Expiry dates removed I've only lived in North Melbourne for about 6 months, but during that time I've visited this store many times, and a good few of those times I have gotten home only to discover that some of the products I have bought have had the expiry date removed. (See photo.) It's been on my To Do list for a while to write this review and warn people. I remember, as a student, working at a small cornerstore that had a somewhat abusive owner. He would get the staff members to use graffiti remover to wipe the expiry dates of products that had passed the expiry date but which had not yet been sold. It was a way to improve profits. And so I guess that is what is happening at this IGA. I have discovered this enough times now that I am always hyper vigilant when I visit this IGA re: checking for the expiry date -- and making sure it is the proper expiry date and not just some sticker that IGA put over the real expiry date. -- On a different note, most of the staff at this store are quite friendly -- but one staff member is incredibly awkward. If you are standing near a shelf, looking at the products, she will just rudely push in front of you without saying anything, pushing you back, in order to restock some of the products. And when she serves you at the till, she is very abrupt and makes the simple process of checking out quite awkward.
This iga is an honest rip off. I come here all the time and have probably given them half my bank account already. But like, seriously, the owner charges 3.99$ for ONE AVOCADO. When at the supermarket they are 2 for 5$. And you are telling me you PRICE MATCH??? how are you price matching anything especially all the vegan healthy food vegetables and fruits are nearly 2x as much as the regular market. Like, I get you need money to pay off your monthly rent and what not but there is no reason be charging that much for avocados year round...I have stopped buying as much food as I used to at this iga for this reason..oh, and vegan crackers 8.99? oatmeal 13.99? seriously??? someone's one hour pay just for a bag of oatmeal and crackers?
This IGA express is very well stocked with all the essentials, amazing selection for special diets GF/DF/Vegan. They have many tasty international gourmet options in the deli case & snack sections for impressing at a dinner party or picnic. Staff always been friendly and the store spotlessly clean... Covid also introduced glove/sanitizer and wipes on entry plus staff awareness of overcrowding in this small store. Service is so quick that it is rare to wait even on Friday night when the bottle shop and snack counter gets many visitors. A cheerful team of professionals on counter so you get in, get what's necessary and get out again stress free.
BLEARING Indian music so inappropriately loud, like, this isn’t a night club, this is Tuesday evening at 7:30 I can understand the last 10 minutes of your shift to okay whatever but - this was ridiculous. The more senior worker there, just galavanted around pridefully unaware HOW LOUD it is. I didn’t approach the matter because I didn’t want the racism card to be played. There is nothing wrong with your music, but there is something wrong with how at that volume, it’s penetrative and super invasive. I just want to do my shopping in peace.
The front desk receptionist is lack of customer service skills. I ordered online shopping with my coupon. She cancelled some of my items without informing me. If you don’t have the items in store, please don’t post online, or you can contact me to discuss about the replacement. Finally, my order were all cancelled by the delivery because she asked me to order all again with my coupon, and she would replace the item I wanted. Unfortunately, I can’t use my coupon again.
I've visited multiple times, had no problem with the cashier. One girl was super nice, she told me that the hot cross buns that I looked for are defrosted every n days and I should asked the staff if I saw none in the display. The other girl was super nice, she gave me coins when I asked for a change, even more than I needed. Today they have different cashier, a guy, worst experience ever.
Rude non customer focused staff, while there deciding what milk I wanted in the not so spacious isle, your staff member decide it would be a good idea to stand in front of me and stock the mill making it impossible for me to see anything. And had the nerve to say he was just doing his job by getting in my way. Worst iga ever prices are much higher and customer service doesn't exist here
I was afraid of going into this place due to the bad reviews although I live 1-min from the location. However, my experience was ok. It's overpriced It's lacking customer service The lights are darker and lousy compared to regular Woolworth and Coles. However, it's conveniently located. I was able to get what I wanted. It wasn't that bad as I suspected.
I personally prefer this IGA to my local in Travancore. I can always rely on fresh fruit and veggies bread that won’t grow mould the next day. They have great options for vegans making life with my fiancé easier as we can both shop there. It sucks you lose phone reception towards the back of the store. Over all a good IGA.
This place has gone downhill since I first started patronizing it. Probably because of COVID. However they have lost my patronage with a new Woolworths Metro opening up, the same distance away from me, albeit in the opposite direction; I'll be moving my shopping requirements to Woolies.
One of your staffs at the cashier today 14/5/21 (Indian, black long ponytail, brown jumper) was super rude to me. The same lady was also rude to me the other day. I do not understand why I was being treated that way as I was just buying my grocery. I do not appreciate such a service.
If you want to overpay for nearly expired items, then this is the iga for you. Just paid $6 for a tiny strawberries punnet and half were edible. Everything is Crazy expensive and most of the time NOT fresh. If only I lived a little closer to a proper supermarket. Terrible IGA !
Do not buy any of their cooked foods. Got food poisoning from their cooked foods. Their fruits are not fresh. Only reason they are still open is due to their proximity to apartments on Flemington Road. Hope they close soon and Coles local or Woolies local takes over.
Staff don't update tills with in store advertised prices so I paid full price for 'discount specials'. Only realised after paying and staff weren't interested in aknowledging or refunding the difference. There aren't any other options around so good luck!
Shopper beware: most times I visit this shop, the price at the register is higher than that on the ticket. They will drop the price if you raise the issue but I feel like it's not a lot to ask for their ticketed price to match the register price.
Great little version of a full sized supermarket, they do cram a lot of things in it but they don't stock everything a full size I G A would stock, pius you can get a cold beer and mixed drinks, plus a good selection of wines
I always buy here, but the last time I did I was coming from work and I tried to buy dinner five minutes before the closing time and they didn’t let me and honestly for a person that goes all the time it’s just rude.
Utsuv and Jack are always very friendly with me. The store has a limited range of items, but that being said, I'm surprised at their vegan and health food options, which are not bad. Coconut yoghurt, yum!
Can be more expensive for so.e items than Coles. I prefer lime soda water im large bottles which this IGA X PRESS doesn't stock and never has. Go here for convenience only when in this neck of the woods.
Had to grab a few essentials for an overnight stay while my father was in Royal Melbourne Hospital - $60 later. Didn't even buy a lot. Sooo expensive, but not many other places around unfortunately.
Good range of products for a smallish store. Still desperately looking for frozen vegetables fingers that this store used to stock and not sure why they are no longer available?
Friendly service, well stocked, long opening hours and reasonable prices... Walking distance from RMH and other busy places in North Melbourne. What more could you want.
Great customer service. Needed help with the ear phones and she opened up the pack and showed us made sure they fit the phone . Will be back again
Well stocked, very nice customer service and clean store. Highly recommended for that quick shop. Also the alcohol prices are pretty decent.
The prices seem unusually high at this store. I only shop here when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to go to the larger IGA on Errol St.
As above.. but these guys are friendly, have decent prices and a remarkable range of interesting food for a limited floor space.
A 10 pack of surgical masks was on sale for $25 which is disgusting profiteering from those near a hospital who need them most.
Nice IGA store near Royal Melbourne hospital. Very convenient location. You can find all of your daily use grocery items here.
I found this store well stocked with lots of different and interesting food items. Great for visitors staying in the area
One of the worst shops in North Melbourne area. Extremely overpriced and poorly organized with lack of the basic things.
Have everything you need and the staff were more than happy to help me out when I couldn't find what I was looking for.
These guys are friendly, have decent prices and a remarkable range of interesting food for a limited floor space.
The best of the best, not once, not twice, but over & over. I like being there. Beaut little IGA on Flemington Rd
Freshness has improved dramatically over the past few years. Lots of good organic and speciality grocery items.
Very expensive at this one....first time i went in there the other week.not going back...hate being ripped off.
Should reconsider prices as items are unreasonably priced. Stock is limited, may as well go to a real IGA.
Cheaper than most in the area good service but check the prices which can be different at the checkout
Friendly customer service and nice range of products ! (A bit overpriced but nothing weird for an IGA)
Staff quite often dismissive and non-courteous but aside from that it’s a great convenience store.
Open late, 7 days per week. Staff are super friendly and get to know the locals. Thanks guys!
It's tiny but when you need something you can usually find it or a suitable substitute here.
Love it, it has a lot brands tga coles does not fir example and great liqour selection too
Needs more fresh fruit and vegetables, I couldn't find basics like cucumber and capsicum.
10min walk from hotel. A bit expensive but a good selection of food, drinks, nibblies
Same as other IGA stores... always slightly more expensive than coles and woolworths
Very bad customer service experience at the checkout. The staff was extremely rude.
Expensive but thats what you get for convenience, friendly staff and great service.
Worst customer service ever! DO NOT BUY IN THIS STORE, IF YOU WANT SOME RESPECT!!!
Fools ! Update your google store hours if your store is closed in the morning !
Prices are STEEP. If you are mobile, go elsewhere. Good service though.
Always great staff attitude and the bottle shop pricing is excellent.
Great little place to pop into during your break off work or school.
Good range of stuff, just a bit on the pricey side for some of them
Friendly staff. Variety of stock. A little overpriced, has bottle-o
Very helpful and staff very good nothing is to much bother for them
Always have interesting things I don't see at Coles and Woolworths
I used to find the service friendly, but recently not so much..
Expensive, but life saving. Open late hours and friendly staff.
It's small but still upholds the quality of a large supermarket
definetly one of the better small grocery shops in melbourne
Rediculously overpriced, little range and claustrophobic.
Maintains quality products. May get busy in peak hours
Was ok but the price of groceries is a bit expensive.
Expensive, but good thing they are open till late.
Nice variety of meats. Booze and all that jazz :)
Too pricey. Limited items. Good for what it is.
Worst customer service in the north melb area.
