SO DISAPPOINTED !! 1x soup,, 1x lambs fry and bacon,, 1x roast of the day,, sunday lunch $60 you have 1 chance to impress new customers and you totally blew it by serving soup that was tasteless and not even the right color.. potato and leek is white,, not the orange color I was served.. had about 4 mouthful's and was done,, not even extra salt could fix it !! packet mash,, packet gravy,, "tubes" left in the lambs fry,, bacon that wasn't cooked for more than 30 seconds,, roast pork that was more fat than meat,, packet gravy exactly the same as on the lambs fry,, no roast potato only a boiled one,, rock hard pumpkin and carrot so dry it was curling at the edges.. you got it so wrong so won't bother to tell you to do better as we won't be back.. could have overlooked a few things but not all that.. total YUCK !! (following review with pic of roast pork looks way better than what was served today...)

Only one star since the kids meals were presentable. Unfortunately customer's skills were not up to standards. Moreover, I have ordered a dish and they replaced one of the ingredient without consulting me, I had to returned the dish because I have food intolerance to some of the ingredients. Then they replaced it for an overcooked version with another ingredient that I did not asked for it. Staff member did not apologise, neither listened for feedback. We asked for our money back that likely they returned. With this awful experience I will never go back neither recommend this place. They should really trained cooks and staff regarding food safety. I cannot imagine someone ordering a dish that might contain a food allergen and get very sick. I didn't feel that they care that I can get very sick if I eat that extra ingredient. Please check your food if you eat there and do not order the risotto it is not well done and who knows what's in there.

We had a lovely seniors lunch with friends today at the Grand. We all had a parma and salad. Presentation was great: the parma and fries were fresh and yummy, and the salad with red onion and tomatoes was served in a separate bowl on the plate. It was great to have these extras instead of just boring lettuce leaves. The dessert was home made sticky date pudding and carrot cake - both delicious! These were much nicer than some seniors desserts elsewhere. I loved the interesting old photos and beautiful leadlight windows from the original building. The decor suits the gracious old building, and I certainly wouldn't want to see it modernised and lose its charm. The staff are all pleasant and efficient, and the food was served promptly. We had a lovely afternoon there. Chris Hope

It was ok, wouldn't say great, or no wow factor. Sunday lunch around 1230, was fairly packed but we got seated (appreciated). Was fairly close to other diners and I felt there covid density quotas were prob exceeded on the dining floor, but push on. Food: Satay chicken entree- good size, average taste. Chicken schnitzel- again ok, veg a bit dry and no offering of any sauces. Side of mashed potato was good. Special board is up on the south wall, no mention of that to I noticed it after we ordered. 20 min wait time to receive food. Overall, average...good serving size, but food quality a little average, again with no wow factor. After 1pm the line to order was constantly long. If you go there, check the hallway to the back door and toilets for some great historic pics of the area.

I was very happy with the service provided for my large group of people. They were very easy to book with over the phone, and the staff made an effort to bring out all meals around the same time. I highly recommend for anyone visiting Mornington area!

Parking
We parked out the back of the building, not on the street, as there were plenty of options there. The only issue was stairs leading from the rear carpark to the restaurant, for people who didn't want to use stairs. Instead, we got some people to be dropped off at the street/ main door before cars were parked.

A lovely old pub we have been to many, many times during the years since the 60's. Went for lunch today with my Mum, lovely meals and staff were friendly. The only downside trying to get in and out by the heavy front entrance with a wheelchair is a struggle and especially when female staff member ignore or not notice anyone having difficulty opening the doors. I think it time for an automatic door, don't you.

Nice pub grub type food, on a rainy day in a warm space. Male server seemed to have a lot of trouble taking my order, even though he seemed senior/possibly even manager... Pleasant female took over and made it a lot less arduous, so thank you! Halloumi burger was a bit cold but nonetheless tasty. Family enjoyed cheese burger, steak (tender) sandwich, soup of the day, all delicious. Reasonably priced too.

i ordered Satay chicken skewers. the worst Satay ever , yellow, tasteless and flavourless. dry rice that was in clumps, would say not fresh, salad tasted too much of olive oil...Not a good meal and defiantly not worth the money. Partner had chicken schnitzel....again not good. dry and " old". Not a good dining experience....on the whole it was YUK. will be a long time before we go again...

Not what it was before... ordered 2 senior meals... more like children's meals. Sausages were dry and tasteless. No bread at table.. the dessert portions were also not what it used to be. Asked for ice cream with sticky date pudding but it came with squirty cream as well. not even the cream is real now. Service was awful.. no table service at all.. pay before eating... Probably because they know about the complaints.. Would like a reply to this.

Today Wednesday, market day, the dining room was no where near full. I had no idea The Grand is no longer grand. We normally come in with 20+ but today it was 10. Just as well we were fewer in number, as our meals were well over 40 minutes in arriving. The meals, be they seniors or main menu, were extraordinarily ordinary. Small meals, plus the desserts were meagre and disappointing. Coffee was acceptable. It is regrettable to review any of our main hotels this way, as Mornington is a tourist hub.

Dinner with a group last night (22/6). Managed to snag the last of the pork ribs for my wife, $37 or thereabouts. We've come to expect mostly fabulous ribs elsewhere but these were VERY disappointing and way overpriced considering the absolute sparsity of meat, not to mention lack of tenderness which is normally a reasonable expectation. My bangers & mash on the other hand was quite acceptable. My recommendation is definitely give the ribs a wide berth.

The younger girl running the restaurant was very friendly and helpful, food was nice. Note the full menu is not available 2.30 pm until evening. This was not clear in the restaurant or on the menu but luckily management allowed our order to go through the kitchen (since found on Google). Kids menu portions were of a good size and there are plenty of GF options.

A grand old building newly refurbished. Meal was good for a pub. Staff had a problem with not looking at the customer's, seemed too busy to actually get to take an order. Place opens for meals at 6pm. As first ppl in there it was 6.20 before orders taken. By 8pm the place was very busy. Pork schnitzel and chicken schnitzel were both tasty, great chips and the salad was pleasant. Sticky date with cream, seniors size was more than enough to finish a lovely moderate priced meal. Get the service right and this will be a much better experience.

  • Max Han

Quaint and cosy with great service. Been here twice with friends and wanted to come again for a nice meal. Probably caught the kitchen on a messy night as our $52 eye filets were cooked well done despite ordering them rare and medium rare. Staff were so lovely though and replaced the steaks for us. Calamari entree was delish but steaks fell short this time.

After being in the USA for the last 3 years we were so excited to come back to The Grand. We had 6 people at our table and spent good money for average food except for the Southern Fried Chicken. The Southern Fried Chicken was terrible, they ran out of the relish and told us as they were delivering it to our table. Plastic cheese on untoasted Turkish bun with burnt schnitzel and dry coleslaw! Do not recommend. What happened to The Grand?

Useless. They got all our orders wrong, garlic prawns way to small serve. Ordered a seniors meal didn't get the soup cake wasn't what they said. A friend ordered steak, and they gave him a senior meal when he paid for a normal size. Then, when he was half finished, they bought out what he ordered. Seriously, get it right. Your staff must not read the orders properly.

Spoiled our 52nd wedding anniversary. Charged for full mains instead of seniors. Left most. No choice but to buy full desserts which are the same size as seniors. Ours weren’t cooked through, left mine. Didn’t have enough for a celebration drink as a result. Our friends meals came out 30 minutes after ours. Won’t recommend this venue to our senior friends.

We got taken in by the history of the place online. However, when we stepped inside our expectations dropped. The decor is just old and shabby. The menu is nothing inspiring but as travellers we were keen on bangers & mash and chicken schnitty. Couldn’t go wrong with the basics. How wrong we were. Very disappointed. Over priced low quality food and service.

Pub grub, what more can you say. We said no bacon in two of the dishes and we got a fat mound of bacon in both. Food took about 40 minutes to get to us but they were under staffed, I think. The place needs a bit of a Reno, the floor is very uneven. Half the menu wasn't available and we went at like 6pm. Nothing to write home about.

3.6 out of 5. This is an historic old pub in the middle of the Mornington shopping strip. Our expectations were fairly low after seeing the inside of the place which is rather 90s and looking a little shabby. The lunch meal was pretty good though. I had the pork roast which was tasty with nice meat and vegetables. Eating here is a reasonable option.

The food was ok. Everything was overpriced. Non-existent customer service. The place looked dirty. The steak was 1cm thick, beaten to death at $42, never again. Mornington has so many nice restaurants go somewhere else.

Overall experience good, well worth a visit. The food was ok, not amazing but far from ordinary. The service is solid and they try really hard for you to have a good experience. Chef probably lets it down slightly as my food was exceptionally salty and my wife said the same. Other than that though good venue and reasonable food
