We did not enjoy our date night here. We came here after our initial reservation at another venue got cancelled on short notice and after being turned away at another 3 places this was our last option before calling it quits and getting fast food. We arrived around 7.30pm, I called before we arrived to make sure the kitchen was still open which it was until 8.30pm thankfully. Upon arrival we waited around for a good 5 minutes before an employee emerged. The place only had 2 tables occupied. I must say the lady that assisted us was very nice throughout our whole stay, she was probably the best part about our visit. We ordered 2 medium rare steaks one with mash and gravy and one with garlic prawns and chips , cheeseburger springrolls and a beer for $115. The springrolls were super delicious and arrived soonishafter ordering. To be honest we waited longer than expected for our main course considering at this point there was only one other person in the dining hall. I think we waited around 25 mins. Finally the food came but there quickly was another issue. Both mine and my partners steak was literally raw. Not even rare, nowhere near medium rare just plain raw in the middle with only a sear on the outside. We could not eat it at all. We always order our steaks medium rare but this was the most undercooked we had ever received, my partners steak was also cold in the middle. We asked the lady if the kitchen could cook it a bit more and she took our meals away. When she came back the kitchen had actually also refilled our mash/chips and our sauces in addition to cooking it more. We really appreciated that a lot and were grateful for that. The steak now was much better and we dug in as we were starving at this point. My Gravy was delicious but I think the portion of mash was tiny, it was like half the size of the amount of chips that my partner had. Steak wasnt bad but tasted mostly like charcoal. By the time we actually ate it was 8.30pm already. We intended to get desert after but kitchen was already closed by now obviously. While eating I actually noticed pieces of PLASTIC in my mouth that was in the mash. I thought no way, maybe it was a potato skin but no it was an actual piece of plastic, I thoroughly inspected it. After we finished we ended up taking our empty plates up to the bar and I wanted to point out the plastic that I found, but the 2 employees were too involved in a conversation with each other and did not notice us standing there so we just left. Our night was honestly ruined. We haven't had a date night in a long time and in the end we thoroughly regretted coming here and wasting over $100. We even got some maccas on the way home because we were still left hungry after our Highway experience. We will not return.

AVOID THIS VENUE FOR YOUR NEXT FUNCTION! Disgraceful service and not enough food for guests. The Assistant Venue Manager who assisted in arranging the booking was nowhere to be found on the day despite saying she would be when I finalised payment. Was reassured on several occasions prior to the event that there would be more than enough food to go around. No sit down meal was offered, nor were we allowed to bring traditional cultural food as additional options. We were only given 6 x finger food options per person. I wasn’t told that essentially meant 6 pieces of small fried offerings per person. How is that more than enough food? That’s basically an entree for most people! And the single waiter we had didn’t even go around evenly to all the guests in the room. When I complained to the duty manager that we hadn’t received all the food (who was rude and unhelpful anyway) the waiter admitted he dropped an entire option of prawn twisters on one table so 90% of the guests didn’t even get a piece. Absolutely disgraceful service. If you want to book a venue for your next function, book anywhere but this place.

Been happily coming here for years but will never return. Went to order 5 meals to be told they had no chicken schnitzel so we changed to parmas. Then told they had no chicken. We decided to leave and go somewhere else. We were then told they had misunderstood and they do have chicken. Ordered meals with chips and veg instead of chips and salad which we have always done here and every other pub we've been to with no issue. This time they were going to charge 1.50 extra per person to swap salad for veg and this on top on their already expensive prices. The playroom was also a huge disappointment. The climbing equipment was still there but the interactive TV and all toys have been taken out and replaced with arcade games that you have to pay for so gambling for kids. Walked in on a Thursday night at 6.30 to find only one family there which should have rung alarm bells from the start.We left and went to another close by pub in Springvale and had a great meal with salad swapped for veggies at no extra cost and each meal was cheaper than Highways and with a great playground.

DON'T BOTHER!!!! - Booked here for Staff Xmas Lunch (18 people). The food was inedible. The roast pork tasted awful, veggies were uncooked and inedible!!!! We have used this place for staff lunches during the year at various times and over recent months we have noticed a marked deterioration in the food. I know its not a 5 star restaurant but I would expect standard bistro fare to be edible at least. There is also no table service and the waiting staff are just continually coming out with plates of food with no idea who had ordered them and screaming out what each plate contains to try to get a response from a diner. One waitress rudely announcing at the top of her voice "If nobody claims this it's going in the bin!!!" after which she promptly marched the unclaimed plate out to the kitchen!!! This was a thoroughly disorganised and poor quality attempt at catering for a Xmas lunch which cost me in excess of $600!!! We will not be returning to this establishment at any time in the future and I would advise others to find an alternative

On Friday the 10th of November my husband and his friend was at the high way having few beers. They both didn’t know they were cut off the beer. Both Decided to have a dinner and beer before going home. Comes to my surprise they are not allowed to have beers with their dinner. I have never experienced the most ruthless inexperienced manager working in the high ways she is so rude don’t know how to look after her customers. My own understanding it’s is her job to look after her guests. She even bar one of the boy because he was sick and par the other guy that doesn’t know he was cut off the drink. She says she’s the manager well I think the staff in the high way has got more experience than her she should not work in any venues at all She got no heart to let the 2 man have their dinner with their last beer and go home. This manager should go back to school and learn how to look after all guest in the venue very sad and stupid. She is disgrace to a human race

Excellent Function Room lead by an amazing coordinator Di Jones. She made the preparation and booking of our event stress and hassle free. The room was decorated with coloured balloons of our choice which was free of charge. It has a projector and an audio system that we were able to use and they were also happy to hang any pictures and posters that we brought in. The event itself was catered by a fantastic functions crew. They were professional and meticulous. Our guests were very pleased with their service. We will definitely be choosing their function room to celebrate future occassions because it eliminates the hassle of catering, clean-up and practically most of the setup for a very reasonable price. Thanks again to Di and the functions crew at Highways Hotel for a memorable event.

This use to be our favourite place to dine Food was delicious and kids enjoyed the play area. I went back with my family after a year and had dinner I was shocked at how all our meals were tasteless NO FLAVOUR AT ALL!!! One of our meals was the highway platter it was so disgusting every meat tasted awful the chicken tasted like pepper just pepper the ribs had no taste whatsoever, the kids Parma was also awful tasted like our chicken the cheese did not taste like cheese either. Every meal we had on our table had no flavour at all SHOCKED!!! Is it under new cooks? Please taste your food before you serve your customers! I know we not the only one there was a table of 6 opposite us and the table of 4 adults and kids that weren't happy either

Highways hotel was just amazing! We had our mums wake there on February 6th 2019 and they were just brilliant! It was a difficult day and both Dianne and Philippe were so helpful...Dianne with the organising of this function and Philippe on the day! We had around 100 people come back for refreshments and the food provided was delicious! Sandwiches and a huge variety of yummy finger foods. We have since had so many comments from people that attended saying it was the best funeral/wake they have EVER been to! Mum would have been so happy with how the day went! So thank you highways for making this important day that special! Dianne and Philippe you are both amazing!

Was a guest at My Aunty 85th Birthday. Booked in the function room .Apparently they had issue with the register,.Kitchen did not see the order. The Manager of the day was on the defensive.Told him whatever issue they had. He should apologize to my Aunty.Most quests had their lunch 2 hours after ordering. I acknowledge problems can arise.A manager need to take responsibility and clearly he did not care. Shame on you Mr Manager for not apologizing to my Aunt... We had a wake at Highways after a funeral at Springvale. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Rather than having to pay a set amount regardless of how many people came, we were not exploited by high prices and the food and staff were excellent! The functions manager Di went out of her way to help us and we were left with many options to cater for an unknown quantity. As it was, many of those at the service did not go to refreshments and the flexibility and willingness to accommodate us was just amazing! The best part was, we didn't have to have our '45 mins' which is all that is available at the cemetery.

Never had dinner at Highways before tonight. We went with the family and we enjoyed our time. There is plenty to choose from on the menu for adults and kids. The play area was great, our kids loved it and were entertained for the few hours we were there. Both the bathroom and play area were nice, clean and modern. There were plenty of wait staff and all our meals came out at the same time, however one of the meals were a little on the bland side and the garlic cheese focaccia had no taste of garlic. We will definitely go here with the family for dinner again.

Not bad. Toilets are rancid. Stall 1 one had either abundance of chocolate that he exploded 'deep south' or explosive diarrhoea remained on "premiere" display for too many hours than my poor mind can cope(at least 8hrs). Stall 2 has quite the urine collection, of all colours, textures & locations. stall 2 was also left for ptsd memories. oddly urinals were spotless. noticed the Braille markings for the toilets are located halfway 2 the moon. sure hope the visual impaired dont have dispensing issues, especially if they are vertically challenged.

Generally love the $10 bar meals in Aherns however I've never been anywhere before and had a BLT with NO tomato!! Ordered a BLT last Saturday night (7-2-15) and it came with no tomato on the bread at all and just a skimpy bit of lettuce. Can't complain about the bread or bacon but the side salad consisted of one tiny slice of tomato and a rather large portion of sliced red onion?? Very odd! Not to say I wouldn't go back there but I'll check my meal thoroughly next time to ensure the BLT actually has tomato and lettuce.

Great gluten free range but lately every dish is grossly under filled. When you order multiple serves of sweet potato, chips or greens, they split 1 portion between 2!! It’s a joke really when you’re already paying a premium! They repeatedly forget to include sauces that come with dishes & take no care when packaging food. They were great a year ago....but since November 2021 it’s just gone drastically downhill. So disappointing & just can’t be bothered dealing with it anymore. So many other options out there.

My first time here, and I thought Highways was very reasonable. My meal (Mexican Parma) was very enjoyable and plentiful. Our two table party all enjoyed their meals and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. I had the opportunity of speaking to the manager and admired his openness and honesty about Highways. This place was less patronised and more quiet than similar types bistros; however, I liked that. The kids play area is the best I've seen in any restaurant. Will enjoy coming back here again.

Had a great meal here, good value and very generous portions of food served. Went there with a chef friend of mine and he also commented on good food quality. Service was overall good, speedy and staff were accommodating to various alterations to the menu. We had a group of over 10 and a child. The restaurant was very clean, toilets were serviced and clean. Manager on site on the day was very professional and visited our table several times to check on our progress and asked for feedback.

Not too sure. 40 minutes later and they'd lost my order. Hope its good when and if it gets here. Went back tonight, staff still cleared away full drinks and at requests for a free refill which was granted, this multi culturally run stew Pot refused me service for no other reason than pointing out their severe drink strealing drinks policy and complete lack of hospitality ethics but then again it would be great service if it were in Bombay. Waited 75 minutes for two steaks to be cooked. Instead of being medium well done they were overcooked pieces of leather. My wife gave up trying to chew hers. What made things worse was they forgot to cook the two kids fish and chips and had to wait a further 15 minutes. Complained to the waitress, she apologized and offered me a free soft drink. We really just want what we ordered and paid for. Waste of $110. We will not be returning. Looked disorganised & understaffed.

The best place to have a steak and the staff is super friendly that was 5 years ago and now they employ the worst manager ever.she is the rudest person I ever come across.we end up return our steak and get our money back and walk out.I really want her to go back to school and learn how to do her job and maybe put some manners in her head

I can highly recommend this wonderful venue . We had a function on the weekend and were delighted with the service and attention to detail that was given to us Di and especially Phillipe who made sure our needs were met. Definitely worth the trip down from Gippsland. Parmigiana was massive, really tender Chicken & super tasty, the wife had a burger, she said it was bloody beautiful. Great Atmosphere, I've been to the Sandown before & never knew this place existed right across the road. Very spacious & the kids are having a ball in the Games Room.

Food was very good and the service very friendly. We were quite surprised at how tasty it was. The porterhouse wasn't tough, and cooked perfectly although a little dry, but the excellent peppercorn sauce nearly made up for it. The chicken scallopini was beautifully moist, the sauce delicious. We were full but forced down some lovely pavlova and salted caramel baked cheesecake. We'll be back, for sure. Keep up the great work.

When you untick chilli from a meal we shouldn't receive it in a meal, the meal end up going into the bin as my pregnant partner can't have it. Next, the Highway burger - I couldn't eat it cause of the sour tasting lettuce and that awful relish.... We come in for takeaway for the Parmas all the time but this now have lost us as customers....

The food ain't bad usually but I once ordered nachos from this pub and received a bowl of WAFERS with a tiny sauce dish of guacamole. It cost $8. Now I grant that it is one of the few pubs around these days where you can play pool and smoke, but really the pool tables and cues have seen better days. I was disappointed they axed happy hour. I don't like their eftpos cashout system.

Ate at highways today for my fathers 60th birthday, my father is a chef by trade and he and I were both so deeply impressed by the quality of the meals we ordered, raj from the kitchen! Go you!! Keep nailing it and Thankyou for such an enjoyable mean!

Great place for the kids to play. Food was hit and miss - we went with a large group and a number of dished failed to deliver satisfactory. The experience from a service point of view was not very friendly....not much else to say on that. That said, the options there are a plenty and Highways caters for the needs of a wide variety and the venue is really good condition.

Went in for lunch. It was 12.25. The gates to the dining area were closed. A few staff members were standing around chatting and when I asked for a table was promptly told the Bistro was closed for lunch ! A Bistro that closes so staff can have lunch ? Never again. Emailed management at the time still awaiting reply. This was 3 months ago.

Went to a mates birthday party recently and the food I ordered was terrible, the Parma I ordered was overcooked and dry and was stone cold when I spoke about it to the waitress she rudely snapped and said "what do you want me to do about it"!!! after a few choice words I finally got a new meal but I wont be back long time customer gone forever.

Service at the Bar was not at all what I expected. Asked for Brandy, got Rum.SECONDLY the TOILETS WERE DISGUSTING, NOT A SINGLE TOILET WAS CLEAN, where you wash your hands that was leaking, water on the floor.

Haven't been here in years and decided to go back as soon as restrictions lifted to support my local pub. Staff are so friendly and helpful, food exceptional, very clean and lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed the booth seating at the Irish bar with a big smokers area and pool tables. Definitely coming back, don't know why I didn't before covid!

Awesome venue with an array of options for everyone. Spectrum sphere consisting of a TAB to dine in with the kids to the bar as well. Kids playroom is definitely exciting with a playground that you can go through the window literally. Has a kids mini movie area to a touchscreen display as well. Overall a great time out for the family.

Meals were okay. Parma was huge chips were nice but coleslaw salad was very average. Lemon Calamari was also good portions but bit to lemony. Chips and salad were nice. The garlic cheese pizza for entree was very good We went for Friday dinner service was friendly and quick.

A quick business meeting / lunch on a Friday. The place was surprisingly quiet considering the $20 lunch option however it is out of the way from many businesses. The food was ok and the service was friendly. If you are after a quick bite of lunch and a smiley face to serve you - pop in when travelling down the Princess Hwy.

The Business Menu roast beef is extremely good value for money. Although advised pork on entry it was a pleasant surprise to be plated beef. Very tender, well presented, a good mix of vegetables and horse radish sauce. Included was a nice glass of very mellow Merlot. The best $15 value on the area for very long time 5 stars

It was extremely bad food, We ordered Sunday roast, roast beef was no taste and chewy, most likely was not fresh roasted the day, it was hopeless food, never coming back again.

What a lovely room that the Wake after the funeral was held. Very private to the main venue. The staff were friendly. The food waiter was all smiles whilst passing around the delicious fingerfood. Would recommend this venue if looking for a nice private function room. It's opposite the cemetery.

This is an awsome place to take the family. The child play ground is located right next to the dining area which makes it easy to enjoy a meal and watch the children. The food is good but some items are over priced. I think children eat free Monday to Friday but I have never tried that.

Had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get the worst tandoori pizza I've ever tasted. Burnt crust and no tandoori flavour at all. The worst think was that the pizza was frozen before being served. I guess you get what you pay for. Never again. The food here is constantly bad.

Great service, staff are sweethearts and can't do enough for you. The arancini balls in particular are delicious but altogether its great pub grub and the pints are well poured and cold. You can't ask for more!! The Irish touch elevates it from good to great. Highly recommend!

Ordered the roast pork loin on uber eats. The pork was rubbery, the potato, the greenbeans and the pumpkin were all undercooked and crunchy. If they had served that to me in the restaurant I would of sent it straight back but you don't have that option on uber eats sadly.

A pretty typical suburban pub and bistro with gaming area. Our meals were pretty good all round, and very cheap with kids eating free during the week and other daily specials. Drinks were especially cheap which is a nice surprise. Good playground to keep the kids happy.

We went here on Wednesday Parma night. Permas were not disgusting. Sauce was dry Parma dry and cheese cold. Came with salad, 2 people got dressing and onion. The 3rd salad came with no dressing or onion. Chips were cold. The best thing of the meal was the glass of wine.

Good place for dinner especially with families. Huge play area for all ages. Meals not too badly priced and came out fast. Only let down is there is only a change table in the womens toilets. They need to have a unisex area that both parents can change thier children.

Very disappointing. The food here used to be fantastic but now it is below average. I ordered the fish of the day, bad mistake, the salmon was cooked well however I have never had broken up corn chips as a condiment before nor will I ever again. Won't be returning!

Not the best place around, but pretty good value for money. The food is traditional pub type food, so nothing that you haven't had elsewhere but we'll cooked and decent quality. Kids eat free between 5.30 and 6.30 Monday to Friday so that's an added bonus.

Got here by accident, proved to be a good thing, nice restaurant ~ service ~ menu ~ food. I had a seniors meal it was delicious & huge. Don't be put off by the full car park, lots of people at the pokies which doesn't interfere with resraurant area.

Regular (almost weekly) diners at the bistro Recent staffing changes have almost killed our weekly visit, this may be our last. Can't even count 6 nuggets on to a plate.

Attended a 21st here and service was impeccable. Food and drinks service was great. Di who helped with mic, room set up etc was so pleasant to deal with. Bar staff friendly as well. Highly recommend for dining and venue hire.

Was there for a wake in the function , the service was brilliant and food was excellent. The pies , sausage rolls , meatballs and chicken skewers were very yummy and so good to eat. Thank you so much for a wonderful venue.

Food from here was absolutely amazing! We ordered the chicken tenders and the salt and pepper calamari. Was some of the best food we’d had in a long time. Staff were super lovely and caring. Would recommend to everyone!!

Love Highways, staff are really nice and knowledgeable. Pricing and portion sizes are fairly priced. Foods are yummy, big play area for the kids, good selection of desserts but need to change around, same all the time.

The Greek Lamb salad that I ordered from here was very yummy and the size of the meal was okay. I would recommend this meal if someone asked me which meal I'd choose from the menu. I would go back here again for a meal

Meals are not bad in price but the veg need to be cooked more and the lamb just didn't taste like lamb at all think that's why kids can eat free monday TO friday otherwise no one wod eat here just come for the pokies.

We had the wake for my sister at highways today. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and food there today. Dianne who help us organise everything is such a wonderful lady. I would recommend Highways to anyone

Good place for the kids to run around. The food is not too bad. The Parma was nice but chicken a bit tough and breading on the bottom was completely missing. Very amateur. Chips are delicious and crispy however.

Order a fish and chips, wait for one hour and food is not coming, finally we change it to takeaway. speechless, never come back again，

Really impressed right from the time of booking. Last minute booking for 15 accommodated, got us right next to the kids area which is one of the best I've seen, meals brought out quickly and were a good price.

Always loved the meals and atmosphere. Last week (22nd of Dec, 19), the meat was great, but the vegas tasted like they'd been undercooked for 5 minutes. Our 10 people table received their meals ten mins apart.

Clean. Good food, served hot and in time. Friendly staff. Great parking. Now the gambling part. Depending on which part you're in, it's either too dim or too bright. Not enough seating. A bit noisy.

The open souvlaki was very nice although not enough meat and the salad was soaking wet which made the bread a but soggy too. That said, it was mothers day so very busy and so I can forgive that.

overall its pretty average, i went for a meal there and to play some pokies. I did like the decore. The food I thought was poor, service was good and the pokie club okay.

Service was good and staff was friendly but food wasn't good at all. Like someone cracked a can and food fell out of it onto a plate. $28 for that Christmas in July menu was overpriced by $24.

Great menu and they have gone back to ordering at the bar individually for your meals. Nice atmosphere and good food, variety to suit most. So glad you zre back on our visiting list.

Ashley is very good with children and is an excellent waitress/host.

After being seated we were told it was full table service. Took a while to be served. Once our order was taken food came our quickly. Food was nice and priced well.

Kids eat free Monday to Friday & I was impressed with the quality of my daughter's chicken nuggets. Good play area for little ones. Even a reading/teddy bear book.

The lamb Salad is amazing!!!!!!! Every time I work that way I order it. I love my salads ans this is one of the best I've ever had! Please keep this on the menu
