food was worth writing home about but thats not the case either. We ordered 2 burgers which I'd deem a touch overpriced given the many decent burger offerings around town. Taste is comparable to Grill'd (which i find quite bland anyway) but at 50% premium. Can't recommend
Expensive and terrible service despite having a huge number of staff and no customers. We were served 3 of our meals and they gave our forth meal to the table next to us. There was no apology and when it finally came they charged us double which we accidently paid. We wont go back.

The food was average, the service was very unprofessional. So many staff but clearly not experienced. Meals got mixed up, empty bottles and glasses not cleared; Plus we were served by so many different staff which did not make it a pleasant experience. We will not return. Next time we go to Italy1 again which has better food and much better service!
We went for a family birthday dinner. Food all tasted good, but ultimately not good value for money. Aperol spritz was almost $24 and not even a full glass when it came out. Affogato was $29 which is ridiculous as this is around the same price as most main meals.

We were regular customers of Georges but find their lack on non-alcoholic beers, wines and bubbly disappointing and really out of touch. I asked if we could bring out own non- alcoholic wine or beer and pay corkage and was told this was not possible! Georges need to get with the times and until then we will take our business elsewhere!
Food is not classy but not bad. Service a bit on the slow side but think that's because they want you to order a second round of drinks.

Ordered take away from George’s today! Although I miss the lovely dining experience in the restaurant with the excellent staff and service, the take away service was excellent! The quality of the food was really good when we picked up! It was hot and just as tasty as dining in! Thanks George’s for making our night special!
This place is so over rated. The food is average, wine so expensive and the ambiance is horrible! The staff were the only nice thing about this place. $100 for two people for lunch… only one glass of wine at $17.00.. I live in Hawthorn and Osteria 20 is soooo much better and cheaper. Don’t waste you time here!!
Had lunch with work colleagues today, smashed avocado had to get a steak knife to cut the toast. Terrible service young staff with no service to customers. Over priced ,sprits drink $22 ,coffee $8 Sorry I will not be going back again. Nice looking restaurant shame about the food and drink
Unfortunately the food is overpriced for the quality/taste, $6.5 for a soft drink in a glass half filled with ice, no flexibility in the menu (couldn’t swap poached eggs for scrambled) and minimal effort to explain dessert options given no menu had been provided (“we have cakes and stuff”).
Good food and service. The presentation of the meals was nice. The venue was full and had lots of banter.

Clean, friendly staff, nice cappuccino. Lacking in the food departament, or perhaps it was just our order (since it was pretty busy). I believe everything I had was pre cooked - frozen chips, popcorn shrimp. It was served in under 10 min & didn't feel freshly cooked either.

After few times of going to the George Restaurant and being happy for the pasta, it seems the chefs are changed as the taste of their pasta is getting poorer. Hopefully next time I would chang my idea and I taste the same and tatsy pasta I used to have.
What a burger and those chips.....soooo delicious, needed a quick bite while working in the area, gr8 service, and very quick turn around from order to receiving the food. I had a coffee while waiting and that was very good also, will be back for sure.
Wonderful staff and great, friendly atmosphere. Good food, fast service. I came here with some members of my family and our little dog and they put out a bowl of water just for her. Lots of choices on the menu for kids. A fantastic family restaurant:-)
