I had a great experience getting my hair cut and dyed at HB (Happy Boys) Hair Salon! Pros: - They know how to cut, style, and dye Asian hair! - They do all different styles of color, including modern/trendy colors like rainbow, pastel, etc. - Very reasonable prices! (I got my short hair cut, bleached, and colored for only $330!) - Availability! They have weekend hours and are usually able to make same-week (sometimes next-day) appointments -- so you don't have to wait for months like some other places. - Very polite and friendly staff who pay attention to small details! (You do not need to be able to speak Chinese) - Clean, safe, bright, and convenient location next to the U District Link light rail station. Cons: - None! I had shoulder-length black hair and wanted to update my look for summer. I asked them to give me a lightweight, short bob cut dyed ocean blue with natural highlights and dark roots. I knew it would be a lot of work since they'd have to bleach my naturally black Asian hair. (It ended up taking around 5 hours.) The HB team was very honest with me and recommended that I use a darker and cooler blue color than what I originally wanted -- since it'll get lighter as the color fades. I wasn't quite sure how to ask for what I wanted (this is only the 2nd time I've ever colored my hair) and at first when they cut my hair I thought it still was too long. They explained how they'd have to dye it differently if I wanted to cut it shorter, and after they finished all the color my stylist cut my hair a 2nd time exactly as I wanted! I was really impressed by how much he paid attention to detail and really checked to make sure my cut was flawless. Thank you HB Hair Salon! I love my new look!

Wow! I was so happy about my experience that I practically ran home to write this review. First, I called on a whim on a holiday, so I definitely did not expect to get fitted on the same day! My appointment was scheduled for 3, but I showed up around 2:45 and they took me in instantly. I was working with Ken, who first washed my hair (amazing experience). there was a language barrier at first (though this should never stop you from going somewhere) but we found out we could both speak Spanish!!! Ken has over 19 years of experience, was personable, and is very skilled at cutting hair. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. I paid $69 even for my haircut, which for their level of expertise is very reasonable. Also, the studio itself was clean, tidy, well-lit, and kept. I just moved to the area, but am happy that I found a salon that specializes in Asian hair! I will definitely come back!! Muchas Gracias Ken!!!

Good haircut but terrible time/appointment management. The haircut is good. Although I don't have complicated hairstyle, the barber always asked for and listened to my needs and observed my reference photos. The results are satisfactory. HOWEVER, their time/appointment management is terrible. You have to wait quite a while (10--40 minutes in my experience) even if you arrive on time for your appointment. One of my appointments was cancelled with a 1.5-hour notice due to their taking too long to cater to the earlier appointments that day, and the person who helped rescheduling did not communicate well with me and the appointed barber --- when I arrive the next day, the appointed barber took the day off. (Another barber cut my hair and it was good, but that's a separate story from time/appointment management.)

I came in first for a "big chop" level of haircut and Sam did an excellent job cutting my hair. All the staff were very nice too! I had such a good experience that I decided to schedule a balayage appointment too, and Sam again did a great job dying my hair and blending the rose gold color in with my natural hair, exactly the color and blend I was hoping for! I will definitely return here anytime I need another haircut and will recommend it to any friends who ask me for a hair salon recommendation.

It was my first time getting a balayage hair color and wow sam did not disappoint! His attention to detail at every step is admirable. The whole salon really knows what they're doing. I don't think I could have gotten a better blend at a better price. It took around 5 1/2 hours since my hair length was long. I'll be coming back again for any other coloring I want to do with my hair! It looks so beautiful in cool and warm lighting. Thank you so much!!

When I decided to spontaneously dye my hair, HB Hair was the only salon that wasn't booked out months in advance. I was able to schedule a same day appointment and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Sam was very patient and skilled with my thick, virgin black hair. I was able to achieve the exact color I wanted in one sitting. Can't recommend this place enough. Thanks for making my hair dreams come true

I had just a cut here today and had a very pleasant experience. Paul cut my hair and he pays a lot of attention to detail. He was very friendly and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. He blow dried my hair after the cut and I was very happy with how it looked. I think I’ll come back for my next cut and also for a color when I’m brave enough to dye my hair :)

First time customer here! Yi-Lang was super attentive and fun to watch. I came in with a few images and he helped me design my hair. The guy was good natured and knew a lot about hair. Halfway through he felt their was residue in my hair and did a quick wash for me. The salon generally was clean and had a nice ambiance. I would take all my friends!

I had men’s cut! It was awesome!! Most of the stylist are not super fluent in English but they have receptionist who can speak English so communication was no issue Ken was my hair stylist and he constantly checked if it’s good, which I appreciate a lot as most of the barbers doesn’t 10/10 recommended and worth the price

I decided I needed a change in my life and I missed having red hair. This was my first time getting it done professionally and I was not disappointed. He did a great job and it turned out beautifully. This place is very clean! Everyone is super nice. I highly recommend this salon.

The haircut place is nice and they give you two wash before and after for guys. The cut itself is very meticulous and nice but the ending price is 55 USD plus tips which is more than double the standard price in seattle. The fact they forced me to pay tips was also not pleasant.

Sam has excellent knowledge and experience in what he does. He gets his job done and in the right way. Shampoo/wash can be improved (done by someone else) - but the haircut was great.
