I’ve been to Hair Philosophy twice this year; my first time in May for a haircut and again yesterday (on New Year’s Eve, no less) for a wild coloring. Both times were with AJ Chen (who I reached out to after some tea search and reading his reviews). He has been nothing but spectacular since I met him. For my appointment yesterday, I asked for a tri-colored peekaboo, as you can see in the pics and they came out exactly as I hoped for! AJ definitely knows how to take care of his clients! I spontaneously messaged him on IG and gave him my ideas. We set up a consultation on Tuesday, he snipped some of my hair to test the next day, and then blocked off his Friday (again, on NYE) so that he could work with me from 11AM to 7PM. He told me exactly what was going to happen, gave me options and a Plan B, and stayed patient as we waited for my dark, home/box-dyed hair to get blonde enough to color w/o brassy tones or getting too dry, and then styled it, all in time for me to still go out that night. Most stylist will tell me they can’t get my hair that light without overly damaging it or would ask for multiple sessions, by AJ was able to do it and STILL keep my hair healthy! I cannot express how thankful I am for him and how hospitable and skilled AJ is. If you ever needed a stylist you can trust completely, definitely don’t hesitate to hit him up! You won’t regret it! Also shoutout to Ben for being such a considerate and caring assistant! He made sure I was comfortable and made sure I have what I needed. Those massages during the shampooing helped immensely, considering how heavy my thick hair is!

My first time visiting Hair Philosophy the moment I entered the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. I booked a color correction with Gaven after viewing his gallery on Instagram; searching for years for a stylist to achieve the Balayage I dreamed of. The best decision I ever made. Gaven Chen exceeded my explanations! Before any hair process began he made sure to ask questions, any photo references, and most importantly understand the state of my hair. The entire hair process was very detailed oriented. Also, appreciative of Jenny, his assistant, who was kind and gentle with my hair. I am very fortunate to have had such a professional and talented stylist transform my hair. Gaven and Jenny brought my vision to life while I received high-quality service the entire time. My hair felt healthy and voluminous at the end. The Balayage was flawlessly executed, it blends so naturally. Gaven was the first stylist and colorist to achieve the Balayage I always wanted! Very glad to have found a marvelous team at Hair Philosophy.

My life changed when I first got my hair done by Carson 5 years ago. After years of having box-dyed hair with a brassy/red undertone that I could never get rid of, Carson worked his magic and gave me my dream hair. He treats hair like art, and that's exactly what his work is - art! The way he can blend hair to give It a more natural look, especially when It starts to grow out is an 11/10. What has always stood out to me about Carson is the guidance he provides on what I should get done. For example, what color blonde will match my skin tone best (one time I went in set on grey/ash and left with the most stunning sandy blonde) - and I'm so glad he led me in the right direction. I’ve been getting my balayage done with Carson for over 5 years now and refuse to go to anyone else now, he’s the best!! When I first went to him in 2018, he revived my brassy chunky highlights from another salon and my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been since going to him. He always knows exactly what is best your hair, will even give advice on maintenance and care & I only need to go once a year because the blend is always seamless and low maintenance, and still get compliments on it even when it’s grown out for a year. Nick was also amazing in assisting with my hair and wash, it was so relaxing I almost fell asleep - he is also great with good attention to detail and making sure you’re comfortable throughout the process. Hair Philosophy is a great salon, and Carson is the best stylist! I've gone to him for 5+ years at this point and do not trust anyone else with my hair. Every year, I've done balayage with him (from red to brunette to now blonde), and each time he's done an incredible job. He makes the color look so smooth and well blended and takes into account all of your requests / considerations - I started with wanting something more subtle, which he absolutely accomplished, then have over time wanted something that is more obvious but not shocking, and he's made me the perfect shade of blonde! Beyond balayage, he also does incredible haircuts and always leaves me feeling like my hair is 100% healthier and lighter. I visited Hair Philosophy for the first time and was assigned to Gaven Chen. I wanted to do a brownish or darker blonde balayage and he discussed with me the options they’d be able to do given I had previously dyed my hair. He suggested to do a sample to see if I had any streaks of orange to determine how light I can go and explained the whole process, which I really appreciated. The whole process took more than 5 hours and throughout it all everyone was very attentive. I honestly had low expectations given how my previous balayage turned out from a different salon, however Gaven exceeded my expectations! I absolutely LOVED how my hair came out and will definitely be returning from now on! Also, big shoutout to Ben who assisted through the whole process and always asked if I’m doing well and needed anything. He was super kind and attentive!

I LOVE coming here for my hair. I see JoJo for highlights and (fashion) color, and she is so so talented! A lot of what I love about this salon is in the details, from the option of ear covers to prevent staining, to the highly adjustable cape style, and the MOST COMFORTABLE HAIR WASHING STATIONS!! As someone with neck issues I’ve just always accepted that getting my hair washed is agonizing, but the chairs are great and so are the foot rests, and the sink basin has a raised center so that your head is held up rather than dangling in the sink. I leave my appointments clean and ready to go out if I want to, and the salon is so comfortable and relaxing to be in. Long hair coloring days in the salon can be exhausting, but I find my visits here rejuvenating

It was my first time at the salon today and I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The front desk staff is professional and very courteous. I was super nervous to get my haircut because I have had bad experiences of stylists cutting too much hair or not listening to my vision. That being said, I highly recommend requesting Wilson! Wilson listened to what I wanted, let me know what he was doing at every step, and took his time. He managed to keep my length as I requested while bring back volume with the haircut he gave me. My hair looks so much healthier and I love my haircut! Lam Nick washed my hair and was gentle and very careful to not get water on my neck and ears. I will definitely be coming back!

Kazuki did my hair and it look so good! Haven’t got my hair done for a year due to work and family stuff, finally have a day free to have Kazuki to take care of the mess. Wanted something cool tone but not too blonde, something that can fade well over time. We decided to go with a dark ashy/grayish tone and it was prefect! It’s been a month since I got this done and the color didn't fade too much!! We made the right decision! It was also my first at this new location, it was clean and bright!! Big thumb up!!!

Carson is phenomenally skilled at what he does. Excellent color blending skills—so good that people travel from out of town for his services. He’s super personable and is able to make my hair look a million times better every single time. He’s great at coloring and I usually get a cut which he styles after—hair is so much healthier and I love that there isn’t a pretentious vibe like at some salons. My hair can be pretty dry from products and the sun and he’s able to make it look shiny and soft and natural. 10/10.

Hair looks amazing as usual thanks to Carson!! Carson has been the one doing my balayage the past few years now and it looks amazing every time! With the weather getting warmer, we decided on an in between medium brown and light brown balayage. The whole process including a haircut took 5-6hrs and came out exactly what I wanted! My hair does look lighter in studio light vs natural light but is expected to get lighter as time passes by! It’s been about a week now and hair still looks amazing and healthy!

Hair philosophy is a great place to get your hair make over, the environment is neat and the staff is friendly. Jack Leung was my hair stylist who help me with balayage, he is efficient but yet still very precise, and hit on every details of the process. Beautiful & clean salon. I got my haircut with Carson and he is the best. He really listens to what you want and also suggests how to cut based on how you usually style your hair. I'm super picky about my hair, and I drive five hours from upstate NY to see him, and I have to say it's well worth it. The salon itself is spacious and clean, the staff are super friendly, and the assistant was super attentive and sensitive to my needs.

My friend and I came for a head spa and scalp treatment. Absolutely loved it and my whole head felt refreshed and rejuvenated after the treatment. Vanness started off with an examination where I could see my scalp in nearly microscopic detail. He described my scalp type and then proceeded with a heated exfoliation and we ended with a serum applied. Will definitely be back again.

My hair looks amazing!!! Thanks to Kazuki my hair was finally revived from a brassy yellowish tone with at least 5-inches of root, to a completely refreshed balayage that’s more ashy blonde. I have lot of hair and I know it takes ton of time and patience to touch up my root little by little, Kazuki did it perfectly! And finally this location accept credit cards! Wait more easy!

I followed Kazuki to this brand new hair salon! It’s been more than one year since the last time I saw him. My hair was super overdue, was in need of a haircut and a complete full balayage. Kazuki made my hair live again!! It took him around 4 hours, and the result was amazing! This place is clean, modern, staffs were nice and helpful. Prefect hair salon and team!

Carson is a total hair genius! He's been highlighting and cutting my hair for almost five years now and he gets my color exactly how I like it every single time (even though I can be vague in asking for I want, Carson just know!). Second time coming to Wilson who worked my two inches of root growth into a gorgeous blended color for the fall season. Wilson is attentive and checks in during the session and is great at what he does. Front desk was also friendly and offered coffee/tea. It was also convenient that the location accepts card for services, but I would still bring cash for tips.

Have my hair cut and balayage by Kazuki. The result was absolutely stunning!!! My hair is overdue by at least one year and I could wait to get my hair back to blonde again, Kazuki spent time to check my hair and go through some options with me. The whole process took around 4.5 hours and the outcome is prefect!!! Will definitely come back in the future!!

12/23 update: got my hair done by Kazuki before Christmas!!! He took his time to trim off the split end and refresh the balayage, love the result !!!! Kazuki has been doing my hair for years and he never disappoint! I got a complete refresh balayage with ashy brown/blonde, nothing too crazy but the color match my style, I couldn’t be more happier!!!!!

Loved my cut today by Carson at hair philosophy. He took the time to listen to what I was looking to achieve, gave helpful suggestions and explained his process throughout the cut which was made me feel relaxed and at ease!
