"I give it 5 stars because its like a terminal hub such as jefferson park, to skokie, evanston, lincolwood, and even back to cumberland blue line on a 290 pace"
I would just like to say a big, huge Thank you to all the helpful people at the Howard street station and the Addison street station. On Wed. August 26 my two daughters and I were headed to the Billy Joel Concert at Wrigley. Not being familiar with traveling on the El, we had a few hiccups but felt we figured it out, only to pay for 6 tickets, 3 round trip tickets, and only receive 1. N. Love (i think last name) immediately set her dinner down (she was just on her way out) and began helping us. She made a phone call to the Addison Street station and told them what happened and between her and the help of the people at Addison, Maurice in particular, they made it quickly possible for us to reach Wrigley on time and then to return. All easy and wonderful. There was a gentleman who remembered our situation and got us right through as well. Again a Big Thank you to all of you!!! Your help was appreciated more then I can really express. You took what could have been a huge hassle and made it a very positive and pleasant experience. Jan and daughters!!
Train Purple line is always late!! ALWAYS!! Ridiculous! They never even make announcements to prepare you and very unapologetic about it!! POOREST Customer service. RUDE employees No one likes to help!! And get mad when you do ask them a question! If you could or can avoid using this station I would . All the Supervisors With Attitudes . They should close the Station !! Not worth Putting Tax Payers thru the stress. How many have lost there Jobs due to relying on transportation Cta !! I had to ask myself that . There's 15 Red line trains for every 1 Purple line that come to the station. . How the mighty has fallen ! I would Not recommend anyone to take Cta . I would recommend Metra or Pace!! May cost more but you wouldn't have a headache or stress. Leadership reflects attitude! I would boycott this station ! Due to unappreciated customer service.
Not the nicest station, but not the worst either. My main complaints is that the platforms can get crowded, especially during rush hour and during events (particularly Cubs games), and that due to the high volume of trains, it can be a bit slow with some "temporary delays" or "signal clearance," but it's no worse than anything you would encounter at a Loop station. Expect to encounter crowds and delays if you're traveling during peak hours. It's also inconvenient how many stops the Red line has and that outside of rush hour there's no way to bypass these stops. Also it can really get crowded and it doesn't have the best lighting compared to some other stations. The surrounding neighborhood isn't the greatest, but it's far from the worst. Also beware that this station can be confusing to navigate, especially if you need to change platforms.
Howard L Station is an open pit latrine. Also, CTA has decided to save time at the expense of the time of its riders by having the trains pull into the wrong platform so they don't have to run the trains through the turn-around. However, if the passenger is making a connection with another train line they have to go up to the station then over and down to the correct platform. The connecting trains inevitably leave from the far end of the platform and don't wait. Of course, the escalator up from the wrong platform is broken and has been for a significant time. If you can route your travel to avoid Howard, you should.
I give it 5 stars because its like a terminal hub such as jefferson park, to skokie, evanston, lincolwood, and even back to cumberland blue line on a 290 pace..........However such as any urban location with economic issues you have to watch everything around you, unfortunately as much as the cta staff and chicago police try to make it safe they are underpaid and understaffed, hell its a city with millions and you have yet to see a bathroom or a special city services vehicle for the homeless or those that need help
There's a certain special time, early on summer mornings - the glint of the moon to your west, the gradients of purple and orange to your east, the day ripe with promise and opportunity - when you can cast your eyes downward, past the writhing masses with their own hopes and dreams of the glorious day that awakens and yawns, down to the tracks, which are themselves positively alive with rats and their families, dreaming of the day - may it be soon - when this station might belong to them once again.
This station is the end of the red line. If you are an early morning or late evening commuter, avoid like the plague. There is very little security, the employees are un-empathetic and it often reeks of human waste. There are numerous homeless people on the platforms who basically live on the trains at night and outside the station there are a lot of questionable people roaming about. it gets two stars because there are a lot of buses and trains, but other than that, you are at your own risk.
I travel often on public transportation and through this area for food and shopping as well as to take care of other business. Church attending and personal errands surely has been a regular activity while here on the northside at Howard in Rogers Park neighborhoods. It is nice still. I enjoy easy accessible areas in the city of Chicago where I can get things done besides doing the usual shopping to get use of bathroom to piss.
It's a major terminal station. Usually catch the red and purple express from here. It's a pretty well oiled machine of a station for how complex the train movements can be with 3 lines converging, one of them sometimes running through and sometimes terminating. Wish the purple express ran throughout the day, kinda like the 7 train back home in NYC.
I catch the red line at Chicago and state, taking it all the way to Lawrence I never have any problems sometimes it's busy but that's when the city has special events , but most of the time I have no problem getting from one place to another.
Somebody like almost a whole decade ago tried to sell me, then gave me a really bad mixtape called "Smugz Money" and all I remember him laying bars about was Fiji Water & Luigi. It was whack. I've avoided this train station ever since.
First off let’s just say that It’s not safe. Legit seen a guy licking a street pole outside at the currency exchange place! gets two stars for the amazing artwork around the station
Why doesn’t the red line just go to Linden? Also we waited for the purple line tonight for 30 minutes only to be told it’s cancelled and won’t run anymore. What a joke of a service.
Howard CTA Station is so much better than 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line! Rogers Park is a decent area. There is a Park N Ride and 3 Train Lines that go there which is so much fun!!
The purple and yellow lines always say 1 minute and they don't come. The red line is always on time . Very dangerous neighborhood with lots of gangs
Fast and convenient location. Makes it easier to get to work when I can't drive. Well-managed, busy stop. Could be a little cleaner but I love it.
The "hub" of a few train lines and also a busy shopping mall area. Filled with homeless and crime. Not a great place to be.
I have never been to the Skokie Swift line in the Howard train station before. Someday I'll have to check it out.
Confusing. Trains boarding at random platforms, signage means nothing.
Super easy for a newbie to understand!
