I just finished doing my Japanese treatment at yo-c and I give them the highest recommendation. I have previously done the treatment in different salon and Was not satisfied. When I called Yoshi the owner (I may be spelling his name wrong) I had to make a strange request. I cover my hair due to religious reasons and needed to ask if the salon had a private space where I could do the straightening without being mixed with men and women in the main area as I do not show my hair to men. I also needed a female stylist. I had called over 10 salons in NYC asking about this but did not find a space that had both the space and personnel . When I spoke to him Instead of saying just no yoshi tried to come up with solutions for me that would allow me to do it. I have never seen customer service to this level he told me if I can come in on a Friday he may be able to only book me for the 4 hour process that way I’d be the only customer in the salon and that he would leave during that time. Not only is this outstanding customer service it is also cultural acceptance and openness and it really meant a lot to me. While I was there yoko is the one who did my treatment and she was so humble and thorough and really took her time making sure she reached each tiny strand of hair. She actually knows what she’s doing and the importance of each step she told me exactly what step we were on what it’s doing to the hair and how long it would be and she even tested my hair before we began which no one has ever actually done before. At the end She did not push me to purchase any additional products which is also vastly different from other salons. She was so pleasant and sweet and she made the 4 hours a breeze. I give them my full recommendation and will be back!

I visited YO-C for the first time at the end of August to have Japanese thermal straightening applied to my hair. Yukavi was the stylist who took care of me and her knowledge and experience with this process are impressive. She paid close attention to detail. I have had this process completed about six times in my life at other salons, but this was the first time that at YO-C. I realize the breakage I experienced after other salons straightened my hair was due to the stylist using a technique that was too aggressive. At YO-C, they customize the treatment for you. I have frizz as well as waves and curl, so all of that had to be addressed. The processing time was precise and my hair’s response was assessed in several places before they neutralized the treatment. Not only did they take the upmost of care chemically, my haircut had to be adjusted since it had been heavily layered previously to accommodate curls. Now that it was being straightened, Yukavi was able to work with those layers and create a new style that looks great with straight hair. The whole day was such a treat for me. You can trust these wonderful people with your hair!

PLEASE DONT EVER COME HERE! Horrible experience. I went with my husband for a haircut for both of us. His hair was BADLY DONE IN THE BACK, LITERALLY HALF SHAVED LIKE THE HAIRDRESSER HAD NEVER USED A SHAVER BEFORE, we didn't notice until we leave and were already far from the store. Service is horrifying. While I was getting my hair shampooed, the hairdresser put shampoo in my ears and he didn't even notice, I had to take it out by myself while he was drying my hair. He seemed to be in such a big hurry and couldn't get rid of us faster, specially he had someone already waiting for him right inside the shop for him to get off his shift. He dried my hair without much care and gentleness, basically slapping my hair here and there, making it extremely unpleasant. I didn't like the haircut, I showed him a picture but as soon as he did my bangs I knew it wasn't gonna look like the picture. The picture had bangs with sides and he only did the straight bangs, I couldn't say anything earlier bc my eyesight was covered by my hair and he only asked about the length that I wanted.

I will start of by saying I'm a very obsessive person, I spent a year researching japanese hair straightening before making the decision to do it. I spent as much time looking for a stylist who can manage with me type 3c-4a curls. I originally planned to go to someone else but their prices were out of my budget, so I kept my search and found Yoshi. I hesitated to go to him because he doesnt have the most active social media, and honestly I doubted a Japanese man could handle my ethnic hair. Boy was i was, and I'm so glad i was. My fiance told me i was crazy for being so obsessive and just to go to him since his price was good and he was able to take me on so short notice. I wanted my hair done for my birthday which was in 2 days. Yoshi handled my hair like a pro. He knew to work piece by piece or else it would tangle my hair. I didnt have to tell him anything. I just got a touch up with him again and I'm just as happy... I will be a long time customer of his, and any girl with curly hair looking for someone who knows what they're doing, you wont be disappointed.

I’ve been going here since 2012 for Japanese hair straightening. I have naturally thick and curly hair (I’m Filipina) and I don’t have the patience nor the time (I’m a mom of 2) to style it. The process takes about 4 hours and is expensive ($420), but it is well worth it. I’ve gotten the treatment three times now and my hair stays straight for about a year. Not only is the product great, my stylist Yoko is skilled in her craft and we work well together. I don’t like to chat much when I’m at a salon and she lets me be. That’s important to me because “me time” takes advanced planning (child care) and I like to spend the time at the salon reading magazines or books or sleeping. There’s never any pressure to buy products nor are there any unsolicited comments about my appearance and how I should care for my hair etc. It’s a laid back salon with skilled stylists and more importantly, excellent results!

I never write reviews but i just had to share my experience with Yo-c. He is so nice and funny, he makes you very comfortable while he does your hair. Ive had my platinum blond hair for more than 5 years and it’s very tedious to get a root touch up for. My hair is a dark, strong asian hair so im very particular about who does my hair. I heard that yo-c was the person to go to and im glad i did. He stayed in the salon until very late to get to my hair to the color i want while using the least damaging way to lighten my hair. He would cover the rest of my hair with olaplex AND then put bleach on my roots which most salons dont do since this requires lots of patience and product. He is the first stylist that DID NOT break or melt my hair. His service was A1 and he works with integrity. I highly recommend going to yo-c if you want a guaranteed result.

I had a much better experience at Cleo Japanese Beauty Salon in Phoenix , Arizona. I have color in the front of my hair and for some reason Yo- C thought it didn't need to be as straight as the rest of my hair that had the straightening product applied to it. I asked to straighten it myself afterward and he got offended and said that he could do it better. He hurt my head the way he was pulling my hair. A lady asked me afterwards , how was it ?... Instead of saying that my hair looked beautiful. Catty , nosey neighbors obviously watching the whole process . It was extremely hot inside and my mask was stifling. I was uncomfortable but got yelled at every time I lowered my mask. I think this is a procedure that's best done outside during the humid New York Summer. I gave 3 stars instead of 2 because he was able to give me a same day appointment.

I found Yo-C, and all of their reviews were from happy customers! I had really curly, frizzy, fine hair, and Yo-C consulted my hair type, length, and structure to determine the right formula level for my hair. The process was a bit long but time flew by quickly and it was fun too because Yo-C had a lot of cool stories to share :) My hair now is really soft and straight. I love waking up in the morning and being ready to start my day, without worrying about styling my hair. Very nice Haircut and blowout (got long hair) / Price was also fair - I really appreciated the back massage before getting the haircut. The shampoo time energized the head and hair... Yoshi is wonderful! I have visited twice for Japanese hair straightening and am very happy with the results. Prior to trying Yo-C, I had been getting my hair straightened for 6+ years at another salon but had to switch when my stylist moved. I’m glad I found Yo-C. Yoshi is very attentive, kind, and skilled. After each visit my hair comes out perfectly straight, smooth, and healthy. For reference, my hair is naturally corkscrew curly (3b).

I have had my hair cut twice here, once by Yukari Katada and once by the owner. Both haircuts were great, stylish and great attention was paid as to how comfortable I would be with the ultimate length (short). They worked without feeling rushed and as if they would take all the time needed to make the haircut right for me and for me to leave happy. I will go back there. They are also very reasonably priced compared to uptown salons.

The Japanese are Masters cutting straight hair, and Yoshi is one of them. I highly recommend him for styling and coloring men hair. Neighbourhood gem. Yoashihide and Reiko are both talented and make you look your best coming out from the salon. Good head and shoulder massage and the they use the best hair product money can buy. Never had a problem making appointment a few days in advance and is tucked inside a quiet east village street, with plenty good restaurant for you to show off your new look after.

Yo-shi is indeed very experienced, but i felt he accommodates too many clients in a day and that he was rushing to finish my Japanese treatment. The end result is good. But I feel i would have been even better if there was more time.
